Lovely roast in a nice country pub setting. If you are lucky enough to see (and hear) some of the locals assemble with musical instruments then win win. Would go again.

Met here for a business lunch as it was a mutually good location, but was my first visit. First impressions are of a quintessential English country pub and you are greeted by a sign that says wellies and dogs welcome. (My kinda pub). It was busy for a lunchtime but not overcrowded. Had a Guinness zero as there was no 0% IPA and I was driving. Chose the fish and chips and fish was cooked to perfection with a crispy batter and soft chunky haddock. Perfect sized portion. Star of the show was the affogato (one of my favourites) where you can choose your liquor. Staff were super friendly and attentive without being in your face. I would definitely return.

Have visited this pub many times but on the last visit did not feel the food was value for money. One and a half slices of beef in the Sunday roast and a small slice of bread and butter pudding that was nowhere near the quality of quantity have experienced in other pubs. It is a lovely pub with very friendly staff and in a great location but prices too high for what you get.

A leisurely evening spent in a fab, warm, cosy & friendly pub, in good company eating scrummy food- what could be better. Came here on recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Service was polite, timely and attentive. Food was all delicious which included the full rack of ribs, ribeye steak (cooked perfectly) and the huge burger. Stand out pudding was the brioche bread & butter served with rich, vanilla ice cream. Only niggle is the automatic addition of a (discretionary) 12.5% service charge.

A lovely pub off the beaten track. The service was excellent and the pub was very clean. The aspect that really stood out (as someone who loves ribs) is you just don’t often see ribs on menus these days and wow, these ones are extremely generous in portion size and utterly fantastic. My 5yo had fish and chips and loved it! Great place, lovely atmosphere, fantastic food.

My husband and I visited the Rose and Crown for lunch a couple of months ago, it was pretty quiet with not many other diners but we were very impressed with everything, surroundings, service and food. We were so impressed we highly recommended it to various friends and although we are not local brought a couple of friends for lunch today to show them how good it was, sadly things were not as good as our previous visit. The welcome and service were still good and this time the tables were all full which we felt was a good sign but we found all the starters and deserts to be very small (we all had different dishes and we do not have large appetites) the main courses were OK size-wise but this time the fries and chunky chips were not good, all were somewhat overcooked. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to a return visit but both ourselves and our guests will not be rushing back.

We arrived at 2.30pm for Sunday lunch. There were 9 in the group. The staff were very attentive. The Sunday lunch was very mediocre. The trio of meat was beef, belly pork and chicken which was ordered by three family members. The single pork dish which was ordered by two family member as an alternative to the trio because they didnt like belly pork when asked what Porchetta was were told pork in a circle with crackling. The pork was belly pork which wouldn't have been ordered if we were told that in the explanation. It was mostly fat hardly any meat. The yorkshires were cold, the potatoes were hard, the parsnips tasted awful. The dish on the side of pork stuffing (5 tiny pieces) was £5.50 and was cold and the price was extortionate. The gravy tasted of fat. I was not impressed at all. Then to add 12 and a half per cent to the bill (£28) was a shock. Extremely disappointed, expensive and overrated.

The meal was excellent, a little fizz to start with a selection of delicious hors d'oeuvres. I had a vegetarian Beef Wellington for my main which was so tasty. Not a pleasant experience been in, had food in there couple times with friends, food was Not cooked very well, the meat was quite difficult to bite into & the staff were quite rude as well, after my friend not finishing some of his meal when the waiter came to take our dishes away he gave my friend a very rude & quite a judgemental look (which the whole group picked up on). The drinks were not poured well, the Guinness tasted like absolute garbage, & the ales were flat. Certainly would not recommend the rose & crown to anyone with the right mind.

Stopped by here for a Sunday Lunch after visiting the Jane Austen house nearby. Very friendly and quick service. We definitely felt like we were in a very local place as many of the customers were clearly well-known to the staff. Also, the meal was amazing and as Americans trying a Sunday Roast for first time I don’t think we could have had a better first impression. The roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips were all perfectly cooked, not too soft at all. The meat was amazing- we both thought the pork with the crispy skin was our favorite but the beef, especially with a bit of horseradish, was amazing too. And the sauce was so savory and very generous. Nice local beer selection too.

After its resurrection several years ago by a local family, the business was (understandably) sold during Covid to a small chain. It immediately lost its charm, the village stayed away in droves, the menu became dismally formulaic and we avoided it. It was then sold to a smaller chain, and we gave it a second chance - which we regretted. It was even more worser-er than before. That lasted for a year or so. It has now been bought by Brakspears and ... all seems great again. It is bright and welcoming, they have mercifully switched off the intrusive *%$@{} television with its mind-numbing advertising, the menu is interesting, the staff are delightful and we had a very enjoyable evening. The (always very welcoming) manager was not in evidence, but all was reassuringly excellent nevertheless. There were disappointingly few people eating, but I suppose that was because of the European football nonsense. Thank all the gods for Brakspears and the rebirth of the Rose & Crown.

Lovely meal on a Friday evening. Good atmosphere and great service, attentive and personable from the staff who amended menu choices at our request. I had catch of the day, sea bass that was tasty if a little steep at £22.95 for one fillet that came up on the small side. Lady on the table next to me had the same and hers was bigger so luck of the draw I think. The ribs looked great, chicken burger was HUGE. Mushrooms on toast and prawn starter also really flavoursome and heavy on the garlic which I love. Felt like a quintessential British village pub. Would recommend.

Really disappointing. 20 of us there last night for a work do and I’m so sad to say the food was really poor, I was so embarrassed after always telling everyone how great the food is here, but it wasn’t good. I had a vegan burger which was totally dry in a gluten free bun (no vegan cheese or onions as it said it came with). My chocolate brownie dessert was so salty I couldn’t eat it, gutted! Was looking forward to that, and it smelled amazing. Chatted to colleagues this morning, all of those who had the risotto said it was grim (and the menu said it came with ‘the greenest of vegetables’, it had 3 little kale leaves on top!) and the boss had the ribs which he said were mediocre. This used to be our ‘go to place’ for food :-(

Visiting the area and on recommendation booked for Sunday Lunch. Quite possibly the best we have ever had. Melt in the mouth belly pork with delicious cracking, parsnips and honey, glazed carrots, buttery cabbage perfectly cooked toasties and homemade enormous Yorkshire puddings. Highly recommended my only regret is I don't live locally so won't be able to visit again any time soon. 😊

We went before it changed hands and everything was very good so we went back on Saturday and was told it had just changed owners with a new menu. Well we thought very poor the chicken portion was very small ,the spare ribs was a good portion but very dry hardly any sauce, the mussels were tasteless and not that many 12 for a main dish more rice and sauce than mussels . Burger was better. Starters were better the two Irish coffees had hardly any cream on them.total bill was £186 in that £20 service charge which we would have left a tip but not £20. Very disappointed .

First visit for a couple of years. Very welcoming, excellent food & service. Only blackmark is the introduction of a 12.5% service charge by default. Both my friend & I do not agree with this practice & will politely ask for this to be not taken, which we trust will be done pleasantly. For good service & food / drink. We frequently tip more than that anyway. Watch this space.

A lovely lunch in beautiful surroundings with friendly welcoming service. One of our favourite places to eat. One of us is gluten free and there is a really good choice of options. Food is always delicious all year round.

I now live in the USA, but I grew up in Farringdon and have seen many owners of this pub come and go over the years. I have fond memories of sitting with my parents and siblings, sipping lemonade and eating cheese & onion crisps in the pub garden every summer. Each landlord has brought their own distinct flair to The Rose & Crown--the pub has always been a steady, consistent village staple. The current owners seem very welcoming and friendly, and have introduced regular special events that I don't think existed before to create community and belonging--quiz nights, Gin Wednesdays, a themed New Year's Eve event, etc. Sadly, I didn't manage to eat here during my short stay--they were closed for a private party on the one night I tried to have dinner there. Wish I'd been able to--the dining room was full every time I was there, and the food looked and smelled delicious. But my family went several times over the holidays for drinks, and it was everything a village pub should be--cozy and welcoming, with good beer and friendly staff. The music was a little loud the first time we went, but other than that, everything was great.
