Visited with the family for a Sunday roast; friendly greeting and adapted to a last minute request for a high chair for a baby without a problem. The porcetta was lovely and the rest of the meal accompanied it without any issue, cauliflower cheese wasn’t hugely cheesy, good number of wines on offer which were all reasonably priced and the Chablis that we had was very nice Good atmosphere and lots of staff to help support, difficult to judge atmosphere for a Sunday lunch but seems like a lovely spot that I’m sure would be a good place for an evening beer

I have never had such a bad restaurant meal. I did not know it was possible to burn fish & chips but the batter on the fish was very dark and pretty inedible. I ordered the lemon tart for dessert but was very disappointed to receive a sliver of tart, not a proper portion for £8. A poor experience all round.

An absolute gem of a pub. Lovely atmosphere, large, outside space with plenty of seating, and tastefully decorated interior. We had Sunday roast which was delicious! Generous portions with extra gravy on request. Crispy potatoes, glazed carrots, savoy cabbage, humongous Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and lashings of gravy! Finished with coffee and cake. There was no pressure to leave despite how busy they were, and the service was with a smile every time. Definitely worth a visit. Wheelchair accessible too!

A beautiful gathering of work colleagues. A very bubbly young lady greeted us, almost like she was welcoming us into her home and she’d invited us round for lunch. Her smile, personality and humour were infectious. Dark hair, quite small, you are excellent at hosting. The menu isn’t cheap but you do get what you pay for, a table of ten of us were given well presented, hot, fresh food all at the same time. The fig and mozzarella focaccia with fries was lovely. Lively outside seating areas and dogs are welcome.

This is a great place to eat and the staff are amazing. We are there on a really busy Sunday and you wouldn't have known by the quality of the food or the service. There are a nice amount of outside tables for a lovely summer lunch. The food is reasonably priced for the quality. My husband has the best burger he's had in months. We later saw the roast dinner come out, and will go for that next time and that does look outstanding. The pub is dog friendly, which is always an additional bonus these days for so many people and there is a bonus walk around a field at the back of the pub to walk off you lunch.

We took advantage of the lunch set menu and it was delicious and superb value for money. Alice looked after us and gave some of the best service we received in recent years…having been fortunate enough dine out at different venues each week, the Rose and Crown should be proud of both the lunch time offering and the service that was given. After its resurrection several years ago by a local family, the business was (understandably) sold during Covid to a small chain. It immediately lost its charm, the village stayed away in droves, the menu became dismally formulaic and we avoided it. It was then sold to a smaller chain, and we gave it a second chance - which we regretted. It was even more worser-er than before. That lasted for a year or so. It has now been bought by Brakspears and ... all seems great again. It is bright and welcoming, they have mercifully switched off the intrusive *%$@{} television with its mind-numbing advertising, the menu is interesting, the staff are delightful and we had a very enjoyable evening. The (always very welcoming) manager was not in evidence, but all was reassuringly excellent nevertheless. There were disappointingly few people eating, but I suppose that was because of the European football nonsense. Thank all the gods for Brakspears and the rebirth of the Rose & Crown.

Not been here for many years, thought give it a try. Normal country pub inside, focusing mainly on dining. Food was good but starters too large, nibbles not nibbles!! So added to price. For the quality of food the total bill for two was close to £100 including 12.5% service already added. Too much for lunch!! Went to a nicer pub recently, lovely food, no starter and bill came to £65 including my tip!

Lovely meal on a Friday evening. Good atmosphere and great service, attentive and personable from the staff who amended menu choices at our request. I had catch of the day, sea bass that was tasty if a little steep at £22.95 for one fillet that came up on the small side. Lady on the table next to me had the same and hers was bigger so luck of the draw I think. The ribs looked great, chicken burger was HUGE. Mushrooms on toast and prawn starter also really flavoursome and heavy on the garlic which I love. Felt like a quintessential British village pub. Would recommend.

Really disappointing. 20 of us there last night for a work do and I’m so sad to say the food was really poor, I was so embarrassed after always telling everyone how great the food is here, but it wasn’t good. I had a vegan burger which was totally dry in a gluten free bun (no vegan cheese or onions as it said it came with). My chocolate brownie dessert was so salty I couldn’t eat it, gutted! Was looking forward to that, and it smelled amazing. Chatted to colleagues this morning, all of those who had the risotto said it was grim (and the menu said it came with ‘the greenest of vegetables’, it had 3 little kale leaves on top!) and the boss had the ribs which he said were mediocre. This used to be our ‘go to place’ for food :-(

I visited the area to catch up with a friend over Sunday roast. I’m not one to blow anyone’s trumpet over a sunder roast, but I just can’t not this time round. I ordered the pork and my friend had the nut roast. The pork literally melted on my tongue, the roast spuds were crunchy on the outside whilst the fluffiest of fluffy on the inside. Homemade Yorkshire pudding and seriously tasty gravy. Literally the BEST roast I’ve ever had in my life. Literally don’t want to post this review and keep the best roast venue a secret 🤫

I booked table for a Sunday evening @ 18.00 the food was nice although a little rushed, as soon as i had put my fork on the plate i assume the manger told one of the staff,,, THERE DONE ,, and our plates was cleared from the table in a flash, podding menu was then placed on the table, personally i like to take my time when eating and have some time between courses. I will probably give it six or seven months and go back to see if it’s changed.. final score 7 out 10

Well we thought very poor the chicken portion was very small ,the spare ribs was a good portion but very dry hardly any sauce, the mussels were tasteless and not that many 12 for a main dish more rice and sauce than mussels . Burger was better. Starters were better the two Irish coffees had hardly any cream on them.total bill was £186 in that £20 service charge which we would have left a tip but not £20. Very disappointed .

I now live in the USA, but I grew up in Farringdon and have seen many owners of this pub come and go over the years. I have fond memories of sitting with my parents and siblings, sipping lemonade and eating cheese & onion crisps in the pub garden every summer. Each landlord has brought their own distinct flair to The Rose & Crown--the pub has always been a steady, consistent village staple. The current owners seem very welcoming and friendly, and have introduced regular special events that I don't think existed before to create community and belonging--quiz nights, Gin Wednesdays, a themed New Year's Eve event, etc. Sadly, I didn't manage to eat here during my short stay--they were closed for a private party on the one night I tried to have dinner there. Wish I'd been able to--the dining room was full every time I was there, and the food looked and smelled delicious. But my family went several times over the holidays for drinks, and it was everything a village pub should be--cozy and welcoming, with good beer and friendly staff. The music was a little loud the first time we went, but other than that, everything was great.

The service was excellent but I'm only giving 3 stars because staff failed to tell us of the Friday night special that if you buy two mains you can get a bottle of wine for free. We only found out at the end of the meal when seeing it on the back of a card on our table. As we were leaving they did not agree to give us the bottle of wine that was rightfully ours. We ordered battered haddock and cod with chips for tea and were so completely disappointed by our inedible meals. The chips were ok but our fish was tough, almost non existent, as if it had been cooked in the fryer several times before it reached us. We took it home, wrapped and labelled, but were disappointed, frustrated and still hungry half an hour later. Poor quality, over-cooking, tough (sorry to repeat myself). Won't be returning to this chippy in a hurry.

Been to quite a few Harvesters, you know what you're generally in for. The exception here - fantastic service. On a late Sunday evening, with a bunch of starving and cranky kids, service is so important. Emily C. made such an effort to engage with the kids, ensuring speedy service and communication throughout. Getting great service anywhere is exceptional in and of itself, but getting it when you're with you're family is a diamond in a hay stack - and this was exactly that. Emily and the team's service was so fantastic, the rest of what you might like/dislike about a Harvester doesn't matter one bit.

Booked a table online, taking a chance on a place to eat we had not eaten before. My wife and I were with another couple and had the following from the menu: Starters; 2x Ham Hock & Cheddar Croquette, Mustard Mayo. 1x Cajun Tiger Prawns, Asian Sauce, Mixed Leaves. 1x Nachos – Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salsa. Mains; 2x Slow Cooked Rack of Ribs, House Made Barbeque Sauce, Fries, Coleslaw (1x half & 1x full) 1x Quesadilla, Toasted Tortilla Wrap with Melted Cheddar, Onion and Peppers, with added Cajun Chicken 1x Cooked Venison Haunch Steak, Chive Mash, Seasonal Vegetables, Port Reduction, Berry Jus. The food was outstanding, all of our food pierced at the table hot and freshly cooked, flavour of all the dishes was fantastic. I had the venison dish and it was exquisite. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with table service and a good knowledge of the menu. We would all definitely return to this pub/restaurant. Food and drinks were reasonably priced.

Tried to have lunch here today. It was lunchtime and with the relatively small choice of meals and snacks available, (breakfast stops at 11:30am) it would have been reasonable to assume that demand could be met. Wrong! With only three quarters of tables occupied, my first choice of meal was unavailable due to a lack of potatoes. So, having had to choose another dish, twenty minutes passed before being informed that an ingredient for that was missing. I found this unacceptable and left having been refunded for the inconvenience of having to put up with such shoddy service. I was not the only complainant and something needs doing to improve service in this establishment.
