Roosters Bar & Restaurant at Morley Hayes in Erewash

I've been going here for many years with family and friends and the Dovecote restaurant upstairs for special occasions we even had my my sister's wedding at the hotel all i can say is ive never had a bad meal or experience the food is always beautify cooked and presented and has a fantastic range of gastro style pub food done extremely well and very reasonably priced in a lovely cosy location but i can't leave a review without giving a massive thank you to the Amazing bar staff and team they are nothing less than impeccable they make you feel extremely welcome and are polite, helpful and couldn't do enough for you this is how a bar should be run. It goes without saying but as i have for many years i would highly recommend Morley Hayes and Roosters Bar for any occasion a big thank you for all the lovely memories D'Arcy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Same great service, food and atmosphere as ever. Busy considering tonight is firework night. Andrew and Robert can be rightly proud of their business.

I took my grandson for food at Spike bar (checked food opening times on website) which stated was until 5pm however after my visit website was changed to 4pm. Man in Spike Bar phoned kitchen and they wouldn’t serve food and said we must go over to Roosters. When over there I spoke to 2 girls on reception and pointed out about website and that the food choice my grandson has made was £1 cheaper in Spike bar. She phoned Spike bar and she said all we can do offer you a table here and I asked if manager was available and she sighed and fetched her. In between that happening girl came through with smirk on her face so one can imagine the conversation behind our backs! Unprofessional! Manager came and assured me prices were same in both places but I had copied Spike bar menu and there was a £1 difference. She then agreed to take £1 off our bill. My main point is that it is not the first time that opening food times for Spike bar were wrong on website - we had been inconvenienced and then whole incident in my opinion was that we were the problem and not once had anyone said SORRY! This is awful customer service for such a high profile place. Casting aside the food we were served in the end was good.

What a shame that this ‘bar’ seems to have lost its way since our last visit. We popped in for lunch, as on our previous visit. This time all different staff and a less than satisfactory meal ( for one of us). No problem getting a table, drinks and food orders taken quite quickly. Unfortunately, my husband’s wine glass was chipped - this is a huge ‘No’ in any establishment. He enjoyed his meal, no complaints. Mine was half good and half almost inedible due to the incredibly greasy chips. I pointed this out to a lovely waitress and then to the ‘manager’. Both members of staff were helpful and apologetic and the price of the chip portion was not on the bill. Apparently, I wasn’t the only customer who complained about the chips, so the cooking method really needs to be changed.

The food and service was excellent however the furniture massively lets the place down. The room is gorgeous with lovely beams on the ceiling but the seating and tables are nothing short of rubbish. The green plastic seating is all worn and it was noticeable that the bottom of some of the chairs are falling out. The menus are in plastic booklet, like a cafe style. It really makes the place feel like it's stuck in the 90's. It's such a shame as the room is lovely and the food is good.

You can never go wrong with Morley Hayes! Such a nice atmosphere, amazing food & kind-hearted waiters/waitresses. Special mention to Jonathan, he was so welcoming & nothing was too much trouble!

Great Service and great food. Only feedback would be to serve the small plate taco on a bigger plate to avoid it slipping over the edge and onto the table. Great meal though, would highly recommend.

Lovely venue, some staff a bit abrupt but others were very nice. The food was very mediocre, cheap produce but not cheap prices, frozen chips pre bought pies etc. should have guessed that the food would not be good as very extensive menu which is usually a bad sign if you want quality food that tastes good

The service was outstanding, the menu extensive and the food was delicious, perfectly cooked and very generous servings. Always our first choice for dining out when we have children with us. Thank you.

Still good experience but food presentation sometimes not. Too much food piled up on too small plate. Veg used to arrive in separate bowl which is better for some meals. Chips placed on plate first under beef stew and gravy equals soggy chips! Morley Hayes special used to be IN large Yorkshire pudding, not at side of smaller one. All off-putting and difficult to work through. Please use larger plates as appropriate and less bowls.

We called in for lunch without booking. Only problem being no one at the ‘Wait here to be served’ station - as a disabled person, that’s something I cannot do. After I spoke with a staff member in the nearby office, she found a waiter who took us to a table. This ‘Wait here’ can be a problem in many catering facilities, but I just sat on a nearby seat. The waiting staff that attended to us were all pleasant, cheerful and courteous. I ordered a GF meal, no problem but would have appreciated a wider choice. Food was fresh and quickly served - I was concerned after reading some rather scathing reviews, but our meal was absolutely fine. Hopefully, at some point, we will return.

So very disappointing birthday dinner - Caesar Salad served on hot plate, bacon strips fatty not crispy, chicken breast plonked in middle of bed of lettuce so tough and over cooked couldn’t cut let alone chew , 3 slithers of Parmesan cheese - could not recommend

Visited Roosters Bar as a family of seven to celebrate my husband's "big" birthday and could not fault our experience at all. We were seated quickly, drinks orders taken immediately, and as soon as we had had a look at the menus our orders were taken. Our ages ranged from 5- 80years (oops - that big birthday!) so obviously our food choices varied quite a lot but the meals came out without a problem The staff were attentive and helpful, as always, so once again, I would like to thank everyone at Morley Hayes a great service, great food with great ambience and hospitality.

I recently visited your establishment on Tuesday, 13th February to celebrate my partner’s birthday, and I wanted to share some feedback with you. Morley Hayes holds a special place in our hearts as my parents got married there, and we have been loyal patrons for the past 20 years. However, I must express my disappointment with the decline in both food quality and service, particularly in Roosters Bar. The ambiance and service in Roosters Bar felt reminiscent of a chain pub, rather than the upscale experience we have come to expect from Morley Hayes. There were instances where the waitress behind the counter loudly called out to a young male waiter, which seemed inappropriate and detracted from the overall atmosphere. While the house breads starter was tasty, it was overshadowed by the excessive amount of olive oil provided in the ramekin, making it difficult to enjoy the bread with the balsamic vinegar. As for the main course, I ordered the hunters chicken, a dish known for its simplicity. However, I was disappointed to find that the chicken was overcooked and tough, resembling reheated packet meat. Additionally, the bacon topping appeared burnt, further detracting from the dish’s appeal. I share this feedback with the hope that it will contribute to the ongoing improvement of your establishment. Morley Hayes holds a special place in our hearts, and we sincerely hope to see a return to the high standards of quality and service that we have come to know and love over the years.

Visited tonight 2/2 very underwhelmed by the service and food I chose a burger and chips very plain boring frozen chips burger was nice and just a pile of rocket out of a bag only good thing was the burger was made with real meat otherwise flavour was on a par with a cheap pub. Gave our order for sauces which were actually sachets like a cafe. Waitress came for food order then realised nobody had taken a drinks order so took our drinks order with food, waited ages for food and had finished our drinks and had to call a waiter/waitress to order more drinks no attention or checking on tables, when our food arrived no one actually checked to see if everything was ok , had to call someone again to get the bill and clear the plates, apparently we were asked if we wanted deserts but I didn’t hear them. One of the people dining with me asked to take some food home in a takeaway box she then waited 25mins for someone to get one and only after we had reminded them. The bill came but it had all the desserts on from another table which had then been taken off What a shambles. I realised it was about 12years since I’d ate here (fb reminded me) and I was underwhelmed then nothing has changed There are so many wonderful places to eat in Derby this in my opinion isn’t one of them

The place was decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations and gorgeous twinkly lights. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Though 1 waiter never did bring me a spoon ha! Would defo recommend, reasonably priced too. Glad I booked as did seem quite busy

7 of us ate here last night for a special "big" birthday meal. Two of us had the lasagne and we noticed that the prices have gone up and the portion sizes have gone down, & they were child portion lasagnes at that! The lasagne was barely warm and the garlic bread was cold. One of us had the belly pork and there were just two slices and the remainder of the meal was made of up a bowl of salad and a bowl of coleslaw, again for the money paid, not worth it. The lemon tart was inedible as the lemon filling was very hard, but to be fair to MH they did deduct it from the bill when we complained. The vegetables on the two pie dishes were also cold. There was barely any caramel sauce on the two ice creams, again, prices have risen and the amount of sauce was scarce. The hot chocolate was also luke warm. Not the usual standard from Morley Hayes for the rising prices you pay. We will not return.

This is my first time at Morley Hayes and I can honestly say what a wonderful place it is. From driving towards the hotel the Christmas lights are outstanding and the indoor decorations are beautiful also. The staff were 100% attentive even though it was very busy and the drinks and food came out quickly. I can't wait for my next visit.

Always a great venue for a meal whether Roosters or the Dovecote. Last night we celebrated my daughters birthday in Roosters and venue, service and food were as excellent as ever. Staff also very helpfully and thoughtfully supported us with getting a surprise birthday cake to the table. Made the evening even more special for her. Thanks you to all the MH team.

Service was the worst I have ever seen. My food Pork Belly was burnt hard and not edable. We had to ask for drinks, and the bill four times. The food took so long I was ready to leave. I will never go here again. The other people with me I have to say the food was ok and wish I had ordered the same.

A lovely meal with good service. The camembert starter was delicious cooked yo perfection with a lovely hint of garlic. The morley hayes special was as delicious as always. a nice selection of vegetables too which was pleading received abd makes a change from the usual carrots abd peas. The cornflake tart was tasty but had been reheated in the microwave making the pastry case soft and the cornflakes a little chewy. overall, the food and drinks were great. I wish staff would have told the two young girls who were running around to sit down as this spoilt the atmosphere so what is usually a lovely dining experience.

Had a recommendation to visit and was disappointed. A few of the team clearly didn’t want to be there! Not much of an atmosphere, food very average, nothing as expected. Our plates were left on the table after our starter for around 10 minutes with the team constantly passing and looking, we had clearly finished. Would not return which is a shame as we wanted to try the other facilities at Morley Hayes.

This is one of our go to places for my friend and I to do ladies who lunch. We went yesterday (Friday) and whilst it has always been good, I felt a review was necessary. Firstly, whilst we have never, ever had cause to criticise the food, on some occasions the waiting staff have let it down. But not yesterday, the three young (male) waiters were faultless, they were professional, attentive, were able to communicate, but were not invasive. Added to that they were rather easy on the eye!! (We could have probably been their grandmothers). I must also mention the lady who has worked there for quite a long time, who too is excellent. It must be great for her to be working alongside some efficient staff members who genuinely seem to take pride in their jobs - such a refreshing change these days.
