I never write reviews however the man that does all the transactions like selling the balls and ice cream is horrible, I was buying a ball and he shook it in my childs face as in hurry up and take it! He was then arguing with another customer about not sitting in his outdoor chairs as they hadn't ordered yet. I love barry island but I will never be getting anything from his shop as he is very rude, avoid at all costs.

The worst cafe I've ever had the misfortune to eat in. Rude, nasty owner and a useless cook. Cracked coffee mugs, stuck piled up every where. There was nothing good here! In hindsight, we should have just got up and left when the food came out...

Bought 2 lots of fish and chips and a sausage to take away £15 for the 2 lots of fish and chips.omg chips looked awful fish looked nothing like were expecting was rock hard and looked like frozen fish out of a box.the sausage for the dog looked horrible and brown inside.we threw the 2 lots of fish and chips and the sausage straight in the bin as didnt want to risk being I'll.what a waste of money.this shop shouldn't be open to the public.save your money and go elsewhere in Barry island

Bought 3 waffle cone ice-creams. The waffle cones were stale. The banana ice-cream was gritty and stale. Looked disgusting. Server said it was fresh. He would not change the scoop. AVOID!!

Please avoid if you are looking to eat in Barry Island, find somwhere else!!! our food was bitter(fish and chips) and we just had 3bites in total since it’s borderline not edible!!!!Again, find somewhere else!

It was a dry day, so we decided to visit Barry Island. It was early and Romys was just about the only cafe open, so we sat outside on the table (that was cleaned before we sat down) and ordered two cooked breakfasts. The man who served us was friendly and the food was cooked to order. The food was really nice made with good quality ingredients and was more appetising than a previous visit we had earlier in the year. After our breakfast we took a stroll on the beach.

Had a great day at Barry Island. Popped in quick for chips. They were ok, but wouldn't come back because I only ate a few. There was a lot of stuff for sale in the shop.

We waited for a while before the server even came to the counter. My girlfriend then asked for an ice cream and got shouted at "I CANT HEAR YOU!" Because she didn't speak loud enough?? Ridiculously rude and made us both feel very uncomfortable. Over priced and service is absolutely terrible. Would not recommend to anyone!

I’d rather eat from a bin... wouldn’t ever recommend going here. Chips tasted out of date, is that even possible???? Bad experience. It’s like a newsagent, clothes shop, dump and cafe? Atrocious prices, food nasty, wouldn’t recommend. 1st and last time. Tables dirty, bad customer service. 1 man band needs some staff and manners and writing skills as his prices don’t add up. Card machine not available either I guess cause he likes to short change people.

Was waiting ages to be served as only one person working, because I wanted to order food I was asked to wait while he to out other food. Young lads were stealing as they were waiting do

We were most impressed with Remy’s we asked for a tea and a weak latte as I can’t drink coffee too strong he was very obliging lovely and hot we’ve been there a few times now we would recommend it.

I ordered a medium slush puppy which was £1.50 (only thing price marked), chocolate ice cream and 4 donuts. Came to £10 disgusting over priced, donuts were not fresh they were reheated and did not use gloves. Avoid this place at all costs it’s disgusting

I had food / drink at Romy's... the drink (a bottle of tango) was two YEARS out of date... the food was cold and inedible. The man was rude to me. What a weird place.

One bad sign is when a cafe is empty, had burger and chips the bun was moldy while the lemonade was 15 months out of date. No apology.

5 diners, 2 which were children...ordered food and drinks, had to ask for drinks more than once...breakfasts arrived and they were inedible, mushrooms tasted days old, egg wasnt cooked. One diner had omelette and it wasnt cooked, asked for another one and it was just blasted in the microwave and was still not cooked...asked for a refund but the owner walked away!! Do not go here...waste of £30!!!!

Took my wife and mother here today for food Ordered food at counter waitress was more interested in her phone than her job Food never arrived had to go back in and ask where food was unfortunately had to distract waitress from her phone to chase order eventually did arrive and was a case of from freezer to frier to table , Very poor quality food service but top price if you can avoid this place quicker and better to stand in queue at one of the better establishments on the front and better value food

The food would be nice if it had real chips not frozen. Customer service needed to be better as he was out the back on his phone the entire time expect when he took the order. Other people came in while I was waiting they stood around for 5 minutes and then gave up and walked away. Make sure their is someone out the front at all times simple customer experience!!

Popped in with my two children after a walk on the beach. Wish we hadn't! He short changed me even though he charged nearly a fiver for two kids ice creams. One of them was out of date, the other one was disgusting. The cone was stale and soft and the ice cream had a tainted taste.The whole place smells of rancid cooking oil.If you have young children, you may want to ask them to wait outside. He has a counter full of VERY explicit (male and female anatomy) 'fun adult' sweets right at kids eye level. He could.put them higher up. Maybe for 'effect' he has them at that level. Again, shocked and disgusted. I wouldn't recommend this place if it was the last place on earth that sold ice cream and my four year was having an epic meltdown!

Having visited here before for a very nice breakfast, I was disappointed by my recent experience. We arrived in Barry early and thought we would have a coffee here and check out the lunch time menu. Romy seemed in a mood and slammed the drinks down on the table without uttering a word (on the previous occasion he had been polite and chatty). Following this, we decided to get fish and chips else where. Will never visit again.

dont waste you money in this shop disgusting food and attitude! felt sorry for the girl who works there. the shop smelled and out of date drinks and when I asked I want fresh cod and chips and gave.frozen cod and oven baked chips. no apology or refund didnt have a clue how to run a business. had my 2 kids with me which I'm glad I didnt gave them any food. food health inspectors should by a visit.

WOW..... reading the reviews thought maybe just an off day......but no it really is disgusting at best.So we went for array of different foodJP cheese and beansAll Day breakfastChilli and chips (no rice available)Cheese omllette (which came with ham)Small group of us sat out front of Romy's with a pleasant view.The owner came asked what drinks we would like and if we wanted to eat. As it was lunch time (1:30) we took a chance but the signs were there as ALL the other eating places all along the strip had people eating outside it a part from this place.30 mins later still nothing having finished our drinks the first dish arrived chilli and chips but the young lad didn't know what it was calling it "chips and stew I think?" (And to be fair to the lad it was very watery) when corrected he said I don't know I wouldn't eat it! 10mins later the well over cooked breakfast and arrived....but still no JP or omllette!After both meals had been eaten the JP arrived luke warm beans not quite hot enough to melt the cheese and JP (clearly out of the freezer) still stone cold spots Then just as I was contemplating asking if they could put it back in the microwave the omllette arrived and I just wanted to pay and leave. If you are reading this and thinking we'll maybe they are just having an off day.....NO it's just very poor food

Terrible service needs a food hygiene check ordered breakfast and there was 3 hairs in my food then asked for ketchup and there was hairs as well serves halal meat and out of date food the food was burnt food tye servers hands not washed and there was no gloves worn terrible save yourself's the misery and don't go here trust me it's a bad desision

I visited this hell hole at the end of a lovely sunny day at the beach to grab a drink before heading home.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and ordered drinks and cake. Nothing wrong with the drinks apart from a badly chipped mug but oh the cake! Red Velvet, a deceiving title for a brick that couldn't be cut with a fork. Chocolate cake, so hard and dry that it had to be spat out.

3 of us were stood outside, reluctant to go in; deep down we knew something was awry.

Went with my family and girlfriend on a lush sunny Wednesday afternoon for a day at the beach and we got peckish, got "served" by a foreign gentleman who unfriendly in every way you could imagine, ordered two large chips for £2 EACH, received the chips which are very lazily chucked onto an insultingly small tray not even enough to be considered snack forj just one person, trying to feed 7 people. The chips were incredibly mediocre, just on the border of acceptable as we finished the "meal" within seconds. Naturally underwhelmed we went off to the beach, unfortunately I made the mistake of leaving my swimming trunks at home so we went back to purchase some, we were "served" by the Irish woman I've been hearing so much about on the other reviews who was unfriendly, unhelpful and unprofessional, we ask for large men's trunks and she says "I dunno probably" and suggests towards a box that is clearly what the trunks were packaged and the manufacturer sent them in

My friends and hubby, six kids and myself that went here with me.my friend on the review underneath was been polite really. The lunatic Irish woman demanded us to move out the way cuz she was trying to get the stuff in from out side there were menus on the table look at those she barked. She demanded to know who was with who and who was paying. When we said there were to separate family's she started huffing. I wanted to Leave but my hubby was hungry and said just sit down. I asked for seven tray of chips at 1.50 as was to scared for my kids to eat anything else. Apparently that wasn't available but we could have £2 plate of chips figure that out. She was drunk and stunk of alcohol, I had to tell her 2times7 was £14.i advised my friend to work his bill out in advance which she got wrong as well and then forgot how much was said. I mean come on love sort ur life out what a embarrassment to ur self. Then my kids were laughing ageing from 15 to 3 and baby asleep in the pram she said that's it so funny laughing at me just keep laughing at that point I was going to say something but my hubby give me the look lol. It was dirty is a understatement the sauce was afu ny colour and lids had just filth on them, I told the kids not to use it. She scared my children that much that my 11 year old left her food and made a excuse she needed the toilet and said I don't won't to use the one here. So she made a guick exit to the door,I left my family and friends the and took her and the baby with me to the toilet by ginos and when coming out my and my daughter went to ginos which I highly recommend and staff are lovely. The others meet up there with me at ginos and had a ice cream. When I asked them how they got on the said they had left the food it tasted disgusting and the mad lady and asain man just stood there staring at them and kept repeating how much she wanted to go home. You would not believe the restraint it touch not to go back with out my kids and say what I wanted to please save ur self and don't go here. I won't even give the one only have to fill that in

Once inside we were "greeted" by a mad Irish woman who seemed to be under the influence of some substance by the smell of her breath and the way she was acting. We sat down after being told to because she was trying to bring chairs and tables in and there are "menus on the table instead of blocking the isle". Ok so we sat down and she instantly wanted us to order even before we had chance to read it. "Cash upfront she said!" Alarm bells were ringing in my head by now. Anyway we ordered because everyone was hungry and after a few attempts to tell her what we wanted she finally got it right. She brought over dirty sauce bottles that contained an unclear red substance and were sticky and dirty with congealed sauce over the top ...not nice ! She asked us if we need cutlery ??? Seriously??

We were sucked into visiting this cafe by the Irish traveller lady who was on the door telling us how good the food is . Well they might as well call it Iceland Cafe , because everything we had ordered , tasted like it came straight from the freezers in Iceland . Could have made this ourself when we got home , instead of paying 20 odd quid for it . Was hoping it would have been real home cooked food . Little chance of that. Sauces could do with a wipe over too .

Ordered 2 breakfasts and a faggots peas chips and gravy. Sat outside because it was a sunny day but cold. Ordered 2 coffees which seemed ok. Took a while to be served. We were on our way to whitmore and Jackson or johns cafe but this Irish women was on the door and persuaded us to eat there. My friend left his bacon and half his sausage because I don't think it was cooked. My son left some of his as well. As for my faggots and peas. The faggots were hard and I don't know what was in them. The peas were soggy and tasteless so was the faggots. The chips were like the £1 bag for 5kgs that you buy in morrisons and soggy and tasteless. The gravy was tasteless and was probably just made out of cheap gravy granules. The waitress said to us. I am fed up wish I hadn't come in today. So much for customer service. Table still had bits of food on it and sauce bottles looked as if they had been refilled many times. Wish we had made it to whitmore and jacksons which is excellent or johns cafe which is good.

What can I say, this place should not be serving food, we ordered ham, egg and chips , the chips where ok but the ham was the 0.40p a packet happy shopper ham that tasted of nothing which I left and the egg was really greasy the vinegar bottle was sticky and the sauce bottle looked like it had been there over hundred years and looked like treacle was disgusting avoid the place got bad belly after it and the toilet which had out of order sign on it but we were told to use had no taps to wash hands. Eww AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID

All the cafes were very busy in an out , then we saw this dump which was nearly empty. The alarm bell's should have ring then, but we went in. We ordered our food and drinks which took ages to come. The food was dry and tasteless .

We ordered chips and a few drinks here on a sunny afternoon. The chips were very average. The waitress serving us had a quick break whilst we were eating on the outside tables and chairs and she stood smoking a few feet from where we were eating (I kid you not!) Customer service was pretty awful.

We were hungry and wanted somewhere to eat fairly quickly before getting to the busier parts of Barry Island. My dad saw the special of the day - pie and chips for £2.50. Without any great expectations we went in. The six of us were seated together and an Irish lady came to serve us. There only appeared to be her and a gentlemen behind the bar. Our drinks orders were taken and delivered fast, with the two 12 year old boys getting bottles from the fridge. The lattes were hot and quite tasty and the tea perfectly acceptable. The coffee with milk was very strong.

Hemos comido en greasey cafés cuchara ha sido decente comida bien preparada no somos snobs. Pedimos 2 desayuno y 2 botellas de coca-cola lo que conseguimos era simplemente la peor comida que he tomado. Toda la comida parecía húmedo la mayoría era insípida con la excepción de las piezas de cartón simulando ser el tocino y las salchichas que eran de un color raro por dentro y por fuera y sabía de nada de lo que he experimentado antes. Las salsas eran del mismo color que las salchichas. Pudimos beber la coca cola ya que estaba en una botella sellada. Una vez que habíamos pagado y ordenados sólo noté cómo todo sucio es que olía raro, nos fuimos y nos fuimos a otro lado.

Called in for a coffee when walking the area. All satisfactory but not necessarily somewhere I would rush back to.

Helado servido sin guantes. Explicar porque su dueño las manos son limpias. Cuando le dimos helado atrás y pedir restitución él empezar agresivo. Evita este lugar.

Sólo desearía que me había visto en Tripadvisor antes de entrar en este café. Visité Barry para el día con mi nieta de 8 años el sábado. El día era caluroso y había mucha gente la mayoría de los buenos principios de abril el clima....

Empezaron empacando mientras nos sentamos allí, ignorante de la tienda - zona agreste - bravo gente, mala lengua. Una pena, tenía grandes esperanzas para Barry como me dijeron que pasé un poco de tiempo y dinero en él. No podíamos ver donde!

Estábamos contentos de poder sentarse fuera en el sol. Pescado y papas fritas estaban bien. Mi marido pidió indicaciones para el inodoro, era dirigida sólo a uno Personal etiquetado.

Wow, where do I start! Out of date drinks, out of date sauce sachets!This place should not be serving food, it is filthy, we left after a few mouthfuls of food, the curry sauce turned our tongues bright green for hours & left people in my family poorly the day after visit. Disgusting

Really don't visit this place it's disgusting only found out after we had ordered it's a 1 rating the food was awful came away from there feeling ill ( the girl that serverd us look like she self harmed ) will never visit there again worst £35 ever spent

Absolutely awful, I would only recommend this cafe to someone that enjoys raw bacon, stale bread and tea served in a filthy mug. Please be sure you knock the dead flys off the sauce bottles.

Food took soooooooooo long to arrive it was a joke - waited 30 minutes for my coffee and that after asking for it twice People came in after us, had their food and left and still no sign of ours - when we asked about it after 45 minutes the cook insisted he had just got the order!!! We got offered other peoples food on numerous occasions as the lady just went from table to table asking who the food was for........Even for no frills sea side food this was bad and the state of the table condiments was really dirty. ..and the tomato ketchup was mainly vinegar ...blechBarry Island is a great place and eating out there is part of going there - pleased to see lots of new places cropping up to try as I won't be visiting this place again nor would I recommend it to anyone else

Came across this cafe while visiting Barry for the day with family.Not very busy but still took 10 minutes to take our order. They only take cash and cannot add up, I suggest taking a calculator with you as they add the prices as you order.We sat talking for 25 minutes when the waitress asked us for our order (again)!!Between 14 of us only 7 were eating.Food took a further 15 minutes and came out incomplete and a poor standard.Just as well only a day trip so we never have to return to this place again.If you're hungry go somewhere else.

I was absolutely disgusted with firstly the service, we were served three times with lots of confusion, we only ordered burger and chips and fish and chips and a doctor pepper!! We decided to sit inside after the heat outside and the seagulls!! We sat on a very dirty table with no condiments except a disgusting bottle of viniger with lots of dirt which looks like its been there a while. One of 3 of our order came first and she was asked about ketchup which she said yes to. When it finally got there the branston bottle was sticky and covered in oil with no date on it. We then checked the dates on our drinks and to our surprise they were 4 months out of date I then changed the drinks and in getting to the fridge I realized that alllllll of them were out of date and a couple bad july on them and the staff replied aww don't worry it's only july now!! I was shocked but anyway the second plate came out and I waited a further 20 mins for my food and when it came it was left on the table by the aggressive 'chef' for the staff to bring to me when I replied that's mine, the food was disgusting and allllll fried in the same oil the batter was dark brown and I could pick my whole fish up on my fork as it was like a rock!! I also paid an extra 1 pound for mushy pees but when it came they were extremely dry and crispy as if they were burnt amongst all of this the staff were heard arguing in the kitchen we found black hair in food?! I'm blonde!! You could see in the kitchen and it was minging!! There were curtains covering rubbish and when I complained about the service and asked for a refund I was. Basically told no! And go away! The staff acted as if this happens on a regular occasion so I walked out with no refund and I reported them to the council!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

Loved the cappuccino and my wife enjoyed the latte had a late night nice standard stuff and very friendly staff. If I'm back around the here I'll be back

Very poor service. The girl who served us didn't have a clue what she was doing, couldn't even make a pot of tea properly.And it is quite expensive for what you actually get.Will not go again.

We called at this Cafe as it looked popular and ordered fish and chips.As soon as we cut through the batter it was clearly not cooked although the batter was brown.The frozen chips were also not appetising. The vinegar bottle was covered with deposits! including the top. We took the meals back and a single look we we refunded without any quibble.We asked if there was a toilet before we left and were pointed in the direction of a staff toilet which had a notice to report any problems, the management did not appear to be impressed when we pointed out the lack of any toilet paper, soap or towels.On return home we checked the Food Standards Agency rating for this cafe and found it was last inspected Aug 2013 and given 2/5 had we known at the time we would not have even considered eating here, suspect no improvement. We will not visit again.
