Roka Mayfair in City of London, Westminster

It's "the restaurant" in London, the cuisine is exquisite, the staff are super pleasant and friendly, honestly I went there for the first time today but it won't be my last, be sure 😉 I highly recommend it, best to book in advance 🙂

ROKA Mayfair offers a top-tier Japanese dining experience with a chic ambiance and an open robata grill. Their Black Cod Marinated in Yuzu Miso is a standout—perfectly cooked with a rich, sweet, and citrusy glaze. The Yellowtail Sashimi with Truffle and Yuzu Dressing is another must-try, balancing freshness with deep umami flavors. Service is attentive, and the atmosphere is stylish yet lively. While prices are on the higher side, the exceptional food and experience make it worth it. Highly recommend for a sophisticated Japanese meal in Mayfair!

I had great memories of this restaurant. We went back on a Saturday evening… big disappointment. Good food without more, exorbitant prices and average atmosphere. Damage !

Love this restaurant and great food!

After years of convincing, the OH finally booked this as a surprise anniversary dinner. Overall, the food was nice, not mouth-watering, but nice. The service for us was ok, but the poor diners next to us had abysmal service. While I'm glad to have ticked Roka off my list, whether I return or not is no big deal to me!

Extremely disappointed with the arrogant manger. Had to wait 30 mins for our table and couldn't even offer us a drink. When we asked begrudgingly he gave me table a glass of wine each. I don't drink wine, so asked for another drink. He initially agreed and when the bill came he added it to the bill. Food was good but service ruined it all.

A reservation is a must, and you can’t be seated earlier than your scheduled time. The service and food are amazing, but the chairs are quite close to each other—something to consider if you prefer more space. بسم الله اوله و اخره

La comida era excepcional. Edamame era sabroso y perfecto. La aplicación de berenjenas y las albóndigas de setas / espárragos eran increíbles. La tempura de cangrejo de concha especial y suave de cerdo era impresionante, al igual que la brocheta de pollo. Nigoiri saki era excelente también. Ambiente fresco también.

Excellent food and big choice. The sashimi were great. The barbecued Madagascan prawn were over cooked and the manager kindly removed it from the bill. The black cod was amazing

Service was awful and delayed, food was not worth the price at all and came out extremely delayed, had to ask where it was after waiting a lot of time for things, and we were not given the right sashimi order. staff were rude , we were given a table late and rushed out , very bad experience.

Roka unfortunately has lost its spark... the tables were worn out... set menu for £88 per person was a joke... we had 2 slices of sashimi each... then the prawn tempura we had 1 each.. bare in mind we requested the £88 set menus x4... rhenium chicken thighs!!! The cheapest part of the chicken chargrilled asparagus and the rest I cant remember as is was shit. Not worth the money complete rip off

Yesterday we had dinner at the Japanese ROKA Mayfair, near Grosvenor Square. An 8 restaurant. Some very well done ribs for which we had to ask for a knife and fork, an excellent rice with mushrooms and truffle (kamameshi with truffle), some excellent tempura prawns, excellent baked black cod although small in quantity. And for dessert, a dark and white chocolate cake with march. A glass of Gran Dominio red wine (the worst) and a glass of protein. And after dessert a glass of sake with lemon (ume no yado yuzu shu) which was good but a little soggy. All £261 Excellent service thanks to the fact that the waitress was from Seville (Nerea Ortiz) and she interpreted the menu for us and did not let us order what we were initially going to order and it was a success.

Así que llegamos allí como una familia estábamos 5 minutos retrasados que llamamos con antelación para dejar que los retrasos del tubo, todo estaba bien en la llamada. Desde el momento en que llegamos allí nos dijeron la hora a la que teníamos que salir de la mesa y todo estuvo bien. Nos sentamos esperando 25 minutos para que alguien viniera hasta que tratamos de captar la atención. Así que eso ya quita tiempo constantemente tuvimos que llamar la atención durante todo nuestro tiempo allí. Hablaron de nosotros como si no estuviéramos allí diciendo que tienen que irse ahora cuando fue la falta de servicio lo que retrasó la llegada de la comida y la bebida! Este nivel de falta de respeto es inaceptable. La comida no era genial. Pero para ser honestos para un evento familiar que estábamos deseando que lo arruinaran. ¡Gracias!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the food tastes good, but the service was disastrous. My meal came much earlier than my companion's, and by the time her main course arrived, the side dish was already cold and I was finished eating. The employee who spoke to us was rude, didn't apologize and didn't even listen to us. Instead, she just turned around and left. There was no discount or concession - we had to pay full price. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant because of the disrespectful service.

Very nice food but I think they need to replace a lot of the staff as they aren’t helpful and come across quite rude. The standards of service just aren’t good enough for a restaurant like this. They also charge 14.5% service which I have never known in the UK and is certainly not warranted here.

Really excellent, we ate in front of the chefs, a truly great experience. the meat is really excellent. A little expensive perhaps but highly recommended!

Mooie ambiance, vriendelijke bediening, maar prijs kwantiteit laat te wensen over. Wel erg kleine gerechtjes tegen erg gepeperde prijzen. Maar de tent zat vol, dus reserveren is aan te raden als je dit restaurant wil bezoeken. Voor ons was het seen it, done it.

Dear Roka Team, I am writing to express my disappointment with the service we received during our New Year meal at your restaurant. We have been regulars since 2017 but unfortunately our experience was far from what we expected. The service was incredibly slow, and the staff was not only unhelpful but also quite unwelcoming. Despite requesting green tea twice, it took an unreasonable amount of time for it to arrive. We had to wait for the mushroom hot pot for longer than we normally do and at one point had to walk to the bar in order to pick up the Prosecco we had ordered a while back. When the green tea finally arrived, it was served in a cup that was badly chipped, which only added to the overall negative experience. To make matters worse, there was no apology or acknowledgment from the staff about service delays. The unwelcoming attitude of the staff, no attention to detail and rude demeanor was truly disheartening. I would appreciate it if you could address these issues to ensure that future guests have a much more enjoyable experience. We will definitely not be back in a hurry.

This spot is a solid choice for sushi in Mayfair if you’re looking for something on the nicer end without being exorbitantly priced (though it’s still £100+ per head). The interior is trendy but a bit sterile, lacking that certain charm, yet the food is consistently delicious, making it a dependable option.

Good food but some of the portions are a bit small. Japanese eggplant was sublime .

I recently visited this trendy Japanese restaurant and had a good experience. Despite not having a reservation, I was friendly greeted by what seemed to be the manager. He quickly instructed a hostess to find me a table, and she seated me at the counter right by the highly frequented kitchen passage - according to her the last available spot. Although I noticed several empty seats that could have accommodated a solo diner like me, I accepted the spot without hesitation as I had no reservation. The waitress who took my order was friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. I went with her suggestions: the crab and black cod dumplings, seabream, and added the warm eggplant salad and mochi for dessert. All dishes were nicely presented and delicious. The atmosphere was good, the food was great, and the service was responsive and efficient when needed. While the prices are on the higher side, the overall experience made it worthwhile. Bottom line: A pricey but good Japanese restaurant with great food, good ambiance, and attentive service. I’d return.

I love ROKA. Dumplings selection can be expanded. Salads are 10/10. Crispy prawn avocado maki 10/10.

Bad experience w the staff and their inability to comprehend what service entails

Disappointing, went for a birthday, and booked with a note of celebrating a birthday and no acknowledgement :/. Got there on time and our table was still not ready, was told to stand to the side and wait for 5 mins, no offer of a drink or to sit at the bar…Food was disappointing , ordered the beef dumplings and rice , ribs and veg maki/sweet potato tempura - food lacked so much flavour, that we didn’t bother ordering mains or dessert and left to continue our meal and birthday celebrations elsewhere - overpriced and over hyped , no quality . Canary Wharf location was so much better.

Food is very good. Black cod is a must try. Place is quite cramp.

I adore Roka Mayfair. Dropped in for a solo lunch and got a table at the bar with no reservation. The lux set menu for £45 was so delicious and I got 5 courses including the incredible black cod. Its my go-to Asian restaurant in London.

Delicious food and even better cocktails! We had the lunch menu which ended up being a very good deal actually for what you are getting. We also added a few extra bits to it too but the menu itself would have been enough. Absolutely delicious, will definitely be back! Would recommend going for the chilli ginger beef and the black cod. Spinach with sesame was also surprisingly amazing given its just spinach :) would also recommend their Lychee gimlet cocktail, super refreshing and tasty!

Great atmosphere and delicious food!!

Excellent menu, food beautifully cooked and presented, flavourful and unusual combinations. Service somewhat uninterested, an error with a dessert order not apologised for and correct item arrived very late. But I will not be back, because the lovely food can't compensate for having to suffer loud, bland club bpm music for the entire lunchtime service. A shame.

Came twice, food was good in my two visits Had the mushroom rice, wagyu robata, fried shrimp maki roll, spicy edamame My only comment is that waiter had an attitude, didnt do anything wrong! But he had this hidden smile like he was holding a laugh or something… made us feel uncomfortable!

I wouldn’t really recommend this place. Horrible staff and mediocre food. Three of my friends and I went here for lunch and none of us actually liked our food. Everything was just so mediocre. The food wasn’t really delicious and it was delivered cold to our table. Also, absolutely horrible service. Rudest staff I have seen in a while, very entitled, not accommodating at all, not friendly… Overall the staff made it not a good experience for us.

A delicious lunch. We had the the seasonal tasting menu, and each dish was so tasty. Loved being able to see everything cooked in front of you. It was all really fresh and delicious. Service was excellent, we had a great time.

Front desk and bar staff are very miserable as if smiling is illegal to do so. The attitude that they seem to resonate is one of “we are so busy that we don’t really care about you” . Very disappointed by their lack of basic customer service skills which should be of a high standard in a place like this.

Absolutely horrendous quality!!! Its a joke of how they charge such a upper market price for much lower quality than a high street chain. It was supposed to be a special dinner with my son visiting me in town and we both left with a bitter taste in your mouths!

The food of all kinds is very delicious. It is worth trying. The prices are high and the service is fast.

The best sushi I’ve ever had, no question. Every dish was incredible, from the sushi to the side dishes and the perfectly cooked beef filet. The chef clearly knows what they’re doing—everything was on point. Truly exceptional food.

Food and services were great. The atmosphere was nice but the music was a bit too loud.

We went to Roka for a birthday event and the service was so poor. There was a fly in our food and we complained, nothing was done in the day as the manager . My wife wrote back with the photos, no response. I guess they don’t care and think that people come anyway!

This was meant to be a birthday celebration, but we waited far too long to be served or even acknowledged, despite having a booking. No one came to take our order for quite some time. The place is overcrowded, with tables so close together that it almost feels like you’re dining with strangers. The location is great, and the food is nice, but the service and layout could definitely be improved. I did appreciate the ‘Happy Birthday’ note on the dessert, though.

Amazing food though limited for vegetarians whilst I enjoyed it my wife wished for vegetarian gyoza and the tempura could be mixed vegetables (we were regulars of E&O Notting Hill sadly closed down recently and they did the best tempura!!). Had the aubergine loved it, tofu delicious, miso soup must have, beef spicy, sweet potato tempura and squid!! cocktails are good but too small (100ml??) Dinner made better by the lovely Frenchman Julian - so efficient, prompt and amazing!! Looked around while we sat on a counter table - he was on the go with a smile! Merci JULIAN we have been to Roka Mayfair often but this experience is even better thanks to your service!! 🙏

Very attentive staff and great selection of fresh, tasty food. Tasting menu was superb. First few dishes seem on the small side but this is not the case. You will not leave hungry.

Terrible service and with attitude. They forgot twice the food, they brought the same dish twice, I had to renounce at the end and go somewhere else. Took 45 mins of confusion anyways. I’d like to think that, (since it was sooo bad) that it was just a bad day for them.

It’s just ok. Food is just ok. Nothing special and not terribly authentic. It’s a sort of I went here for instagram venue for people without much class or style. The staff give you the once over before deciding where you can sit. Asians seemed to get the bar only so as not to ruin other people’s insta photos which was a bit strange and one the racial profiling spectrum

I was very happy to spend my birthday night in this restaurant, everything was great specially the great team, thanks to the receptionist she was very nice and welcomed us in without a reservation, and the waiter "Casper "was great and very friendly and helpful.

Impressed me from the very first visit. My meal included a variety of exquisite dishes. The sashimi was fresh (melts in your mouth!) and delicate, paired beautifully with the light, tangy sauce. The standout for me was the rice dish cooked in the traditional Japanese pot!! I’ll definitely be coming back!

Roka is always a reliable spot for good food. Highlights were the cod, rice claypot, tuna tartare, baby chicken, and dessert platter, but I enjoy all the food here, nothing disappoints. A little on the pricey side, good for special occasions.

Overpriced Japanese food that was unfortunately not worth the premium price. Popcorn shrimp was average. Shrimp tempura was good but took ages to arrive. The broccoli starter was inedible. Average tasting sushi. Rude waitress. Waste of money and time.

Starting with the only positive - the quality of the food was amazing! Unfortunately, that’s as far as the positives go… the lack of service given was appalling. The portions were fairly small, and given the prices, we expected so much more. The complete lack of attention given by the server was very disappointing…

Have come to this specific brunch twice and have left both times very satisfied with service, food and atmosphere. First of all service was amazing all the way from host to server, they sure do know how to make you feel welcomed. They then provide you with the best service. This is out second time in a week to visit Roka Mayfair, the food, atmosphere and the service are excellent, we been welcoming by the general manager Jose, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming us, we'll visit the place for sure in few days. Raz

The ingredients of each dish were very fresh but seasoning was not quite there. Fish dish which was supposed to be savory than sweet was seasoned very wrongly. But I was very impressed by the desserts.

Average. Food was nice. Kinda stuck up service as our server was very annoyed that we delayed the food order while enjoying our drinks and conversation and told us off. That's shameful behaviour for a Mayfair restaurant. The interior was quite loud and tables were arranged as close as possible to each other.

Es war wie immer sehr gut. Wir hatten das große Tasting Menü und es war eine kulinarische Reise voller Genuss. Es war ausnahmslos alles sehr gut. Der Service, sowie der verantwortliche Betriebsleiter waren sehr aufmerksam. Das Ambiente war gewohnt, cool und lässig. Von allen Roka-Häusern ist es mir das liebste, da kann auch eine Terrasse mit Blick auf den Burj Khalifa wie in Dubai nichts daran ändern.

Tempura and sushi must be tried😌

I decided to visit ROKA Mayfair for lunch on Monday 22nd July, I arrive at around 1:30pm and saw that there were plenty of tables available outside in the terrace at the front of the restaurant and thought it would be nice to enjoy lunch outside considering the sun was out. I was met by an extremely rude front of house team member who said her name was Daniela, I asked for a table for two outside, the terrace was pretty much empty with plenty of tables available however there were no tables with two seats and Daniela aggressively said that we could not sit at any of the available empty tables (which there were at least six of) on the terrace as they had more than two seats around them. Daniela proceeded to be extremely rude announcing that she has worked at the restaurant for two years and had not seen us before. She was laughing to the other hostess taking pleasure in saying that she would not seat us. I was extremely surprised by her demeanour and having enjoyed visiting ROKA Charlotte Street and ROKA Aldwych a number of times was very shocked to have had such an awful experience when visiting ROKA Mayfair. It was noticeable that the ROKA Mayfair was unusually empty and perhaps the chain is going downhill, after this experience I will definitely be avoiding ROKA at all costs and would definitely suggest they conduct a review into the way their team members are treating guests.

Food is delicious but portions could be bigger

A-mazing food. We were there for a work function and we did the multi-course meal which included the sashimi, chili chicken, sea bass, tempura, etc. as well as the dessert platter. So much food and all of it absolutely delicious. Only downside was they needed our table by 8:00pm (we got there at 6:00) so they were rushing us to get our orders in and eat quickly so they could bring the next round. It took over 15 minutes to get cocktail rounds out. Otherwise service would have been a 5 if not for these two detriments.

Food was good and tasty, the mushroom pot is no like it used to be. I remember opening that pot and the whole room would smell of truffle, good times. Kampachi Salad amazing as always, very generous portion of endamame. Service was very friendly, but lacked attentiveness unfortunately, like everywhere in London. Glasses were not topped up with water, plates not cleared promptly and the sake ordered it never arrived, we didn't get charged though which shows it was genuinely forgotten by the waiter. No biggies, but when you pay 15% of service there should not be such issues. Overall a good meal and the recognised my wife's birthday with an amazing dessert platter. Very well done to the Team. Would I recommend it? Yes!!! Will i return? 100% yes! Arigato Roka Mayfair Team!

Have been a customer many times at ROKA and this was the worst experience by far. Simple things like not being greeted when we entered, not being offered to hang our coats. The 'hot towels' we were offered were freezing cold and not refreshing. Once we ordered our food it took AGES to arrive and there were huge gaps in-between each one. The spicy edamame apparently took the longest to prepare as this was completely forgotten about. When finished with the coffee we ordered, the empty cup and saucer was left for so long even though many small plates were being cleared at very large intervals. I then eventually had to also ask for the milk jug and sugars to be taken away from the table to make more space as they were clearly no longer needed. Things like this should be intuitive to the person working our section. Beef skewers arrived over done and chewy, the fillet was not cooked medium as requested and the beef gyozas were brought out cold. I made my feelings known whilst I was there a couple of times however they did not feel as though we were important enough to even come over and try to rectify any mistakes. As someone who works in hospitality and loved coming here, it's a shame to see it go downhill. Won't be coming back anytime soon.

We were here a few times before. Huge difference ☹️. The prices triple since 6 month ago. And this is not a big issue. The portions are so much smaller. The food nothing special at all. If was so much better selection before. Not anymore. They are trying to impress with food presentation. All they have as of now is location. Presentation is ok. Location is good 👍. Service most of the Turkey is pleasant Never coming back here for sure. You don’t get what you paying for $$$$.

We ate here for a special occasion. Extremely busy. We were 6. Was a birthday event that waitress did nothing special with sadly. Poor rapport with customers, no personal connection attempt at all. Sad given the pounds spent. Food is excellent. Poor service for standard. Not sure how management does not pick up on this. Would not return to this location.

I really enjoyed the food here. Small portions but delicious. Price wise a bit costly so I recommend going for set menu (they had two options) we paid £50 each for 4 plates and one hot sake

The food was amazing. We had the Premium menu with Kobe upgrade. Good quality and large quantity. The main problem was that we felt all the time like we were pushed to eat fast. The waiters kept bringing food to the table even we told them to slow down a little bit. If you are having Kobe meat, you’d like to enjoy it warm and at your pace. The atmosphere was nice, but the music too loud to hold a normal conversation.

Good food. Very nice presentation for some dishes. Had the premium menu. Felt a bit rushed by having the staff brining multiple hot dishes one after the other and them going cold because it was too much food in not enough time to eat.

12th June 2024- 7pm Reservation -Birthday Celebration- I came here to celebrate my Birthday with my Mum and what can I say Edyta, our waitress and the rest of the team were amazing. 10/10 service Edyta was a lovely waitress her attention to detail was top notch. She looked very smart in her uniform and her friendly approach was relaxing. The Food was 10/10 The Atmosphere for a Wednesday Evening was busy but chilled. Smiles all around The restaurant was very tidy and again the food was excellent. Order the chicken wings and dumplings they were a big hit. Can’t wait to go back Thanks again Edyta ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Second time here. Great food. Five star service and atmosphere. From salad (iceberg with caramalized onions and gyoza) to mains (baby back ribs and chicken wings) to desert (mochi and sorbet) everything was delicious.
