Absolutely so disappointed with the food was so looking forward to coming here my chicken needed armbands to swim in the oil it came to the table literally drowned in the stuff to be told it's garlic butter and there was definitely was no garlic & herb butter 😞 just sat on soggy coleslaw 🤮 totally off putting. Well thank you Roebuck however on this occasion we're going to have agree to disagree with what happened there was absolutely and I repeat absolutely NO! Garlic and herb butter on that chicken whatever it was cooked/fried in wasn't drained off and then just put on top the the coleslaw hence why it was soggy did draw attention to this when I was there and the state of the napkin as I had to put the chicken on it to get all the oil off it all I could taste was oil wished it was garlic and herb that would have at least made it bearable. So no I won't be returning either as I live so far away. Just as well really.

nice pub after refit last year, its in a very good position to capture the traffic from the view and park, so pretty busy normally ... it has some old world charm and decoration .. The Staff are quite decent , and do try , with half decent service and manners , politeness .. nothing amazing but tick the boxes at doing a decent to good job ... however the kitchen service is too slow ... day 1 .. 20 minutes for a single hot chocolate , staff has to be asked again for it , then another 10 minutes before it arrived .. day 2 burger at lunch .. again 30 minutes and it had not arrived , staff had to be asked for it again , another 10-15 minutes before it arrived .. Simply poor management and kitchen organisation . if pubs are to survive they need to do a lot better ... Just because you are busy because of a your location doesn't give you a right to provide a crap service ... once the food arrived it was good .. so no complaints there ... People just need to be aware that the service is not there in this establishment .. If People are doing there bit by frequenting them . In return Pubs need to be provide a top draw product and service to justify peoples choices .. or they will die completely .. Pubs fate are in their own hands , either work hard to survive or don't and fail, no different from any other chain or business ... THIS IS 2 STARS AND NOT 1 , BECAUSE THE STAFF WERE POLITE, HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL ..

The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in the UK. We went on Saturday, March 29th, and faced long wait times for food. I ordered a bottled drink but was given a pint instead—when I pointed out the mistake, they just said it was already poured instead of bringing the bottle. On top of that, there was poor management regarding our booked table. Even my partner, who’s from London, said he’s never seen such bad service. Avoid this place!

Very cute pun, great Guinness. Staff is nice and food comes fairly quick. One star off for the fish and chips. Though there was a lot of fish compared to the batter (which is good!) it was not the best tasting. The peas, instead of being mushy, were watery, and not many fries and they seemed the frozen kind. Apart from that it’s a lovely atmosphere and I’d certainly return for a drink.

I had booked a table weeks ago for my friend’s birthday, but when we arrived at the restaurant, they had given our table to another couple (table for 2 people, I think 47, not a 6 people table like the lady says below). The waitress then tried to offer us a high table, even after we explained that my friend is pregnant. She then suggested a table next to the toilets, acting as if we should be grateful for it. This was incredibly rude and unprofessional. It’s the third time I’ve been here, and it will be the last. The staff was not only dismissive, but their behavior was also rude and discriminatory. I think when a establishment responds to a client the way you did, it reaffirms my review!

Very poor service and food was cold and not what we ordered for. No steps of service followed. Young waitress was really rude. When I received the order wrong for 2 consecutive times I asked for info and she came back to me saying:”what do you want me to do?” You can be new in the role but being rude is not justified at all! Staff must be trained before being thrown on the floor messing around. Few other customers in our section received wrong order and some left. Really disappointed!

Worst experience I had in a restaurant. We booked to celebrate a birthday. They seated us close to the toilets and when we asked whether we could move closer to the windows they said we’ll look into it but never bothered. There were plenty of tables available. Another table left complaining about the waiter which was another sign that things were not well. That same waiter got our order wrong 3 times and pretty much all the other tables too. Instead of apologising they had the attitude excusing his inaptitude by saying…”what do you want us to do about it”…needless to say we will never come back.

Booked a table for 2 a week in advance to eat here. We were not aware, that downstairs was self service, which is where they gave us a table. So when we arrived, people were sitting in our seat and we then had to wait for them to clear our table before waiting for ages to then find out it is self service. Staff interaction was poor, we received dirty cutlery which then when we told them, the same cutlery was brought back. Food itself was not good, fish was not good at all, soggy batter. poor service left a bad feel, especially after seeing a table next to us being served at their table whilst we were told this wasn’t how it worked. I don’t see the point in reserving for dining to then get placed to have self service. It should have been informed to us upstairs was table service only. Poor experience

The Roebuck, Richmond: A Masterclass in Indifference Ah, The Roebuck. Perched atop Richmond Hill with views as breathtaking as their service is baffling. If you’re after a Sunday roast that arrives at room temperature before your starter, a side of olives that takes longer to source than a wheel of baked camembert, and a staff so uninterested they’d struggle to notice a fire, then by all means, book a table. Let’s start with the drinks. Or rather, the game of hide-and-seek we had to play to get one. If you’re expecting someone to proactively take your order, dream on. You’ll need to flag them down as if summoning a cab in rush hour London. But once secured, the drinks were… well, present. That’s about all I can say. Now, the food. The roast arrived before our starter, at a temperature best described as "tepid at best, abandoned at worst." The olive starter? So elusive it was eventually cancelled, as the pub appeared to be experiencing a national shortage of, well, olives. Meanwhile, the table next to us fared no better—served long after we were, only to launch into a blistering tirade that we strongly related to. Their food was cold too, though they at least got the opportunity to return it. The waiter, who met our queries with a level of sass not often seen outside of a West End dressing room, seemed more interested in delivering sharp retorts than warm meals. When we pointed out that our mains had arrived before our starter, we were told we could simply have the olives after we’d eaten. Ah yes, the traditional post-roast olive course. The finer details? Lacking. No spoons for the vegetables, no applesauce for the pork (which, by the way, is a cardinal sin). Plates and glasses were left sitting for so long we considered giving them names. When clearing finally occurred, some plates were mysteriously ignored, as if part of a social experiment in selective amnesia. At no point were we asked if everything was okay. A clever tactic, really—if you never inquire, you never have to hear the answer. And despite the pub not being particularly busy, it appeared that the two lone staff members had long since given up on the concept of ‘service’. When we asked to remove the service charge. That, at last, caught their interest—prompting a scoff, some laughter upon us leaving, and the kind of customer service that suddenly sprang to life once their tip was under threat. All in all, The Roebuck offers a truly immersive experience—if you’ve ever wanted to feel invisible while eating a lukewarm meal with no condiments. Views? Stunning. Everything else? As absent as our olive starter. Would I return? Only to marvel at the sheer audacity of it all.

As a local, I truly love the Roebuck but I can’t help but notice a drop in service. The food is good and the view is amazing, but the wait times have become unbelievable. My partner’s brother was visiting and we were so excited to take him to the Roebuck, but that excitement faded quickly. Firstly, we booked a table upstairs, but ended up having a table downstairs close to the bar counter (which isn’t really what we wanted). Nonetheless, we ordered our drinks and food. Our nibbles came quickly but we had to ask not once, not twice, but thrice for our main courses. It seemed like the team had just completely forgotten to order it, or there was some major issue in the kitchen, as every time we asked there was a different response as to why the wait was so long. When the food did come, mine and my partner’s came, but not my partner’s brother’s. We had to ask again, and wait yet again for his food to arrive. From the moment of ordering to actually eating, we probably waited 80 minutes. Considering the food we ordered should be pretty quick to make (fish & chips, burger), we were extremely disappointed. It’s truly a shame as we would like to go back but we’ve had similar issues in recent weeks, even when the pub is not busy. :(

Hate leaving bad reviews but this experience was awful. Booked a Sunday Roast in the window snug two weeks in advance for 4 people at 7:30pm, pub was quiet when we walked in but stood at the bar acknowledged by anyone for 10 minutes despite four workers being behind the bar, one hiding behind the bar on her phone. Once prompted that we had a reservation someone had to go upstairs to “fetch a tablet” which took another 5 minutes. Despite booking the window snug we were given a different table because apparently they’re sometimes “randomly assigned”. Went to order and the worker saw us walking up and walked away. After waiting further the least enthusiastic worker I’ve ever seen said they had no roast pork and one roast beef left, they had also run out of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. You’d have thought they would mention this when sitting us down but no one actually took us to our table or came to take the order we went to the bar after waiting at the table. They went to double check this with the kitchen but were left waiting so long we walked out. Having worked in customer service for 10 years I’ve never experienced such awful and rude customer service it was the strangest experience. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone nor would I return.

I visited this pub with friends for non-alcoholic drinks, as we all weren’t drinking for personal reasons. It wasn’t busy so us having a drink for a few hours didn’t seem to be an obstruction to custom. Unfortunately, one of the staff members seemed displeased by our decision, and felt it was appropriate to make audible and negative comments about us to her colleagues. This made us feel unwelcome, and as a result, I won’t be returning. I’ve never written a negative review before, or even used trip advisor, but as someone who works in hospitality I have never had such a shocking experience with a bartender.

Very disappointing roast - not sure if they’ve got a new chef or something, but their Sunday roast delivered a few tiny overcooked scraps of beef, and their cauliflower cheese had basically no cheese, cauliflower that was still raw in the middle, all day sadly in way too much mustard. A side order of bread comes with 3 thin cut small triangles of mediocre bread. Have been regularly before and really enjoyed it, but they need to sort out their kitchen - it seems like someone is determined to cut costs any way they can at the moment. Wouldn’t go back if it carries on like this.

I love this pub. It feels like how a pub should feel, inviting and homey. The manager is a proper publican. She directs her customers with cheer and confidence. She doesn't drop the ball. It's fun to watch her do her thing. They do an excellent veggie Sunday roast. Update!*** What happened? Completely different menu. Pub grub, gone. It's upmarket and much pricier, portions smaller. Not nearly as delicious. Takes absolutely ages to get your drinks. Ages for the food. Feels like they overbook for profit and can't actually match that sort of output with quality food and service. Our neighbors waited a long time and actually left. At one point we were actually so thirsty for water. Took about 30 minutes to get water on the table. May those wonderful nachos rest in peace. Bummed. This place felt so homey and now it feels like a detached gastro pub. There aren't enough proper pubs anymore. This is a drastic change from Marie's running of the pub. A veggie Wellington was 12 pounds at one point. Understand that prices go up. But 20? Nearly the same as the meat. And then a tiny side of veg.

Very nice service and cosy pub with outstanding view, however the food was a let down. For example, the cheese toastie is literally a béchamel sandwich and the confit duck leg not confit at all and felt industrial.

What a brilliant pub, it has everything you want. Cozy bits with an open fire, great dining room upstairs overlooking the river and a brilliant food and drink offering. Combine that with the lovely friendly staff and it’s a winner. Dec and Justina were the team in today and they could not have been more hospitable!

Came here on a Saturday at 5pm. Asked the bar staff where I would speak to someone for a booking; the barman v rudely pointed and said ‘my colleague’. We then went upstairs and sat down to a very Smokey room. Ordered 3 soft drinks which took 25 minutes to arrive. Our food took an hour. We then ordered another Diet Coke, which took 2 reminders and 30 minutes to come. At no point did anyone acknowledge the horrendous service or apologise. Let down as the interior is really nice and food was ok! Only saving grace is that they didn’t add service to the bill, and it wasn’t an option on the card machine.

Really love this place. A classic pub with good food. Plenty of vegan and veggie options. Service is solid. Plus, the view is wonderful.

I went to the Roebuck for lunch with a friend on Sunday— I ordered the beef and raclette pie and it was honestly all I had hoped for and more— totally stunning! Such a warm and welcoming pub and everyone was so helpful, with special thanks to Justina. Our waiters were also super, his name was Antoine I believe, and I’m kicking myself I can’t remember the young lady’s name (she had blonde hair pulled back). Thanks so much again and I’ll look forward to the next time ♥️

An amazingly located pub with views over London, but sadly not the food to match. We honestly had the worst roast I’ve ever had here unfortunately. As many other reviews have said, the roast is just not good - the beef was a tiny portion and the chicken my wife had was the most overcooked piece of meat I’ve ever seen. The vegetables on the other hand were barely cooked, and everything was lukewarm. I’m surprised they haven’t done anything about it since all the reviews seem to say the same thing. Wish I’d checked them earlier. The service was fantastic and the waitress couldn’t do enough for us. I was so embarrassed to tell her that actually the food wasn’t very nice when she asked, but I had to be honest. I like to support venues and feel bad writing a negative review but equally if you’re going to charge someone £25 for a roast they could have made better at home, I’d like to warn people off. The least you can do is serve a decent portion and make it warm. Keep your hard earned money and spend it somewhere else.

I wouldn’t go anywhere else in Richmond! You have the most picturesque view right at the doorstep, lovely staff and great English pub food! Tony is a legend and someone you want serving your table! Affordable and middle of the price range. Can’t go wrong!!! Cocktails, old and new, extensive offerings on tap and a lovely selection of wine.

A reasonably priced cosy local and nearest pub to the station. Good food, good drinks. Doesn’t show football but nice outside space at the front

It was such a delight to experience the festive afternoon tea here at The Petersham. The staff and service were excellent and were attentive, the atmosphere was great, I especially loved the magical Snow effect. It was nice to eat delicious food with a lovely view. I highly recommend!
