Utterly marvellous. The very charming and helpful manager at the Barmy Arms recommended we try the Roebuck for Sunday lunch while we were staying at the Richmond Hill Hotel. Despite it being incredibly busy the manager managed to get us a table upstairs with the most magnificent views of the Thames, which again made a very special memory. I had the beef and my mother the belly of pork, both of which were excellent. Another example on excellent service, atmosphere and quality of food.

Reviewing before even experiencing the place says a lot! I called on Saturday to book for a big group of us on the 1st of December. She said it’s very busy and to email a direct email address and they would get back to me on Monday, which failed to deliver (it’s correct, I checked). I’ve done two online enquiries and of course no one has replied. Maybe dodging a bullet here.

Sadly not a great first experience. Came across this place via instagram and immediately booked for a Sunday anniversary lunch after a walk in Richmond Park. Beautiful pub and lively vibe but thats where it stops. We were greeted and escorted to our table and provided a 'menu' 25 minutes later we were eventually attended to by an apologetic young lady who came with a tablet to take our order. Tablet didn't work so she had to return with a pen and pad, few mins later she returned to inform us one of the dishes was not available, we requested the menu again, only to find the original menu we were given was the wrong one for the Sunday, not happy but great further options to consider right?. Another 20 minutes later a different young lady returned to inform us there was no longer any bread/butter available, again another wait and disappointment. so over 45 minutes in, sitting with nothing we pondered should we stay/go and asked how long it would be for the main meals?. Too hungry to leave, we decided to stay, wait for meal and our chosen desserts. 5 mins later roast dish arrived and a few minutes after the second dish. The turkey roast was way beyond my expectations, additional yorkshire pudding was dried out and reheated, parsnips dried out and chewy, potatoes were boiled rather than duck fat roasted on both plates. Not a great sign, dish tasted as though it had been microwaved. Very dissappointed so we decided to forgo dessert, pay and leave. On payment another (10 minute wait), we asked if they were busy and understaffed, a yes to both. My question is if you are busy or understaffed, why not inform patrons there may be a delay in service as soon as they sit down to they can have the option to stay or go? When we paid we were told the service charge would be removed, very kind gesture but I wonder how many would have put up with that level of service and paid? By far the worst pub roast I have had, it was a 5pm meal so can only assume mass cooked and those that arrived for earlier dinner had it much better than the later diners. Its true first impressions counts so sorry we won't be visiting again.

Visited for Sunday roast today. Nice - albeit very overstretched - staff could do little to make up for the enormous queues and distinctively average food. When we made our way to the front of an extraordinarily long queue (approx 15-minute wait time), we ordered roast turkey, roast beef, extra gravy, cauliflower cheese, a Guinness and a Diet Coke. The turkey was succulent but in short supply; the beef was Instagram-friendly, succulent and equally small. The vegetables on either plate had clearly been under heat-lamps for too long. The tiny ramekin of gravy that came with the plates was lukewarm at best. The extra gravy did not come first time round - nor did it come when we asked our server again. The cauliflower cheese was very much what it said on the tin insofar as as the sauce was cheesy and it definitely contained cauliflower but disappointed as well. The less said about the al dente "roast potatoes" the better... they seemed like microwaved new potatoes that had been briefly deep-fried. The Guinness and Diet Coke were spot on tbf. The staff were as efficient as they could be and as courteous as you could wish for but this will go down as a disappointing pub trip - it's never great leaving a pub on a Sunday wishing you hadn't bothered.

Very slow service. Burger was burnt to smithereens and like a hockey puck. TikTok / Social Media sold a dream that turned out to be a nightmare. Saving grace was the staff being very apologetic for the food and delays; with a free drink and full refund being offered for the misfortune of the burger. Wouldn’t recommend, hope the place has a drastic turn around soon as in such a great location, but food & service need serious work.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting The Roebuck recently, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts on what’s going on at this lovely pub. It's clear to me that the new manager and the entire staff are putting in a tremendous amount of effort to make this place shine. They’re friendly, welcoming, and truly care about providing a great experience for their customers. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s a wave of unjust negativity and scrutiny aimed at them, likely stemming from the departure of the previous management. What’s truly frustrating is that some of the reviews being left don’t reflect the reality of the pub or the hard work the team is doing. The staff are doing their absolute best, and it’s not fair to see them torn down by fake or misleading reviews. It’s clear they’re trying to turn things around, and every time I’ve visited, I’ve been met with great service, tasty food, and a warm atmosphere. The previous management may have left, but that doesn’t mean the current team deserves the unfair criticism they’re receiving. The Roebuck deserves to be recognized for the amazing job the new manager and staff are doing, not for the negativity that’s been unfairly directed at them. Fake reviews should really be taken down, as they do not reflect the true spirit of this pub. If you’re looking for a great local spot with a team that’s working hard to create a positive, welcoming environment, don’t let the fake reviews fool you—head down to The Roebuck and see for yourself. They truly deserve your support

What has happened to this pub?!? I booked a table downstairs, specified we needed the dog friendly area (yes we had a dog with us!) only to be told we were being seated upstairs (dogs not allowed!) Had to complain to get the table in the area we actually booked. It used to be such a fantastic place to go for a drink and food but it’s gone downhill big time and seems completely disorganised. 45 minute wait for a burger! Food is now average at best; one frazzled person behind the bar with people queuing out the door just to order drinks; nobody at the till where you normally order & pay for food; wine on the drinks menu not available; and the person who appeared to be the manager couldn’t crack a smile and was rude. The place is cramped, the friendly atmosphere has gone and while it is clear some of the staff are trying their best, it is not somewhere I will be returning to or recommending.

Really poor from start to finish. Weren't given any menus. Waited almost an hour for one course, even though it was quiet and there were several empty tables. When the food finally arrived it was so disappointing. Very small portions and luke warm. The mussels were tiny and the sauce was watery. We had one main course each and one drink and the price was £65. Terrible value for what you get. Nice spot for a drink but don't waste your money on food. There are much better places in Richmond that do better food.

Myself and my boyfriend’s family went for lunch here yesterday and I’m still baffled at our experience. We arrived for our booking at 3 30 and the pub seemed busy but we were seated upstairs which was around 50 percent full and relatively quiet. We sat down and had to wait 20 mins for menus and to be taken out drink orders. We ordered wine and it arrived without wine glasses and had to ask for them which took another 15 minutes to arrive. We then placed an order for food which we waited 1 and a half hours for???? No one came to check on us or apologise for our long wait time and we weren’t made aware of the wait. We had to chase down our order which they had seem to forgotten about. We then asked to speak to a manager and the lady came over, didn’t apologise and even seemed confused as why we were annoyed. Other costumers also seemed be be frustrated by the long wait and lack of attentiveness from the staff. We finally got our food at 5 30 after being sat at 3 30. It was such a shame as the pub and view is beautiful and the food was actually decent. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and his family had come to visit us in London. It was honestly the worst service I’ve ever had and such a strange experience.

The Roebuck has that classic pub charm with a warm, welcoming vibe that’s hard to beat. It can get really busy, but the team here handles the rush with ease, keeping things moving smoothly without missing a beat. Even when it’s packed, the staff stays friendly and attentive, making sure everyone feels looked after. For anyone visiting, a little extra patience goes a long way—the staff is doing a fantastic job, and the new management’s efforts are already making a positive impact. Hats off to the team for making The Roebuck feel like such a local favorite, no matter how busy it gets. Cheers!

I'm a local and have always loved this authentic, traditional pub with it's divine view, real fire and delish real ales, for which it shouldn't really drop below a 4. It remains a gem. I think it's become a victim of its own success and may struggle to recruit staff. It was v busy and crowded for a cloudy Friday afternoon. This is good it's doing well. What disappointed today ... The cheese, sausage roll, bread, pickles in our sharing platter were good and tasty. But no heritage tomato salad included in it, as described on the menu, to balance the carb and protein. A passing waitress not responsive when we fed back about this. And quite scant portions for something meant to be shared, especially as £20. Tho admittedly, overpriced food is the norm in Richmond area. Felt a little cheated

Just in reply to the manager asking us to be “honest” and “fair” in reply to my review… I like your use of detail “enjoyed playing cards” and “finished your meals” but you fail to recognise or accept the issues we faced at your pub. We came at 16:30. Had travelled 1 hour. Sorry that we finished the sub-par food? Which we did pay for half of? Considering the portion sizes 10 quid is all they should be worth anyways. The quality and size at Toby Carvery is even superior. It is clear that your apologies and requests for clarity are insincere to say the least…because you have made no improvements whatsoever. I don’t appreciate your sarcastic and passive aggressive tone. It is clear that it is the management where all the issues come from. I wish your employees the best of luck putting up with you. It was quite crowded so we got placed on the second floor, which unfortunately also meant our choice of beers was limited to 3. Worst roast in Richmond! We had a great roast here when it re-opened so was looking forward to having it again but to say this time was a huge disappointment is an understatement. We arrived late in the afternoon (4.45) so were really pleased that the landlord found us a table. He warned us that the pork had run out as well as the yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese but we wanted beef and chicken anyway. We came to order but was then told the chicken had run out too. My girlfriend went for the veggie roast but really wanted the chicken so we could also give our dog some tit-bits. The roasts arrived and mine was a few slices of beef over some potatoes covered in gravy and a big yorkshire pudding . The 'nut roast' wellington was undercooked with soggy pastry . It was also served with a few crusty potatoes covered in gravy and a big yorkshire and water-cress?! We called the server over and asked where the vegetables were and was told that the vegetables were only available on request! And that we were lucky as I wasn't supposed to get a yorkshire pudding! No vegetables with a roast dinner? I guess we caught the end of the roasts and they had run out of everything but if so they should just stop serving them. The queue at the bar was so long I couldn't bother to wait to complain to the manager so we ate the 'roast' and left. I would have given 1 star out of 5 but gave an extra point as the manager/landlord was so nice. If you want a decent roast in Richmond I recommend going anywhere other than the Roebuck - I can guarantee you be given some vegetables!

Not recommending this place. VERY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WE HAD TODAY. We politely asked if we can sit upstairs and the staff said “NO” in a dismissive manner. We are only 3 in the pub. 2 customers already eating so basically we are the ones with the pending order. 1243H we paid 1340H food is still not being served. I followed up 1330H and said food is coming 1341H still no food in sight to the point we asked for refund . Staff blaming the “delivery” coz ingredients are there, then they shouldve informed us ahead of time coz the delivery came in 10-15 mins after we order. Unprofessional manner and unapologetic staff even laughing infront of you while the refund is ongoing. We just wasted one hour. Piece of advice, just close the restaurant if you dont want to serve people. Pork crackling was the worst- extremely salty you might want to check your sodium levels after eating this

Visited for a special goodbye for my sister who is moving to Australia for 2 years. I had the Sunday roast. I can honestly say it was the most disappointing I have ever had in London. There was barely any meat, and what there was was tough as an old boot. The vegetables were raw. Not al dente… raw. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy, the duck fat potatoes were greasy and the red cabbage was over spiced. The gravy was ok, but sadly not a redeeming factor. All in all a really appealing effort to say the least. On top of this I ended up having to go to the kitchen to get my own vegetables after a ten minute wait. The plate comes out in two parts with the waitress forgetting twice to bring them despite being asked. Everything was cold and inedible anyway at this point. I tried using a steak knife (which again I had to get up and go to the kitchen for). I tried but it was too bad so I ultimately gave up and left the food. Extremely disappointing. I managed to get a refund for the £22 roast but the meal as a whole was ruined and it was a special occasion for us as we don’t see each other often. Such a shame as it’s a very nice venue, but go for the drinks and not the Sunday roast. Coupled with non existent service, it really was a rubbish experience.

The staff give you plastic cups so you can go over to the bench’s and look at the view across the road🍺🌳 The food was ok… wouldn’t queue for a seat again as I had the butternut squash soup which has a side of sourdough… but it was rock hard. Can barely bite into it. Got an extra side of sourdough with hopes maybe it was just that one. Sadly they were all hard, and had a tiny TINY little out of butter… not enough for how many slices we had. 🚻 Has toilets and Pets aloud

We used to come here often but the quality really deteriorated recently, so don’t plan to come back. Not sure if they changed ownership or it’s just becoming TikTok famous. Portions have decreased by roughly 50%, they are understaffed upstairs leading to personnel turnover and really low service quality despite good intentions of the staff. They also moved to a weird habit of getting card details and opening up tabs ahead of the order in the restaurant. After they forced us to pay, they then didn’t bring some of the things we ordered, and we had to deal with getting a refund.

We can only guess that someone - quite possibly the head chef - failed to show up for work on Friday Sept 20th. At face value this place looks lovely; great location, appealing menu and attractive decor. Alas our experience was one of very slow service and extremely bland, under-parr food. In fact I'm somewhat mystified as to how it's possible to make duck confit so unseasoned and tasteless. My partner's salad was equally lacking in flavour. When I visit Richmond, I often walk up to Richmond Hill and enjoy the view across the terrace and the river below. Often, I end my trip at The Roebuck, it's a lovely pub in a quiet residential area. This time I was pleasantly surprised by the smell of an open fire and stunning refurbishment making the pub feel cosy and warm. I stopped for a drink and a snack (a sausage roll). It does get busy and I visited at lunchtime, there could be a slight wait to order. Otherwise, the team are excellent and offer a warm welcome, Declan was brilliant and I had a slight issue with a first pour 0% lager which was swapped for another very quickly. If you are in this part of Richmond do visit, you won't be disappointed. 😊

Had an amazing experience here. I tried the soup, and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. There’s also an excellent variety of wines to choose from, making it the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy a great meal paired with the right drink. Highly recommend!"

The food is sensational, the atmosphere is cosy, however the bar staff are absolutely useless. Been here multiple times now, they always seem flustered when compared to other busy pubs. And when presented with a food allergy, it’s a good 25 mins wait looking through a food bible…

The Roebuck is an institution... the new restaurant was a let down. Understaffed, with a long wait for very average food. The building itself is impressive but eating there leaves a lot to be desired. Will be sticking to drinks next time

The Roebuck pub is a welcoming local with a classic British charm. The cosy interior, complete with traditional wooden beams and a roaring fireplace, makes it an inviting spot for any occasion. The menu offers a solid selection of hearty pub fare, with favourites like fish and chips and Sunday roasts done particularly well. They also have a good range of ales and ciders on tap, perfect for enjoying with friends. The staff are friendly and attentive, adding to the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Whether you're after a casual meal or just a pint in a comfortable setting, The Roebuck is a great choice.

The Roebuck is set on Richmond Hill and commands a famous view of the River Thames from just outside the door. It's a Greene King pub featuring their ales plus one or two guests. There is some exposed brickwork and some enclosed areas within the pub but overall the place has the feel of a contemporary dining venue. I'm sure you can go there just for a drink but most people seem to be there for the excellent quality food; it's definitely not the sort of place to go for a game of darts or dominoes. The menu is appealing, with interesting choices such as Slow Cooked Confit Duck Leg or Herb Crumbed Halibut Fillet. The food is well prepared and reasonably priced, given the quality. Service is reasonable, but a smile from staff would not go a miss.

Very welcoming pub with charming interiors. The meals (Atlantic Cod and the burger) were very tasty and left us feeling full for a long time. You can have your drinks filled into cups and sit on benches in front of the pub and watch the Thames. Great location.

Handsdown the best tasting coffee in town. Not called coffeeology anymore as it has been bought by ECC.

We were a very large work Christmas party but I was very impressed with the quality of food and such great attentive service considering the large party.

Very underwhelming afternoon tea experience. Sandwiches, scones and sweets were all very mediocre at best and some were not edible. Would not recommend, especially for the price.

A reasonably priced cosy local and nearest pub to the station. Good food, good drinks. Doesn’t show football but nice outside space at the front
