Booked the camp site no problem until we arrived to find the pub shut and has been for some time, looked on there web site still saying pub open until 11pm. The Rodney Stoke Inn is closed and the camp site people need to let people know when they book.

We visited the pub as we were staying in the area. When we arrived it was very quiet - we recommend some ambient music and more inviting interiors to feel more welcome. Food was fine, we would have preferred slightly larger portion sizes. I believe it is under new management, and the staff were very pleasant so I m sure they will make it a lovely country pub.

Got to say we had a meal in this pub on Friday night , dog friendly food was fantastic , sat talking to a local couple and everyone made us feel welcome. The staff informed us of entertainment and free buffet for New Year’s Eve all welcome, unfortunately we didn’t make New Year’s Eve but had booked Sunday lunch for today 1/1/23 and I have to say what an amazing Sunday lunch food was fantastic. I would most definitely recommend this pub

So I booked a table for 4 on 4 September for a carvery on 11 September - booking taken and they looked forward to seeing us on 11 September - Arrived at pub for our 12:30 booking only to find the pub locked up! Tried phoning twice and no answer - advised by another pub that the place had been closed for the past month! So why take a table booking! Very angry and had to find alternative place to eat at last minute - not good - Why did the owners (Butcombe Brewery) not notify us! Not the first time I’ve heard bad things about Butcome Brewery premises - never again you’ve lost this customer Butcome Brewery

Staying in the area for a weekend, so visited for lunch as a family. Inside is very basic and could really fo with a make-over, some comfort and decor. The outside seating area could be really pleasant with a bit of tidying up/gardening. The menu was very sparse. However the home made burgers were a good choice, served with real chips. There was no finesse to the presentation of platters. The ploughmans only came with half a slice of ham. The apple crumble was nice but needed more custard and the only ice cream flavour was vanilla- a bit boring! It served to feed us but was not as we had hoped for from past reviews. It has been closed for a month so perhaps is under new management or something but it would need a lot doing to it before we returned to try again.

Almost 3pm on the pub opening day (kitchen wasn't really open) 6 hungry people walked in and asked if there was food available. There wasn't, but they promptly offered to do jacket potatoes or burgers if that would help. It did... the burger was generously filled with bacon, pickles and salad stuff, the jacket potatoes can with a generous amount of cheese, lots of fresh salad and some lovely homemade coleslaw., all followed with fresh strawberries and clotted cream. The pub could probably do with a bit of a makeover, but the staff were welcoming and friendly, and for unexpected diners they did us proud. If this is the promise of things to come for the new owners, I hope they do well.

Get in early I suppose is the best advice I can give for the Sunday Roast. We went in at 1pm and even though booked, had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated. When we went for food, we had a choice of very rare Beef and Ham that also looked rare. There was a very sdmall amount of turkey or whatever left. Plenty of veg BUT IT WAS ALL COLD, even the plate was cold. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

We had the best time celebrating our parents Ruby anniversary. The landlady could not of been more accommodating. Giving them a complimentary drink and when we arrived, chocs and a card. Happy to travel this far for the food and service. Thank you everyone!

We are always looking for pubs which are close to campsites for a nice meal out whilst away in our van and you can't get much closer than here!We visited during their Harry Potter themed week and wished we had been seated down in the main room as it looked wonderful and was so well done! So much effort put in and decorated perfectly. I will definitely follow their facebook page and make a note of other themed weeks as it was such a lovely idea. The welcome was warm as we entered and we were quickly seated in the snug area. Very covid safe with all staff wearing their masks/PPE and our orders were quickly taken and soon enjoying our drinks. We both chose burgers and they were delicious and very generous with their portions. I still had food envy looking at other meals as some pf the plates looked sublime and it was quickly decided we will return to sample more. Luckily we left enough room for desserts and with the difficulty of not being able to have one of each on the menu, we decided on the honeycomb and an amazing biscoff waffle each! We did share half each and wish we had room for half more!It really is a wonderful pub with a brilliant atmosphere. We are a little too far away to make it our regular after work break away but will definitely be returning and really can't wait!

This pub is very accessible and is located on the main road from Wells to Cheddar - ample parking. Very friendly staff - decent pub food and an awareness re Covid 19 - very safe and professional. I noticed that they had a small campsite near to the car park - must be a hell of a pub for campers i.e great beer and higher than average pub grub; juicy steaks and very good burgers, fish and chips etc. Homemade quality and decent portions. The beer garden is also a decent size and away from the road - a little paradise. Why bother to go to a cramped pub in Cheddar when you can go here?

The food was excellent we were able to go up in our group to pick our food as usual for a cavery but instead of using spoons etc that other people have used the really nice staff manning the carvery put the food on your plate and give it to you after. Beef was in our opinion restaurant quality. The deserts we saw looked fabulous but sadly we were all to full. After eating we sat in the beer garden to finish our drinks, both red and white wine good. There is a great playground for children of all ages we didn’t have children with us this time but would definitely take children next time. We traveled from Bristol and it was well worth the drive. I had the ribs (juicy, tender, blimmin tasty) and my boyfriend had the cheddar gorge burger which was pretty impressive, and not only did it look good it tasted AMAZING. The burgers were so full of flavour. Highly recommend this place if anyone is in the area! Make sure you pre-book because it can get fully booked quickly - especially with covid restrictions. And also the the covid rules are well kept and met in this pub! Thank you so much!

We went to this beautiful Inn for lunch. Family members were vegan and dairy intolerant Nothing was too much trouble. The vegan choice was substantial, not just a gesture on the menu. They even got choices of soy or almond milk in coffees and non dairy ice cream for kids.As for me...I had a wonderfully cooked rump steak. This was a positively awesome eating experience.Well done.

The best Sunday dinner I have eaten, great staff, well presented and professional and polite. Great campsite at the venue, with everything in place so you can relax.

My wife and I visited the Rodney Stoke Inn on Wednesday 12th August . WE had the steaks which were beautifully cooked and presented. It was like finding a Culinary Oasis of delight in a desert of ordinary restaurant's and Inns. Our compliments to the Chef, the kitchen and the waiting staff. It goes without saying that we will definitely visit again. Thank You

We’ve visited the Rodney Stoke Inn many times in the past few months. We experienced efficient service and delicious homemade food. We sat in the beautiful garden and were looked after well by the friendly staff. We felt very safe with the precautions implemented ie one way systems and table service. Would highly recommend this lovely country pub.

Went in for Sunday Roast. Although it was a carvery as it was during COVID 19 it was all platted up in front of us instead of helping ourselves but you could still ask for more to be put on your plate. Lovely food and great staff.

My wife and I were camping for the weekend at the campsite next door. We visited the pub at lunchtime for a drink and enquired regarding takeout at dinner. We were advised to call in at approximately 7pm and we could order and a member of staff would telephone us to let us know when ready for collection. I returned at 7.05 pm to be greeted by a hostile individual asking if I had booked a table as they were very busy. I advised that I was ordering a takeout as camping at the adjoining campsite. The individual I spoke with, presumably the manager, was very unfriendly and bordering on aggressive. Was told that they were very busy. The campsite is very professionally managed and the site manager is very friendly, the pub however, was such a contrast. Disappointed was an understatement.

Arrived here on thursday this is our 2nd visit. We were staying in the campsite at the back of the pub. The pub use to own the campsite but we were told they are now two separate businesses but still just as lovely. The pub has covid restrictions in place and we felt very safe all staff were in mask and all tables were cleaned after every use. The food was delicious. The staff could not do enough for us. Will definitely be back.

Fantastic setting and nice outdoor location, quality beer but very disappoint in meal due to the cost at £14 for scampi & chips which is normal but for 6 ‘small‘ pieces of scampi was not great as it’s a basic cheap pub meal and not fine dining experience.

Holidayed in area and had to book a table due to Covid restrictions which also meant hours for food were reduced but had a very pleasant meal. Felt very safe as lots of measures in place. We ate inside but you exit through garden which was really lovely. Would be perfect on a summers evening.

I’ve been a few times now, but we were camping this time, behind the pub and went in for evening meal. First pub since the reopenings, all precautions in place and easy to follow one-way system. Staff were cheerful and helpful and the food (10oz rump steak) was to die for. Cooked perfectly and so tender I could have cut it with a spoon! The ‘’Rodney Mess’ was very naughty but well worth the calories!Looking forward to returning asap! Well done Shaun and Nicki ❤️

Our first pub dining experience since lockdown, the food was great, and we felt confident that all precautions were being taken. Looks like a lovely garden so fingers crossed for some good weather, but indoors tables well spaced and a clear one way system in operation. Just one suggestion - put the menu online. Hope all goes well for the pub in these strange times.

We decided after lockdown to have a short break in Somerset and fell upon this beautiful pub. After not being able to go into a pub for several months we were a little bit nervous to say the least. The staff were all in ppe and very friendly . We were taken up to the carvery where it had a see through cover over it and the chef plated it for us as much as we wanted. Food was really good. Would highly recommend we both felt very safe. Will definately return .

We’ve visited the Rodney Stoke Inn a few times over the years and have generally been pleased.Having heard that it had new owners or managers a little while ago we took the opportunity to call in when we were passing by for lunch. On arrival, one lady saw us, said nothing, then disappeared. The girl behind the bar appeared to be fairly busy as she whisked past us a number of times serving food but it must have been the fifth or sixth time before she said ‘I’ll be with you in a minute’.Eventually we ordered drinks and asked about food and were pointed to menus but when another couple came in they were told that food would take about an hour so we finished our drinks and left. All in all we were very disappointed and probably won’t return. We then went on to the New Inn at Cross where we were extremely well treated and served.

Was really excited to try out this restaurant. Had read the media coverage and have tremendous respect for the owners. It was busy, nice weather had brought the crowds out to the outside dining area. It seems impossible to get good service these days, when you do it is rare. Has eveyone good left the industry post covid... There were plenty of staff on the floor, but systems and training were clearly lacking, and the basic good standards sadly lacking. As soon as we walked in lack of a clear greeting was a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting far too long for our mains to arrive. Other tables also complaining and warning us about the lack of service. The place itself is beautifully & tastefully done. The menu reads incredibly well. The food did not disappoint. I sat eating the Fish Soup, trying to recall a better soup that I had ever eaten. This, I have to say was the best, absolutely incredible. The rest of the dishes were well cooked, and good, but nothing knock out. Rarely give reviews, but the lack of service was a big issue. One guy seemed to be more senior, but he was way out of his depth. Not even a goodbye as we left despite making eye contact with the Manager and floor staff! Would not recommend until the service is sorted out.

Lovely breakfast options, great tea and coffee, but all spoilt by the most miserable, unfriendly staff member serving, I've ever had the misfortune to be served by. It wasn't just us either, she was like it with everyone. It made us laugh to read the poster in store (shown). the secret is apparently " real smiles..... friendly banter..... " Not on a Monday morning apparently. I know it's probably a thankless task, I get that, but isn't customer service and a smile part of that job? We went into Clarks village and every other shop worker, bar none, gave us a friendly greeting and a smile. I hope she's OK, I recommend meditating first thing to help with stress. Update: I'm assuming that your response to my review is sarcasm, otherwise you really are clueless and your claims to value customer service are simply talk.
