So we moved to Paxcroft Mead about a year and a half ago, couldnt believe how lucky we were, Robinsons Traditional served great fish & Chips, we went there pretty much every week. Sadly over the last 6 or 7 months, the quality of the food has deteriorated. The fish is now either over cooked or not fresh any more, instead of nice flakes, it just crumbles and is tasteless. The chips never taste fresh any more, they are not crispy, they are soggy with hard bits on the outside, just like you would expect chips that are 2 days old that have been kept warm would taste like. The last 4 or 5 times have been very disappointing and quite frankly a waste of money. Gave them their last chance tonight 24/08/24, sadly no better so will now look for an alternative fish & chip shop and will not return to Robinsons Traditional.

I must say every take away I've ordered has been superb. Service is great. always early or on time, never late and food is always hot! Staff are friendly and polite.

Heard about this place from a friend who knows I'm gluten free. I saw they do gf on Mondays and Tuesdays, tried it out and I was impressed. Really good choice of food for a celiac, I'm also vegan and they had a few options. I got onions rings, pea fritters, battered mushrooms and fries. Really nice food. Will definitely be back for more!!

Chicken burger was nice but mainly low quality food. Re heated greasy

Food cooked fresh so was nice and hot. Portion sizes are dreadful. £7.90 for effectively a kids sized meal in any other fish and chip shop.

I like the friendly staff and the fast service. The fish and chips live up to expectations nearly every time. It's a reasonable price for a good meal.

In my view the best fish and chips in Trowbridge.

I dont know why but the Jolly friar next to the mini tesco suddenly became bad. So I had to find a new chippy and I really enjoyed Robinsons Traditional. The chips and chicken nuggets were spot on. The only thing I have to complain about is packaging because the chips are so hot the bag gets wet which makes soggy chips. Nonetheless I still ate them but it would be the best chippy if they fixed that.

Just been in here and the food was not cooked properly, chips were Luke warm and batter on sausages was soggy. Won't be going back, go to the jolly friar instead

Service was good, staff friendly but food was appalling. Dripping in grease, chips had lots of hard black spots, batter well overdone and a horrible texture. First try and won't be back!

Not only was the food fantastic, they offer a gluten and dairy free option!!!!! This is the first time I have been able to have food from the chippy for years. My grandson, also coeliac and DF, has never had chippy food until tonight. This may be small to some, but this is massive to us. To top it off the staff were so lovely. This is now our monthly take out treat...thank you Robinson's x

We used to order from this place a couple times a month. The food and service used to be excellent. However, the service has got sloppy, the food isn’t half as good as it was and we won’t be ordering from here again. These days, it seems the owner is more concerned with flirting with the young giggly girls he employs instead of running a decent business.

Absolutely best fish and chips I've ever had.

Called in for fish & chips on the offchance. An e-scooter was propped against the counter, it's youthful rider lounging there also. The girls behind the counter were making eyes at the youth and engaging in giggly small talk; us customers being perfunctorily dealt with. Oh! the food; yes. It took quite a long time to arrive and the 'large' fish was both considerably smaller and more expensive than that from a shop on the other side of town. The chips were soggy, too.

Battered halloumi was delicious. Huge portion of chips

Ordered off the breakfast menu as a treat and the food was fantastic. Fast delivery, well cooked and tasted superb. Just what we needed for a Saturday morning! If you're looking for a breakfast treat, I would recommend it. :)

Sad. Uninspiring takeaway. 2 fish and chips ok but pie, chips and mushy peas not good. The peas were hard, not smooth and juicy. Sorry won’t be back for more.

1st time back here for some time. Was put off for a while after having an order that was very poor value for money, both in quantity and quality. It was Saturday night and we expected service to slow. It wasn't horrendous, although our friends ordered before us and didn't get their food for 10 minutes after we got ours. Portion size was generous. Both my cod and chips were, however, very greasy. Taste wise I have had worse, but everyone needsd a lot of hand rowel after to mop mop the grease from their hands and elsewhere. Not as good as Frydays, but at a push they are OK.

I don’t normally do a review but I feel it’s only right to do so on this occasion. My normal fish & chip shop do not deliver and the weather conditions were awful so I phoned Robinsons, I was quoted a 18:30 slot but it did not arrive until 19:00. I was told they were very busy and I replied that’s okay but the food must not be cold. The manager said not to worry, the delivery soon arrived and was not only warm (hot) but was amazingly cooked and of very good quality , thank you guy’s I will be ordering again soon.

So this used to be a nice place large portions priced about average and now over priced but they have also shrunk the portions so not even worth going also the food is always cold when deliverd or if you go in the shop its like 25 mins waiting time I will not be using again.

The food was lovely when it eventually came. We have ordered from here many times and have never had a bad meal. However, 2 hours after the order was placed we were assured the delivery would be on the way soon, and we'd be compensated for the wait with some *extra bits* thrown in with the meal. Well, those extra bits turned out to be a bottle of sprite, 2 gurkins and 2 hard boiled eggs. Quite dissapointing and honestly not sure why the resturant bothered!? Perhaps if you really were as busy as you said you were, you shouldn't have accepted the order in the first place? Or at least ring us to let us know of the delays so we could change our plans before it got too late. Such a shame, next time we won't be relying on delivery!

This place is not great, fish is never ever crispy! Given this place so many tried hoping we have had off food but it is rubbish! Far better off driving the 10 minutes to Oceans in Melksham which is far superior food and staff!! Cannot fault them

Fish was ok, but slightly over cooked for my taste, chips were ok - but it was the waiting time that put me off. 25 minutes for cod and chips. They do the food delivery thing and anyone going in seems to have to wait for the lazy people who can’t be bothered to go and collect their food, to be served first, Fish was ok, bit over cooked in my opinion, chips were ok, but nothing special - if they are going to prioritise deliveries over walk ins, at least have the decency to say that the food will be half an hour. Definitely won’t go there again, which is a shame because my first visit was really good. This is a repetitive thing here. I kept going back to see of my first impression could he be repeated, but apparently it can’t. The food just isn’t worth the wait. £9 for a small (overcooked) cod and small chips. No thanks.

I had a gourmet burger with mature cheese and red onion. I reckon it was restaurant quality. It was first class, I've been back again for another one since my first visit. Very good. Thank you.

After a busy day we decided on a fish and chip takeaway and made the mistake of deciding to get it from Robinsons. We ordered a cod and chips and a scampi and chips. The order came to £18 which is a big bill for what we had. The cod was greasy and the scampi was actually chicken nuggets. Not good when I'm a vegetarian so just had the chips and threw away the chicken nuggets. This made the meal even worse value for money. The two girls serving just did not have a clue and were constantly asking customers what they were waiting for and then they got our order wrong. The food was overpriced, if you charge a premium price then we expect a premium product. Don't waste your money there are plenty of other fish and chip take outs in Trowbridge. We won't be a returning customer.........

Chips were ok (a lot had black spots through them), batter crisp, curry sauce was thick and delicious.... But fish was dripping in oil. The cod was absolutely inedible. We tried to dab off the excess with paper towel, but we all had to pick the batter off in order to just eat it. This was our second try. I even requested when ordering over the phone that they let it sit for longer, as our last order we had was sitting in a pool of oil in the box. I was promised he would personally ensure that it was not oily this time. I would only recommend if you have an unhealthy obsession with fish and chips and need to be turned off forever. The only reason I haven't given 1 star is to not appear vindictive.

At 7.50 pm on bank holiday Monday I ordered food from you using food hub! At 8.45 I recieved a message after being told food was on its way!! That you were actually shut!! Wow good job I didn’t want anything to eat I guess??. Do your self a favour and don’t let food hub sort your buisness out!!🤬🤬

Not impressed at all with the food delivered via just eat I don't know whether they are trying to meet delivery deadlines but sending out uncooked fish is not acceptable if I wanted sushi I would have ordered sushi and when you speak to them to let them know all you get is someone with an attitude problem

Usually pretty good food. However ordered food to be delivered for when I finished work and it arrived 40mins before requested time which means cold fish and chips for me when I get home.

I have lived in the Hampshire/Wiltshire area for many years but recently moved to Trowbridge - After trying all the Fish & Chip shops in the local area and them only being "ok or shockingly bad" i decided to drive a little further and try Robinsons. Wow am i glad i did, I have not tasted Fish and chips like this for over two decades. The chips are freshly cooked, not overly greasy and are served in a bag with plenty of salt & Vinegar, which i love as most chippies put the smallest amount of salt & vinegar on that you can barely taste! There is something about these chips i just can't put my finger on which makes them as i used to remember in London which is that they had that certain after taste whether this is the particular potato or oil they use i don't know but they are delicious. P.S the portion size for a large is accurate, I can just about finish a large chips with a chicken burger... The Fish has a lovely battered coating, crunchy on the outside soft delicate fish on the inside and perfectly cooked until golden brown. The chicken burger is a fresh piece of juicy chicken that uses the same batter as the fish and is prepared fresh upon ordering, again cooked to perfection (golden brown) and not greasy, lovely tasting! Also the bun is a good quality bun not one of these cheap pack of buns you buy from the supermarket. Customer service has always been excellent and we have only visited 3 times, the staff call you sir, thank you for your custom and are very polite. This really is a hidden gem and i would highly recommend this to anyone!

The fish and chips we had yesterday were greasy, also the batter on fish seemed a bit over cooked. Doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be,and also fairly expensive.I have been going to it for last eleven years.

We have been here before and usually it was very nice, but the Food we were served up last night was definitely Sub Standard. We both went for Cod and Chips, Peas & Curry Sauce. I thought we were on a loser right from the start as when I picked them up from the Shop the whole Area stank of over used Oil?? it was bloody awful to say the least. When we got Home and opened the Box our Food came in, the same smell of old Cooking Oil came Wafting out it was disgusting! there was way to much Oil in the Fish Batter that’s for sure it was swimming in the stuff, I took one mouthful and “YES” it went straight into the Bin where in belonged, and!... to top it off the Peas were Cold like they just came out of the Fridge, the only thing that was ok was the Curry Sauce. A Very very poor establishment, I Know it was a Bank Holiday but that is no excuse to serve up Dodgy food and have the Audacity to charged money for it. Thats another place will will give a miss In the future.........

Very expensive and poor quality. £4:50 cheesy chips extremely small portion, 2 cod which was over cooked and greasy. Chips were ok. Wont be returning any time soon.

Ordered through Deliveroo. Arrived on time and portion size was generous. spring roll, batteref sausage and curry sause all ok. Chips however we all soggy. and childrens burger meal was poor - half a cheap burger in a bun. My 9 year old son (who will normally eat anything) refused to eat it and ended up with us needing to cook an alternative meal. v

Tried to order, but can't seem to order a sausage or battered sausage without adding sauce via deliveroo app. A common mistake many takeaways make. Not all customers want sauce.

I rarely eat fish & chips but had cod & chips from Robinsons today.fish was perfect crispy outside & moist inside, chips crispy and not oily. Will recommend and be back for more soon.

They offer gluten free fish and chips on the last Tuesday each month and everyday the chips are gluten free. Our son recently diagnosed with coeliacs was delighted last night with his gluten free treat. The food tasted amazing, light batter and proper chip shop chips. We go here most Fridays and my wife is very fussy and she loves the fish! Always cooked to order. The chips are chunky and crispy and they have a great method of making sure the orders are correct and speedy. The busyness of the place is testament to how good they are :)

The crappiest fish and chips ever! Fish cake tasteless and so dry. Chips mediocre at best and as for mushy peas! Bland, pale in colour and peas involved were really hard. Will not return here and advise others not to do so either. Over priced and crap.

Best fish and chips I've had in Trowbridge

So for £7 you get small cod and chips. By Small they really mean small. never have i seen a places portion sizes shrink so much in the matter of months

Came here to try the food, was told they ran out of steak pies and won’t be doing anymore this was at 5:45pm the whole evening to go and not doing anymore. The chips all stuck to the bag think they need better chip bags. However what we did have was very nice.

We were staying at a local campsite where Robinsons deliver fish & chips twice a week. We sample fish & chips from a lot of fish shops up and down the country and the fish & chips we ordered from Robinsons were one of the best we have tasted. The fish was good quality and cooked to perfection with a thin crispy batter, and the chips were also very good. It’s difficult to keep takeaway food from going a bit soggy due to the heat given off, but Robinsons managed to deliver them promptly and in a very acceptable condition.

Fish and chips are bang on at the moment. Went back here as a change from our usual chippie in Bradford on Avon as they close on a Monday. Wise move! Robinsons served up a treat. Nice generous quantities and cooked to perfection (and quickly to order so fresh as...).Fish was in thin crispy batter, chips were nice and dry - not at all greasy. Robinsons is now back to being our favourite chippie!I see some old reviews on here which give a poor rating, but they relate to curry sauce consumers. Now those kind of people shouldn't be let lose in a chip shop anyway.If you want that stuff go to the curry house instead.

You order fish and chips and thats what you get. I dont think there better than anywhere else in trowbridge and the wait is often a good 10 minutes or more.

Usually a young bunch, but they know how to cook fish and chips really well!As most places these days, they tend to cook to order which is great, however if you are not fond of waiting around, then just call them in advance to make an order to collect!Their sweet potato fries are excellent too! quite a large standard serve.. in fact for my partner and I, one serve is enough for both, however will leave that to you!I have been going there for at least 4 years, and never had a bad experience. Great guys, great food!

Ordered cod. Lovely batter and no bones in fish. Chips nicely cooked crisp.....not limp or soggy. Server friendly. Will return.
