There were 7 of us there yesterday to spontaneously pick up food. It was the best fish and chips we ate during our 2 week holiday in England. The fish was tasty, the consistency was ideal - juicy on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside. The chips were also nice and crunchy and tasty. The owner was extremely accommodating, friendly, funny and clearly enjoyed talking to us Germans and was interested in us not only as customers (it was clear that we were in transit and would not be able to come back) but also as people. Keep it up!

The driver rang and asked where we were checking on the map he was the wrong side of Chippenham. Perhaps a satnav would help. because of this the food needed reheating

Exceptionally good. Food arrived on time, fish was piping hot, crispy batter and chips were excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Was cold and tasted a little strange

The excellent meal outweighed the fact that it was late

Ordered cod fish in the morning and once more in the afternoon while waiting for the bus. The shop is conveniently located just opposite the Chippenhem bus station. Delicious fish. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The lovely lady in the afternoon helped me to fill up my water bottle too. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I have sent in a customer complaint. Delivery driver did not show at Buckles for nearly 2 hours to collect our order, so we had to pick up ourselves. Buckles owner very apologetic on your behalf and had to cook our order twice. Will not use Just Eat delivery again as it’s easier and quicker to collect the lovely food Buckles produces ourselves. A full refund is expected.

the driver was late arriving to collect the food, and knowing this restaurant they would have cooked it at the time ordered, therefore the food was not at the standard that it normally is, it was in need of being warmed through and the fish was 'chewy,

Missing curry sauce no mayo and no salt n vinegar but tastes good anyway

Food quality was not good unlike the last time we ordered, hence reordering, chips were very hard

Earlier the better, food was delivered hot and really delicious as always.

Very regularly frequent this fish shop. Have done for many years. Always considered it as best in area. Last 2 visits disappointed. Fish not up to usual standard. Most disappointed in table being extremely sticky despite a wipe down. Hopefully, this can be resolved as we are great fans of the restaurant and manager is great

We were visiting my sister in law in Chippenham. So not being from the area, looked on line and saw the good reviews. Considering the price of fish and chips these days, I have never been more disappointed with the fish, chips were lovely. Fish however was three quarter batter and the fish was dry and in short supply. I do not normally write reviews, but was bitterly disappointed with tonight’s serving.

Really lovely fish..mushrooms…mushy peas …and small plain sausage for my service dog, won’t go anywhere else.

We popped in for birthday fish and chips after a long day at work. We got home and found the order was missing a piece of fish. We called and the team were lovely, the owner dealt with the issue immediately by personally driving over and rectifying our order. Thank you so much you went above and beyond to fix a genuine mistake

Food was 2 hours late. I had a call from Buckles to explain delay. This was not an issue caused by Buckles, this was an issue with Just Eat drivers. Apparently, an order placed after mine was collected and mine had to be cooked fresh at least twice before eventually a driver was assigned. Food was eventually delivered by a very nice driver and food was hot and fresh. Very good food as usual.

Chips were very obviously cheap frozen chips, tasted horrible. Mushy peas were disgusting. Surprisingly the fish was actually nice and flakey. Original delivery time was 40 minutes before delivery arrived. The worst fish and chips I’ve had in a long time

Do you know what probably the best fish, saveloy, chips and curry sauce this year. A little wait but who cares when it is this good

Good food, however chips aren’t tradition chip shop chips, more like frozen oven chips and this was disappointing. Other items good though, delivery on time and food hot.

the fish was overcooked and more than half was like jerky. Towards the edges, you couldn't even chew it. the center was fine but that was only a few good bites. the onion rings were good but the sausage was also overcooked.

The driver was a long time getting to the restaurant, and l think that the meal had been cooked on time and was kept warm, this was unfortunate as the meals are usually much better when fresh.

Fantastic food, ate in and had large fish n chips and was very full . Friendly helpful staff , stopping at the Best Western hotel 2 minute walk away , great choice to come here 👌

The driver rang to ask where we were, but he could not understand my instructions, my husband went outside and the driver was driving up and down, he would have been better getting out of the car and listening to what l said.

Food was given to driver 50 minutes before delivered and had to call restaurant to chase it up. Food is good and shop owner lovely.

food was cold, curry sauce was fridge cold and chips are not tasty when cold. your food has been 10/10 till now

Buckles what have you done! This was always my favourite takeaway. For the second time now I have dry hard chips, weird cheap cheese and a pretty below standard burger. Not sure where it's all changed but please change the cheesy chips back... I miss them!

I have a lovely meal gluten free battered fish chips and battered mushrooms. it was very tasty I'm very pleased with my food. portion size is really good more than enough for one person. All cooked fresh and steaming hot when deliverd. Very fast delivery nice polite man

Great food every time. Staff have always been so lovely and so pleased to finally have a fish and chips that does gluten free every day, and it tastes amazing.

It is some years since we went to Buckles but we fancied Fish & Chips in a place where we could eat in. After reading a couple of negative reviews on Tripadvisor we nearly gave it a miss. Thank goodness we didn't. The restaurant is lovely and clean, and the food was cooked to order. We had a large cod and chips and a haddock and chips, both with mush peas and tea. Both were piping hot and really excellent. The staff were happy and very pleasant. We would happily recommend Buckles to anyone. Great job Buckles

Food was tepid but not fault of the restaurant. It was a Friday eve and I guess the drivers were busy. Heated the food in the oven and it was alright. Just had hungry bairns to feed !

This is not the first time the order was late, even after leaving the restaurant late the driver had to telephone to find us, and then after l explained where we are, he went to the wrong address. l will continue to use 'just eat' as l cannot fault Buckles, and you are the only delivery service for them unfortunately.

the fish is close to inedible and the chips taste like they were cooked yesterday and then reheated. the mushrooms stink of fish so not one part was acceptable. sorry

First time going here and had a delivery and was impressed. Fish was great and good size. Only thing against is they aren’t proper chippy chips but they were nice to be fair.

Both chips and fish were overcooked. Hard to get the fork into the chips and the batter was over cooked. 50p extra to eat in.

Really good. Batter a little harder than regular batter but that’s because it Gluten Free so no points knocked off. Will order again.

Always great food and being cooked to order means no soggy chips or stodgy batter. Definitely recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dropped in for a sit down fish n chips at lunchtime and was not disappointed. Tasty and cooked perfectly. Locals will know of another chippy allegedly the best in Chippenham. Not anymore that title goes to Buckles.

Food arrived cold was delayed 40 mins. £7.20 for a cheeseburger only had a tiny bit of salad and half a slice of cheese and no sauce. No salt and vinegar even though I asked for it. First time trying Buckles won't be ordering again

Time kept changing as to how far away driver was at one point he was down the road next he was some where completely different chips cold and not very nice looking at all lots of bad black potatoes used really unappetising

Unfortunately, the waiting time kept changing. The burger was lovely, and my little one did enjoy her fish and chips Unfortunately my chips and cheese barely had any cheese on the chips at all and they were cold and the mushrooms were cold.

If you want "proper" chip shop chips don't order from here.... saveloy was tiny. Apart from that it was enjoyable

Chips may be frozen but they tasted lovely , I had the fishcake chips and a pot of curry sauce , the meal arrived quickly and hot , and a unexpected side of salad , the young staff were very polite and friendly and my doggie was allowed in also ,overall very very good 👍 😀

Best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. Batter was crispy and fresh, no oilyness and chips were super nice and perfect texture too. Service in the shop was really nice too, very friendly cheerful peeps. 😊

Is it me or is £8 for takeaway small cod and chips expensive? I thought the chips were overcooked but many people may prefer it to soggy chips (which I prefer). The wait was short and staff friendly. There is seating available for those who want to eat out.

What has happened to Buckles? I have previously given them 5 stars and good comments. Today the food was awful, cod did not taste like cod and chips were frozen chips, today it is only 1 star

Honestly the worst "chippy" I've ever had.. no salt and vinegar on the order as requested on the phone.. the chips..awful . Frozen not chippy chips at all, the fish was pretty mehhh too. Wouldn't recommend.

We fancied fish and chips as we were passing through Chippenham. Stopped here lots of parking outside. A little surprised there wasn't a queue. In hindsight this was probably an indication of how popular this establishment is. Our order was taken quickly £20.20 for large cod and regular chips twice. The food is cooked to order so during the wait I had the chance to look a little closer. The seating and waiting area really needed a deep clean. Dust hanging out of the bottom of the radiator. Loads of cobwebs on the ceiling. Floor and skirting boards all needed a good scrub. No other customers came in while we were waiting. The food was pretty bad. The chips were frozen and had that awful dry texture, just like like oven chips. The fish was equally bad, a moment away from being undercooked and had a soggy blanket like batter coating. Both the chips and the fish had a horrible after taste, presumably from the oil used for frying. I really wanted proper fish and chips and was disappointed on every level with what we we paid for here. Most of it went in the bin!

Gutted that the chips were frozen and not proper chippy chips, should have read the reviews first. Feel cheated

Just a wonderful treat for fish and chips or chicken and chips, with professional and friendly staff, brilliant!

Very good Fish and Chip shop with a big following in the area. When ordering plaice you will get large whole one which is full of flavour, enough to fill you up without chips if you are not a big eater. There are tables inside if you want to dine in. A few parking places directly outside and extra places nearby. Wheelchair access is OK as nice and level entrance.

Excellent gluten free options for my daughter who has coeliacs. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Food came relatively quickly. The staff are young but very good but the fish in batter was very greasy this time.

Buckles cooks your order on arrival so there can be a bit of a wait if they're busy, but the food is hot, freshly made and very tasty. Traditional chippy fare but nicely done. The staff are polite and efficient, and there is a dine in option.

I have not bin to this chip shop but I no people that had a lot of good memories here so if you can buy and come here it needs some help so please buy buy buy from this place. Thanks god bless
