I pre-ordered 17 meals for an event I was running. The lady who took the order on the phone was friendly, helpful and sounded genuinely pleased to get a large order (not always the case with other takeaways). When I arrived the following day to pick up the order at the set time it was all ready to go, packaged easily with guidance as to what was in each box. The staff were very friendly too. The food was perfectly cooked (no soggy batter) and delicious. Excellent all-round.

I'm not a regular customer because I don't visit Devizes very often but when I do I always buy lunch from this chippie because I find the quality reliable and the service cheerful and friendly. They seem to cook to order so the food is always fresh. The price of cod and chips is pretty reasonable and the portion sizes are perfect for me.

Been coming here for years, however over the last 12 months the quality of food has noticeably dropped. Cold chips. Inconsistent portion sizes. Long waits. Missing items. Shame as we used to love coming here for a take out chippy.

Everything cooked in same oil so rubbish for anyone with an allergy, vegetarians, vegans etc

Called in on Wednesday lunchtime, very busy as it always seems to be, served by a very friendly lady with a beaming smile, my Cod and Chips were cooked fresh with a light and crispy batter and served in a bio friendly box. The young man cooking at the time was very knowledgeable and was even able to tell me the name of the boat that the fish was caught by and the variety of the potatoes used, I will definitely be back for more.

Whilst this isn't a sit-down establishment (and therefore "atmosphere" isn't really applicable) as Lemon Plaice deserves 5 out of 5 in all aspects, I would hate for them to be marked down because I didn't score a 5 here. Best fish and chips in the area in our opinion. Great service too!

Had cod and chips 28/7/23 and fish not as nice as usual, a little dry. Hope this is not a trend.

What has happened to The Lemon Plaice it used to be so good. Today I ordered senior citizen cod and chips. It definitely wasn't cod! I can forgive the chips at this time of year. But the fish was dry the batter tasteless. I think battered cardboard comes to mind. They've lost my custom.

I would love to say that this portion of fish and chips was just as yummy as it always is but, being greedy I suppose, I was disappointed there were not so many chips as usual. I was quite disappointed but probably healthier 😞.

Quite simply, the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. And always consistently good. Batter is rich and crispy without being greasy or overbearing and the chips are exactly what you want from a chippie.

We waited an age for the food, which was mediocre to say the least. The jumbo sausages didn't looked as if they had been cooked, to say they were anaemic would be an understatement. The chips were not cooked properly and the cod we ordered didn't make it into the bag. One piece of fish was placed in a polystyrene box, with the rest of the order on top, so the fish was flattened. The batter was thin and tasteless and the fish was not good either. All in all a bad experience. As we were only there for the weekend and the shop closed at 8pm, we were unable to return to ask for a refund on the food we did not receive. If we ever go back to Devizes we won't be using this fish and chip shop again. It was our second choice as the one recommended was closed.

We bought eight meals, but discovered the cod we ordered was missing. Unable to go back because the shop was closed. We were here for the weekend so unable to obtain a refund for missing fish.

My favourite chippy in Devizes. Efficient staff, yummy food, fair prices. Fast service. The banter between the staff makes the wait feel even shorter.

Buying fish n chips used to be quick but I was there for over 20 minutes and watched other customers come and go while my chips went cold and my cod dried out under a heat lamp. Not sure if this shop has recently changed hands but its definitely not as good as it once was.

Visited this place for cod and chips , long queue which I thought was through popularity but soon realised it was slow service. I paid nearly £9 for cod and chips and because of the wait time I was expecting freshly cooked cod , unfortunately not . The cod has skin and there was NO bubberly crunchy batter... Just soggy no crisp . Chips were fine but definitely won't eat there again Wetherspoons do a much better crispy cod and at a cheaper price .

Cod was ok chicken pie was microwaved and spongy yuk staff seemed to be all miserable not a great experience really

This place has changed massively since the owner fell very unfortunately ill, portion sizes have almost halved! What you ask for and what you get are two different things! They literally have no que system - or didn’t when I last visited regardless I was on a lunch break and wasted nearly 45 waiting even though people seemed to order more than me along with the fact that what they ordered wasn’t actually ready to go in the glass yet some how they managed to get theirs before me… my cheese and chips took 45 minutes considering I was staring at my battered sausage from the minute I walked in, as I did have in my head “it’ll be quick just get that” 45 minutes it sat there! As you can guess wasn’t fresh however I imagine it was 45 minutes ago funny enough… batter was too thick and tasteless! My “Cheese” and chips that had a couple of grated bits of cheese chucked into the box (I guess they hoped the tiny amount of cheese would melt - wrong) was appalling as mentioned - half a portion, not exactly hot and definitely not fresh! I miss Norman what a guy! He kept the place running brilliantly, it’s sad that I’m leaving this review as there isn’t actually a much better chip shop in town anymore when this one used to thrive above the others by far in my old opinion! I won’t be returning to find out if you manage to fix some of these issues sadly, due to watching this chippy go further and further down hill since then.

I used to live next door in the Rising Sun pub 40 years ago and now I'm back living in Devizes I had to pay a visit to Lemon Plaice to see if it was as good as it was back then. Finally managed to catch them after work this evening and I was absolutely delighted to find they're better. I had a seniors cod and chips with curry sauce. The fish was very tasty and well cooked, batter perfect with just the right amount of crisp and no empty ends as I call them. The chips were perfectly cooked too and the portion size was just right for me. I will definitely be making Lemon Plaice my place to go now and very convenient as it's only a 5 minute walk from home.

Normally an extremely good chippy albeit always painfully slow service. However tonight’s offering was genuinely poor. Cold chips, congealed curry sauce, watery yet lumpy gravy and lukewarm, uninspiring fish. Best time guys I’ll just send you the £20 and stay at home. Not great.

Nice chippy but be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes, even if you only want a small bag of chips as they serve everyone in order. If someone in front of you wants a chicken burger and something else that needs to be made from scratch you will be waiting for your chips until they have got theirs, even though you could have been served in less than a minute!

Absolutely appalled. EVERYTHING is cooked in the SAME oil regardless of whether vegetarian or not. My partner is currently awaiting an emergency medical appointment as a result of the mixed frying with no regard for allergies. All he ordered was chips, which should simply be potatoes fried in oil. Absolutely appalled by this.

After a very hard day I really didn't want to cook and as I found myself in town I decided to grab some takeaway food. I ordered a double cheeseburger with everything on it and small chips. First of all, the burger bun was a bit dry but that was nothing compared to the burgers themselves. They were of an ok size but they were dry and leathery on the outside but sort of ok in the middle which made them rather unpleasant. It was like they'd been kept in a heated cabinet and not freshly cooked. The salad was disappointing and the 'everything' turned out to be a bit of lettuce and a single slice of cucumber. No tomato, no sliced gherkin and worst of all, not very much of it. The cheese was a single tiny slice of something or other which was absolutely tasteless. This annoyed me because you pay for it as an extra and it isn't exactly a bargain price. In terms of sauces they put a small dollop of ketchup and mayo. Very disappointing indeed. The only redeeming thing about the order was the chips which were fresh and tasty and a good sized portion even though I'd ordered a small. Overall this is by no means the best burger in town and I would recommend going somewhere else because I know for a fact the food would be cheaper with larger patties, better prepared (i.e. freshly cooked), with lots of salad and a selection of pickles and sauces all included in the price of a double cheeseburger instead of a 'build your own' type arrangement which always seems to work out very costly. I doubt very much I will bother going here again.

Absolutely appalled by the state of the potion of cheesy chips I got. Not only was it half a portion but they weren't even cooked and I have more cheese on my feet.

Have had fish and chips from here before and they were lovely so decided to travel specially to Devizes however, was very disappointed to find that Lemon Plaice was closed despite the website clearly stating that they were open...maybe in future opening days and times should be updated in advance to save customers time and money

We get takeaway from here regularly and sometimes it's amazing and others not so good. They need a bit more consistency really. When it's good, the fish is wonderful, chunky and moist - but sometimes it's flat and dry. You're never quite sure which it's going to be! Still, overall I would say the food is pretty good and the staff friendly.

The best fish-n-chips Devizes, can not fault them perfect.

We only get fish and chips from the Lemon Plaice because they are the best ever. We get them usually once a week or fortnight. In the last 2 months I have arrived at the shop at 7.30/7.45 (Tonight I was there at 7.38pm). They were closed. According to the door and website it was due to close at 8.pm. The staff were in there, No one came to door to explain why. During this year Fish and chip nights is the only time off from cooking I get. Once can be forgiven but 3 times is unforgivable. You have lost my custom after years.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips everytime. Excellent customer service, and all procedures adhered to in these times. Can get really busy so if your in a hurry worth ringing through your order. Well worth it though

always very good food and my first choice in the town for fish & chips, a shame to have a wait a while at the moment at weekends but guidelines are being followed very well in regards to Covid so we feel very safe to order from here. we just remember an umbrella if the weather is poor as you are not permitted to wait inside in any number. highly recommend but give yourself plenty of time at weekends.

20years of asking for vegi options and the staff look like they want to spit on you. They have terrible attitudes in this chippie. Chips are always undercooked and white and the reviews everywhere say the same thing. It never sinks in. They've been told about it... they just don't care about customers and are happy to insult you for being vegi and a few times I have walked out. If they dont want real world customers and wont get in things like vegiburgers or cheese and onion pasties I never want to go there again. They come across like rednecks and even fight amongst themselves infront of the customers. Appalling. They have a sign up on the window which says "5 star rating" and as you can see its 4 online... so they are clearly up themselves. The only reason people eat there is because of its prominent location. I bet many dont go back.

We have eaten from here 3 times and on 2 of those occasions the chips have been slightly gritty, it's as though the potatoes we're a bit sandy. The curry sauce was good and so were the mushrooms and pea friter, I can't fault the service or cleanliness, it's just a shame about the chips.
