We went with my daughter and two granddaughters. The staff couldn't have been more helpful to the two little girls. Brought out crayons colouring books and games if they wanted to play. The quality of the child's menu was excellent along with the meals we had. It is a wonderfully restored and beautiful building well worth a visit for all of the above. To top it off the staff were very efficient and friendly. We have been before but had left it for a while. We will be back a lot sooner this time!

My wife and I were looking for an early evening meal prior to attending a talk at nearby Blackfriars and walking along Southgate we very quickly spotted Robert Raikes House. Interestingly a man sitting outside - enjoying a beer - said how good the meals were and so we went in and browsed the menu. We stopped - the prices were pretty good, the choice of meals amazing and so we embarked upon a really nice supper. Service was friendly, efficient, quick - the food was hand cooked and generously portioned. (My ham, egg, peas and fries might sound boringly standard - but it tasted delicious and yes, it proved why it is one of my favourites when out!) So I thoroughly recommend the pub for a meal and given its central location, this venue can be a focus for any visitor to the city. Malcolm

My friend and I took a day trip from Bath to Gloucester. We were shocked by the demise of the city! Anyway, we went for lunch at this place and we were super happy. A beautiful building, tastefully redone, but still had old beams from ships from the 1500's Jeez! Normal pub lunch, (we had Scampi and chips) but our lunch was just fab and so inexpensive. Plus, the Landlord was such a nice bloke. And last but not least, their Loo's were so so clean!

An absolutely splendid place to have lunch, this pub has oldie worldie character and charm on the outside and inside, there are many rooms and little nooks where you can eat with log fires 🔥 burning and very friendly, helpful and polite staff. The building is clean well decorated, cleaning well presented, the meals are absolutely excellent well presented, hot and really tasty and delicious. With high quality and a generous helpings and at very reasonable prices. We were a party of 4 and none of us had been to this pub before, but we were so impressed all of us would visit again and would highly recommend a visit and a meal here. Top Marks to the owners and staff for a job well done and Thank you all.

Checking out spots for lunch in central G, struck conversation with young (female) employee about the food and drink situation, having visited a few years ago for drinks and sat in garden. Variety of food options and drink, love stouts, and remembering it was a calm and cosy pub, which I love, what with me being a youngish, old man. Sat at table 14, the perfect seat, but other areas really nice too.Food, Catch of Day was ample and well cooked, 1700 calories no less. Stout was as is, they offer others, bottled imperial stouts etc. To get full experience had sticky toffee pud, which was ample and served with ice cream. Overall, enjoyed my lunch, left as full as can be. Wont be eating today. If I had my special lady friend with me, I'd happily have shared. Also nice facilities, and a lot of space.

I went in there this evening, lovely pub and a very nice, calm atmosphere considering it’s Christmas, however….I was served by the Leeds supporter on the bar, I was polite, tried talking to him about his team, but he was very rude and obnoxious . The other staff seemed really nice and helpful, but not him. I ordered a cider and a spiced rum and coke…he charged me £16.85! He may be the reason why the place was so dead.

Even one star is too much… this has to be the worst pub for service, food and drink, We visited several weeks ago, the place was filthy and service was disgusting especially from management… which I must point out were relief staff…took our food order then returned 10 mins later to say nothing was available as not much stock in due to landlord being on leave..So we requested a refund at the bar, to be told we had to wait for relief landlady, who then stuck her head round the door and said what’s wrong.. we explained and she just looked at barmen and said… oh just give it to them and promptly walked away, terrible service from beginning to end, would not recommend this place at all!!!

After traipsing around Gloucester in the November drizzle, we opted for here for lunch. 4 adults and 2 children. We found seats in one of the rooms at the rear where a warming fire awaited us. The adults had the Sunday roasts (2 beef, 1 pork, 1 chicken), one of the kids when for the sausages and mash, and the other for the cheese platter. The friendly staff warned us before we ordered that we should expect a 40 min wait as 14 orders were ahead of us. We had nowhere to be in a rush so had no problems with that. And it was well worth the wait. Food was hot and clearly had not been sat around for hours on end - rather, it all tasted made to order. Wonderful. We would certainly return the next time we visit Gloucester.

We were on holiday and wanted a nice place to eat with home cooked traditional food in a nice cosy place with a nice friendly atmosphere. The Robert Raikes did not disappoint it ticked every box. The pub had a warm feel and is full of history and character. We didn't wait long for our meal and it was delicious. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and returned for another visit later in our trip. There was a selection of games which you could play if you wished, which l thought was a nice touch. We would definitely recommend and hope to go again.

I felt this was a good platform before taking this further. The current landlord of this establishment needs to keep his hands to himself. Having first called the owner in the hopes he would could deal with this discreetly and professionally. He showed no concern or the least bit of empathy. The Landlord feels he can put his hands on women as soon as their husbands leave the room and laugh it off like its no big deal. It's really not ok. To the owner. Check your cameras. If you would care to discuss this again please do let me know.

I've been an on and off customer here for ten years and the service is always impeccable with friendly faces. The decor is inclusive and I dont feel judged or self conscious there. The coffee is nice and strong just how I like it, but they also offer seasonal blends for the more adventurous or someone with a different palet. There are also some great perks on the app during the Christmas season which makes Neros stand out from the competitors. They have been generous with those.
