Avoid. £6.99 and a 20 minute wait for a breakfast wrap that was nuclear hot and inedible for another 20 minutes after finally arriving. A quick stop for breakfast took nearly an hour!

Just spent 10 minutes waiting for a breakfast bagel while the three 'members of staff' (to put it politely) discussed what shifts they could over the next few days, what shifts 'Sharnie' could cover, etc, etc. Abysmal and disrespectful service.

Called in here for breakfast. I had two fried eggs on toast and an Earl Grey tea, all pretty good. Wife had the veggie wrap which was pretty grim, a bit dry with chunks of veg in it, £13.97 for two. Cutlery was dirty, and when we took it back to exchange it took the lad about 6 sets before he found a set that was clean!

Lovely place to stop and eat friendly people will definitely use this stop again and recommend it to others.

Gluten free options brilliant. Lovely friendly staff. Hidden gem. I will go out of my way to use them again (have previously avoided roadshef as mcdonalds useless for gluten free!!)

Just had a full English at fresh foods. Cooked to order even the beans were really hot. The best breakfast I've had at a motorway services. Staff pleasant and hardly any wait

Hard to describe breakfast, eat fresh the sign says. This has to be the worst place I've ever stopped in. £12+ for a breakfast that has been stood for hours,dry and like warm. No customers eating but lots of staff standing around just chewing the fat. I'd pack it in eat fresh, how'd youake money like that place is awfull

Got a breakfast from fresh food cafe and it was absolutely awful! We asked for no butter on toast but came out with butter on and it was practically still bread. The breakfast was cold and thrown together in a paper tub. I wouldn’t recommend at all , it was the worst fry up I’ve ever had.

I received a parking fine from them for taking a nap longer than 2 hours in their car park after a long drive. Tiny warning signs for parking limit of 2 hours never saw due to tiredness and darkness in the area.

Clean and neat with room to stretch your legs. But as soon as you get out of the car the you will be bowled over by the stench of stale chips and cheap fried food. Why they have to vent the kitchens directly onto the car park is beyond me. The single story buildings have plenty of room for tall flues to take away the stink. Ruined for lack of thought.

In motorway service stations the choice tends to be very limited. This is really perplexing given the number of people who are using these facilities. The options generally are - buy a sandwich or something else cold from a W H Smith, M&S, some other similar style of store, or buy hot fast foods from MacDonalds, Burger King or similar. When we stop for lunch we are usually looking for something hot but not fast food. On the M6 there is Teebay but on the M1 we have found few satisfying stops. Roadchef Fresh Food Cafe offered a limited range of hot foods but at least it offered us an alternative from fast foods. We chose a Chicken Tikka curry which was served fairly quickly and it was a very acceptable option. If only it could offer a few more options of a less spicy or more European variety we would be pleased to use the service again. We had a mixed reception from staff. The person taking the order was brisk and unsmiling whereas the person who served us the meal was full of smiles and friendly. The latter redeemed our feelings of the experience at Roadchef. The facilities (toilets) were clean and in good condition and not too busy. That is a bonus as some service stations have 'less desirable' toilet facilities.

I travel a lot for business. I often grab a sandwich and a drink, but fancied something hot that wasn't McDonalds or Burger King or KFC. I went for something badged as "fresh food". A piri piri chicken wrap. Safe choice. How could anyone get this wrong? Road "Chef" can. What I received after sitting for ten minutes at a dirty, uncleared table with a fly buzzing around (in October) - was a dry, floury cold wrap with a smear of some sort of sauce, a bit of cut green chilli, some coriander and bits of overcooked breaded chicken that looked like something a cat would leave in a litter box. As I was starving, I ate some of it and threw the rest away. I've never found a place that makes McDonalds look like it serves good food. Until now. Even the chips were awful. That's right. They can't even cook chips properly. Yuck. The one saving grace was the pleasant manner of the lady at the till. She deserves to be working somewhere better.

Called in here for lunch on the way down south.  It was good food and freshly cooked.  They have a good system using pagers to let you know when your food was ready.  Staff were all very friendly.  We had two full English breakfasts and a portion of toast, three teas all for £21.78 which was very good value

I only visited the Roadchef at Tibshelf for the first time last year, but it has quickly become my second favourite service station on the UK motorways network. In fact, I love it so much that I came here for my recent birthday. The staff were very friendly and there's a great choice of eateries and retailers. Highly recommend it to anyone who's celebrating a special occasion.

If you are after a healthy breakfast, or a Full-English, freshly cooked and served both hot and to any/all exacting requirements. This is the place to stop when heading North on the M1. Add to this the friendly staff, range of snacks, salads and darnies in an uncluttered cafe makes it a first class choice. Thank you

Don't eat here. 2 sandwiches 1 tea 1 coffee Equals £14.37 Baguette soft and doughy with no flavour cheese YUK

Waited ages for the meal to be ready. Gourmet Burger? A dry bun with cold bacon and minimal cheese sat on top of grissly burger. Never again! Now I know why there was a huge queue at Macdonalds 😂😂😂

Stopped off on way home. Ham and cheese roll. Freshly made, filled a hole, not bad. Very pleasant staff.

Ham, egg and chips for one friend Jacket pot with tuna etc 2 teas. All excellent. Freshly cooked . StAff extremely helpful and kind. Everywhere lovely and clean. First class.

Absolutely disgusted at the service we received from the fresh food cafe. £15 to wait almost 40 minutes for a jacket potato and a wrap. Nothing “fresh” about the food either. We will not be visiting again.

Right right right let’s all stop moaning about the price of the food because we all know service stations add a premium -.-£16 for two breakfast muffins and a coffee and a can BUT the food came hot fresh and tasted perfect, well done bacon as I asked, runny eggs (y) I also added 4 hash browns onto it YOLO

At least they are consistent with motorway services throughout England, in my experience. In other words rubbish expensive food and poor service. And they close early so don't expect to able to get something to eat in the evening. Like many others I end up eating a sandwich in the car. Why motorway services in this country are so uniformly bad and so expensive is beyond me. There needs to be some real competition from people who can offer something decent and put these crooks out of business. And don't get me started on the petrol prices!

Full English breakfast is too expensive but the portion is ok .front customer service Staff should definitely be more energetic and feel you welcome at least in the morning time.smile!!!!!

Rude, unfriendly staff. Ordered 2 full English, a round of toast, tea and coffee. Was told 5 to 10 minute wait for food. Tea and coffee were finished before food was ready over 20 minutes later. Went to collect the food when buzzer went off and the toast on top was thickly buttered. Some people might like this, we don't. I expected dry toast with butter on side. I said sorry, could I have dry toast? The woman serving picked up the plate, without speaking, turned to the woman in the back and asked for dry toast. Both women stared at each other rolling their eyes right in front of me, so rude and such poor service. They should have asked if I wanted the toast buttered if the butter wasn't served separately. Breakfast was OK but certainly not freshly cooked considering there was a 20 minute wait and it wasn't overly busy. A few tables needed clearing too.

Ham and cheese panini and a portion if chips, a little over 6 quid so even for a motorway service station you would expect a bit of quality, not so at this place.... I have one word... Repulsive. Stodgy bun, awful quality ham with very little cheese and greasy chips...

called in on a road trip to use the facilities and get a hot drink. Nothing wrong with the place itself but as usual with these motorway service places the price on the coffee was ridiculous especially for the quality of coffee received.

Nice place, clean, child friendly, lot of choices including McDonalds, Costa. Childrens play area. Lot of space outside. Clean toilets.

Good food Good service Good value Will use again They seem to have a few regulars which is always a good sign. ( unlike the hotel next door, see separate review)

The staff were brilliant when I asked for plain eggs and bacon - it wasn’t on the menu and I didn’t want to throw away chips and sausages, mushrooms, toast and beans.

We could hardly hear ourselves talk. The music was loud, banging nightclub music at 1.00 pm in the afternoon. After several miles of motorway driving this is the last thing one needs. We felt worse when we left than when we arrived. We were told by the Costa staff that there was nowhere to sit to escape this dreadful noise. We complained to Rob Allen, the Roadchef manager via email, but we did not receive a reply.

Called into Tibshelf North service station this morning, which is part way to my destination. I normally eat at McDonald’s but fancied a change. I have never eating in a restaurant operated by Road-chef before this is the first and last time I will eat in one their restaurants. The breakfast looked lovely on the pictures so I opted for the vegetarian option. What I received was beyond disgusting and certainly did not look anything like the picture of the beautiful looking cooked breakfast on the menu. Breakfast was made up of 1 dried overcooked hash brown, two vegetarian sausages that had clearly been microwaved were pale in colour and very chewy, one small cold mushroom, a few tasteless beans and one fried egg which was the only decent thing on the plate. (see picture attached of breakfast served). With a cup of tea the total cost was a rip off price of £9.65.

On returning home from a trip we met up with other family members travelling in a different car for a meal and to say goodbyes. We paid for our meals separately, 2x couples and 1x family of 3. They cooked each order separately and didn’t start the next until the one before was finished. The last order took over 30minutes to be prepared despite being told it wouldn’t be more than 15 minutes. When this was questioned the staff member was uninterested, rude and unhelpful. By the time the food was ready on the last order the other two parties were finished. Also over half the menu was unavailable so a very limited choice and the chips tasted of the fried fish.

The menu shows very low prices for motorway stops and we did fancy a change from Costas so we gave it a try. The menu board was extensive but we settled for coffee and cakes which were acceptable.

Stayed at the hotel next door during a business trip and didn't want to drive any further so decided to check this place out for dinner. It was 7pm so I would have expected all to be well. First impressions were fine, it was clean and bright, with the prominently displayed menu boards promising a good selection. It went downhill from then onwards. I asked for one of the curry dishes only to be told no curries were available. Ok, chilli con carne next. Not available. Fish and chips? Not available. Jacket potato with filling? No potatoes available. By this stage I was expecting to be on a TV wind up programme but alas this was the service on offer. In resignation I asked what was available, to be told gammon or soup. I asked for gammon. Big mistake. It was inedible, and I settled for a bag of crisps from the shop instead. Absolutely shocking experience and I will never return to a Roadchef outlet. I didn't expect Michelin Star cooking but I did expect the promoted dishes to be available at 7pm on a midweek evening, and I did expect the eventually selected food to be edible. It seems my expectations were far too high.

Feeling very tired we called in for a snack. We were going to have a McDonalds but decided on the fresh food cafe. This was a big mistake. Hubby’s chicken was hot but very dry, beans appeared old and unappetising but it was edible and far better than mine. My chicken skewers were cold and my chips old. I did return them and was given a free cake in return.

Burt sausages you could not even break let alone cutworst food I have ever been served perhaps I should have asked the staff to eat it

Had to make a stop here and the choice of food was more varied than the normal motorway services As with all services the cost is always hiped up. Staff were friendly and helpful enough just a shame that the dirty tables let them down. Nice coffee and good filled fresh sandwich

Service grumpy and slow, food unappetising, price uninspiring, spoon dirty, and no knife to butter the stale roll, seating area scruffy... if you have to stop here cross the mall to Mc D's, but better still don't stop!

Three if us called last early evening for a meal.

Ordered fish and chips saw meals put on counter for young boy to bring to table as there was people ordering food those dinners sat there for at least 8 minutes I got up from where I was sitting and asked if those meals were for me I was then told they had not got mushy peas would beans do after a further 10 minutes these dinners reappeared fish batter was a very dark brown the fish had been refried the beans had been placed all over the chips looked a mess with that I informed the lad that there was no way I was going to eat it and demanded a refund we got in the car and went to the local fish and chip shop where the fish batter was a lovely golden colour and chips looked like chips my advice to any one wanting to eat there unless the chef is retrained or replaced your better off having a McDonald's

compared to a lot of service stations the food quality here isn't too bad

All the comments on here about the staff being poor are true. Uninterested is probably the most accurate description. They had no lasagne so I chose the Tikka. It was on a par with a supermarket microwave meal only half the size.

Went in and chose our food, one person in front of us and nobody behind, it took 9 minutes to get served even though there were two staff on. One counting money the other very slow.

Visited for an evening meal after checking in to the Days Inn Motel. We visited at 8.10. We asked Chicken Tikka, told they did'nt have any, asked what they did have, they asked what we wanted, tried again and asked for a Jacket Potato, replied, 'No Jackets'. then just stood and looked at us. We thought, oh well, they close at 8.30, so maybe all food has gone. We returned at 8.50 am next morning, asked for smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs, same response, 'got none' Was 'advised' to look at the pre packed in the fridges.

The Roadchef at Tibshelf Services is on the northbound and southbound M1 in Derbyshire. The southbound site is small and fairly basic with easy parking with areas to stretch your legs. Fine for a quick stop.

Enjoyed visiting these services and there was a variety of shops with good quality fresh food. Prices were as usual quite high but not too much. Toilets etc were clean and tidy. Parking was easy too!

I ordered a simple jacket potato with chilli the cafe was empty and it took 30 mins after which i saw it on the side ready to be served i could tell after a further 10 mins it wasn't coming went to ask for it to be told i needed to wait for a fork a further 6-7mins later it was served, stone cold and no chilli filling an absolute joke!!

After a bad stop on way down motorway at another services decided to give this a go on way back. Much better choice including healthier options. Tasty and well presented. Happy customers who would recommend and call again. Staff pleasant and helpful too. Thank you.

stopped on the motorway for coffee .had a sandwich and a coffee and my wife just had coffee. very quiet two staff working and the were so very nice .but we were in and out.

Food ordered at 12.58pm to Abbie who seemed disinterested, untrained and inattentive. Café was empty, hence an opportunity to use in faith the seemingly wide menu and lack or busy period, despite it being lunchtime. Noticed that used dining tables were left uncleared for the duration. Food from menu on offer for 3 adults and 1 child took 44 minutes to arrive - one of which was not as ordered. Diplomatically approaching Abbie she came across as angry and rude. Due to time constraints of our family journey I did not take this matter further. Most disappointing service and manners from staff. Wish I had the opportunity to seek Manager to explain that perhaps they would benefit how poorly their branch was on the day (25.09.16). Website states 'Your first-hand experiences really help other travellers. Thanks!' What has helped my dining experience is to utterly avoid using Roadchef, ever again.

Ignore the cafe and go straight to Costa, coffee always good and great selection of food . Snacks and cakes and biscuits and sandwiches and toasties. Join the club and get freebies.

Called in at service station which intimates people are short of time for a quick stop off. Queued 15 minutes and when asked for breakfast wrap told it would be 15 minute wait. Cancelled food and then had to remind staff that I had not received the cappucino I ordered. When it came it was luke warm. Don't waste your time queueing, two staff, one cook and a service station full of customers is not going to lead to a satisfied outcome.

i attempted to order a salad with jacket potato only to be told it would be a 40 min wait so instaed i cancelled my order and went else where
