Well worth the detour to what seems not to be an island but apparently is. There’s a lifeboat station at the end of the road, open on certain weekends for tours. The ferry was going over to Piel Island but we didn’t have time, just admired the views. Unfortunately the café was closed.

Visited in the quietest month of the year on this quirky but very special island at Barrow. We were welcomed warmly by the stewards on a quiet evening for an meal with drinks, the choice including local cask ales and keg-dispensed beers that are brewed in an annexe on site. The menu included a good choice of meals prepared on site which were of substantial quantity, good quality and excellent value. The boat club has a south-facing outside terrace which will be lovely on a fine day, overlooking Walney Channel and Piel island. Recommended.

I booked a Sunday roast at the Roa Island Boat club, I was lucky to get a table has the club is always busy because of its reputation of being a great venue for a meal. I arrived at the club with my friend and was greeted with a warm smile from the lovely lady at the bar, my friend had forgotten his mask but he was provided with a free mask (a mask is only required in the bar area only) We ordered a Beef roast and a Pork roast, which was delivered to us in a timely manner, the meat was lovely complete with vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and apple / mustard sauces. When ordering you have a choice to go large for an extra £1.00 This isn’t required really as you get a large portion. We enjoyed a lovely Crumble and Orange sponge for desserts. All together a lovely priced treat which didn’t disappoint.

Go to the Roa Island Boating Club for food and drinks. It's an oldy worldy gaff which welcomes non members. You can smell the diesel and seaweed. No frills, but a great terrace to sit out on and watch the ships going in and out of Barrow. Really friendly staff.

A super place if you want to get away from it all. Lifeboat station at the end of the island . Some nice walking just gazing about and a few nice ice cream shops on a nice day and cafes. Just a nice isolated place

Four of us visited Bosun locker Thursday 19th Sept. I had booked it in advance. We got a plate of mixed sandwiches each with a nice mixed salad on the side We then had a plate of mixed cakes each and a warm scone with jam and cream. Tea or coffee. It was absolutely fabulous. How they do it for 8 pounds per person I do not know. We have been to a lot of places for Afternoon tea but this was one of the best and we have often paid twice and up the lakes 3 times as much. The cakes were all fresh and we even brought some home.

Went to gala day on Sunday. The park and ride was a great idea and my Grandaughter enjoyed the bus ride. Lifeboat was great to watch and the coastguard helicopter fly past was good. Worthy cause to spend money on and must be supported.

The island is very remote and unless you lived there you wouldn't have cause to visit unless you were heading over to Piel Island or going to eat at Bosuns Locker. However there are some benches at the end of the road, overlooking the RNLI station and Piel Island which are lovely to sit and watch the world go by. The Lifeboat house is a mean feat of engineering, well worth a look at. There is a small free car park in the village next to a boat yard. If you have time, please stop and have a quick look round.

This was a fabulous little recommendation from a friend. Well worth a visit. We went for Sunday lunch and the food was amazing both in quality and excellent value for money. Very cheap to eat here with a good choice on offer. The drinks are also very cheap with a good selection to wet all appetites. The view of Piel Island is also fantastic. The warm, friendly atmosphere and greeting from staff was lovely and made our afternoon a pleasant one. We will be returning ...Very well recommended - especially the Sunday Lunch.

Buen trabajo Steve!

Today the staff were being instructed loudly about what to do. Unsettling atmosphere. Not what one wants to hear. 2 tables downstairs.
