Wow what a lovely meal we had when we visited. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This is a hidden gem which needs to be shouted about

Amazing 3 course meal on Sunday, portions are great value. Last minute booking but we were fit in for last service at 5 p.m. It was a lovely surprise to find we had the restaurant to ourselves after they had been busy all day. Cath and Skye ( not sure of spelling) were just brilliant, we had a laugh and a joke. Definitely recommend this gem of a place 100% for amazing food and service xx

The frozen pizza was awful and tinned mushrooms on a pizza is just not right ,there is a co op opposite to buy fresh mushrooms !!

All 3 of us enjoyed a thoroughly delicious dinner last Saturday .The food was beautiful & service was 2nd to none.Would defo recommend & looking forward to going back.

A substantial Sunday dinner with plenty of vegetables. Well-presented & delicious. A very good choice of drinks, including non-alcoholic drinks. Service was excellent.

We visited on a Saturday evening and were very impressed with the welcome and level of service we received. There was an ample choice menu and portions were very generous. We did not feel crowded or rushed and there was a very pleasant atmosphere. After what must have been a very trying few months, I wish the restaurant all the best for the future.

Just had dinner here . The food was excellent and the service was faultless . Very friendly and just the right amount of chat . The steak pie was served with picked beetroot a first for me (I am from southern England ) it's was very nice . My gf had the carbonara and was very happy with it . The squid starter was cooked very well and not rubbery at all . This is a no nonsense restaurant that will leave you feeling well cared for and more than happy . Thanks for a great meal.

In opposition to the reviews in here we found the service to be ok but the food to be terrible, albeit edible. The pizza was the low water mark, the carbonara I would’ve apologised for if I served it at home. Good service and good wine. Reasonably priced it the food was up to specifications.

Thanks for the delicious roast we've had for the last 2 weeks. Tried the beef, lamb and both had turkey last week. The sticky toffee pudding and the crumble were also lovely but we were too full to move afterwards. Lucky that no washing up whatsoever was involved. Won't hesitate to have another.

Visited in the evening and I had the chicken wrapped in Parma ham which was delicious. My partner had the sticky ribs with salt and pepper chips. The service was great. Highly recommend coming here.

We had a table booked for 5 last night and our whole party were beyond impressed.My Mam who usually never eats 1 course whenever we eat out, absolutely adored everything she ordered (all 3 courses) as did we all.Would recommend the 10oz steak and the Angus steak burger, perfect chunky chips and of course they do sticky toffee pudding everything was well cooked, staff were lovely and friendly.Very Covid-19 award with appropriate measures in place. We will be returning and give it a big thumbs up!

Visited Hartleys for lunch, it’s probably been about 18 months since we last went but every time we have eaten there we haven’t been disappointed and this was no exception.On arrival we were met by the waitress who was really friendly, a great first impression. It felt very safe with sanitiser dotted around for customers to use, a request for our details and tables positioned to allow social distance rules to be adhered to. All tables with the exception of one were reserved and even the one not reserved ended up being taken, so it had a great buzz about the restaurant.The food was delicious, my husband had the ribs with salt & pepper fries & I had the chicken wrapped in Parma ham in the most gorgeous sauce. The waitress was working on her own but that didn’t prevent the service from being spot on. Everything about our visit was fantastic and I would 100% recommend it.

Fabulous evening once again at Hartleys with a mixture of family and friends making seven of us in total.This pre-planned event ended up being the perfect way to round off a great day which had started with Barrow Soccer’s 7-0 whopping of Ebbsfleet, witnessed by us all.As always, a friendly welcome was received and soon the drinks and wine were flowing and the food ordered.My vegan brother and his fiancée were touched to be offered vegan garlic mushrooms as “guinea pigs” and said they were lovely.Mrs D and i had the special sharing platter of piri piri chicken with tempura vegetables and dips. Very tasty indeed.We sampled a variety of mains from vegan pizza and enchiladas to fabulous salmon, steak, chicken and beef stroganoff dishes. All excellent.I had the egg custard special for dessert which was sublime, while my mate couldn’t resist the rice pudding.We were all amazed when the waitress came rushing out to grab back the vegan dessert as they had accidentally put “normal” cream on it. How many places would have bothered thinking “they will never know”?All in all, fabulous service, excellent food, lovely wine.Rounded the night off with a couple of drinks in The King’s at Hawcoat where the welcome there, too, was as lovely and warm as always.

I have visited this quaint perfectly situated restaurant several times and not once have I ever been disappointed and I dont know why its taken me so long to post a review. upon entering, you're always greeted with a very warm atmosphere and a welcoming smile. your seated promptly and never left waiting, staff here are always friendly and professional but at the same time, making you feel very relaxed and at home with good conversation while taking your order. the food on offer here is top quality that is very fairly priced . there is always plenty to choose from and they cater to all tastes from meat eaters,to veggies and vegans. for anyone looking to book in here I cant recommend Heartleys enough especially for vegans and, im already looking forward to my next visit

Visit frequently , food is delicious , the only down side to our recent visit was the mushroom starter! The diced shallots were crunchy almost raw which didn't sit well with the creamy sauce and the portion was very small. I think this has replaced the garlic mushrooms with a baked cheese topping these were delicious.

Unfortunately only had time for a quick drink before we had a train to catch. Lovely young man welcomed us and served us quickly. Looked like a popular place with lots of original features and character. Menu looked good.

I have had to travel to Barrow for work for the past few weeks and came across this place in Dalton. I have visited it a few time now always mid week and can safely say it is one of the nicest places i have been. My only disappointment was they was not many people in but it was always mid week.They have a good choice of food which is a great price, good size and cooked lovely. Some nice bottle beers and good selection of wines. I have tried the soup, salt and pepper calamari for starters and would suggest the calamari.for mains i have had pizza, pepper steak pasta and rump steak with prawns in garlic butter which was amazing.Always been to full for the puddings but i will come here again and suggest you do.

Went for a date night and the food was gorgeous. I had a pizza and my partner had hunters chicken. The food tasted super fresh and the portions are pretty generous and well presented. It's not cheap but I wouldn't say it was overpriced. The service was prompt, the waiter was a bit *too* chatty and informal for my liking but that's just personal preference (eg. I asked what bottled beers there were and he said 'hmmm I have noooo idea...' and just stood there rather than going to find out.) The one thing I didn't like was how hot the restaurant was, yes it was the middle of July but it was red hot in there. A really good lively atmosphere. I'll be going back!

Another excellent meal at Hartleys.

We popped in here for a light bite at lunch time. There was a nice selection of dishes to choose from, from a light meal or something more substantial. The dishes were nicely cooked and presented. When we are in the area again we will definitely come back and try the evening menu.

Here is my first review lovely food my son had a pizza homemade bases but the staff was clueless they didn’t know about coffees to be fair I think she was clueless full stop but can’t fault the food

Visited Hartley’s to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I did not book a table and were given a friendly welcome and we were soon seated at a table. We both had starters which were excellent, garlic mushrooms, rich and creamy. For our main meal we both had the Stroganoff, one beef, one chicken again excellent and very recommended. The only minor disappointment was the chips, they were too chunky and had skins left on which was not to our personal liking.

Wonderful family meal with my brother & his fiancée, over from Chesterfield, and our son.

Visited here whilst staying with friends in the area. Really surprised with how good the quality of our meals were. Usually, when a restaurant has a menu with a massive choice of options I have found the quality can be mediocre. Not at Hartleys. Each dish was delicious, cooked fresh & served in very generous portions. Baked camembert & garlic mushroom starters got us off to a good start followed by tradional carbonara for my partner whilst I opted for the peppered steak carbonara which was amazing & something I will try & do my best to replicate at home as it was so gud. We had no room for dessert but no doubt these would have been equally as fabulous. Really friendly staff made our first visit a truly enjoyable & memorable one

Didn't expect to find such good food in Dalton on a Wednesday evening. Very nice dinner - we had the salmon and the lamb as mains, generous helpings with loads of very fresh vegetables - the healthy mains were followed by a concoction of pear/sponge/fruit and ice cream called 'poached pear financier'. Good range of wines at reasonable prices many below £20 per bottle.

What better for a hungover Sunday than a Roast Dinner!

Amazing food, friendly service & unassuming decor. I had linguine with chicken, chorizo and asparagus. One of the best pasta dishes I’ve had and I’ve eaten pasta many times in Italy. Wow well done Hartley’s! Lemon posset desert to die for too. Wife had veggie pizza and loved it. Wine fab also and total bill not over-priced.

The food was really fresh and nice, they even had vegan cheese for the pizza. The cocktails were great too and it was all good value.

We were out in dalton and just called in without making a reservation.....A very good choice of restaurant as we both had roast beef with all the trimmings......very very good meal served in a really nice restaurant by professional staff. I would definitely recommend this establishment and we will visit again

Have just arrived home after a birthday meal at Hartley's for my 84 year old mum where she was made to feel incredibly welcome and special by the two waiters and Justin the chef. The food was superb as it always is, I have to recommend the Stroganoff as it's the best I've ever had, and the atmosphere excellent, even the music in the background was perfect.

Fantastic meal for Mother’s Day, food excellent, would like to try all the desserts!! Roast dinner was perfect, fresh vegetables (5 different ones) mash roast and Yorkshire puddings, fantastic value for money and a lovely plant for all the Mother’s was a nice touch, staff front of house were smiling, helpful, attentive and hard working, definitely recommend a visit

Having heard good reports we thought we would give this Dalton eatery a try.

Came here for my Dad’s 80th birthday, large group all having Sunday lunch the food all came out together, the beef melted in your mouth the staff couldn’t do enough and were exceptional. We’ve all been here many times and will continue to do so.

We popped in for lunch today, and I'm so glad we did! I had the special which was fish and chips and a pot of tea for £6, I was surprised at how cheap it was so I was sceptical about the food. Well I shouldn't have been! It was absolutely lovely, crispy batter on flaky fish, good chips, very nice tartar sauce, and good old white bread and butter. I'm very impressed and will definitely be back soon.

I know January is a quiet month but three tables in use at 7:30 8ish on a Friday night is poor. We had to ask for menus after being sat down for five minutes, then ten minutes later ask them if we could order drinks and finally after the meal remind them Wed said Wed like yo look at the desrt menu. Given the number of tables bring used there was no excuse for thus. The waitress was just too interested in chatting in the kitchen. Food was uninspiring for the prices paid. Run of the mill pub food standard. Won't be back and have always enjoyed meals here before

Just had Sunday lunch here 2 adults 2 children,roast was fantastic, fresh, hot and cooked to perfection, good choice of vegetables, nothing too much trouble with regards picky children choices and great value for money, well done front of house and compliments to chef we will be back

This is the 2nd time we have eaten here. We aren't local and we wanted somewhere other than the local pub. This is meant to be fin dining in Dalton!! Nothing like fine dining in Lincolnshire for the price and quality. It didn't start off well, with no Loo roll! Had to go and ask for the drinks at the bar as the service was so slow. The lamb was tough, over cooked and a poor cut. However the chicken was average and the vegetables were very tasty and large portions if you like large portions!! We did however complain and they gave us free desserts. Had to ask for more drinks. Please train your staff if you wish to be a quality restaurant charging those prices. Impressions count especially if you come 4 hours away to eat!

Was highly recommended after staying at a hotel in Dalton. I must say they were not wrong . Could not fault the food, ambience, staff. This little gem would put a 4 star hotel menu to shame . Looking forward to our next visit . Excellent .

Went for birthday meal. Had French onion soup, garlic mushrooms, rump steak and surf n turf. All perfectly cooked. Best food in the area. Go!

We booked Hartley's for mum's 80th Birthday for 14 adults and 5 Great-grandchildren.

My wife and I are on holiday and went out for a meal and it was excellent.... if you live or are near this area please do visit this little restaurant.... food was brilliant and freshly prepared... staff were kind and polite.... prices were reasonable..... all in all cracking little place

Oct 2018. Very disappointed with the quality of the food, booked on recommendation of friends and family. Chips were frozen, some hot, some cold. Diane sauce was a powder mix, arrived with lumps in bottom of jug, however, service was good. Definitely would not recommend and certainty won’t be back.

Relaxed dining with great food and service. Very reasonably priced for the quality. It’s been a while since we last had a chance to dine there but really enjoyed our visit this evening.

We arrived when it looked like the village had closed down. Hartleys stands out with good food and drink choices and great customer service.

On a rare day off together, my husband and I decided to go out for Sunday lunch. It was late in the afternoon, so choices can be limited. Driving through Dalton, we noticed Hartleys was open so gave it a try. It was a choice of one, two, three or three courses and a glass of wine. There was a choice of 5 starters, and 5 mains a nd desserts. We opted for prawn salad and garlic mushrooms with a cheese glaze. Both good size portions and freshly made. We both opted for beef, which came with a varied selection of vegetables. Beef was very tender. Sadly we had no room for dessert. I will definitely return.

Yet another trip to Hartley's and another happy family meal. 3 out of 4 of us are gluten sensitive so the menu is perfect for us. So many of the meals can be made gluten free. 4 very clean plates at the end! My husband and I both had the risotto, me the chicken and he the beef. I tried some of his beef and it was so tender! Delicious flavours throughout. Eldest had the steak and the youngest had nuggets. Then we all had puddings! We ALL enjoyed every last morsel! See you again! Oh and the 'Odd Frog' playlist on Spotify made for excellent listening too.

We saw this little place in our way back to our B and B and decided to give it a try. They had a lovely varied menu, a bit out of the ordinary, and certainly not what we were expecting in this location. The waitress was lovely, and she chatted away as she worked, making everyone feel at ease. I overheard a lady at the next table say “I never want this meal to end-it is so delicious!” We just had starters and deserts, and they were well proportioned and tasty. Well done all!

We were staying in dalton in furness and came across this place on the main street. The food was superb!

I had a lovely, meal with my friend, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and the staff attentive.

Being originally from Dalton but living in Norfolk I was intrigued by this seemingly innocuous restaurant. Visiting family in Dalton we booked a table for Friday night and took the 5 minute walk down Market Street. Close up you can see it’s more than a cafe and is presented well. Inside it’s intimate with approximately 10 tables, but designed in a nice rustic French style. We were warmly welcomed and sat immediately onto comfy chairs. The menu is extensive and they also offer a specials board. I was delighted to find that not all meals came with chips and some creativity had gone into the meals. Check out the menu online. Oh and they do gluten free too. I chose the sea bass which was a special and although it took slightly longer to prepare, it was worth the wait. The meals were presented beautifully and the potion size was excellent. The food was tasty and I really enjoyed it. My fellow diners also enjoyed their meals and we all chose a desert. At £80 for two courses for three, with wine and beer, it was an absolute steal! I really hope this great eatery goes from strength to strength and stays in Dalton for a long time to come. It’s a lovely addition to the town.

A great place for lunch. This is the 2nd time I have eaten here and it is first class. We all had something from the 'specials board' and all three meals were excellent. Probably the best restsurant in Dalton.

If you were just to drive by Hartley's in the main street in Dalton, you might think, as we did, that it looks like a nice little cafe. But once inside, everything changes, and you are in for one of the best dining experiences in Furnes, and thatincludes several much more pricey and fussy establishments.

We stopped by chance in Dalton in Furness and found Hartleys. Glad we did because the food was glorious, exactly as we ordered, piping hot and full of flavour. The waiter could not have been more attentive if he tried. Good value for money too.

Being from out of town it can be a struggle to find somewhere nice to eat. However Hartleys was excellent. We had starters of crostini and French onion soup, both of which were very tasty. For mains we had pizza and gammon, which were also very good. The service and food were outstanding, we would highly recommend this restaurant!

My wife Val and I booked Lunch for mothers Day has usual, in fact we usually go out for Sunday lunch! We decided to book a table for Two at Hartleys Market Street, Dalton¬in¬Furness, comes the big day my wife was full of a cold! No way could she go out like that! I said no worries if we can't go to Hartleys i will see if Hartleys can come to us? I knocked on the the door 10:00am and asked a member of staff if i arrange for a taxi to collect would that be possible to still have a Hartleys. Mothers Day lunch? No worries ! The meal turned up on china Crockery complete with a floral arrangement! I would like to thank the management and staff of Hartleys for preparing a first class meal and a big thank you to Tony the Taxi for getting it to us piping hot ! Many thanks to all concerned

Went for the first time last week after recommendations from family members Everything excellent food service and surroundings couldn’t fault anything

Went here for an evening meal with the intention of ordering from the early bird menu. However the main menu had a much wider selection so ended up ordering from this, very nice food good portion sizes and fair prices.

This may be a little tucked away village on the Cumbrian peninsular, far from the madding crowds, and maybe this is partly why this is such a little gem. It has all the northern warmth and unpretentious atmosphere of a small place together with a big attitude to food. Everything is well presented, just unusual enough to be interesting without being off the planet and the service has a warmth and a kindness not found in ‘your posh places’. We came from Kendal, Barrow and Lancaster to meet in what is fast becoming our favourite little restaurant - well worth the journey.

Had an impromptu tea here with my daughter as husband at work. Had trouble getting a table on a Tuesday at 5.45pm always a good sign. I had the fisherman's pie from the specials and my daughter had the children's lasagne with an ice cream for dessert. The fisherman's pie was excellent but no room for dessert sadly. Wont be leaving it as long to visit next time.

Excellent meal with attentive friendly service in an ambience resembling a french bistro.This was an Impromptu visit after we were unable to try the place for our wedding anniversary a week ago.We booked in time for the early bird but I ended up with the curried chicken breast special served on a spinach and potato salad. It was superb and very healthy.The better half opted for the meat and potato pie with mash and peas which was also very good.We both had the sublime rhubarb and ginger crumble with custard which was a very classy number.We promised the excellent hostess we would be back soon and it will be no trouble in honouring it.A good friend has been telling me about this place for years, why has it fallen on deaf ears til now ? #years of regret !!

This is the only place that was open during the day selling food. Everywhere else nearby didn't open until 5. We were made to feel very welcome. The menu options were good and our lunch is lovely. It's a lovely little quaint place with character which makes you feel welcome. Definitely recommend.

I was impressed with the food,soup was just right, had the lemon sole, it was amazing then the music in the background:louise attaque, zaz, I've heard comptine d'une autre Été, some German songs and in general the atmosphere was pretty much of the best experience this year!

Whent on a Tuesday night as they are closed mondays.one of our party ordered the meat pie or steak and ale .it obviously had been there from at least Sunday may before is was horrible .we complained and the only reply from the staffThe chef appolergised for the meal!!!!!!!!!!! No offer of another meal SO BAD after so many recommendation. NEVER AGAIN

Four of us booked for a lunchtime and I must say the meal was even better and the menu even more varied. Two of us tried the homemade pie and chips and the others the fish and chips, needless to say it was all delightful. The service was very good and the staff very welcoming, prices very reasonable. Next time we will try the evening!

Staff were very friendly and made us welcome. They couldn't do enough to help us. The decor and layout was very pleasant. They were happy to shut the door when we were cold.

Called in for a drink very friendly with a pleasant atmosphere.the restaurant offers a Mediterranean flavour and easily reached by wheelchair ,it also has tables outside,so if you like or want the street scene it can be had.

The food was delicious as usual. However, I seem to remember that there was an 'early bird' deal at tea time, i.e. 5 - 6 pm. This was not apparent on this occasion. Please could you confirm that this is correct?
