Riverside Fish in Arun

I brought a dressed crab from here and ate it straight away sitting next to the river. It was the best crab I have ever eaten! The nice girls that served me knew so much about the local area and where all the fish came from, the crab I had was caught off of selsey the day before then cooked that morning! I went back and brought a range of things include lobster and prawns for dinner that night!

I’m disappointed and sad to post a less than favourable report. I bought a supposedly fresh crab, undressed, last Friday. Even after a drive home lasting several hours, the crab was still half frozen when I prepared it for supper. Whether this was by accident or design, I’ll never know; but if Riverside Fish is selling (previously) frozen crabs, this should made clear to its customers. It’s also worth noting that their prices are higher than other fish retailers in this part of Sussex.

I’ve been using Riverside Fish, in their green weatherboard at the end of the pier in Littlehampton for the past few years and it’s never disappointed. With fresh local fish and Crustacea from Littlehampton fishermen and local markets, and the benefit of Simon, the fishmonger, who knows everything there is to know about preparation and cooking the fruits of the local seas, make this a fishmonger worth visiting. It’s easy to be tempted. Today, I was after a couple of dressed crab. I walked away with the crab, home-smoked salmon (deliciously different), a brace of kippers and a kilo of Norfolk Blue mussels. These were easy to clean (see pic) with not a single dead one, that turned into the best moules à la crème I’ve ever made. In LA and looking for anything from winkles to scallops to delicious local plaice? You can’t go wrong with Riverside Fish.

Travelled to Littlehampton by train, walked along the riverside and called into this place and ordered a tub of whelks and a tub of cockles we both had vinegar and pepper very tasty. This seafood stall is alongside the river towards the the sea front and beach. It does different seafood, lobster, crab, prawns, whelks, wet fish. I think it’s shut Monday & Tuesdays. What we had was nice the dressed crab looked good as well. Price’s reasonable. Hope to go back again. Friendly staff.
