Riverside Diner in Medway

We visited the Riverside Diner on an early Sunday afternoon whilst undertaking a circular walk from Upnor village along the Medway and back. We first noticed the signs for a café after passing through Port Werburgh and Hoo Marina and being just past the halfway stage of the walk decided to stop for a quick drink and a snack. The Riverside Diner has a number of car parking spaces and both inside and outside seating. The café itself is located in a portable building and once inside we thought that it was a hidden gem. When we arrived there were already some tables in use and also a couple reserved. The interior is very light and airy and well maintained and clean. There is a very good selection of food and drink available and at very reasonable prices. We both had a cup of tea and a round of biscuits. The two ladies serving here were very friendly and helpful and overall the café had a very welcoming ambience. There are customer toilets available here with disabled access should you need it. All in all a very welcome surprise on our walk and we would certainly revisit should we pass this way again and unreservedly recommend to others.

Really great, well cooked food in a spotless little cafe in Hoo Marina. We all had varying full English Brunch which was delicious, a good portion, well made mugs of tea, nice toast, and cooked to order at an excellent price! Well done the two lovely ladies cooking and serving. Sadly we were too full for cake or desserts afterwards!

Best English breakfast on the entire peninsular bar none. The food was cooked to order, the eggs were perfect and the fried bread was exactly as I asked for. Amazing value for money and friendly happy staff, Hygiene was 5 star, super clean unlike other local establishments. Brilliant :)

We have the best breakfast here. My father is local and tries to get there 3 times a week, it is an absolute highlight of his week. When I go to stay with him we will always make a breakfast visit. Food is done to perfection, cakes are a perfect take away to have later in the day. All the people who work there are super friendly, and show genuine concern for my father’s health when he is not doing so well. Can’t recommend the food and the people highly enough.

What a cracking little place! Spotlessly, clean, fantastic friendly staff and an absolutely amazingly breakfast. Lovely quality thick bacon, tasty mushrooms and gorgeous seeded toast. I can see me coming back often. Amazing value too! Parking just outside and some outside seating for the summer. Keep up the great work Emma and crew I’ll be telling everyone to pop by! Is it wrong to want eat two breakfasts in one day?? ;)

Full English cooked in minutes, hot tea made how I like it (I am fussy) Cumberland sausage and I changed two things on the menu and nobody moaned or complained :) This is my new place to go, the taggs place I went to before can go do one :)

Only popped in for coffee and toast but staff were so friendly and welcoming. Made a big fuss if our King Charles cavalier. be back for full breakfast

I’ve been to this cafe a few times now, I’m getting the opinion it’s the best around. I’ve tried the breakfasts, the home made dinners and baguettes, it all been takeaway so far, served in foil trays that keep the food good and hot, but that’s normal now. The food itself is excellent, great choice and well cooked, and there’s lots of it, the cakes and bread pudding are something else, big big slices, all made at the cafe rather than bought in, and some I’d never seen before, like the lemon and blueberry - it’s amazing, but it’s pot luck what’s there because they go very quick. The staff are great, polite and friendly, you can ask for what you want and how you want it and that’s what you get, it’s never a problem. The only thing left to mention is the cost, or lack of it, today I got a home made cottage pie, beans, chips and coffee, and change from £7.50, it’s ridiculously cheap, got to be the best value meal going.

For £8.50 per head, the Chicken + either Lamb or Beef on alternative Sundays is unbelievable value, with plenty of veg including a Yorkshire. We drive 5 miles to get this every week, and have been since October 2020 Lockdown. You must book in advance, and pay cash, as margins are no doubt slender. The Staff are a delight, uncertain where threats to persons came from further down this list. Like all Cafes, they are take away only, pre-ordered

First off, the 2 bad reviews are Trolls, sick and sad to see. Local Friendly dinner, very friendly staff, portions are a nice size, and food is fairly priced. currently only doing order and collections following social distancing rules, wearing masks. I will be going back!!!

Staff here are rude, intimidating and do not wear face coverings! I was approached by a very aggressive man this morning who ran down from the Cafe shouted at me and approached me in an aggressive manor, he was stood in my personal space would not let me speak, was very close to me and i was unable to go anywhere as i was as close to my vehicle as i could be, he was NOT wearing a mask or any type of face covering. This staff member was very intimidating, I am pregnant and now feel very concerned about the safety of myself and my unborn child due to this strangers total disregaurd for Government and will be reporting them.

Food is cheep and disgusting as well as being way overpriced! Staff are rude and would avoid at all costs !! Worst cafe I have ever been to.

great cafe style breakfast... really good covid implementation- including the foot operated sanitiser. Staff were lovely, food hot and obviously get a lot of regulars. this place was recommended to me by a neighbour :)

I get pretty much the same breakfast every Friday morning. The service is excellent, the food is hot, cooked quickly and always served with a pleasant smile. The eggs are always cooked properly which is not something you can say for a lot of cafes in the area. They always make my coffee just the way I like it and on the rare occasion I have tea it is perfect. The cakes are Awsome! All baked on-site fresh and with great variation. The Lemon and Blueberry sells out almost as soon as it is put on display. Their baker bakes every day and her sponge cake is simply the best in the country. Could not fault the place if I tried, Everything is made there and then and served quickly and hot. Best cafe in Kent...

Only been dining here for 12+ years. Pretty much the same order each time and I rate the breakfast here the best in the land. Speedy and always the hottest plate and meal. Well Done!

A bit off the beaten path, but a wonderful find. The choice of food here is vast, the only limitation is its popularity for a Sunday Roast Dinner, which you must book in advance as most if not all tables are quickly reserved. There is outdoor seating, ideal for a warm summer's day, but it doesn't boast the most scenic views and it is a little too exposed in winter. Customer service is good, staff are friendly, prices very reasonable, food tasty and the site is spotless. My only criticisms are they use spread rather than butter, and parking is very limited, but this didn't detract from an enjoyable meal, one that I'd gladly repeat.

Great cafe.Alongside your usual breakfast menu they also do homemade specials.i.e currys, cottage pie, chilli ect.Great service, great food and great prices.Give this place a go.Fantastic.

We live nearby and regularly enjoy the delicious meals offered in this friendly Diner. The monthly roast dinners are delicious and so popular you must book well in advance. A great selection of dishes for breakfast , lunch or pop in for tea and homemade cakes. Take a walk along the Saxon Shore Way and try it out for yourself, a real treat.

Same quantity of menu offerings, same friendly staff, same superb value for money, just a new premises a little further along the marina from the old one. No longer accessed through the caravan park you take the next right through the industrial area and you'll see it on your right with parking spaces just further along. These are the only parking spaces, you will be asked to move by the Marina staff if you park anywhere else. Its got central heating now, so its nice and cosy when its a tad chilly and some new outdoor seating for when the sun's out. I always pop in when I'm in the area and its even worth the extra drive when I'm not. Keep up the good work ladies (not forgetting Roger who is always pitching in to help out)!

Today 11 of us cyclists called in for a snack. We had not made a reservation, but our orders were efficiently taken, and not long after the food was delivered.This is a “ cafe” run the way a cafe should be run. It has smiling staff, a good selection of “ typical eats” all made fresh and all coming at a very reasonable price.You can sit inside, or outside ( weather dependent).The bathroom is kept very clean, and has disabled facilities.Can’t really fault the place . Nice staff, good clean ,basic food, delivered at a very fair price.Will most certainly be returning .

I found this little gem of a cafe a couple of weeks ago great food great service nice and friendly. And very clean. Been several times since because the food is good and with reasonable portions

The place was very clean and tidy, the food was a good portion, freshly prepared and tasty. Parking is sufficient and off road and the staff ensure customers park properly and considerately.The food took a while to come, as we arrived just after a group and there were only 2 staff.

Not sure if it's the same folks, but if so they have relocated (slightly ) and upgraded a lot. Brilliant place for a cup of tea and decent nosh when cycling around the Hoo peninsula. Reasonable prices and great selection. Cracking cup of tea!!.

Love this place. Found it a few years ago when taking Grandad to lunch. They advertise in the local village magazine but it still took 3 attempts to find it! There is some signage up now and you basically drive through the Hoo marina residential park and follow the signs from there. There are a few parking spaces just past it and you can park alongside the fence outside. As you walk in there are two blackboards showing the food on offer, from breakfasts, to brunch, a mid morning snack, or lunch, even puddings or an early dinner if you arrive before 3pm as this is when they stop cooking hot food. You can still however order hot drinks and a sandwich or a piece of homemade cake. Prices are extremely reasonable compared to other local cafés.
