Stopped for a coffee after a long walk. Was met with an uninviting lady behind the counter that seemed to take delight in being rude and abrupt. My advise would be go elsewhere, it's not worth going in to get the edge taken off a great day out! It costs nothing to be polite!

We were staying in the local area and were looking forward to having coffee and cake here. Visited on a Thursday afternoon in October ( wasn’t too busy). As soon as I entered, I was told ‘ we are full’. I asked if it was possible to have a take away coffee and the waitress rudely replied ‘ no, I’m not doing take away coffee’. It is a shame as I am a big advocate of supporting independent, local businesses and felt like a nuisance rather than a customer. Avoid.

This café advertises its opening hours as being, 10:30 to 4:00 but this clearly is untrue! After a long drive through appalling Storm Babet we arrived at Kinloch Rannoch at 3:30 and thought we'd have a quick cuppa. On arriving at the Riverbank Café at 3:32 we were told rather grimly by the woman behind the counter that, 'they'd stopped serving' ! Surely it would have taken less than a couple of minutes to put a tea bag in a pot for us, which we would then have consumed well in advance of their 4pm deadline. We'll not being going back, clearly at the Riverbank it's more important to be out of the door at 4:00 than to serve the needs of their customers. Absolutely ghastly !

I'm writing this because I nearly didn't go after reading the other reviews. Think some of these reviews are a bit harsh. Or perhaps there were some off days. Today we were greeted and had to wait for a table. There are plenty of signs alerting you to the fact you might need to wait. There is also a sign clearly stating no takeaways. I suspect this is all to manage the flow and work. It keeps services moving quickly. I say that's fair enough. Know your limits. So, once seated, we had a perfectly good lunch, followed by a few cakes. There was a strange comment when ordering cake - but I think this was done in humour. I bought a few things from around the shop area - lovely local made shortbread and jam. I'm glad we visited - will definitely be back. The cafe runs how the management see fit - if you want takeaway and they don't do takeaway, I think that's fair enough. If there's a local event on and they don't open earlier - surely that's up to them. I was perfectly polite in this cafe and I was treated politely back. Definitely try it.

On an extremely cold morning 14th October there was a 10k race on starting off in the park. Having never been there before I was waiting on my friend to finish and had a little walk around and found this lovely cafe, or so I thought. There were also a few people like me looking for a nice hot coffee/tea as the wait would be be around an hour to finish. The cafe didn't open until 10.30 which I thought the owner would have opened at 10 knowing the race was on also there was a marathon on the very next day. However, when the lady did open there were a few people waiting also. We said we're glad to be in out of the cold she muttered something, if I wasn't so cold I wouldn't have waited for a coffee. I hope she wasn't the owner as this is not the way to act if you want people to come and pay money, hence some people did leave. We did say to her nicely do you know that there is a marathon on the next day to which she responded, 'I'm fully aware of what is going on'. This is definitely not the way to attract customers and I would be employing someone which a more cheeful manner!

Staying nearby, we popped in mid-morning for a late breakfast and coffee. Almost felt as though we’d inconvenienced them by walking through the door even though the was otherwise empty. Waitress was perfunctory, no pleasantries. Food was acceptable although not the best, given the price. Waitress did perk up as we paid the bill! Not a place we’d return to which is a massive shame given the beautiful surrounding area.

Full marks to this place on careful and thoughtful measures to keep things safe. Middling marks for the coffee - but that's personal taste, and it's a darn sight better than you'd get in a Starbucks. Thankfully Kinloch Rannoch doesn't have a chain cafe, and the only other potential spot for coffee, a hotel across the road, won't serve non-residents. Cakes looked good, savouries available too. Take-away only and reduced hours in the current situation.

We also got to enjoy the beautiful sunshine as we sat on the perfectly placed public picnic bench opposite (which could not be more useful, as due to Covid restrictions, we were understandably unable to eat inside). We enjoyed it so much that we returned today as we cycled around the Loch. My husband enjoyed a beautiful bacon roll whilst I tried a beautiful fresh scone/jam and the boys defaulted back to the aero traybake! Fresh produce, tasty and excellent, friendly service. They have also clearly worked hard to abide by the government Covid restrictions. If ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, I would highly recommend a little pit stop at this cafe. Nice little touch to a scone with jam, the scone was served warm. Some lovely little gifts on sale.

Four of us arrived for a late lunch having cycled from Pitlochry via Calvine and in need of sustenance. We ordered soup, egg rolls, a toastie and a pot of tea. All arrived promptly, the soup clearly made on the premisis. Extra water was available for the tea and the eggs were well cooked. A bit of butter on the roll would have been good however. The cafewas warm and welcoming on a rather cool day on the road. It seems to have pleanty custom which is good as it should be there next time I cycle past.

Stopped in with our 10month old golden doodle. Despite being close to closing place was busy and we were warmly welcomed. Plenty of space round the tables to accommodate our dog whilst we had some lovely homemade soup and bread. Grabbed some coffee and cakes to go after and whole bill came in very reasonably at just over £20.

We can’t recommend this place highly enough! The service was so so friendly - even bringing our doggy a bowl of water on arrival We felt so welcomed as a family of 6, 16 and 30somethings. So many nice little touches including gifts to buy. It was warm and spotlessly clean and allowed plenty of room between tables for you if you bring your doggy. Soup was amazing. In fact all the food was so good we bought jams and shortbread on our way out (!)

Almost 5 pounds for a cappuccino for which no order has been taken at first, for which you then have to wait more than 20 minutes, with a spoon and sugar missing and, as a highlight, a 10% service fee appears on the bill? As beautiful as it is in Gleneagles - unfortunately we didn't like it at all...

Went for lunch yesterday with my parents and dog on arrival our table was clearly marked ours and there was already a bowl of water awaiting my dog I thought this was super sweet and thoughtful, the waitress we had was brilliant with my wee Jack Russell she gave him a few biscuits and attention he loved it. Service was quick and the food as always was delicious. Lovely warm welcoming place to eat out and we always choose here when we go for lunch. Great menu lots of choice.

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.

I give up, I really do. Have stopped using the restaurant because the food is pretty poor and the staff are surly at best. This morning I wanted to purchase a food item which they have stocked for years. First young girl I asked couldn't understand what I was asking for, second one said they didn't stock it although she has served me in the past and the third one said it had sold out but they might be getting some in in a couple of weeks. Several other local people have mentioned how rude the staff were. Hospitable is not a word you can use for this place and yet years ago it used to be good on all counts.
