Riva Bar & Restaurant in Trafford

Another fantastic meal at Riva. The fish specials are a must although I’m always drawn to the fish and chips , never fails -so fresh . The new wine list has some excellent choices . Thank you to Aneta and Lindsey for looking after us as usual, I think probably now the only independent restaurant in the area. Will be back soon.

Price for the 2 course lunch menu on the outside board different to inside menu, price for wine ordered price more expensive on bill than menu and no mention a 10% Service charge would be added, ended up paying £8 more for the lunch

We visited for a couple of cocktails during the day which were nice. We then came back in the evening for dinner. My other half had halloumi from the snack menu to start and I had the heritage tomatoes - both were really tasty. For mains my other half had a fish dish and I had another starter (chicken soup) as I wasn’t that hungry, again both were very nice. Service was great and all staffs were friendly. We’re not from the area, we were stopping nearby at the Marriott where we usually eat, but we decided to try somewhere new this time. We’ll be back ahead of our next trip!

Came here for a spot of lunch. Menu varied and some exciting sounding dishes ! I went for the club sandwich and wife had the mackerel sandwich. Very very tasty and filling !! Can’t fault the service nice pleasant staff and atmosphere. Highly recommended !

I booked a large table (of 28!) for a birthday celebration. Lindsey was extremely helpful, communicative & accommodating along the planning and even with last minute changes with people cancelling/changing orders. Was so impressed on the night with great service and delicious food. The venue was also really nice and perfect for a special celebration. Thank you Riva!

We had a Wonderful experience at Riva last Friday night. We enjoyed some Beautiful Wines & a fab dinner and the Team were great. We went for a selection of nibbles for our starters, Halloumi Fries with chilli jam, rustic bread with olive oil & balsamic & olives and hummus and they were all great. I chose the Pan Roast French Trim Chicken with greens, fondant potato & red wine jus. The Chicken was beautiful and moist, the fondant potato was probably the best I have had, crispy on the outer & fluffy in the middle and I could have drank the red wine jus it was that tasty! Mrs K had Roasted squash & wild mushroom strudle & thoroughly enjoyed it. Our friends had the 8oz Riva Burger and loved it although it is quite a size and the Hake which was on the specials board and again beautifully cooked by the Head Chef Daniel. The wine list is extensive but after chatting with Simon we ordered Baron de Baussac Viognier and Languedoc-Roussilon and they were divine. I know when you go to a Restaurant you expect great food which we certainly received but I have to say that the service and whole experience was fantastic. The Team were very attentive but also warm and friendly and their care factor was exemplary. It's great to support a local Business but it is made an awful lot easier when you have such an amazing experience. We will certainly be back!

We've visited Riva on a number of occasions over recent years, and our son still raves about a Sunday lunch we enjoyed there a while ago. Our latest visit was as enjoyable as ever, with 6 superb plates of food served. My particular favourite was the heritage tomatoes with burrata: theoretically simple, but such complex flavours! We were served in a relaxed but professional way by Jacob, and as others have commented, everyone you interact with is cheerful and friendly. Overall, a lovely experience, and one we will hope to repeat soon.

WOW! We’ve been coming here many years and have got to know how hard the owners (Lindsay and Simon) work at giving good service. This has Always been achieved. However, last night was absolutely exceptional. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was splendid. My wife and I Shared the lobster risotto (big enough for 2 and not expensive) which was delicious and loaded with lobster. Our dining partners had Scallops and chilli prawns which they also raved about. Then for mains we had 2 Lamb Henry’s, which was The Best I’ve ever tasted while my wife had a perfectly cooked lamb rump in a delicious jus accompanied by a host of vegetables (included in price). Our companions had the duck breast which also got a big thumbs up! This place deserves its high position on Trip Advisor because they earn it. Top Notch

We booked a private room for my friend’s proposal. Lindsey was beyond helpful from start to finish. Allowed us to view the room before and was so kind in helping to keep this a surprise on the day. All the staff we so friendly and helpful, couldn’t have asked for better experience! They also made a congratulations plate for them. Definitely a day to remember- thank you so much!

I booked this place mostly based on the existing reviews and photos. This was my first visit here and everything from booking to the meal itself was perfect. I'd read some mixed information about it being dog-friendly, so when I booked through Opentable, I enquired and they replied right away confirming it was dog friendly, and they made sure I got booked onto a dog-friendly table at the front. Even though our table was next to the front door, there's a heavy glass passageway that we were pleasantly surprised to learn blocks any breeze from people opening and closing the door. All the staff we had contact with were impeccable, our waitress was lovely and attentive without being overbearing, literally perfect. For starters we had the Lamb Croquettes and Fish Cakes, both were a decent portion, plated beautifully and the lamb was wonderful. For mains I had the beef Wellington and my partner had a special of steak and eggs with chips. The steak was cooked mid-rare as asked, and had a lovely smoky char. My beef wellington contained the most soft, succulent beef I think I've ever had, and again was plated very artistically. The carrot puree was incredibly smooth. Unfortunately, I completely over-faced myself by ordering whilst hungry, and didn't get to finish my truffle and parmesan fries, but they were nice. I had a couple of French martinis and my partner tried a Delamere forest cocktail. We then forced a couple of desserts into us, I had some ice cream and my partner had a sticky toffee. I want to go back as soon as possible to try more menu items, honestly the best food experience I've had in a long time. Please give yourselves a pat on the back for your brilliant hospitality!

Amazing food and service. Liz, who was our waitress, was fantastic. She is such a lovely bubbly person who works so hard. She is an asset to the restaurant. The food was outstanding, and our food was the best we had dining out in a long time.

I moved to Hale recently and been here a few times with friends and also my parents. The restaurant and staff are lovely. Very friendly and welcoming. The decor is cosy and sparkly and the music is not too loud. You can enjoy it and still have a proper conversation. There is a good selection of meat and fish with various vegetables and the cauliflower cheese soup was delicious. In fact I have only had great food here.

We managed to take advantage of the private dining area upstairs for a surprise Baby Shower this afternoon, and it was fantastic! The food, service, team and overall experience were exceptional - thank you so much to Simon, Lindsey, Liz and the team for looking after us all. Liz in particular made sure we had photos taken as a group & in general was very attentive. It was like walking into an extended family home with such a friendly welcome which continued all afternoon. Thank you Team Riva :)

The best food in Hale. This is the second time I have visited Riva and I was just as impressed the second time, if not more impressed! We went last night (Thursday evening) and they had a singer on who was unbelievable! The food was amazing, our party opted for the snack board to start followed by beef Wellington, steak pie, fish and chips and the fillet steak and everyone said the food was 10/10. We were served by a lovely gentlemen who I assume was the owner.. whose service was incredible. If you want something different from the many Italians or Indians in Hale and want some real quality food, go to Riva!!

Saturday night dinner was brilliant all round. We were welcomed by the staff and seated in a great table by the window. We enjoyed prawns as a shared starter and both ordered beef wellington for mains. The beef wellington was perfect. A great experience with drinks, food and service all excellent. Thanks to the team at Riva.

Every month or so my wife and I drive an hour to visit Riva. Every time we go I have the beef Wellington. Up to now this is one of the best things I’ve eaten. I must have had it 8-10 times now. It’s always been faultless. Unfortunately, tonight was a letdown. My Wellington was over overcooked and half it’s normal size. I was asked how it was and I feedback that it wasn’t what I was used to. Later on I was approached by a man in a shirt, who I later found out was called Simon, one of the owners. Simon confronted me about my feedback. When I explained he said ‘oh sorry about that’ and walked off. I was asked a 3rd time how my food was. After explaining again and finding out who the mystery man was, nothing was done to rectify. It’s a real shame as I appreciate everyone can have an off night, but you would really expect an offer of something to make up for a bad meal. We paid our bill and service charge and we went down the road for desert and another drink. I honestly think Simon is best leaving the customer interactions to someone else. I’ll probably risk it again in the future, maybe on Simon’s day off.

There was nothing really exceptional about our Sunday Lunch here…….and I have enjoyed better food in my local pub for a fraction of the cost. The roast potatoes were actually so hard, they were inedible. The vegetables were also a bit tasteless and ‘mushy’….mashed swede, red cabbage and a handful of greens. The beef was quite tender, but had a large border of fat. Staff were friendly and initially attentive, but then seemed to get a bit bored by the time it came to desert. There are obviously some regular customers, but it was a bit worrying to watch one young waitress pick up and pet a customer’s dog before carrying on with her duties without washing her hands! We did, however, enjoy our final drinks in the tiny outside seating area watching the world go by - and the weather was glorious.

Can only add to the chorus of positive reviews - excellent food, atmosphere and service in a beautiful venue. Such a lovely place to spend an evening with good friends.

I have been twice now and the staff were extremely rude, dismissive and not attentive at all. One lady rolled her eyes when we asked how long and shook her head (after waiting 45 minutes just for bread as the starter). My friends have told me that their experience was great when the owner was there but the staff solely without him were just awful.

Nothing is too much trouble and a really warm welcome awaits at this stylish eaterie. The food is absolutely amazing with many of the dishes prompting "We have to try and make this at home" comments. Big mention to the curried sweet potatoe soup. If we were local, this would become a regular choice for us for sure. Five star experience all round!

After reading the reviews for Riva, we decided to book a table and we weren’t disappointed. First of all, the atmosphere was warm and inviting as soon as you entered. The staff, each and every staff member we interacted with were amazing. So friendly, attentive and just made the whole experience amazing. Then the food, what we can only describe as perfection. We had staters, mains and desserts - and we couldn’t find fault with any of it. Delicious! We highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. Outstanding all round experience.
