I visited cafe riva during the Bournemouth Airshow and wanted an ice cream at the ice cream hut and was met with an employee not wearing any gloves as they handled my ice cream . I ordered the vegan ice cream as I am dairy intolerant however I saw the customer in front of me order the chocolate ice cream and the employee used the same scooper for my ice cream which defeats the purpose entirely. In addition to after purchasing my ice cream I looked back to see the employee lick their fingers !! Absolutely disgusting behaviour would never buy an ice cream from cafe riva again ruined my experience completely .

I have visited Cafe Riva three times in as many years and can safely say I have never had a good experience here. I am unsure what the appeal of this place is other than the sea view. We all sat at a table and made it clear we were eating/drinking in. When ordering drinks, they appeared in takeaway cups. I then said we were eating in, this was met with a bit of frustration from members of staff. Drinks were then poured into a mug. Staff have zero personality which makes for an awful experience. Facilities are run down. Food and drinks are expensive.

Visited her with an elderly friend..ordered the Scampi which when came was so overcooked and hard it was impossible for my elderly friend to eat..I had the Mac &Cheese which is advertised as Homemade..!!!.it was awful...a bowl of pasta with melted cheese ...and at a charge of £8.50!!!!.No taste and very bland..hardly homemade in my opinion...I'd of complained but My elderly companion did not want a fuss made No worth the money ...go elsewhere .

Breakfast was ok, a bit greasy compared to others recently tried Coffee was good but the service is a bit slow if your in a hurry but that’s a personal opinion

Popped in for breakfast on a lovely morning. Fried eggs were hard, bacon had obviously been hanging around a long time as had the baked beans. On the plus side, it came with fresh toast and butter. Catering for masses and charging top dollar, taking the p*ss in other words. The plates were ridiculously small as well. It could have been a great experience if the food had been freshly cooked. A better view than your local Wetherspoons but unbelievably lower quality and 4 times the price. A sad reflection on such a beautiful area. Clearly no pride in the delivery of their product.

This beautiful location deserves more. The staff at Riva are curt and completely uninterested. Whatever you order you get the very basic, i.e. a toasted sandwich comes without any garnish or crips. Delivered to your table without any cutlery or napkins. No offer of any condiments. We will find somewhere else next time.

I went with my friends to get an ice cream from the ice cream kiosk but the tall lady was very rude and gave me ridiculously small portion sizes. The ice cream was nice but the service completely ruined it.

I am from a hospitality background, therefore really cannot understand why somewhere that is in a prime spot and is very, very popular just doesn't seem to sort staff problems out. There was massive queue at least 5 girls behind the bar one on till. Anything alcoholic ordered - eg lady before me with a shandy seemed to cause complete confusion. 'Oh wait' girl goes up to bar to ask other girl about a shandy, comes back, completely confused, wait, wait. Queue gets longer after about 5 minutes woman gets served. Other three staff just stood around. Me ordered a Pimms - after waiting ten minutes in queue and seen there was a bottle of it behind bar. Girl ' Oh' shouts to other girl 'Pimms, Pimms' Girl never answers so she goes down there. Other girl ' Oh you can't order Pimms from here you have to get it from outdoor bar.' Where there is a really, really wrong queue and I've already been in one. Me 'Why?' 'We're not trained to do it?' "Do what?" "Put the stuff in" I said what you can't pour a measure of Pimms and add lemonade Her 'No its the other stuff' What the cucumber and strawberries. Her 'Yes' Me 'Are you being serious? ' Her 'Yes we haven't been trained to put it in.' You seriously could not make it up

This place needs to be taken over. It has the potential to be a really great place with the location it has but unfortunately we have always been disappointed. £20 for 2 orange juices and 2 bacon sandwiches. The bacon used was fatty and under cooked and no one surly likes uncooked fat on bacon…. There were only 1 and 1/2 slices of bacon in each sandwich. Now that’s just shocking for the price of it… 3 rashes of bacon 🥓 is what it should be. Shocking and given up on this place. Much better nearby

The attitude of the staff…. Wow. The lady with the short hair was huffing and puffing behind the counter and when the man infront of me ordered an oat cappuccino her exact words “really? can’t you choose something more simple…” then she came round and pushed us out of the way and instead of saying excuse me she said “food needs to be served regardless please move you can wait for your drinks” I mean I work in hospitality but I would NEVER speak to my customers like that! Nor have that attitude. So rude. We waited for a good 10 mins to order coffees that came out of a machine with a button… slow and rude. Sorry won’t be back and will be passing comments on to everyone I know of how bad the attitudes were!!

4 of us went for a late breakfast. The food was lovely but my parents food arrived a good 15 minutes before ours. So they had finished their breakfast before ours had even arrived. We appreciate they have a small kitchen but there was no apology and it isn’t the first time this has happened to us. It spoils the experience, as you all want to be eating at the same time. I would have scored much more highly if our food had arrived all at once.

Staff bere are so welcoming and friendly. One member of staff even wrote down , and drew a map, of a place to walk that she recommended..thank you, we had a lovely walk at old harry rocks. Lovely sitting outside, with fabulous views.

My very close friends hired out this venue for a their wedding reception and it was absolutely lovely. Luck would have it, it was the hottest day of the year so far, so the locations was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful and drink prices very reasonable. The food was fab and spot on for the weather. Everybody seemed to enjoy it very much, and the quality was super. There was salmon, meat selection, Mediterranean grilled veg, salad, bruschetta (my favourite) and pizza. Most people had two helpings! If I were to want a place to hire out in the future, this would be in the running for sure.

Looking at the menu we both decided on Macaroni Cheese followed by Mocha coffee.We had to wait a little while, but that was not a problem. When the Macaroni Cheese arrived it was hot and so tasty, one of but I have ever had.Must have another one when next in the area.

I Have been here many times because the view is unsurpassed. Every time I vow never to waste my money on poorly prepared, over priced food served by disinterested staff with no idea of friendliness or service. Today I have finally decided I will make a coffee in a mug and drink it on the free benches and enjoy the view without being irritated by all the things that could be improved.

It's the best "build your own" breakfast for miles around. You select exactly what you want: no more and no less. Occasionally it gets packed though. I guess you have to take your chance.

I have been in here a few times since my last review, but as some reviewers are frequent reviewers of the same places I thought I would add a new review as my last visits have not been as good.

We went for a lunch with our three year old granddaughter and decided to do a quick round of crazy golf. For the cost of £6.00 for one adult and a child, we were extremely disappointed at the level of maintenance, a coat of paint is long overdue! Until it is renovated why not just charge the deposit for the clubs and ball......this is just a rip off. I did comment to the staff who said they would pass this on... i am not holding my breath!

If you're susceptible to things, you might feel it. Either the staff have an unfriendly boss, or the high separation counter area between staff and customers fosters an "us and them" approach? Who knows, but I'm never comfortable here. I think the place imagines it is far more than it is.

For a great wedding day every piece of the Jig saw has to fall into place. Cafe Riva was a huge piece and it could not have been better. As ever its the people who are key and from the planning meetings with Becky to leaving all the decorations for the staff to dress the venue there was not anything they could or would not do. Everyone mentioned how good the food was and the bar staff worked tirelessly and really added to a great atmosphere. A huge thank you from us for making our wedding reception perfect.

Had full English breakfast here on Saturday morning. Food was plentiful, tasted great and was served hot. Very friendly staff. Was so good we went back again on Monday morning....!!! They also have a good selection of cakes and hot/cold drinks. Definitely one to try.
