Called in yesterday (sat) had a lovely greeting from the staff,made to feel very welcome on a wet sat afternoon,great fish and chips ,lovely fresh decor,and a fantastic welcome,will be back soon,

Lovely fish and chips served by Jon who was great so friendly and helpful. Restaurant nicely refurbished and prices reasonable, a very enjoyable experience, not my first time there and certainly not my last

Friendly staff but good not a patch on previous owners. The fish and chips were not up to scratch. Shame as this has always been our preferred chippy in Brixham.

After years of not using this restaurant was reluctant to try after being taken over by new owners but could not have been more impressed the chips were cooked to perfection along with rest of food and could not be more accommodating

I like others saw the programme so thought we would try it . Glad I did a very nice young man called John gave excellent customer service . We had large cod and chips and I can honestly say they were the best we have had in a long while. Would definitely return and recommend.

After seeing the place on fish town series a couple of years ago, thought it would be worth to try. Let’s just say we wasn’t disappointed at all! The best fish and chips we have had in a long time! The fish was thick, the batter was cooked perfect and the chips was amazing too! The service was amazing! Definitely will be going back again next year! Nice characters running the place, made you feel welcome!

Came on holiday to Brixham with my husband, we really fancied fish and chips and past a lovely restaurant called rios. We looked at the opening times and had just missed the 3pm close so decided to go back at 5 when it reopened. On arriving at 5, we were told they had just shut due to staff shortages. Very disappointed we walked down the road to be followed by a lovely lad called John, who must have felt sorry for us and said he would stay open just for us if we wanted to go back. We were so pleased and the meal was gorgeous, never seen fish so white, cooked to perfection. What a lovely pleasent person John was couldn't do enough for us, left extremely full and happy. Would definitely recommend

Lovely little place! Fun, bright decor, Rio’s is a hidden gem just off the Main Street. Takeaway and also a small seating area. Fresh fish and chips with friendly service. Fish batter was lovely and crispy and chips were not greasy either. No need to pay the crazy prices on the sea front for a delicious British classic. Nut free menu which is great for us with allergies! ☝🏽 Good dine-in prices.

For any visitor to Brixham who wants to enjoy fish and chips at their best the best advice I can offer is to walk about 500 metres from the harbour side, into Pump Street. Find Rio's Fish Bar. Brilliant welcome, ten minutes from order to serving and when my cod and chips came it was piping hot from start to finish. This small friendly plaice deserves all of the business it can get.

OAP special chips were ALL the bits you throw away hard an cold waited a long time to be served by a rude woman fish was watery tasteless and so thin you could see through it you got a teaspoon of mushy pease batter was thick and soggy they were not very busy and they were incredibly slow my partner had large fish and chips and they were the same but bigger I would have given minus stars if possible there are many chip shops please pick another they are mean customer service is very poor and the main thing the food is terrible

Went with our 2 young boys for quick, delicious and friendly lunch. Cod was excellent and everyone enjoyed their choices - the boys rated the chips very highly. Quirky and interesting decor too, with helpful and attentive service. Recommended.

We have been staying in Brixham for a week and today was our second visit to Rio’s! We had takeaway chips the first night and ate them over by the harbour and they were great! Tonight we ate in at the restaurant and yes it is small but it’s quirky and an old building but Martine greeted us and brought menus out promptly. Our order was taken and our food arrived fresh and very hot! It was the best Fish and Chips I have had and my daughter(9)enjoyed the chicken chunks too! If you get the chance to go then do it, you won’t find better chips around…..

I am a fan of the program Fish Town so when I visited Brixham at the weekend I had to find the Rio Fish Restaurant, the oldest Fish and chip shop in England. Steve and Bridgette who really is as beautiful in real life as she is in the show were excellent to meet as was the young lady who served us and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. We would definitely eat there again if we went to the area.

My family and I went to this awful establishment and were very disappointed. The customer service was disgusting by the waitress. I would avoid this horrendous restaurant and find somewhere else.

My family and I visited this establishment on 11th August 2021. What an absolute DISGRACE!!! The waitress was unwelcoming and very very rude. She needs to seriously consider how she treats her customers in the future. Upon arrival we were greeted with ‘you will have to find your own table, not sure we can seat six of you’. Her manner was unpleasant and abrupt. We tried to order drinks to the value of £15-£20 and was then abruptly informed that we could only order drinks if we were also purchasing food. As we had already eaten lunch, we were just looking for a drink. It states no where on the premises that drinks and food have to be purchased. We thought that we had just been unlucky with our experience however, after reading the reviews we can now see that whoever this waitress is clearly has a severe problem with her waitressing skills and etiquette. We wish the owner the very best of luck as we can only see this kind of attitude negatively affecting a business. Wouldn’t recommend!!!!

My family and I visited South Devon and during our holiday we visited Brixham on 11th August 2021. We had a delicious picnic for lunch on the beach. After we had finished on the beach we decided to have a nice walk around the town and grab a warm drink. We saw this establishment and on the notice board they had a rather nice drinks menu. We had barely entered the restaurant and my son asked for a table for 6. The waitress said that they only do tables for 4 and if we wanted to sit together we would have to push two tables together ourselves. She spoke in a very abrupt and unwelcoming way. She came to take the order having slapped cutlery on our makeshift table. We informed her we only wanted to order drinks and there was no where in the restaurant or on the menu that said we had to order food to order drinks. There were a few other people in the restaurant and when she virtually threw us out it was extremely embarrassing. If you are ever fortunate enough to visit the beautiful Brixham, please avoid this establishment!!

Shockingly terrible, miserable women who served us, should of known by not seeing any food in the overhead fryer, microwave pinging, that would be our dreadful cheese and onion pasty and the chips and battered sausage were barely warm, gravy like water, ended up chucking it away

the fish chips and mushy peas were very nice, the only complaint is i dont think the large fish is ordered was large, to me it looked the same size as the medium. the place is a little cramped but we were there for a short stay not a long dining experience, service was good, you had to ask for a key to go to the loo, real chips served .still it was a unique place to have fish and chips , you can have takeaway if you want.yes they were good, but i would still try somewhere else if i went again because i like to.

Really good batter in our haddock which was very fresh. Chips succulent. Best fish and chips we’ve had for a long time. Tea was also well brewed and served with a smile. The owners take great pride in their work. Outstanding.

I rarely take to tripadvisor to write a review, only if it’s 5* or no stars do I bother. This is sadly minus stars. It’s so bad, I can’t even find the words. Pie was cold in the middle, but even hot it would have been dreadful. Chips were so disgusting my kids refused to eat them (and they’ll eat any chips usually), Burger and sausage were the cheapest meat you could imagine - think processed meat that is probably banned in schools. I feel robbed of my hard earned cash and annoyed that I ended up having to dash to the shop to cook for the family after all. Please don’t give this place your custom.

Popped in here as needed to grab a bite to eat and when by the seaside fish & chips is always a winner, sadly not this time.I can appreciate that we all have off days and I can also imagine that the last month has been particularly tough for hospitality staff - however, I do think the lady of the establishment could use a little finesse with her customer service. Asking customers if they have sanitised their hands is a little patronising, however better safe than sorry I guess. Interrupting the meal to give a form to complete for track and trace is a little crass. Interrupting again so other customers can use the same pen is poor planning and rude.Let's move away from the service and onto the food, which is far more important. The food was freshly cooked which is always a bonus and to be praised, although the portion size of the fish was on the smaller side than average. The chips were basic, nothing special but fairly inoffensive. Decor of the restaurant has a nice little theme and i am sure kids would love the sharks hanging from the ceiling, tables and chairs seemed quite clean. Antibacterial wash appeared to be chained to an upturned stool, which was odd - maybe the restaurant has suffered from thefts before. Whilst eating it is possible to hear the entire conversation coming from the kitchen - which in a small environment cannot be helped but can lead to some unpleasant overheard topics of a sensitive nature.In summary. The food was average and a little lacklustre and the service was not top drawer today. I would not choose to dine there again.

We ate here as a family of 3 whilst on holiday this year. The restaurant is quirky and a welcome throwback to years ago when families ran this type of business. The service was spot on. Nice to see real attention to the Covid situation with ensuring hands are sanitised. The food was cooked fresh so it was piping hot and the portions were good. The place was spotless. A proper old fashioned small restaurant on the back of a chip shop.

We had cod and it is the best we have had. All cooked fresh to order. We returned later in the week it was so good. The service is excellent and we would highly recommend.

Called in on the off chance and were given a table straight away. We had cod and chips and, haddock and chips. Both were cooked well and tasty. The restaurant was not part of the eat out to help out scheme, which probably explains why it wasn't so busy, although the takeaway was doing a roaring trade.

Went for a day trip today to Brixham and had a family munch at Rio, Fish so fresh along with the chips, very friendly staff great food throughout. Would recommend to anybody !!!

A friendly welcome, and a very welcome fish and chip supper. Brixhams oldest fish and chip restaurant in the heart of the town, set just off the port next to Lloyd's bank. Brixham is awash with eye catching restaurants and eateries however, this gem sits quietly back as the throngs of visitors tour the streets. Make this your journeys end. The fresh fish and hand cut chips delivered piping hot to your table. Excellent.

We had the best Fish & Chips in a long time at the Rio Fish Restaurant, it was school half term holidays and very busy, but managed to get a table. The food was fantastic and even though it was busy very clean and great customer service, well done. Highly recommended and will certainly return when in the area.

This was recommended to me by a friend, and from a good quality pointy of view was fantastic. However, expect to pay premium prices, for what is basically just good fish and chips. Eating in it's £12 for cod and chips, no bread and butter, no mushy peas, no salad - they're extra. A cup of watery, weak coffee is £2. Considering we were the only people dining there at the time we felt really rushed, with finished plates being cleared before we had all finished eating. I get that's the practice in some countries, but not on the UK. The surly and unfriendly nature of the waitress also did not positively contribute to the dining experience. I wouldn't go there again, there are plenty of other fish and chip restaurants in Brixham.

Just back from Brixham, just wanted to review this hidden gem.First impressions were it's very clean the owners clearly ensure their establishment is presented to very high standards.The fish and chips, we had take away however they were fabulous. The chips were beautiful, freshly cooked and tasted great. The fish well were do I start, it was fantastic, best fish I have eaten in a long time. The fish and chips were excellent. The staff were very attentive, very polite and cheerful.Overall my experience was 1st class, a clean environment, high quality product, with very high standards of customer service.Just wish we found this place earlier in our stay to Brixham we would have enjoyed a visit to the restaurant.A hidden gem, very very highly recommended

We expected so much more, the fish was excessively greasey, the chips were unappetizing and the service was poor with the waitress totally unattentive.

The Trip Advisor sign said this place was a winner, sadly not, also a notice mentioned fresh potatoes to make their chips every day. Five of us ate here for just under £40.00My son ordered the special which was a sea food medley for £8.50, consisting of Scallops, chunky white fish, Scampi, Prawns.This was promptly returned as the batter was burnt and the prawns especially were burnt, dry and shrivelled up, personally I would not have put it on a plate, the best place for it was the bin.The waitress told the guy who cooked it and he seemed flabbergasted, he informed us he buys it in and it always goes that colour!Why does a fish and chip shop within a two minute walk from the sea but this frozen rubbish in?I ordered two pineapple fritters and the batter was so thin it barely stuck to the pineapple and was as greasy as the rest! The chips to all five dishes were disgusting, small, crispy and greasy. The oil they were cooked in tasted like it had been lubricating the big ends on the Titanic.Although my sons meal was swapped for a burger we wouldn’t eat here again.

On a busy sunny day we looked around this very busy yachting haven and found a little fish restaurant just off a major route round the town. It was considered that a wheelchair user may have some problems getting into and finding a place in the restaurant, however the adjacent takeaway would not be a problem,

Our first time in Brixham we thought to try the fish and chips in the are so we went in as groups our 2 boys age 10 and 11years old thought we are sitting in to eat so they went and sit in the restaurant area and waited, while we ordered takeaway, they were chase out loudly and unkindly by a female staff saying they should not be sitting in the restaurant , the restaurant has barely people in, the other customer looked at us and shook their heads. I feel like cancelling the takeaway order but hold it in. I even heard the female staff talking to another staff who took my payment in the takeaway area against us.

We could not fault our visit one bit. The service was perfect from the moment we walked in and the food was the best fish and chips we have ever had. Would recomend to anyone wanting easy friendly service and fantastic food. We will be visiting again and again!
