Friendly local pub with darts and regulars and good service. There are not many tables for eating at but we were comfortable there. I had liver and bacon with mash and vegetables and wife had steak and ale pie with vegetables and nice chips. The food was good. With a soft drink and a good pint the bill came to £35.00.

This is a cracking pub - more "pubby" than other places. Beer is great - I'm currently enjoying a pint of Utopian, and ate in here yesterday evening and the food was great - good, honest, decent pub food. Staff are friendly- would definitely recommend.

I visited this pub five years ago and it always stuck in my memory as a really great place, full of character, charm and great food. Visited again this week and whilst the food remained delicious, I was sad to see the interior character had been diminished. The traditional dark oak tables and chairs have been replaced with stark modern alternatives, and the lovely carpet has been replaced by wood-effect lino. Little changes, yes, but enough to somehow drain the warmth and character out of this wonderful old pub. These are not irreversible changes and I would gently appeal to the management to consider restoring it to how it was just a few years ago (and indeed still is in the photos on their website!). Otherwise I would like to compliment the pub for an excellent lunch and friendly service.

We stayed for an overnight stay whilst visiting Exeter University, so glad we came here. Lovely friendly staff, really helpful. We had to leave early in the morning so they even arranged for our Breakfast to be available early without us asking, how thoughtful was that. We had a meal here in the evening which was just superb. The room we stayed in was lovely and clean, spacious, comfortable and above all quiet. We loved this little town and pub so much that we shall come again, thank you for the pleasurable stay.

We popped into the Ring O Bells on a very sleepy and quiet Sunday afternoon. It's a charming old world pub in the heart of Chagford. They had a very limited Sunday menu which was fine as we were just looking for sandwiches and chips to keep us going. Friendly staff soon had our order and we sat in the bar and relaxed. Our food came in good order and it was all tasty and filling, exceptionally large bowl of chips!

I am wondering whether we went to another place in a parallel universe- so I have triple checked it is the same place. We were here for what was supposed to be an evening of dinner and drinks and turned out to be an episode of Faulty Towers. Shocking food and unprofessional service BUT our sides were splitting – best entertainment EVER: • One of our party was asked if her was a fortune teller because he was brown • Freshly opened bottle of prosecco flat????? Guinness was very poor • Very limited menu of which, lasagne was dry, reheated with wilted, softened cheese on top. The pie managed the feat of having a dry filling with a wet pasty. The vegetables were boiled to within an inch of soup (my glass of water had more seasoning), The gravy was grey and awful. • One of our party ordered from the kids menu as there really was nothing he could find. Imagine our hysterics as he ordered fish goujons with no beans and a pint of larger! • The best part! The cook came out of the kitchen as we were paying and beating a hasty retreat (so I could warm up the leftovers back at home) – she was very irate when told there were 8 more people to serve. Instead of noticing paying customers and being professional, she rolled her eyes and repeated in a loud voice ‘What, 8more? When asked by the bar person if she should tell the doomed 8, food service was over, she shot back and said ‘well tell them there are no potatoes left’ and she would see what she could ‘rustle up’. Felt so bad for the lovely lady behind the bar and the others who overheard Maybe this is a one off and it was a perfect storm of an evening for them, but it was this bad. Had we not been in good spirits and able to laugh and joke together whilst on a break, I would have been truly upset.

We stayed here while attending a friends wedding, they could not have been more accommodating and their customer service was superb. The building is gorgeous and full of history with loads of nooks and crannies. The staff went way out of their way for us during our stay such as making our room up early so that we could dress in our wedding gear in time to get to the wedding comfortably. The room was very nice with a lovely view of the square and the comfy bed had the best duvet I've ever had in any hotel room. The separate access for the rooms is ideal and the cooked breakfast was extremely good. Everyone we dealt with was lovely and overall I am hard pushed to find a single niggle whatsoever. I highly recommend the ring of bells and would definitely stay here again with no hesitation.

We really enjoyed Ring O Bells for dinner. We had had several recommendations, including one by a customer who was outside for a smoke break. We're very pleased we did. After we negotiated the nuances of getting a table (it turns out you just need to take one), we had great service and wonderful food at a very nice price. The beer and gin available was local and quite good. The menu was pretty broad and had choices for everyone, and was definitely a few steps up from standard pub grub.We had a nice dinner of soup (very good), goats cheese tart, and bread and butter pudding/custard.People were friendly but not nosy. There were characters drinking and eating. Dogs wandered through and said hello, as they will in the UK. All in all, a wonderful meal and experience. We did not realize there was an outdoor seating area in the back; if we had, we might have tried it.We did not have a reservation but got a table and were served regardless in a timely fashion.

This is very much the locals pub while the others in the town are slightly more restaurants than pubs. However, the traditional pub grub was truly excellent. We had the steak and ale pies - absolutely delicious and definitely homemade. Our daughter had a steak. It’s the mark of a good chef who can successfully cook a relatively thin steak med rare without screwing it up. The chef served the food himself and was quite rightly proud of what he was serving. Recommend the bread and butter pudding for afters!

We called in here away from the main road for a lunch break on our way to Cornwall. It seemed appropriate to start our holiday with a west country pastie. It was quite possible the worst pastie I have eaten I did eat it because I was hungry, but it was not good. The pastry was dry and the meat inside overcooked to hard lumps. There was no juicyness to the filling, no diced vegetables, and it lacked any flavour. The chips were dry also. Not a great introduction to Devon pub fayre.

We chose Ring O'Bells over other pubs in Chagford as the menu was traditional, more family friendly and there was something for everyone. I'm glad we did. It's a pub that doesn't try to pretend it's something it's not, which I imagine is why it was populated with locals chatting and enjoying a few pints. The pie of the the day was fantastic, the kids meals were just the right amount of food and puddings a real treat. Best of all it was all steaming hot when it came out, which up there with taste in my eyes. Would certainly go again. 3 adult meals 1 kid meal, 2 puddings and drinks £57, value for money based on this visit.

This was a lovely pub, recommended by our hostess at Cyprian's Cot. Not gourmand food, but really good, hearty pub food. To this American, accustomed to having dogs strictly excluded from eating establishment, the presence of the local patrons' dogs (all of whom were well-behaved) was a delight. We liked it so much, we ended up eating there twice. Reminded me of the English pubs I visited the first time I went to England 45 years ago.

There were two of us and a dog and all were made welcome by Ali the poor stressed bar maid who by herself was handing tables, the bar and room arrivals ( they thought it was going go be quiet today). The service was excellent with a good selection of good pub food . There was a selection of locals and visitors and there was no distinction between the two. If you are on Dartmoor or visiting Fernworthy Reservoir make sure you stop here. Parking is a nightmare though so get to the public car park past the church

We stopped in Chagford for a craft fare, lunch and to collect a brolly we left here last night.Chagford is lovely and its got more than its share of good pubs. The landlord at the Ring O' Bells was friendly and the sandwiches were fine. I preferred the Globe Inn, a few doors up though. There's nothing wrong with the Ring O Bells, it's just that The Globe Inn is just about perfect.

Chagford is really lucky in that it has four very different pubs that appeal to those of all generations and all types. The Ringers is the type of pub that has disappeared from most small towns and villages. It does excellent beers, ciders and spirits, really great pub food at sensible prices and at weekend sometimes superb local bands. I like it a lot.

Plenty of places to choose in Chagford but this place hits all the right notes. Very friendly landlord, lunch served by the chef and the food a very good quality and at a reasonable price. They do light lunches such as a small fish and chips as opposed to the large version! Their specials are excellent too. Nice atmosphere and very Devon.

Large choice of British and sea dishes in a large room which felt very English. Nice and quick service, delicious cheeses.

We stopped by for lunch, soup for me and a ploughmans for my husband; both were delicious, and served by the chef himself. The Landlord and the locals were very chatty and friendly - highly recommend a visit.

We love the Ring O' Bells and also have dinner here at least once when we visit the area! Staff are friendly and the pub dog is lovely and friendly too! I think this pub has the best menu with the most choice of all the Chagford pubs in the Square. Food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. You can't go wrong here!

We have not stayed there but our dinner was very good indeed. It has a great local vibe with a locals and visitors mix of clientele. Good prices and lovely puddings.

We went for pizza the 1st evening while camping and then breakfast the following morning. Amazing food at a good fair price, loads of amazing bike gear and bikes. Lovely atmosphere 👌 great staff, everything cooked fresh.

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!

The restaurant was recommended to me and did not disappoint. First class, friendly service and excellent food. The online menu seemed limited but there were plenty of other options on the specials board.
