Riddles Bar in Trafford

Came in on Saturday bank holiday asking if there was any mocktails (pregnant woman here really missing my alcohol 😂) Lovely manager named Beth showed me the mocktails but added if there was anything not on there that I fancied she liked a challenge. Now I am a big whiskey drinker and love dry drinks, not a sweet fan. So when I was looking at the mocktails and she advised me she could make me a drink like a whiskey sours I was sold. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! Its worth noting your other members of staff I dealt with were all lovely and friendly aswell despite it being a very busy bank holiday Saturday. You all made a fed up pregnant woman very happy and I will be recommending you to everyone and will definitely be back when I can have a real drink :)

There are three bars we visit when in Altrincham, The Con Club, The Belgian Bar and Riddles. All three are fabulous but Riddles is a lovely place to just finish off the night. Lovely warm feel to the place and lovely staff who inherently look after us. Some of the cocktails are quite delicious 😋 too. I say some cocktails because I haven't tried all of the delicious sounding cocktails yet but rest assured I will! Heh.

We stumbled upon it quite by accident escaping a rowdy bar next door.It has lovely atmosphere and it was perfect for getting together with a few friends for a catch up.The decor was inviting and the lighting was perfect. The choice of music was outstanding- they were playing jazz and the volume was perfect as you didn't have to shout to have a conversation which is something that us nearly impossible to find nowadays in Manchester on a Saturday night. The bar staff were really friendly and provided excellent service. We will definitely be back again!

We called in to Riddles on Saturday 22.05.2021 after an evening meal in Lymm to round off our daughter's birthday celebrations and, from the initial table reservation through to the fantastic cocktails, it was a great experience Making the reservation was easy using the company's website and we received a warm welcome on arrival, were shown to our reserved table (a cosy alcove close to the main bar) and, within minutes, the waitress took our order, a couple of alcohol free cocktails, a really strong bourbon based drink and a Welsh beer all of which arrived very shortly afterwards The ambient atmosphere at Riddles is really cool, a trendy place to hang out that wasn't too crowded for a Saturday avening in these early post Covid times and this was a fantastic end to a wonderful day and evening. I would highly recommend and would be happy to return PS - only scored the food as terrible because food is not served at Riddles

Hidden spot in the middle of Altrincham, wouldn't know it's there if I didn't have it recommended by a friend. Enormous variety of beers, local and international. Nibbles menu, very good value for the money. Will definitely recommend for a drink in Altrincham.

My friend and I booked a table on Saturday at 5.30 - so glad we did, as we saw lots of people turned away. We were sat at the front by the door, and not sure if it was due to our out of the way location, but we found it hard to get service - would suggest that wait staff come and check up that end more regularly. This was the only negative though - very cool decor and lovely drinks; the pornstar martini in particular was lovely. Will be back!

I came by as I was travelling through altringham. Was met with social distancing rules but that did not stop the bartender (Cameron) from being polite, attentive and friendly. Recommended an off menu cocktail (aviation) which I adored. Will definately be back if Im. In the area again.

Almost as good on a virtual platform as in real life at the emporium. Emma's knowledge and passion for good spirits always make for an engaging evening and this was no exception. Keep up the good work Riddles!

Me and the girlfriend are regularly visiting Altrincham and always find it to be a bit of delightful adventure. Whenever we are there we always check into the Con Club and the Belgian Bar. However after having a bimble round we happened across the Riddles Bar. It was fantastic, fabulous and funkadelic!.. The thing I don't understand is how in the past excursions to Altrincham we have missed it!! What a beautiful place with a cool vibe and I further know that we will visit there again. Its the kind of place we love and definitely our kind of milieu... We will be back.

From the time we walked in, to receiving two cocktails 30 minutes had gone by. Two of the staff were too busy talking to their friends, one of which was another member of staff, who was sat at the bar drinking. The second our cocktails finally arrived, they turned the lights on and turned the music off, thus destroying any atmosphere, and began drinking with two people sat at the bar. Not to mention the cocktails we ordered were undrinkable and horrendously cheap, despite them taking over half an hour to arrive, and having coughed up £19.50 for two drinks. We now understand why the bar was so empty on a Saturday night, and why the staff were wondering why it was another quiet night. Horrendous experience.

My partner and I loved the quirkiness of this place, bar snacks, fantastic selection of cocktails and friendly vibe.

Popped in after a meal at Locanda next door. Live music from The Big Easy added to the atmosphere. Service charming but slow and bar organisation looked a bit chaotic. But a quirky and interesting place nonetheless. Our friend enjoyed his vespa martini.

Went to Riddles after being in The Con Club a few doors before it. Live music consisting of a man and 2 women, easy listening music, I’d say 1940’s type. The staff were friendly , beer was good.

Good selection of drinks. Friendly staff. Service is a bit slow though so if you are restricted with time you won't enjoy it.

I have always loved this place... but...Now they only have one really poor vodka (one brand of vodka in a cocktail bar - and its a crap one ????).So I switched to a Gin martini (lots of choice of gin) rather than vodka - but they have no olives,Seriously a cocktail bar with one brand of vodka and no olives....You can make your mind up if you think I am being too picky - but to me thats unacceptable.The service was really slow as well - so I ended up leaving completely disappointed.

Bought a cocktail, when it came I accidentally knocked it over, the bar staff said they would get me a new one.They brought it over, which I thought it was on the house, therefore I left a tip. However, after drinking half he brought over a bill for the drink. Passing him my card I explained I thought it was on the house, he used my card to pay for the drink and explained there was no way he could put the money back on my card. I know I essentially had two drinks and paid for two drinks but there was a serious lack of communication.It would have been nice to be offered a choice of drinks for my second drink so I wouldn't have to pay £18 for one drink. Plus for it to be clear I was paying. It would have been nice not to be lied to saying money couldn't go back on my card. It obviously could. They could have just explained that they were under the impression I wanted to buy the same cocktail again. First time there, wouldn't go back.

Lovely cocktail bar with old fashioned style atmosphere. Best drinks in Altrincham and an amazing selection of Whiskies/Bourbon. One to visit for sure!

The cocktails are very good. However, the drinks in general are a tad over-priced. I have been here several times with different groups of people, and its noticeably lacking in atmosphere. I'm not sure whether this is due to the long narrow layout of the venue or the low background music.

Arrived at 11.30am from early flight from Manchester for overnight stay due to length of flight and didn't want to travel another 4 hrs home . Was picked up at airport by pre paid taxi included in hotel stay price. On arrival the driver insisted we pay taxi parking of £5 and my husband went into reception to check validity of this .

We visited Riddles with our friends last night and what a lovely little bar, with a difference. Felt like we were going back in time, table service, and waited on by a lovely waitress Julie or Julia (sorry can’t quite remember). She may be tiny but had a huge friendly personality and is a credit to you. Great customer service, with a lovely smile. Thank you!

This place is awesome, you gotta try it. Del and Emma are simply wonderful owners and with Harry as Manager, you can't fault the place. Great cocktails, great music, great value and the best Black Cherry Rumm'un ever .... 11/10

He estado en enigmas muchas veces y nunca decepciona. Fantástico ambiente, cócteles y un personal amable, hermosa especialmente el super smiley Sam que siempre es tan acogedor y hablador no importa lo ocupados que estén. Excepcionalmente conocedor de la menú y siempre aconseja el mejor cóctel =).

Well worth a trip before or after a meal in Altrincham. Always busy - but worth a bit of a wait. Some great quirky bands on some nights.

Been a few times and its always a great welcome and the choice of drinks is second to none. Have the old fashioned its made with great care and is spot on every time.

They have a long list of classics and unusual cocktails. All freshly made so there can be a wait to get your drinks, but it is worth it. Not a place for a swift half, somewhere you should expect to go and spend some time listening to great music.

It's friendly and conveniently located, friendly staff and ajoined burger place almost too good to say no to. Visit often for lunch and quick drink after work and always happy with the service.

Everyone these days does cocktails. And tons of places do them well. Tonight I had a Moscow Mule at this bar we happened upon and it was the worst drink I've had in I can't even say how long. If there was ginger beer in it you could have fooled me and the lime was so strong it drowned out everything else (and I don't believe it was fresh lime but I did see the drink being made). Basically it tasted like watered down lemonade. On the up side the waiter was very nice!

I go in here a lot. It's different to the rest of the bars and pubs in the area. Has a better atmosphere. The staff are all friendly and will have a chat if it's quiet. The drinks are always amazing.

Order an 'old fashioned'.Then another.And another.And another.Patiently wait.Savour the drinks.Soak up the atmosphere.And walk home. If you're still capable!

Riddles is probably my favourite bar in Altrincham. It is a fantastic concept of a "Prohibition Era Speakeasy" and all the staff dress to suit. It was interesting to get the story of where the name came from and shows how well trained and informed the staff are. The make one of the best Old Fashions I have tasted, but be prepared to wait as it takes a while as they do it properly. They have a really extensive Cocktail menu and the staff are more than happy to recommend something based on your own particular tastes. I am a big Bourbon lover and they seem to have most of my favourites, maybe not as many as Troff in Manchester, but pretty close.The staff are always friendly and helpful and up for a chat if they have the time. Definately recommended for anything from a quiet drink to a full blown party.

Great bar for a quiet night out or a lively one. Smokey old fashioned is the best one I've had. Better than any I've paid more from in Manchester.

Been to this bar on many occasions and love it. The whole feel is great, I love the candle lit corners and amazing cocktails. Too many to try in one night, my favourite is the one with earl grey tea which comes in a tea cup. Though last week I asked for something post dinner and the bar tender made me something which literally was an after eight in a glass. I believe you can reserve tables which is good if there are a small group of you, though we arrived around 10.30pm on Friday night and though it was busy enough for a good atmosphere it wasn't too long before we managed to sit down. Friendly staff, waiter service is an added bonus, love it!

First visit to Riddles was a great experience, the 2 bar staff are extremely helpful in choice of cocktails, u tell them what u like an they make a cocktail to ur choice an taste, I never liked bourbon till I visited Riddles an they have changed my mind on bourbon, great atmosphere, nice corners to get comfy an relax with your choice of cocktail, 1950s music not my choice but suits the place really well, will definitely going back and would well recommended you to try Riddles

After a gig in Manchester my friend and I called in Riddles at her suggestion as she lives in Altrincham; I will never look at cocktails in the same way again. The atmosphere and layout were perfect for the 'speakeasy'...think gorgeous mood lighting and corners to whisper in. At the bar I couldn't decide so Del, the barman, suggested as it was a quiet time we go off menu. He asked what my tastes were and created a bespoke drink for me: sublime, perfect and a million other superlatives could not describe drink or service at Riddles. Quite simply the most innovative and unique bar. You get more than you pay for with a drink at Riddles: it an experience. Thank you so much

I am surprised at the rave reviews from some people. I was disappointed when taken to Riddles before a birthday treat meal as Sugo Pasta Kitchen on 30 January. I drink martinis and I am used to good ones; it is never going to end well when you see glasses being chilled down with ice on the bar. It was a long wait, although the barman tried and in the end mixed a not bad martini, but it was still not cold enough :-( . It is worth making the mile trek to Hale to pick up a much superior cocktail at Victor's if you are fussed about the details.

Really enjoyed my visit here, fabulous choice of cocktails, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere relaxed and the venue very well planned considering it's a slightly awkward space. I would highly recommend all of the 3 cocktails I tried (south side, sidecar and native New Yorker) and advise you to visit. I will definitely be going back.

Riddles is probably the best bar in Altrincham if you like trying out different cocktails. They have a large menu, and they also have specials board as well - so it can take a while to choose as you are spoilt for choice!Staff do table service, or you can just order at the bar.However, there are a couple of downsides to this bar. There's often not enough tables or standing room, so you end up being squashed up or in the way. The cocktails also take quite a while to make (sometimes it's taken 20 minutes to make two cocktails), this might be because of how bespoke some of the cocktails are and the huge variety available - but Riddles isn't the place to go if you want a quick drink. I've been here quite a few times now, and the atmosphere is generally very lively and upbeat. I'd recommend getting there early if you want a seat, and make sure you have plenty of time and are not in a rush.

Enjoyed the atmosphere, didn't have to wait too long though and honestly just had a nice night out with my family and friends.

The bar itself is pleasant enough, as are the staff, but I don't understand why they've never heard of Cinzano or Vermouth. I'm also bemused at staff asking people to move tables, so larger parties coming in later can have somewhere to sit. And then being told I can't sit somewhere because a table was booked and fee paid - most curious. Atmosphere in general is fine. Very very casual dress code - jeans are the norm. I give this bar a year before it closes.

A good selection of cocktails available and the staff are always nice and polite... however... be prepared to wait an age for any drinks you order. The first time this happened was on a busy night in the run up to Xmas. Fair enough. However, I went back a few weeks later in a small group (3) on a Saturday afternoon when the place was extremely quiet. 40 minutes we waited for a round of drinks. We went to the bar twice during this time and were told that the drinks were almost on their way. Definitely put me off ordering a second drink, or even returning to the bar.

A great selection of Whiskey and Bourbon. I've had a few 'firsts' in this bar, from the Limited Edition Jack Daniel's Sinatra, to trying my first ever Old Fashioned. The staff are always friendly, and seem very knowledgeable. A must-visit if you're in the area, and definitely a reason to visit if you're not.

Cocktail menu is extensive and this is why, I feel, the staff struggle to turn round orders efficiently. We went last night ordering four cocktails at a time and had to wait about 20 minutes each time. I'm not sure I'll be rushing back

Great night out. Came on Saturday, 15 August and there was a fantastic band playing. Bar staff were tapping their toes, dressed to match the twenties music and clearly enjoying their jobs. This, with great drinks and recommendations from the staff, made it a really fun night out.

Third visit was weekend of 21st August and we really like the place. Very relaxed atmosphere, decent choice of drinks etc and great staff. Definitely becoming a favourite!

A hidden corner of ALTRINCHAM at it's bestIf you haven't experienced prohibition then this is the place to start. Del, Em and their team display miximatology at it's very best in a moody, welcoming environment with a charming willingness to educate those of us who are willing to learn! Cocktail heaven or simple beers - choose as you will, but miss out on cocktails at your peril!If you haven't been - then you should. You know it makes sense!!

It depends who you get as to what you get, never the same cocktail twice, it feel people go there because thats all there is. There are better places in Hale.

We went for a post urban burger drink, next door to Riddles for a delicious cocktail, it felt as if we had been transported to another time and place, in a very good way! A fantastic choice of drinks in a great atmosphere, look forward to return.

I went here 2 weeks ago with my son, we were really very impressed with not only the drinks, but the ambience of the bar and the staff were also very helpful and friendly... just like their cocktails, to me, the above make the perfect mix!!We ordered the Chirpin' Cherry... wow! it was to die for!!We were fortunate enough to speak to the staff that had invented this one to pass on our praise,.... It was so good, that my son went back the next night with one of his friends.I can't compliment Riddle's bar enough, definitely recommend a visit, and I will definitely be back to have another chirpin' cherry ( or 2) ;)

What a truly wonderful bar! Great atmosphere and superb range of drinks if you are Whisky, wine or cocktail fan. From the exceptionally helpful staff through to the amazing décor this is by far one of my favourite places to visit in Altrincham.

Scoperto grazie ad un amico la settimana scorsa, sono rimansto senza parole per questo locale in stile america deli anni 20/30. Oltre all arredo ed al design curato, il punto di forza del bar sta nello Staff e nei suoi cocktail, preparati con eatrema professionalità e passione! Si vede che amano e che sanno fare il proprio mestiere! Un raro posto dove poter " bere per gustare "! CONSIGLIATISSIMO

I love Riddles! Every time I visit, the drinks are divine and the service is always with a smile. I go back time and time again and am never disappointed. Would definitely recommend!!
