Rickshaw Express in East Devon

Rickshaw Express always does exceptionally good food. I have been using them 16+ years. Alan the owner is so lovely and delivery is very quick. I can't fault them.

This was our first time using Rickshaw Express and we were excited to use them after hearing good things, but it was so disappointing!! Below is a photo of our duck (yes duck) which skin clearly never touched a pan! The sweet and sour chicken batter was soggy, the veg in all the dishes weren’t cooked and all the dishes lacked flavour. As for the satay sauce, well it simply wasn’t satay sauce! On a positive note, the man on the end of the phone was great as well as the delivery lady. I just really hope this was an off night and that the head chef had the night off. Even if that is the case, they really need to train their other chefs better!

Visited last night on the way to Exeter for a snack and got the chicken pancake roll it was crispy and packed full of chicken and bean sprouts really good and not at all greasy, it was so good I stopped again on the way home and got another chicken pancake roll and salt and chilli chips and again delicious.

We used to use this place a lot as it’s convenient however we now go to another town to get our Chinese as the food has gone downhill. The chicken balls are so dry, the bean sprouts are tasteless & prawn crackers were soft. This has been on more than one occasion so we’ve given up. The people are really nice and friendly.

We decided to have a Chinese take away last night as a birthday meal. I ordered several dishes online and collected on our way back from a day out as we don’t live near by. I ordered egg fried rice - no egg in it. Chop suey - none of the dishes contained noodles and can’t imagine which one this was supposed to be. We spent some time trying to work out what the dishes were supposed to be as they were all in the same watery sauce. Chicken satay - isn’t it supposed to be a peanut and coconut milk based sauce? Not in this case, chicken pieces and vegetables swimming in brown watery sauce. Beef with cashew nuts- no cashew nuts, same watery brown sauce. squid with chilli and ginger? No, tiny bits of squid which looked like macaroni again swimming in the same thin brown sauce. A huge disappointment to put it mildly. Horrid food and complete rip off. I couldn’t give no stars but I wanted to.

Excellent food. All ingredients were fresh. Won ton soup very nice. We will be definitely back soon. Thank you.

We have driven past this place a few times and wondered what it is like so decided to try it out. We decided to phone our order through rather than order and wait, the phone was answered quickly and politely, we were told it would be ready in 10 minutes. When we got there our food was waiting. The food was lovely, nice and hot and full of flavor. Will definitely be back when we are in the area.

Rickshaw Express is truly one of the best Chinese takeaways I've ever had. I lived in China for six months and London for 10 years so I've always been spoilt for choice, but this is the one that always sticks in my head. The egg fried rice is out of this world, the king prawn foo yung is utterly delicious and the crispy chilli squid is out of this world. It may look pretty nondescript from the outside, but if you're passing through Newton Pop you should definitely pick up a takeaway. The fish and chips are pretty perfect too!

We always use Richshaw despite living closer to other Chinese takeaways. They are reliably good. We have ordered both delivery and collection many times and never had any trouble.

Ordered a large meal for a group of friends, only missing one order of Singapore noodles, the person who paid for the food was the one left without his order. Once we called up to ask they argued back and were awfully rude on the phone to me demanding payment for their cock up, utterly awful customer service from some truly rude individuals

Had a delivery. Came very fast which was good. My boyfriend ordered a big order for a group of us. His meal was missed. Rang back up to explain. Demanded more money to deliver the missing meal. They refused to admit fault, and were very rude about it. First time ordering, group of 5 of us who will unfortunately not return. Shame as food was nice, just lacking customer service! And as someone in the industry, customer service is everything!

Had sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, spring roll, this was for one person, it fed both of us, and it was superb, will go again next time we are in the area, recommended

We have been using them for years best fish and chips in the area. the Chinese meals are delicious, would highly recommend especially if you want it delivered.

The Chinese food from this place is mediocre but yesterday I tried the fish and chips. Awful. I’m sure the chips were left over and refried plus the fish batter was soggy. Take my advice and stay away.

This place is great. Been my families first choice for takeaway for years now. We're never disappointed by the food. My personal favourite is the sweet and sour chicken (HK style). Great for fish and chips too if chinese food isn't your cup of tea. Always get very generous portion sizes and the staff remember regular customers and give friendly service. Whenever we make a phone order it's ready for collection 10 minutes later.

Sometimes the holiday lucky dip can be a let down, this Chinese was brilliant! Delivery within 30 minutes and every dish was perfect! Couldn’t fault a thing! Will buy again!

Have lived in newton pop for only a few years now but whenever we have had takeaway from here it has been very tasty! Great flavours! My favourite is the chilli kung pow chicken!

We have a really good chinese take away near us that people travel miles to use so I'm always a little doubtful when we're away that local ones will live up to what we're used to - this one does.

Always used Rickshaw express after experimenting with all local takeaways when moving to Sidmouth 3 years ago. Easily the best with a great menu and good value for money. Mostly Chinese however they do offer fish and chips, burgers and pies. Always great and really prompt delivery. Highly recommend A+
