Nice traditional music, great service from staff and the food is good in great portion sizes! Especially for the price. Cannot complain aside from being what my Chinese friends describe as being English Chinese.

Really nice authentic Chinese food with attentive and pleasant staff. I visited on a Monday night and they were quiet but deserve to be more busy. I’ll definitely return.

Food was ok good service but the lonely atmosphere is a bit difficult, lack of deserts and absence of coffee disappointing , seems like its being run down.

I have been eating here for probably around 25 years, and I have got to say, it is one of the best chinese ive had world wide, Ben is great, never to much trouble, took all my staff out for dinner here a couple of weeks ago 18 of us, and everyone loved it, couldn't recomend the place more.

The Golden Dragon is undoubtedly the best in Exmouth. The Crispy is duck is in fact, Crispy. The seaweed is always light and delicious. The chicken is never greasy, and I've never woken up feeling heavy and rubbish like most takeaways/ Chinese. The place has its quirks. The service is questionable, the restaurant can often be awkward and you have to go with the flow. BUT I love that and I hope it never changes because it all just makes it a part of the Golden Dragon. Sometimes to get authentic incredible food, you don't also get the classic service that some people may like (according to TripAdvisor). All in all, it's an absolute winner if you're looking for a quality Chinese.

Not bad but mains came out with the starter.

Such a disappointment. We fancied Chinese during our stay in Exmouth and the reviews seemed promising. First impressions weren't great but we decided to give it a go anyway. The food was mediocre at best. For starters- the prawn crackers had absolutely no flavour, the won tons were filled with 1 tiny prawn each, and the chicken on the Satay sticks had a horrible texture. The spring rolls and the sweet & sour sauce for the won tons however were delicious. For mains we had the chili chicken (which didn't taste of chili at all), and the beef in broccoli, which was reasonably tasty, but the portions were very small. Oh, and my Coca-Cola was flat having come from a large bottle. Service was reasonable, but the maitre d'/manager was then sat behind the bar on his phone when not serving, in full view! The waitress was much more professional. The atmosphere was dreary and there just seemed no life in the restaurant, despite most tables being occupied. All in all, not a good experience sadly.

On entry there was an odd smell of stagnant water, we sat at our squashed table for 12 people that was pushed into a corner of a very large and empty restaurant. Ordered drinks, cokes were from a liter bottle that was flat and warm that had stored on the counter. We ordered food. Asked for prawn crackers and they brought out TWO SAUCERS of crackers that didn’t even enough for one each. When questioned they said if we want more we have to pay. Not a problem but not even one cracker each. We had a dead crane fly in one of the menus. We paid for our drinks then left. Really bad.

My family's gone here for special occasions for the past 20+ years. We've always had brilliant service , the food has been incredible. I'd very strongly recommend!

Been coming here for the past 30 years and it is always excellent. Salt baked chilli squid is to die for. House wines are excellence value.

Ate here with my partner today, and wow, the food is absolutely amazing, the staff were absolutely lovely and next time we are in Exmouth we will definitely be coming back!

Probably the best Chinese around for a sit down meal. Never had a bad one. Quite a bit more experience so maybe not ideal for a takeaway but for a special occasion it’s nice

Friendly Cantonese restaurant and take away. Good menu, well priced and cooked, especially sweet and sour pork. Just five minutes walk from the beach front Premier Inn.

Food( rice and chinese curry) are good , just there was a wrong soup packed in our bag so we wasted 4pounds, the soup which we had in our bag was not very nice and not what we ordered. I should mention we can pay by card ( lots of other take away is cash only).

Good place for Chinese food either to eat or take away. Limited menu choices but reasonably priced.

The food was really good if u love a bit of spice but they also have sweet tasting food. and the menu had lots of good options we felt like ordering everything 🤪 we ordered the sweet corn soup, some crispy squids, pork rib, beef, fried rice and pork curry all were good and above all things not forgetting the prices which were pretty reasonable

Dreadful food. Chicken chow mien had hardly any chicken. Mix vegetables were very small portion. After taste in whole food. Manager did not accept complaint.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at the Golden Dragon this evening. Food hot and delicious. Staff very friendly, especially our young waiter. Only downside was, the restaurant was looking a bit tired, could do with some work being done on it. But we would definitely return the next time we holiday in the area.

Restaurant run down! Service from the manager was dreadful rushing you to order without even given time to read the menu whilst he’s on the phone being completely rude!! Food was served within 5mins of being ordered wasn’t even given chance to finish starters before the mains came onto the table!!! And not to forget the manager arguing with a customer! Not the thing you want to see when your trying to enjoy a family meal!! ❌❌

Our go to dine in Chinese restaurant. Great food reasonably priced. We eat here roughly once a month. Typical Chinese ( western version) fare, but beautifully cooked, not the depressingly usual orange slop. Try their mixed veg instead of rice, lovely and fresh.

In previous times this was usually quite a nice if not a slightly dated restaurant but food was good. Sadly it’s really gone beyond making me want to ever return. The ceiling is falling in on itself, the boss sits you down whilst taking a phone call, and when you order a bottle of water at £2.60, you are given a cheap Costco Ice Valley bottle (20-40p max). Food is still somewhat ok but not anything to be excited about, however the nail in the coffin is the crazy mark up on certain products ( eg sweet and sour sauce at £3.60 for an espresso size) and delivering really shockingly poor service from the manager. I hope they are able to turn it around before it’s too late, however I wouldn’t return, plenty of great local restaurants to choose from, and I’ll go where customers are actually welcomed.

😡warning stay well clear of this Chinese restaurant 😡😡Booked a table for 930 arrived at 9:15 had to pre-order food on arrival at reception , when trying to order food at reception the Chinese boss for his hand to my face to stop me from speaking to him 😡😡😡and given a minute to order the food 😱 then rushed to a table ! five minutes later food arrived cold expensive spoken to the boss to complain but was so rude to me Then we were rushed out😱 total experience from start to finish took 35 minutes was not allowed a 2nd glass of wine

Sorry to leave bad feedback but table cloths were dirty, manager wasn't interested, staff had personalities of slugs, toilets were atrocious, decor was awful, sellotape on the wall holding the picture up, music was depressing, but the food was OK. Don't think I will go back!

We have used the restaurant before the lockdown so it has been over a year. It's good to see that things haven't changed. It is still excellent value for money and the food is fantastic. The service is also very good and the food comes out really quickly Ben is brilliant as is his staff who are young, polite and very pleasant. It's good to get back. Thanks for a lovely relaxing night.

Went on Saturday night. Wasn't very welcoming and was rushed. Had to use the takeaway menu has they had not printed off any disposable eat in menus and we didn't have the right app! Place itself was cold. The food was good but went cold quickly. Not the relaxing enjoyable experience we were expecting!

Arrived at holiday..fancied Chinese ...this one came on list.so thought have takeaway to try...OMG food absolutely qeorgous...rice is so light...recommend...friendly owner..and staff..will be going back but this time will sit in ...only downside parking tricky near restaurant..

We googled Chinese restaurants in Exmouth. This one had really good reviews and a 4.5 star rating. It didn’t disappoint us either. We had a lovely meal and wasn’t expensive.

Old skl Chinese and very welcoming staff fitted us in and fast service as we said we had a train to catch

Family meal just after COVID place was very quiet but we were in quite early at 6.30. Place was very clean and tables we re spread out, good varied menu, food was hot and tasty and a full bar. Staff were friendly and pleasant and informed about the menu and offered alternatives. The only thing I could complain is we were given take away menus so they could throw them away after we touched them and the prices did not reflect the price we were charged which cone to over £10 extra. Staff should advise customers of this when giving the menus as it is false advertising

Didn't book but they still found room for us on a busy Saturday night. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was basic Chinese cuisine but was very well cooked and presented nonetheless. Would definitely recommend.

Found the time it took before getting the main meal was very slow and when it arrived it was not very hot, got the rice well before the rest of the dish, it was quite busy BUT if they can not keep up then there is something very wrong. Also, Egg fried rice was nothing like how it should have been it was more like boiled rice with some egg in it and no soy sauce had been added. My coffee was forgotten had the milk but had to ask a second time for the coffee.

Food good and service very friendly. Good choice on the menu and food all well presented. My only criticism is why sit everyone so close together when the room is nearly empty ??

On Saturday 02/11/19, I ordered a takeaway for collection while visiting havens sandy bay holiday park exmouth firstly I recommend you do not use this Chinese as we had a terrible experience with the person in charge on this evening. We ordered £25.50 worth of food which is our standard family meal . The restaurant is located 6 miles away from our park. We ordered, I travelled to collect, they don’t believe in illumination so you can see the restaurant, when you walk in you are greeted by horrible old green carpet and a pungent smell. Collected the food and returned to my family to enjoy our expensive meal. Sat down to eat, prawn crackers soft, chicken fried rice stodgy and like porridge . Chicken chewy not even our dog could manage to eat it. Half a bag of over cooked rubber cold chips, chow main not nice. The beef with mushrooms was ok. As this was an inedible meal we called to complain and I returned to the restaurant with the meal, the manager at the time was not interested insisting it was our fault that we did not like the food as it may have been not what we were used too, he stood sticking his fingers into each part of the meal claiming it was fine. He would not replace the food he gave a £5.00 refund, we lost £20.50 on a meal we did not eat subsequently we ordered the same meal from another restaurant (pings) it was delivered and was perfectly cooked and portion size were good. Cheaper and better value for money we will use this Chinese again. The staff member had a terrible attitude arguing with my wife on the phone while I stood in the restaurant with one of my daughters. I could go on but they really are not worth my time as the meal was not either.(AVOID THIS RESTAURANT )Simon.

We found this on our first night in Exmouth and stopped looking for other restaurants immediately. Service was excellent, speedy and the food tasted great. Prices very reasonable. Thanks, Ben, Imogen, Charlie & Thomas and those in the kitchen.

We attended a birthday a party with about 35 people and the service was excellent as was the quality of the food.

I ordered the set B me u @£19.50 per person well I was so disappointed ! Always thought the Golden Dragon was the best Chinese in town but will not go back again we had it to take away and when we got home there was enough for a hungry 1 person good job I ordered extra noodles and curry sauce the Duck was aweful never again over priced could have got a lot more for my money else where !!!

Eight of us gathered here for my 64th Birthday. Our ages ranged from 75 down to 30. One diner with mobility issues, - we managed OK. Coped with entrance steps as they are shallow & have handrails. Staff quick to assist, & as asked we had a table near the loos. Lovely large dining room with a mixture of various sized tables, well spaced for traversing. Light, bright decor with pretty sparkly lit ceiling. Chinese theme not overdone keeping to wall art in the main. Ambience fine, could have been improved by soft traditional music. At 8pm on a Friday night it was busy but not full. Very comfortable seating although the chairs were heavy to move. Good choice of wines & other drinks. Plenty of menu choice from set menus to individual dishes. We chose set menu B for 2 times 4 with additions of curry & chicken to accomodate a diner with prawn allergy. Staff were happy to serve this person on separate plates. Every dish was beautifully cooked & presented. Wonderfully tasty with all the depth of traditional flavours. Our male relatives have big appetites, & were well satisfied with quantities presented. All dishes were completely eaten, but no-one went hungry! My ice-cream was served with a lit candle & 'Happy Birthday' chorus. A nice touch that was not requested. An extremely enjoyable evening was had by all & at approx, £30 a head including drinks - good value. Thank you for a great evening

Helpful and engaging friendly staff. Our food arrived quickly, but we were disappointed with the fare. Only half a prawn and a few bits of chicken in the pancake roll, the singapore chow mein lacking in taste and heat, the chicken (pieces) in yellow bean sauce were boiled and tasteless and there was much too much carrot (which I've not seen before in this dish). The prawns in black bean sauce and starter portion spare ribs were good. Overall, it was difficult to complain, but the food wasn't tasty enough. £48.00 for 2 courses for 2 with a bottle of wine paid.

So many Chinese restaurants now offer sub standard buffets but the Golden Dragon is a traditional restaurant serving top class food. We chose a set menu and everything was lovely. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was fairly busy. Lots of the customers seemed to know each other and to be regulars

Been on a really quiet night, with some friends. Although we're not impressed with the ambience, was a good experience overall. The waiter was really polite, and the food was a nice surprise! We were also impressed by the fact that they have some Portuguese wine, on the wine list!

Beautiful meal and very good value ( we had one of the set menus). Staff are very friendly and service is quick with the food piping hot. We went on a Saturday night and in the future we will book a table as it was very busy. We had to wait a short time for a table. Definately going back.

Came for dinner last night and had an excellent evening; superb food, friendly, helpful waiters in a lovely atmosphere. We have been coming here for about 30 years (when we visit Exmouth) although we haven’t eaten here for many years - booked a table hoping it would still be as good as it always was and I am pleased to say it was absolutely delicious - best Chinese restaurant by a long way. It’s just unfortunate that it’s too far to travel for a meal! Definitely book a table - you will not be disappointed.

Myself and my family have been going to this restaurant for years and it never fails to be very good. I spent some time in Hong Kong and China so have some knowledge of the food.

Don’t go there 🤮 ! Chicken was awful, berk ! Go to The Powder Monkey, and order a burger or a pizza, much better than bad Chinese food...
