We went to the supper club. It's fantastic value for money - at £65 pp it includes a fabulous 3 course meal with wine pairings and Luce is very generous with his measures! It's a great way to meet new people in a beautiful setting right on the Thames. You really must go - not emperor's new clothes - gorgeous food at un-inflated prices. Thoroughly recommend.

When the name above the door carry’s the name Rick Stein there is a huge responsibility to delivery to the standards set by this food hero and national treasure . The minute you arrive and you are greeted by the polite profesional and efficient team led by Luca a master of owning the dining room and proud of caring for his guests , you are in very good hands. A delightful dining room with river views it’s the place to enjoy seafood cooked on the bone I cannot think of anywhere better with the cornish shuttle for ever delivering fresh fish of the highest calibre to the door for us all to devour . Congratulations we had a wonderful meal and we look forward to our next visit which will be lunch so that we can marvel over the river view . Thankyou

This was a very good, and rather expensive, meal. Everything was competently executed, but overall it lacked the 'wow factor' one might have hoped for (whence the absence of a fifth star). As an appetiser the two of us shared some padron peppers. These were slightly more peppery than expected, but that may have been a question of seasoning as opposed to intrinsically hotter padrons. Anyway, this made them more enjoyable than the norm. The stems of padron peppers are mostly not really edible, so it would have been better not to have had to ask for plates on which to dispose of them. For starters proper, the seared tuna guacamole was excellent. Fish and seafood soup with rouille and croutons is always lovely, but I found this one slightly disappointing because it had been so heavily reduced as to contain none of the solid shellfish treats one is often delighted to find. My son copped out with a ribeye steak and chips. He said it was very good, but he also remarked that none of the fish dishes had really appealed to him. From memory, the fish alternatives were something like cod, hake and Lobster Thermidor - as well as what I chose. I went for the tronçon of turbot with Hollandaise. I read somewhere that Rick Stein himself would choose this for his last meal. I probably wouldn't, but it was very good nonetheless. A tronçon is essentially a steak of the fish on the bone. Having eventually cracked the secret of handling the bones, my one wish would have been for a slightly larger tronçon. A plus point was that the (necessary) boiled potatoes come automatically. This kind of thing should be more common in my view. For dessert, we shared a strawberry sorbet with chantilly and a semifreddo with fruit compôte. This turned out to be a good call. We both felt that either alone might have proved underwhelming, but that half of both made for a genuinely satisfying dessert. The espressos came after the desserts, which I applaud. Even though we had asked for doubles, they seemed very small and were only charged as singles. The service was courteous and friendly. The Rueda Verdejo wine was lovely. We would both choose it again.

Having had several enjoyable meals at this restaurant, we returned after a 6 month break. We were with friends who have often spoken highly about the RS Cornish experience. The meal we ordered was very straightforward - Scallops followed by lobster main courses. The scallops were literally minute ( 5p piece size ) and they were floating in a flavoured broth that simply overwhelmed the scallops. Having watched RS on TV travelling around France enjoying excellent seafood, we were suprised at such miserable and mediocre servings. However, the lobster expectations were still riding high. Enter - impressive shells and claws BUT a miserable amount of soapy, slushy lobster flesh and claws that were swimming in water and as floppy as suet. I don't know what has happened but this was a very underwhelming and disappointing evening. If the food had been up to scratch, I do not think the menu prices are excessive and the service was adequate and polite. Will we go back ? not with friends - until we have re-tested it ourselves as it is embarrassing to disappoint others with a recommendation.

* Amendment to previous review: Dined here for the 2nd time in a month and a very different experience! Food as before, was sublime and the setting and interior are all fabulous. I had the Cornish Lobster, which was enormous and cheap by most restaurant prices and I can't recommend highly enough. Wine is well sourced and well priced and delicious and the set menu is a steal. However, I'm sorry to say, unlike my review below, lunch was marred by our server. I cannot fault her efficiency and our dishes were all served promptly as were the clearing of our plates. But her attitude was questionable - she seemed surly, impatient and I felt couldn't wait for us to leave. Several times I asked her a question or tried to engage her in conversation and each time, she ignored me or walked away. My impression was she couldn't care less about us and had no intention of forming any kind of rapport. I would have refused to pay the service charge, but my friend - who is somewhat kinder than me! - demurred. This is a completely different experience from my other visits where the staff have been wonderful, hospitable and friendly and can turn an ordinary lunch into something quite special. This woman may have been having a day off, but that is no excuse in a restaurant of this calibre and I left feeling quite disappointed and unsure whether I'll return (we dined at 1pm on 21/8). 12/7/24 We had exceedingly high expectations before lunch yesterday, which I'm delighted to say, were met on every level! Beautiful, understated interior and seated by a river window, it felt like we were in a different country. The service and professionism of the staff were flawless (similar as you would find in a Central London 5* hotel). Delicious food, generous portions and the set menu great value for money. Friendly, comfortable atmosphere, so much so, lunch ended at 5pm! *Special mention for the lovely manager who showed me to our table and offered me a coffee, despite the fact I was very early and they were still doing their pre-lunch prep. Thank you for accommodating me 😊*

I was very disappointed with this after looking forward to going for the last couple of years. We got seated straight away, had a drink each and once they emptied, there was no rush to ask for another drink. Oysters were brought over and before they were finished, we were asked if we were ready for starters. I got the Dover Sole. It was very nice, until I found a hair in my food. A real shame, it's a lovely location but it feels it really does just live off the Rick Stein name. I would put this down to a bad day at the office

Unbelievable across the board. Everything was delicious. I can’t wait to go back. Fishcakes - unreal. We ended up ordering more! Only £5. Small but they pack a punch of flavor Oysters - wow. Huge, delicious. Loved them. Fish n chips - delicious and one of their main sellers. Also helps donate to a charity for a child in need. Service was quick and kind. Our only sad point is we weren’t by the main window open area to the river with views because we had 6 people. They seemed like they mostly fit 4. All good though, we will return. Oh how could I nearly forget - one of the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had. Order 2 if you have 6 people, it’s worth it!!

I didn’t know what to expect from a Rick Stein restaurant as the brand is more than just food. The location in Barnes is ideal and after requesting a riverside table (didn’t think we would be lucky but we were) we thought that would make the evening special. But we were wrong. The staff and the service was exceptional! They couldn't do enough for us and subtly checked in all the time to see how things were going and was there anything else that they could do. Add to all this, there was a deal on for whole lobsters at £40!. This is a wordy response but I feel strongly about our experience. Above and beyond what we expected. We are going back next Saturday!

The bald manger (with black glasses frame) is terrible and probably a racist idk. As long as I walk in (8:50pm) , he gives me an attitude. I asked if I can sit the tiny table next to the riverside he said that left area is gonna be closed soon but I can see many other white ppl who just ordered stuff sitting in the area. I then told another waiter if I can sit in the table next to a group of 10 ppl (not the riverside I asked in the beginning). The manger then said oh cus we’re about to close we don’t want you to be asked to move when you’re having your food. Guess what, when I finished my food AFTER 20 mins, I can see they’re still serving new food to the table of a group of 10., literally next to the tiny table I asked for. Basically the manager just didn’t want to give me the sit I want so he made up this stupid excuse to discriminate against me, potentially bcus I’m the only 1 person (and Asian) customer in the restaurant. Disgrace. I can see many ppl still sitting in every area after 9:30pm. No need to lie. (The pic is the table of a group who was still served after I even finished my meal at 9:30pm, a proof that they’re not really ‘closing the left area’ for sure.)

One of the best views and vibes with thames right next to you. This was my second visit and I was disappointed with the service. I was served a warm lager and when I pointed that out there was no apology. Surely they must have felt the warm beer glass before serving. Also had to change some dirty cutlery. May be this was one off because my experience first time around was brilliant. Hope they take notice and rectify.

We were told that they had run out of lobster, however, the table next to us was later told that there were 2 left. The food was surprisingly disappointing. Minimal crab in the linguine, Dover Sole was too buttery, Monkfish was good, however, there was no garlic in the accompaniment, it just tasted like fennel. Overall a very disappointing experience in what was supposed to be a celebration meal.

Restaurant was not at full capacity with empty tables around 8pm Thursday. yet still sat us near the toilets and busy bar corner without a view. We asked to sit elsewhere. The declined. Seems they prefer bookings over walk-ins. We spent over £200 as we were a table of 4. Maybe theyre not interested in providing full hospitality experience unless you have a reservation. Snobby posh vibe A child-less couple who were sat beside us complained to us for our kids to reduce noise. Because ‘they had a bad day at work’ Our kids were sat down on ipads quietly with low volumes to help other people enjoy their dinner as the other option would be for our kids to be chatting, walking around and moving cutlery as most kids arent statues?! The radio or music was on which we could hear and wanted to turn down but we didn’t ask incase we heard another ‘no’ I did ask our waitress and her manager to move us to another empty table again but for no reason they refused. We were there till 10pm and closing. No reservations came along to those tables either. Waitress did not know much about the wines, when we asked her she hadnt tasted them but still attempted to sell us the more expensive ones. It took her ages to attend to the tables even with back waiters to hand. She forgot to bring the kids shell-fish tasting dish and got the order wrong with the salads. She gifted the couple next to us with dessert and left us waiting for ketchup and lemon for the kids. She brought one slice of lemon when we are 4 people. Very fake hospitality and seemed away with the fairies. Even stopping us mid ordering to rectify the order for the next table. We left her the change at the end when paying the bill which brought out a smile. We would prefer to remove the service charge here but we never do that when eating out. Instead here is our honest review. 1 star for the thames river view that we didnt see due to our table and one tasty fish dish which is fair to include in this review. Lettuce was mouldy and little served. Avoid as families and maybe try other seafood restaurants. There are plenty good ones in london. I travelled from chelsea and not worth the travel effort

Went for a 70th birthday upon arrival the head of house was rude and unwelcoming. When requesting a table by the river given pretty short shrift told everyone here is for a celebration and no exception would be made “for us”. The waiting staff brought the wrong order to the table and were very slow/inattentive on taking orders. Despite making it clear during the booking and upon arrival that it was for a 70th birthday no special effort made which is typically customary. The food was excellent at £100 a head I’d have hoped for the front of house team to be as good as the food but unfortunately they’ve let the team down. We’d recommend going for the food and location but less so for a special occasion in which case there plenty more option in the area that will give you an exceptional experience for your special day.

Really looking forward to this, and was pretty underwhelmed. Food was okay, not mind-blowing, were my expectations you high? The service though was my lasting impression. The maitre'd addressed my husband and overlooked me.. ...big mistake. The chap overseeing our area was basically "absent". The young waitress was the nicest person there, despite being spoken to by "the chap" with abruptness and not a single please or thankyou or smile. Maybe that was because the Maitre'd chap was speaking to him in a similar manner. Anyhoo, good service can make an average meal memorable - but poor or disinterested service will always leave a bitter taste. Your people are letting you down Rick!

The table we had was great with lovely views. The food itself was OK but it really wasn’t anything special given the reputation of Rick Stein. The portion sizes where small, particularly the rice and beans, and if i’m being honest it wasn’t anything you couldn’t get in your local restaurant that does fish dishes. I eat out a lot and for the money they charge, it just isn’t worth it. The service wasn’t great either and given the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, that was disappointing. Dishes would not be served at the same time and a Happy Anniversary written on one of the two desserts plates we had was as much personal touch as we received. We had a nice anniversary dinner. The restaurant was nice enough to accommodate our request for a nice river side table which was very much appreciated. Food was generally good. We had the fried coconut prawn starter which was alright, nothing too special. The scallops were a bit disappointing in the sense that they were very small (could be due to challenging bank holiday weekend supplies) and would have been better to create an emulsion with the hazelnut butter as opposed to just melted butter. They were nice enough to offer our dessert as complimentary to rectify that. Both mains were quite nice… the Indonesian curry was fragrant and spicy, and the turbot was just excellent, although the hollandaise was a touch thicker than expected. Sticky toffee pudding came with a nice message on the plate for our an anniversary which was a nice touch. Overall a very nice place with great service and good food and the prices were quite reasonable for what we ordered.

The best meal I have had in AGES! Such beautiful fish, wonderful staff, the atmosphere and view is so hard to beat. Cannot reccomend enough. My family and I eat out a lot and I have to say that the beautiful produce and the ingredients sing for themselves. Haven’t had a meal this lovely in London for a long time. Sick of frills and flowers. Beautiful fish is enough. So hard to get a meal like this unless you’re on the med. Thank you for a lovely experience and for your friendly service. We will be back again and again. 100% recommend! Especially a table along the river view. Our waitress Alice was particularly lovely. Couldn’t have picked a nicer place for lunch.

We held our daughters birthday party at Rick Stein’s restaurant in Barnes on May 4, 2024. Beginning with GM Luca’s initial meeting and throughout the entire celebration, everything was absolutely brilliant !! Service, food, atmosphere and Luca’s warm hospitality were outstanding. We will definitely becreurning soon as I am sure our guests for the evening will be too. Truly a night to remember.

It was the worst meal of our 3-week stay in London. The food was simply undistinguished. The haddock dish was unbalanced in flavour, too sour in taste and also unfresh. The Indonesian fish curry had no aroma of fresh spices and was bland. There is no quality control in the kitchen. We had two courses each and so we had sampled 4 dishes on the menu plus one dessert. All of it was ordinary. Ordinary!

Food was very tasty, albeit the portion sizes are tiny if you choose the set menu. So much so that it didn’t feel like great value for money. The service left a lot to be desired. The waiters were inattentive, there were missing items from our starters - we just didn’t feel looked after. The venue itself is lovely with great views across the river.

Both me and my partner are a huge fans of Rick Stein and seafood. Firstly, this is the fourth time we have visited this restaurant. Sadly, for the second time, we were very disappointed. My partner ordered tuna, which turned up cold and too raw. I ordered Indonesian Curry and particularly asked the waiter if the french beans would be cooked as they had previously been served raw and he assured me they would be cooked. Annoyingly, they arrived cold and raw. I also ordered a chocolate /merengue dessert, which could only be described as awful. The restaurant has become extremely expensive but serves very moderate food.

Fantastic Saturday evening spent at Rick Stein, Barnes with family. The food was delicious - I had scallops for starter and Indonesian seafood curry. The staff were fantastic and made us feel welcome and not rushed (even with us arriving late). The table was next to the river so had a lovely view. Would definitely recommend.

We had a family dinner on Sunday 14th April and everything was perfect. We have lunched and dined many times over the last few years at Rick Stein in Barnes, this was our best experience yet. The service was excellent without being overly attentive and the food was outstanding, especially the scallops , turbot and seafood curry. Well done to all concerned, we much look forward to our next visit!4

Went for early breakfast birthday meetup with five. All the poached eggs were hard boiled bullets, bacon was dry, probably air fried. Half a tomato was hard and skipped across my plate when I cut it. The sausage was tasty but overly dry , mushrooms were dehydrated, c'mon Rick, no baked beans?? Everyone serves them everywhere else, at least have an option for them. Then again what do I know ... Back to Greasy Joe's with me.

Four of us went for a birthday lunch here with my 18 month old in tow. I wanted to leave a review as we had such a wonderful experience, in particular with the service and the staff. Gennaro, who served us, was so kind and attentive with our child he made us feel really comfortable. As most parents know, eating out with a toddler can be quite the stressful experience (!) but it was really fun and relaxed. Not somewhere I expected to feel as "family-friendly" as it did but I would definitely recommend to families. Many thanks to the staff and specifically Gennaro for the brilliant service!

Avoid!!!!! Couldn’t accommodate my coeliac child. Very disappointing as I called earlier on in the same afternoon and was told there were various options available. Was advised that one of the fryer wasn’t working so could do chips. Nothing on the kids menu was gluten free. Plus there were several fruit flies on the wall!

The setting…Lovely outlook if fortunate enough to be seated overlooking the River. Overall restaurant decor tired in places, particularly the ladies toilet area verrry small, not a powder room, needed to be generally given a good clean and paper refreshed. I always think you can tell a lot by the standard of the Toilets ! We ordered cocktails which were ok couldn’t taste alcohol. Followed by Picpaul de Pinet Bread and olives . Our starters of Smoked salmon tattie scones, were lack lustre, the shaved beetroot in the Salmon dish was completely dried out. For mains we ordered Mussels with fries and The seafood curry. The Cider broth the mussels were cooked in was tasty. The mussels quite small not many of them. The curry was good. The cold green bean salad accompanying needed something else- I poured the oil from our olives over and it gave it some flavour. Overall food just felt ok… Disappointing because I expected much better and the ambiance generally let it down. Regular diners were definitely made far more welcome. I don’t expect to get up and to try and find a waiter to order a drink. The restaurant was probably only at 40% cover capacity. The cost- we expected it to be pricey, it was.. but if we had been impressed would of appreciated it more. £5 for water… come on Rick your doing ok… not necessary. We later went to see an evening with Rick Stein at the Richmond theatre, which was excellent, it’s a pity he hadn’t popped into his own restaurant earlier!

The Dorset oysters were very disappointing: small, difficult to extract from their shells and the sauce mignonnette watery to the point of tastelessness. The tronçon of turbot was nicely prepared but they were very stingy with the Hollandaise. The Rick Stein white burgundy was seriously lackluster given the price (£50/btl). It appeared they were understaffed for a Saturday night.

Came here to eat the 3 course for £17.50 which was Salmon starter, French burger and then cheesecake. Good value for the set menu. All I’d say is that a piece of French bread wouldn’t go amiss with the starter as the starter had a sauce which would go well with some bread. Also some bread would go well with the main that my friend had. The place has no parking so if you’re driving then you’ll need to find places to park in nearby residential streets. Place is set by river so if booking a table then request a table next to the window to get the views.

So disappointed to send back inedible over salted mains dish. Offer for another mains on the house declined and not what you expect from this class of restaurant. Would query title of salt cod fish cakes which were 100% fritters in batter not breadcrumbs. Dessert however was exquisite. By the way the hand soap and cream in the toilets were like wallpaper paste and very sticky!!!???

The outdoor terrace of this fish restaurant on the Thames is an under-regarded delight, as is the food. The spinach we had one sunny lunchtime still had grit in it, but Nuno, a superb maitre'd, ensured we were not charged for the item. In my view, as a practised bon viveur, this branch of Scott's is superior to the Mayfair original. mw
