Steak wasn’t great. Fish curry was decent

We had a large group (17 people) family meal at Barnes and received wonderful service, food and professionalism. I wish to thank all the staff for making us so welcome.

Beautiful setting at Rick Stein’s Barnes restaurant. Fabulous lunchtime offers at this stylish restaurant. Great food, wine and service at a good price.

Always a refined yet comfortable experience at Rick Stein. What a gem we have here in Barnes. I recommend the starter Tuna with Guacamole and a glass of the Rick Stein brut fizz.

This is one of our favourite places. Once in a while they do a special treat - Supper club where you get to meet the chef, find out about the "behind the scenes" about the restaurant and try Rick's dishes you won't find on the menu. Absolutely terrific!

We had a family dinner on Sunday 14th April and everything was perfect. We have lunched and dined many times over the last few years at Rick Stein in Barnes, this was our best experience yet. The service was excellent without being overly attentive and the food was outstanding, especially the scallops , turbot and seafood curry. Well done to all concerned, we much look forward to our next visit!4

Best quality and value restaurant in Barnes. The weekend breakfast is beautiful and very well priced. Country pub quality in London and less expensive than expected. I fear weekly visits are in order.

Lovely restaurant with really excellent staff ("the Romanian lady" I think Adela is her name, was exceptionally kind and really wonderful)

Went for early breakfast birthday meetup with five. All the poached eggs were hard boiled bullets, bacon was dry, probably air fried. Half a tomato was hard and skipped across my plate when I cut it. The sausage was tasty but overly dry , mushrooms were dehydrated, c'mon Rick, no baked beans?? Everyone serves them everywhere else, at least have an option for them. Then again what do I know ... Back to Greasy Joe's with me.

Had the fish and chips, didn’t come with vinegar when I asked for vinegar I was given balsamic! Surely Rick knows it should be malt vinegar with fish and chips!

Beautiful location, a few feet away from the river with some tables overlooking the Thames sidewalk. I feel a little disappointed with the food quality, I expected something better. The service was excellent .

Four of us went for a birthday lunch here with my 18 month old in tow. I wanted to leave a review as we had such a wonderful experience, in particular with the service and the staff. Gennaro, who served us, was so kind and attentive with our child he made us feel really comfortable. As most parents know, eating out with a toddler can be quite the stressful experience (!) but it was really fun and relaxed. Not somewhere I expected to feel as "family-friendly" as it did but I would definitely recommend to families. Many thanks to the staff and specifically Gennaro for the brilliant service!

Food was great and staff were fantastic.

A nice place! and very friendly staff! Quiet place, I really got aesthetic pleasure. The only wish is to make the preparation of dishes more tasty; the fish turns out boiled.

Avoid!!!!! Couldn’t accommodate my coeliac child. Very disappointing as I called earlier on in the same afternoon and was told there were various options available. Was advised that one of the fryer wasn’t working so could do chips. Nothing on the kids menu was gluten free. Plus there were several fruit flies on the wall!

The setting…Lovely outlook if fortunate enough to be seated overlooking the River. Overall restaurant decor tired in places, particularly the ladies toilet area verrry small, not a powder room, needed to be generally given a good clean and paper refreshed. I always think you can tell a lot by the standard of the Toilets ! We ordered cocktails which were ok couldn’t taste alcohol. Followed by Picpaul de Pinet Bread and olives . Our starters of Smoked salmon tattie scones, were lack lustre, the shaved beetroot in the Salmon dish was completely dried out. For mains we ordered Mussels with fries and The seafood curry. The Cider broth the mussels were cooked in was tasty. The mussels quite small not many of them. The curry was good. The cold green bean salad accompanying needed something else- I poured the oil from our olives over and it gave it some flavour. Overall food just felt ok… Disappointing because I expected much better and the ambiance generally let it down. Regular diners were definitely made far more welcome. I don’t expect to get up and to try and find a waiter to order a drink. The restaurant was probably only at 40% cover capacity. The cost- we expected it to be pricey, it was.. but if we had been impressed would of appreciated it more. £5 for water… come on Rick your doing ok… not necessary. We later went to see an evening with Rick Stein at the Richmond theatre, which was excellent, it’s a pity he hadn’t popped into his own restaurant earlier!

The Dorset oysters were very disappointing: small, difficult to extract from their shells and the sauce mignonnette watery to the point of tastelessness. The tronçon of turbot was nicely prepared but they were very stingy with the Hollandaise. The Rick Stein white burgundy was seriously lackluster given the price (£50/btl). It appeared they were understaffed for a Saturday night.

Came here to eat the 3 course for £17.50 which was Salmon starter, French burger and then cheesecake. Good value for the set menu. All I’d say is that a piece of French bread wouldn’t go amiss with the starter as the starter had a sauce which would go well with some bread. Also some bread would go well with the main that my friend had. The place has no parking so if you’re driving then you’ll need to find places to park in nearby residential streets. Place is set by river so if booking a table then request a table next to the window to get the views.

Having enjoyed Stein as the only educated cook on TV, I looked forward to a meal at nhis BarnesThames side restaurant. Sadly poor overall, uninteresting food, poor service mediocre decore for what should be an exceptional setting. No wish to return.

So disappointed to send back inedible over salted mains dish. Offer for another mains on the house declined and not what you expect from this class of restaurant. Would query title of salt cod fish cakes which were 100% fritters in batter not breadcrumbs. Dessert however was exquisite. By the way the hand soap and cream in the toilets were like wallpaper paste and very sticky!!!???

Very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere but the cooking was a bit drab - I had the peppered prawns starter which was basically prawns in soya sauce and a hake main which was just a bit boring.

Food was great and nice service

Good, but wouldn’t rush back. Venue excellent, service first class. Smoked salmon starter not really like Ricks recipe, Turbot wonderful, dessert okay. The RS Burgundy white very good. Overall enjoyable but cooking not quite up to the mark.

Firstly I would like to thank the whole team involved from the Maître d' (Luca), our wonderful server and those in the kitchen all of whom worked hard to make this a wonderful evening. From the time we entered the restaurant, until we left, Lucca treated us as if we were the most important guests in the restaurant, a job well done. The food was impeccable (thank you to the kitchen) Mr. Stein should be proud of you. As for our server, sorry I forgot your name, thank you for making our evening just that extra bit special. This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time both as a dining experience and for the quality of food. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Sorry no photographs of the food, we were too busy enjoying it :)

Beautiful lunch date with my husband. Very rare for us with two children so when we do we really hope it will be worth it, and today’s lunch was. Alice served us and what a fantastic job she did. My champagne was topped up throughout the lunch, she recommended my tuna & avocado starter which was absolutely delish. We left feeling full and reconnected. Both look forward to visiting again soon. Had a fantastic meal here last night. Gennaro made us feel incredibly welcome and was very warming and accommodating. The food was all delicious, fresh sashimi starter and perfectly seared tuna. The Indonesian curry and Turbot were cooked to perfection too. The tiramisu and sticky toffee puddings were to die for to top off this special meal. Wine very reasonably priced too. I Attended with my family for my Mothers birthday. We arrived early and even though we had booked, our table was not ready so we were directed to the bar. This was fine as we ordered some cocktails while we chatted. The bar man handed me my Bloody Mary and as he placed it in my hand the bottom of the glass fell out and the drink went all over my dad, brother and myself mainly, spilling red tomato juice all over us. My mum luckily escaped. We then sat through the meal feeling really uncomfortable. As a gesture they did not charge us for the round of drinks that we had at the bar. We paid the full price of the meal and all the drinks with it at over £300 and were not even offered a complementary desert for my mum!!!! At the end of the meal, They offered to pay for the dry cleaning bill which was £18.00 however the stains in my T shirt did not all come out and as it was not new and I no longer had the receipt they would not replace it. Mum emailed the restaurant with the dry cleaning bill and the reply was to offer us a free bottle of champagne on our next visit. There will not be another visit! The atmosphere was bland and the food not worthy of the prices, mum makes better food at home! Its a shame as we have been twice to the Bournemouth restaurant which was fabulous.

Was taken here as a birthday treat. Loved being by the river and seeing the sunset. Staff were very attentive and allowed to taste a sample red wine we were looking for. Recommend the lobster with salad and fries as well as sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. Both dishes were delicious. Cosy atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed my birthday. Loved the personal touch of happy birthday written in chocolate on the rim of dish. Thank you all.

Sashimi was not very fresh. Lobster Gratin was a bit bland. The fish and chips were excellent and the saganaki was delicious.the wait time was a bit long, we got 4 plates and were there for over 2 hours. Lovely ambience, great service.

Had the best food and wine but the star of the eve goes to our waiter. He was on the button, humorous and so efficient. Shame i didn't ask his name or he'd get a personal mention here.

Horrible experience. Every dish we ordered had a weird brown liquid seeping out of it, also there was an air of adultery about the place.

The food was yummy and the menu had great choice in all the courses. Staff were so friendly and efficient. Would highly recomend going as a couple or group.

Beautiful setting, overlooking Sandbanks Bay. Lovely clean decor and nice artwork. I had a delicious crab and linguini dish but my side order of broccoli was served cold. After complaining, I was promptly served with a hot replacement. My mother had cod and chips but she was disappointed. She said that whilst the fish was perfect; moist and very white. However, the batter was a bit too thick and so, it was soggy underneath she removed it. The service was reasonable until we were ready for coffee when we spent 30 minutes trying to get the waitresses attention. Finally, I had to walk over to her and ask for the bill. I didn't even get a simple apology. Having said that, I would return.

A place to eat excellent foods and relax by the river. We had a marvellous experience. Nothing to fault except the price🤪

What a wonderful experience! The service was incredibly helpful, friendly and generally wonderful. The food was incredible, prefect in every way. Great portion sizes, adequately-priced, varied but not-too-long menu & a decent kids' menu. The view of the river from our table was just perfect as well, beautiful restaurant location, plenty of street-parking....generally a wonderful experience.

We had a family lunch during Christmas holidays and ate ma mouclade, smoked haddock, red mullet, guinea fowl chorizo, salt and pepper squid, etc

I have eaten at Rick Stein Barnes few times now & always had a great time with fabulous food cooked to order & excellent service so I booked our Xmas lunch here as a treat. Had a perfect window table overlooking the River Thames & a really lovely waitress. Sadly the food on this occasion was not up to their usual standard which I have attributed in part, to some dishes being pre-prepared & mass cooking of just a minimal menu for large numbers over several xmas day sittings! To their credit, the manager contacted me to apologise & make amends & will be looking at changes to improve the issues I discussed. Very professional & reinforced the high standards & quality of this restaurant which I really appreaiated - not many do this in my exparience! I will be returning very soon as this is such a lovely restaurant, Thank you, Jenny.

Hugely enjoyable early family supper. Everything is done professionally with care and friendliness. You can really tell when an establishment is well-managed- the food and service was impeccable- everyone knows exactly what they're doing and they stick to what they do really well. The result is that on each of the several occasions we've visited, the experience is delightful

The food doesn't live upto the price and hype, though the location and service is wonderful.

As expats living outside the UK for a couple of decades, we have missed Mr. Stein's rise to fame. Our good friends are Barnes locals and regulars at the this location, so on our annual Christmas trip to London they invited us to join them for dinner. The restaurant is pleasant, the servers were friendly and when the sun is up I'm sure the view is lovely but the food was just ok, absolutely nothing special. Fish and shellfish soup - decent, probably the best thing we ate. Seared Tuna Guacamole - tiny and average at best, this was highly recommended by the waiter but was blah. Whole Sea Bream - decent. Indonesian Seafood Curry - insipid/bland, under seasoned. Grilled Tuna - under seasoned and the thinnest piece of tuna I've ever seen. This was the most underwhelming meal of our entire week in London, based on this I'm not sure why Rick Stein has become such a well know chef. We would not return.

We decided on the festive menu and didn’t regret our choice! All three courses were absolutely delicious without any pretentious plating. Service was impeccable. Our only issue was the bright light shining in my partners eyes. They did turn them down when we requested but he was still uncomfortable.

Superb across the board apart from my Turbot Hollandaise it was the tail piece and very boney apart frpm that very good

2 people ordered monkfish, 1 arrived twice the size of the other. Smaller one taken away to be replaced. It returned warmed up plus a fresh piece. The meal was poor and certainly not up to the standard expected of Rick Stien.

Delicious seafood, the tuna entree was phenomenal. Unfortunately the service was disappointing for a high end establishment, jackets weren't taken, old/used plates weren't cleared for prolonged periods, water rarely refilled.

For an almost 350-pound Christmas lunch for two people, it was an exceptionally underwhelming experience. The staff lacked any sort of warm hospitality experience, and the food was average at best. We were surrounded by dirty dishes for much of our lunch, which seemed to be felt by the diners around us too. At that price point, the staff should at a bare minimum remember which party ordered what dish - particularly on a table for two. It’s a shame to experience this from what should be a renowned name in English hospitality on Christmas Day, and it might be a while before we revisit a Rick Stein establishment again.

We had lunch here. The food was amazing- I had the festive menu and the mussels , spaghettini and chocolate torte were all 10/10. Service was attentive and helpful. Highly recommend.

Excellent in every respect -menu choices , the monkfish was particularly good as was the Indonesian fish curry , crab , tuna, fish and chips , drinks ( especially the Doombar 0.0 for the driver) . Service very attentive , position overlooking the river lovely .

This is my go-to place in west London for seafood. Everything is so fresh and deliciously made. I love the chowder on their specials , so silky and lush. All the fish plates are very well cooked, they obviously understand how to cook seafood properly. Make sure you book in advance - weekends and most evenings are busy!!

Someone else said what i felt. Everything was excellent EXCEPT the service. We booked especially to go to this Rick Stein restaurant .. travelling from Australia on a big holiday. The ambience was great, the food was great the wines were great .. the service was what i would call indifferent ! Our water was prickly. Could hardly crack a smile but in the background was laughing and chatting with other waiter and drink staff. On arrival we were asked ... will you just be having the mains !? What do we look like paupers or trailer trash. Very odd. Anyways we did enjoy 5 courses.. nice wines with all of them .. paid over $500 aud for 2 people .. AND the bill had like 25% added as a tip as it said " for our wonderfull wait staff !!!??? NOT. I really didnt really know what to do early on .. tell them we dont want this waiter ?? You really have to ensure your staff are EXCELLENT .. not just good .. and weed out those with attitude. Please.

Lovely restaurant , served graciously but sadly food was presented disappointing in that a) the first course was served on cold plates ( a big no no for a restaurant of this apparent pedigree ) and consequently one had to eat fast before it was soon cold . b) the tart tatin was served boringly cold and thus pretty tasteless. Sorry Rick I think the team needs to do better given the price .

The good stuff: Impressive looking restaurant, great decor and loved the view of the river! The staff are smart and seemed very attentive, thank you to the waiter that offered me a blanket when I appeared to be cold, and also offer to top up the warm water in my fresh mint tea! That was kind and sweet! Aside from the couple of bits I mention below, the food was flavourful, good portions, and didn’t take too long to come out! Definitely worth a redo, so we’ll come back 😋 The not so good stuff : it was slightly odd that the waiter couldn’t explain what was in their French coffee, even after he went off to find out, he came back and asked if I wanted an espresso that they can put some alcohol in! But Sir, I asked what was in the French coffee on the menu? 🙈 ( we never did find out so I guess I’ll have to Google it one of these days) The skin on my fish was a little tough like the fish had been sitting out for a while, but other than that the fish was fine. Is it normal to serve a portion of white steam rice with a grilled fish dish that doesn’t come with any sauce? Seemed a bit odd but may be just a personal thing 🤷🏿‍♀️

My mother booked lunch here for her 91st birthay. Her husband and me, so a small occasion, coinciding neatly with he resaurant 'Charity week' promotion. An overall delightful visit but important to stress my 91 yr father who was driving...was turned away? (without establishing he really did quallify to park in the disabled parking area in the courtyard). I had driven from Norfolk and would have appreciated key local car parking knowledge... that the endless 'Residents Only' parking spaces applies ONLY during 9-11 am ie FINE for non residents out of that time bracket. There was also a great emphasis to be 'on time' and that our booking was in an allocated tight time slot. Interesting as the resaurant was pretty much empty so in effect, a bonus not being moved on. As there were 3 of us, we chose colllectively All the 3 menu options offered under the charity promotion, ttto test out the capability & range of the renowned Rick Stein cuisine. All 3 fiirst courses were Excellent. A good result as immediatey plans were afoot to arrange a return visit(s) with family and friends. The brakes went on sadly when 2 of our main courses were frankly more than disappointing as not possible to finish even though I had no breakfast, a long drive & was very hungry. My aubergine dish looked Fabulous but was too salty to even try to finish, after 2 bites. Then, my father's dauphinese potatoes were too undercooked to eat, but fortunately my mother's chicken was Superb. All 3 pudding/dessert options were Divine & gobbled up, with even thankful extra lashings of cream for my cream addicted mother! The plate decorated with Happy Birthday. Brilliant. The champagne, ordered for our arrival, was Perfect & lasted the whole meal. The staff were All Fantastic. The location on the river bank with stunning views of the intriguing busy river scene with a constant stream of boats & rowers. Blissful and serene. I gave feedback re the 2 suspect dishes on the spot. This review is to help others, esp if arriving by car aand also for the attention of Rick Steen senior management! We've been there many times. Nice location with a great view of the Thames. The staff is very professional and attentive. The good is just perfect in term of quality and quantity.

Great location and decor, great food and at a good price

Our experience at this Rick Stein location was not up to the standard of others we frequent in the UK. The service was lacking and quite indifferent. Food was average in comparison, the plates for hot food were cold and the cocktails poorly made.

Wow... food, service, atmosphere... loved everything. Minor quibble... Maybe some bread? Or has France and Italy spoiled us?

Absolutely beautiful food, good sized portions, exquisit fish and lovely service. Great view out over the Thames too! Very accommodating of our 3 year old considering the caliber of restaurant.

I recently visited Rick Stein's Barnes and had an amazing experience. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the troncet of turbot was cooked to perfection. Our waiter Graham was very attentive and lovely, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The only downside was the amaretto sour at the end, which could have been better. Overall, I would highly recommend Rick Stein's Barnes for anyone looking for a great seafood restaurant with fantastic views over the Thames.

Decent service and atmosphere, would like to go during the day to get the river views. The only slight criticism is that my Dover sole was a smidgen undercooked but it was rather a large portion.

This was our second visit. As always the food was fabulous. The service left a lot to be desired. Had to wait 1 hour between courses. I was lead to beleave that they where a chef down? The wine selection was good. Had the devil kidney for a starters. 20 out of 10.

Our food was great - as you’d expect. But, I ordered Dover Sole. In other Rick venues - always asked “on or off the bone”. Not a word. The service generally was a combination of uninterested, distracted, and generally poor. We were approached for feedback...

Really good food, friendly and fast service, and a good selection of wines. They can also make you a custom cocktail - I had a cold and asked for a hot toddy and was not disappointed.

Being a big fan of Rick Stein and seafood, we booked a table for a family birthday. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel both welcome and valued. The staff were courteous and helpful and offered advice around vegan and gluten preferences....

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary today and we had such a great experience. The food was of great quality and cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and friendly. I cannot wait to be back.

Very enjoyable food with great views of the Thames. Recommend the hake which was delicious.

UPDATE: 03.04 2023 It's been a while since l was here, had a fabulous lunch with their new affordable three course meal, and non alcoholic cocktail. . __________________________________ I have been coming here on various occasions to join friends for meals. Wonderful welcome, great service, staff attentive and friendly. We are so lucky to have a place like this to sit by the river and enjoy the view. Good menu, nice atmosphere and decor. They are very supportive to local comnunity groups.

Really poor show! Went yesterday sun 17th got a lovely window seat and that was the only good thing here. Scallops tasteless, lobster over cooked and not fresh! Rotten lettuce on the side. Even the dishes that were the same like 2 ordered rib eye steaks looked totally different! Should have known when told by server we couldn't have the tomato and mozzarella starter as they had complaints about it. Sorry to say the server was not even approachable enough to complain.

I booked this restaurant 3 months before i came from Australia to London. Very excited to go. The food was excellent, service good, and the location for atmosphete is perfect. We had a great night. Only thing was .. whrn it was time to leave we asked for a taxi. Was coming in 15 mins. Then cancelled. Next one 40 mins ! We gave up at 9.30 and walked across the road for a bus and made a long trip back to our hotel. Got home at 10.45. Of course, taxis are not your responsibility ... but it would be good if you could fo a deal with a local company to give them all the customer business of they would just come.

Beautiful and serene restaurant right on the Thames. Loved the decor with glass windows to the river, plants dangling from the ceiling, and colorful prints on the wall. Food was fresh and delicious and great reasonably priced wine list. Loved reading the insights about each wine on the menu. Service was fantastic and very attentive.
