Lovely food. I’ve had curried goat twice now and it’s delicious. I’ve been allowed a taster of the family’s jerk chicken and again, delicious. Really friendly staff, good amount of delicious food. What’s not to like?

Recently moved to the area & was delighted to see this at the end of my road, big fan of West Indian food, finally got to go in there & have to say, I wasn't disappointed. Friendly staff, clean shop, good food & a big portion, enjoyed it & can see this being a regular thing.

Restaurante super caribeño en el barrio. El personal es cálido y amable y el servicio es rápido. La comida es auténtica, deliciosa y generosa. Afortunadamente, vivo en el camino, así que tengo problemas para volver. ¡Gracias!

I discovered this place a couple of months ago and I love it, I have been back twice since. The service is a bit slow, but I don't mind the wait as you are guaranteed a lovely fresh meal. The portions are generous and at a good price. I just wish I lived closer!

Yesterday me and my boyfriend got Curry Goat, Oxtail and Rice and Peas. Very very generous portion for "small" and good price. Delicious authentic tasting Jamaican food. First time I had hardough bread in ages it brought back memories! I'll definitely come by again. They were out of guiness punch, maybe I'll get it next time! xxxx

I haven't eaten here for a long time, but went back this week as in the area one evening. Lovely food, generous portions and decent price - £5.50 for a decent size portion or rice and peas, chicken stew and salad. Plenty of choice on the menu and friendly service.

Rice and peas is part of East Dulwich's cultural heritage. Given that for most of a century, East Dulwich was a build by numbers late Victorian London brick suburb that followed the railways out to Kent, that isn't much of a benchmark to beat. Solid and secure without being in the slightest way interesting or challenging - the Spaghetti Bolognese choice in an expansive menu of Italian food. Not much happens here apart from talk of house prices and primary schools. Somewhere to buy, drop *gifted* children, extend and inhabit until the sheer futility and pointlessness of a zone 2/3 existence pushes you into ending it all. and moving to Whitstable. This is why R&P deserves a plaque on its storefront. Its a constant, a focal point, a rock of reassurance in the tsunami of gentrification. Its been there since before I was even aware East Dulwich existed, before anyone wealthy knew east Dulwich existed, for decades now. It is unimposing, snugly sandwiched in a grimy parade of functional shops that include a gentrifier blitzkrieg bakery, an indian food take away, a dry cleaners, a fried chicken shop and a dry cleaners. The counter is high, the walls plastered with posters advertising the latest Oliver Samuel plays and pictures of Jamaica. A few chairs dot the miniscule space and there is usually someone hunched over the shelf/ table, working their way through a silvery carton of pungent and mouth watering hot food & a can of root beer. This places of famous for its rice and peas - although they are beans - hot, startlingly spicy and appealing moist. A container of R&P is a filling meal in itself, but combine it with a couple of pieces of barely hanging onto the bone jerk Chicken, and you have hot street food nirvana for the masses. The R&P clientele are wide ranging, from older people looking for a taste of the old country, to drunken Bankers on their way back from the station & locals getting their regular jerk hit. Mains are about a fiver, going up to maybe 8 quid for a big rice and peas with some jerk and homemade 'slaw - and this will feed a couple of people... Service is not speedy or efficient , although massively friendly - people randomly appear behind the counter and wander off to the kitchen , but you always get served and you just have to take in on board that is not somewhere where the staff have matching baseball caps and everything is pre cooked, pre measured and pre digested. No farrow and ball, no lattes, no artisan bread, no loyalty card waiting to be stamped, but delicious fresh hot food from a small menu that has been tested to death over the years and never fails to meet its expectations. You can pop down the road for a faddish Indonesian Souvalaki or a Tierra Del Fuego puffin chapati, but there is no whispering faddishness about the R&P shop. It will be there long, long after the Mexican chow mein hot dog van in Peckham has been sent to the great scrap heap in the sky. Producing the same decent food to an appreciative and ever evolving set of customers.

A lot like home cooking, as bit hit and miss, but always good enough and sometimes lovely. Great food to pick up after work, when too tired to cook.

I have a real soft spot for Caribbean food ever since I came back from a holiday to the Caribbean 22yrs ago! I have tried countless places across London. I then moved to East Dulwich 15yrs ago and the first place I tried was here for a fix of the good stuff. The food is consistently good. My personal favourite is the brown stewed chicken with rice and peas. Also love the salt fish patties. The staff are friendly and helpful. If anyone can suggest a place you can get better Caribbean food than this in London I'd love to know! If you haven't been you must go!

A local Caribbean take away in East Dulwich I get a take away from here regularly. The rice and peas are nice and moist. The jerk chicken, oxtail and curry goat are superb. My current favourite is the fried chicken. Service is attentive but slow, so if in a rush, cal your order ahead.

I am so excited to see Rice and Peas on trip advisor but also a bit nervous that everyone will go there and there won't be enough jerk chicken for me! My partner and I have been going to this takeaway for a good ten years and it is one of our favourite takeaway meals. There is a good selection on the menu and the portions are very generous and tasty. The jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, rice and peas and plaintain are my favourite but the fried chicken and dumplings are also yummy and we always ask for a side order of gravy. They do lots of other stuff like goat and fish too. The owner of the takeaway is very nice and personable and will always stop and have a chat with you. On one occasion we phoned him and made an order to take to a party and the owner was very obliging, needless to say the food went down a treat. The ladies in the takeaway are also very nice and helpful. The food is very good value too and so this place gets a massive thumbs up from us.

The food is incredible. Get the fish ceviche - picante. The sauce has an incredible flavour and heat. All the sides and starters were delicious; tamales, yuca fries, fried plantain - again an amazing green chili sauce. The portions are very generous - I was fully satisfied but still had a plateful of fish to eat. Pisco sours were delicious. We'll be coming back again and again. The ambience was set off with some beautiful afro Peruvian music. The service was friendly and efficient. 10 out of 10.

Had a mid week dinner here and am sorry but it's just too expensive for what it is and where it is. I the food when it arrived was a good quality but the quantities were small. Went with a friend and we had 1 drink each and bill came to £60pp. This was started main dessert, think there's better value places on the same street for better quality and better pricing. Expected more from Camberwell.
