Riccarton Inn Pub & Dining in Edinburgh, City of

We had dinner twice at the Riccarton Inn Pub & Dining - excellent food, friendly service, good ambience. The four of us wish that this pub was in out neighborhood, as we would eat here regularly. The Sunday roast was so tender and delicious, the beef pie and the chicken and chorizo pies were yummy - served with new potatoes and veggies, and the fish and chips were excellent. Free parking available in rear of building.

Have visited several times . The good aspects are a good range of beer and spirits. Wine selection is better than most pubs and very reasonable prices. The food - choices we make are consistently good . The chowder is excellent as are the specials. Some dishes can be hit or miss but mostly good. Service is normally friendly and efficient. One female staff member could make more effort and cheer up. The biggest negative is the dogs welcome policy. Dog owners are of the impression that everyone loves dogs ! Well news flash we don’t and we don’t want to watch them peeing on the floor. There is ample covered space in the nice outdoor area for dogs and owners. I would applaud the management if they restricted pets to this area.

We stayed for one night and although the room was basic and comfortable, the cleanliness standards could have been improved. There was smell coming from the shower drain and the walls were marked and it felt it just needed a good clean down. Staff were lovely and made us food even after the kitchen was closed, breakfast was also really nice. Just a little bit disappointed with our room.

Gorgeous Sunday lunch with our whole family, nothing was too much of a problem, roast beef and pie were top notch! Also excellent understanding of allergies and happy to help out and answer any questions. Would def recommend and go again.

Please do not go to there quiz on a Tuesday the quizmaster john is not a nice person, called me names I responded maybe too much and I got barred in kinleith arms, even though on video I never moved from my seat he approached me in a threatening way now I'm being accused by proprietor Ben and director gillian mcintee of threaten him for no reason, please tell me there has to be reason hmm

Went here for Lunch and was not impressed at all by the place. The decor is old and stale. The food was not good at all, my wife had the steak sandwich which was barely edible “the worse she’s had” The fish and chips was slightly better but very greasy. The staff were not the most welcoming however they did become warmer during the meal. Not on my places to return list.

Great place to stay, welcoming staff, lovely food and excellent old style pub. Room was sufficient and very quiet allowing a good nights sleep. Great for parking and would definitely stay again

Enjoy visiting this pub . Very good selection of beers , gins , whisky and wines. Food has always been very enjoyable. Recent visit threw up a couple of disappointing details. Very small portion of Calamari but more annoying service charge being included in bill. I’m pretty sure this is new as I had always tip cash on previous visits. £30 service disappointed me because we poured our own wine visited the bar to order and collect drinks throughout our meal. I have to point out that if a venue is charging service then make sure staff cover all service needs of customers.

Went here for dinner with work colleagues, the choice of food was excellent, we went for Cullen Skink to start and fish & chips, the portions were huge and the food was to a very good quality, friendly staff too.

After a warm welcome here we settled down to a high quality pub meal in relaxed surroundings. The Cullen Skink and haggis fritters were stand-outs as starters. For mains, the special with a mix of sea bass and bream, pesto-infused mash and vine tomatoes was delicious. The Classic Italian pizza was packed with tasty toppings and the prosciutto-wrapped chicken with haggis-infused mash and asparagus was apparently delicious. The cocktails and mocktails were excellent and the wine choices were good. This was a great find and added to what was a fun family get together.

Regular visitors for the food, and it never fails to impress. Great food, attentive and friendly staff add to the ambiance. Just a nice place to visit and enjoy a nice night out

Six of us here for lunch today. Great atmosphere, welcoming and cosy. Attentive and polite staff made this visit pleasurable. The food was delicious, piping hot and served quickly although the restaurant was very busy. I would recommend this restaurant and would definitely visit again

We stayed here with our dog bleu, he was made to feel very welcome, even had his bed in the bar when we had our meal. Everyone was very nice friendly and helpful, food was delicious. Rooms are nice clean and warm, decor abit dated but we were only sleeping here, bed very comfortable. Only down side we could come up with was the room was too warm.

Friendly place, quick service. Reasonable prices, attentive staff. Starters were spot on. Steak and ale crostini, as was the main course venison. Too full for a dessert. We will return to try more food from the menu and perhaps a dessert...

There was soccer game on in every television set. This place is full of loud people. Food wise, it is expensive and lacks texture and care in all the dishes we had.

Wow! The reviews of this place do not lie - it was amazing. I had booked online for a family table of 5 for a Saturday night, If I hadn't booked we'd never have gotten in - the place was buzzing and every table was full. We had a lovely big round table by the fireplace, the service was brilliant and the menu has something for everyone. The seasonal menu has fantastic hearty winter dishes - venison, wild boar, chicken & haggis as well as fish and chips and pies which change daily. The portions were huge, the desserts were amazing and also huge - we could hardly finish them though as we were stuffed! We will definitely be back.

Warm and welcoming staff greeted us. The food was lovely - I had chicken wrapped in prosciutto with risotto. My wife is coeliac and had a chicken burger which was lovely and safe - a key thing fir here. We felt well looked after by the staff throughout. Visited the Riccarton Inn for a booked lunch for three people today. The service from everyone from entering and being seated through to the end of the meal was first class-very friendly and attentive staff. The Sunday Roast on the menu was one of the best I've ever had and we all liked what we ordered and ate. Great warm comfortable venue and I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Cullen Skink - a superb warm roll, was fantastic. Hearty, creamy, filling. Calamari, very good. Boar sausage and mash, top class. Some chairs (tartan ones) are excellent, some of the other skinny ones are uncomfortable and I suggest avoiding these. Service was excellent. We will return.

A must for food if in the area , Fresh produce made even more delicious cooked to perfection . Portions are very generous, you won’t leave empty or dissatisfied.

My husband wanted to try this pub because of their wide selection of cask ales (which were great) - but it turned out to be a great find. We had a wonderful meal; everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. We weren’t rushed, there were no long delays and the service was excellent. Arancini and pork tenderloin were highlights, as was the Orkney toffee & fudge ice cream. We shall be returning!

Decent ‘pub grub’ food - nothing sophisticated. Food arrived in decent time. Pie - lots of filling, with a pastry top; Cajun burger a bit disappointing as was not really ‘cajun’. Pizza decent size, but not awesome. Really good sized puddings, though probably from catering supplier - not a lot ‘home made’ in this establishment.

We had Sunday lunch here; the roast. It was impeccable. DW said it was the first time she'd had pub Yorkshire puddings that "seemed like they were trying to make them nice", and I said it was the first time I'd had them where it seemed like they'd made them at all. I checked with the bar-staff (very friendly and polite) who confirmed that they were all home-made. They had a nice selection of real ales and a large selection of malt whisky (which I did not try... but didn't really need to). If it were closer to home I think I'd be there quite a lot. I'm sorry I left it so long to visit this one as it's a real winner.

We stayed for one night at the start of the NC500. It was about 30 minute drive into Edinburgh, but nicely located in a quiet area, The room was clean, bed was comfy, albeit it quite low and soft, but all in all was sufficient to meet our needs, however could possibly benefit from a refurb in the near future. The meal we had in the evening was delicious, many gluten free options to choose from. The staff were very friendly and more than happy to meet my coeliac needs. They provided gluten free toast in the morning for breakfast, where we sat outside in the lovely seating area to the rear of the Inn, with a good selection of other ‘cooked breakfast’ elements. Would defo visit again if in the area.

There were 7 of us, we had split up and arranged to meet up again at 2 pm for lunch. We had already reserved a table. Some of us arrived too early, this was not a problem as we could sit at our table while we waited for the others. Staff were very friendly and specially made up a drink for our grandson. Food was very good and we all enjoyed it.

El bar está lleno y es un buen lugar para comer. Las 4 comidas que tuvimos fueron diferentes y todas muy buenas, entregadas con un gran servicio. Posiblemente un poco caro para comida de bar, pero merece la pena.

Entré aquí para el almuerzo del domingo con mi esposa y mis tres hijos mayores. El servicio fue muy amable y el ambiente agradable, pero el rosbif y Yorkshire pudd era comestible. . . realmente pobre, creo que a alguien le deben faltar un par de sandles, la carne era muy dura. Así que estaba saliendo pensando que nunca volvería cuando escuché que la mesa de al lado había enviado la suya. Así que pensé por qué no pedir un reembolso, al menos 50:50. Sin embargo, el gerente fue muy profesional y me dio un reembolso completo, me agradeció por los comentarios y dijo que se aseguraría de que no usaran "ese proveedor" la próxima vez. Eso fue muy bienvenido, pero no explica el pudín de Yorkshire no comestible. Sin embargo, las otras comidas eran muy buenas.

I can't remember the last time I went in a "local" pub and had such a good selection on the menu. I had halloumi fries to start and a steak and Guinness special pie. The vegetarian options were more than satisfactory too.

Very friendly, helpful staff, meals excellent and all home cooked need to book a table if wanting to eat as the pub gets very busy with diners.We stayed for two nights the bedrooms are dated and a bit tired but spotlessly clean towels and toiletries provided the ensuite is in need of an upgrade but this is reflected in the price. Perfect for a short stay bus stops directly outside the pub so easy to get into Edinburgh.

Visited the Riccarton today and was very impressed by both the quality of the food and the excellent service. A lovely menu from which there was a varied and enticing choice. Starters and mains were beautifully presented and so well cooked.

En busca de comida de pub en esta parte de Edimburgo, no puedes equivocarte con un viaje a Ricci. Nunca he tenido una mala comida y la selección del draft es excelente. Visite en invierno y puede sentarse junto a una chimenea acogedora y cálida. Sin embargo, el servicio puede ser un poco impredecible, pero no creas que eso debería desalentarte de una visita.

Good chicken ham and leak Pie 🥧 made in house. Deep fill with thin crisp pastry crust, delicious! Dog Friendly too.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch here next to a lovely warm fire. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our dogs were welcomed in too and given water. Bill was very reasonable.

Visited on two separate occasions. First for Sunday lunch - the food was tasteless and not very nice; the 3 of us had the beef Sunday roast, which should be a mainstay for a pub to get right. Second time for a lunchtime drink - the pub was full so we were happy to stand/sit at the end of the bar, where there was lots of space and a few stools. Initially the young barmaid was pleasant enough when taking our drinks order. However, a bit later a large group of locals came in and seemed to resent our presence at the end of the bar, ordering over us and the older barmaid gave drinks/ change out through the middle of our group of 4. We were made to feel very unwelcome and found the behaviour very rude. We won’t be back. It used to be a good pub but has gone downhill.

Visited a few times with friends for a lunch time meal. The meal has always been tasty, decent sized portions and we've enjoyed it, the service not so. The man taking food orders is not friendly and not interested in making a good impression.

The Inn is essentially a pub with some letting bedrooms which range in size from pretty small to reasonable.

We went to the Riccarton Inn most weeks for months and couldn't fault it at all. However, having not been for a few months I was very disappointed in the drop in service.

Our first visit as a group of walkers for almost a year and fish and chips all round again. I had noticed on TripAdvisor a few poor reviews since our last visit and had wondered if the standard had fallen.

14 of us gathered last Saturday for a special family occasion. Whilst the waiting staff were friendly and efficient and the order of drinks came within minutes, we arrived at 1.50pm and were still waiting for our food at 3pm. No-one came out to apologise, no-one kept us up to date, and we were not offered any olives or bread to tide us over. It transpired that the chef had burned himself and had to go to hospital but surely it would have been good service if someone had explained and, as I say, offered a little something for the ridiculous wait. I dropped an email off to them a few days later saying how disappointed we were and sending our sincere condolences to the chef, but have not had the courtesy of a reply. Very poor service in what I always regarded was a very friendly Inn.

We called in first thing in the morning as they were cleaning and preparing for lunch service but they happily served us with a variety of coffee orders.

Visited here with a friend and whilst the service was quick and efficient and the food was very tasty the prices left a little to be desired however the quality of the food almost justifies the cost.

Desde el menú cambiaron unos meses atrás, no he sido molestado de ir allí para el almuerzo. . . . Pero estoy encantado de haberlo hecho. Principalmente porque el queso dejó de ir macaroni ya no estaba en el menú. El pollo y el puerro principal es deliciosa, por no mencionar la creme brule - hemos estado el último par de semanas y estamos deseando volver.

Walked up the road to get away from gore food with no great expectations but all three courses were amazing Cullen slink. Vegetable lasagne and a cheese cake to die for could not recommend it enough

Hemos visitado una familia dos veces recientemente (con nuestro perro). Los perros son bienvenidos pero sólo puede sentarse en el bar o fuera, así que tenedlo en cuenta cuando haga la reserva. El asado los domingos era delicioso. Las tartas son preciosas también. Las raciones son un poco grande lateral. El servicio es amable y rápido.

Visitamos el Riccarton Inn a tomar una cerveza y ver el fútbol. El restaurante y el bar estaban ocupados en este martes por la noche con la gente disfrutando de una comida. La comida era tan buena que nos comimos allí también. Muy bien presentada la comida y una amplia variedad de menú para satisfacer a los vegetarianos y consumidores de carne. Si estás buscando comida interesante y un buen ambiente de pub local, este es el lugar.
