Ribbles of Holmfirth in Kirklees

Popped in for a mid-morning coffee during our visit to Holmfirth. The owner was very welcoming and we were soon chatting like old friends. The chef, who came down with a sample of the food for the owner to try, was a lovely character as well. Locals were coming in to eat during our visit and you could tell they were regular customers. It really felt like somewhere you'd be happy to return to again and again.

Literally could not have asked for more from our visit today, we were warmly welcomed with a dog and toddler in tow. Service and food were both great. Would highly recommend!

We popped in for a light lunch, the food was good and the service was excellent. The staff went that bit further to accommodate our needs, all with a smile.

I don't usually put myself forward to write a review often due to a busy life..however I can't forget the warmth we got from the lady that served us. We came with two children, sat upstairs..it was nostalgic. Nice and cosy furniture and the friendliest of staff. The coffee was lovely. Next time we'll stop for a bite too. Thank you again.

What a lovely cafe! Warm and welcoming, food excellent (the brown bread I had was so soft!) and drinks great too. We shall be back (with our fab Will!) for another lunch very soon!

Didn’t know it existed until we couldn’t find a dog friendly cafe in Holmfith. It was recommended by a competitor. We were out for the day and called for a morning snack , very tasty and nice people. My wife left her phone there and we had to return a couple of hours later, so had an unplanned lunch there, Couldn’t fault it and we will return! Bit quirky, definitely different and a good experience!

Lovely little find in the centre of Holmfirth. Very reasonably priced and lovely choice. Went in wanting a nice coffee and good sandwich choice. Not disappointed with either. The staff are lovely too. Would definitely go back and recommend.

A must visit cafe. Super friendly atmosphere, dog and little people friendly. The best bean and cheese toasty in town. Can’t wait to come back.

Stumbled across this beautiful little place and popped in and had the best flap jack we had ever had,the tea and coffee was also very nice. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. Definitely worth a visit while you're visiting this beautiful little village.

We had not really wandered around this bit of Holmfirth before. We came out of a different door of the mill shop and found Ribbles opposite! We only wanted a coffee and a cake, I had a rhubarb and ginger flapjack and hubby had a chocolate one, both quite yummy! Wish we had been more hungry as all the food we saw coming out looked lovely! Both ladies were really friendly and funny! We will return when in Holmfirth again!

Lovely little cafe with a very welcoming atmosphere. There is seating upstairs so if it looks full from the window make sure you head in and ask if any tables are available upstairs. We had a tuna and cheese toastie along with a platter made up of the roasted veg and feta, a caramelised onion tart and a chorizo dish and they were all delicious.

I have been out and about socialising my puppy for the last few weeks. Thankfully there are lots of places in our area that are fully dog friendly. Whilst we used to be regular visitors to this establishment for a good number of years with our other dogs, we haven’t been so much since the advent of the pandemic. It was nice to return to find it just as welcoming. My puppy and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Well done ladies thank you

On our hols, we popped in for breakfast, delicious, value for money. Friendly efficient service Closes Monday and Tuesday.

We came for breakfast and it was fabulous, my poached eggs were done to perfection and I told the chef. My husbands cheese on toast with bacon was the same. We would certainly be back here when in the area again and would recommend it. Brilliant and friendly staff.

Yet again we arrived at Ribbles two years on from taking Eldest Grandson to Ribbles for a birthday treat. This time was the turn of his younger brother. on both occasions the boys (aged 8 & 9) asked for something not on the menu, and on both occasions the staff were only pleased to accommodate them. spending quality time talking to their young customers. On both occasions we, has a family enjoyed quality food, service and conversation. We live approx 45mins away but will be back again soon.

Food was the beautiful and by far one of the best salads around. Cakes were amazing and the vibe of the whole place was really lovely :)

We (a family of 8 and 2 dogs) were in Holmfirth yesterday doing a ‘Treasure Trail’ and wanted somewhere mid trail for some lunch. We found Ribbles and were absolutely delighted with the welcome, the food and their dog friendliness - even treats for the dogs! Can’t recommend Ribbles highly enough.

We visited holmfirth 15th September and decided to call in to ribbles for lunch and we were certainly not disappointed. The greeting was very welcoming and friendly, we ordered paninis and coffees the food was excellent and well presented. We will definitely be returning when we next visit holmfirth

Love coming into Ribbles either alone for a quiet coffee, or with friends, and always being greeted by the same big smiles. Food is consistently tasty and good value for money, and there is a great selection of drinks and cakes. Lovely gem of Holmfirth.

Have been to this café on several occasions (both before and after 'lockdown'), since the new owners took over (hadn't been before). It has a warm and inviting atmosphere and the staff are attentive without being too prominent. On one occasion, I had the vegetarian breakfast: a very tasty choice which I thoroughly recommend! We took home a portion of the dandelion and burdock cake, too! Would recommend without reservation.

Been numerous times to this lovey Holmfirth cafe. Food is always brilliant, from the vegetarian breakfasts to their panini sandwiches, great coffee and lovely hosts. Dog friendly too.

Fantastic cafe full of charm. The owners are very friendly and give you such a warm welcome. The food and drinks are good portions, great quality and very tasty.I've had many-a-cake so I know a good one when I taste one and these are as good as I've had.I can't rate 'Ribbles' highly enough and we will definitely be going back.

We popped into Ribbles today to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. The place we had planned to go to was full and I’m glad now because we haven’t been to Ribbles since it changed hands. The decor changes are lovely, I love the piano. The food was really tasty and the staff were really friendly. The got chocolate was delicious, proper hot chocolate and not the watered down powdery stuff. We’ll be making more regular future visits.

Lovely friendly staff, great food and great coffee! Staff were very welcoming, and considering we had 3 dogs with us, that wasn’t a problem! Dogs made very welcome too! We had panini with Brie, apple and onion chutney- extremely tasty and good portion! Even the salad on the side was delicious, with a vey tasty dressing on! Definitely recommend this place!

We visited here for the first time today. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food menu has everything you could possibly want for a cafe/bistro. Great fresh food including a good selection of cakes, great service, great value. We will definitely go again.

Me and my boyfriend went for a day out to Holmfirth and found this gem of a place. They were so welcoming to our chocolate labrador Lola and offered her treats. We had the best hot chocolates ever, I really do mean ever! and some delicious cake of which there was so much choice.The owners are such lovely ladies, I became ill out of nowhere just before leaving (Labyrinthitis) and they did everthing they could for me to get me comfortable and calm me down. I had to sit there a good few hours whilst I waited to come round enough to get home and wait for a lift. They took care of my dog for me whilst my boyfriend had to help me upstairs and gave me peppermint tea bags to smell to take some of the vertigo away. I can't express how grateful I am to those ladies they went above and beyond customer care and service and handled the situation amazingly.Two genuinely lovely women running a fabulous cafe that they clearly pour their heart and soul into!

Had breakfast for two, it was fab, hot and with lovely hot teas and coffees, we did not have a dog but they let them in and was not an issue, lovely staff and I just loved the ambience and the old wooden tables, upstairs seating also available so don’t turn away if you think it is full

We called in for a late lunch on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. The ladies who looked after us were friendly and welcoming. Our lunch arrived quickly and was delicious, even though there was plenty we still managed a slice of cake each. I’ve never had Dandelion and Burdock cake but now would highly recommend. We’ll visit again and bring our dog next time as they seem to be as welcome as the humans.

1st but definitely not the last visit to this lovely warm and welcoming coffee house,had a light bite for lunch which was excellent served by extremely friendly people who made the experience heartwarming on a miserable winters day,can’t wait to return!

A close friend organised afternoon tea with fizz for my 50th birthday. There were 22 of us, fitting snugly into the upstairs room. We were brilliantly looked after, with a delicious selection of goodies to work through, plenty of tea & coffee as well. It was my first visit, but I've been back since for breakfast. Lovely! Highly recommended.

I had done my usual research on TA before we arrived for our weekend in Holmfirth and quickly found Ribbles when it was time for coffee. We weren't disappointed and loved the simple decor, especially the 'cake tin lighting'!! Obviously, if we were having coffee, we must have a piece of cake - I chose the Yorkshire Brack with cheese (a Yorkshire thing) and the OH chose one of the other delicious cakes. All excellent and very reasonable - lovely staff and surroundings and would thoroughly recommend.

Very pleasant atmosphere. Good food and service, plus friendly staff. We came across it by accident, and were glad that we did. Would definitely go back.

I called in for lunch and found the downstairs taken over with Mums and toddlers so headed upstairs into an oasis of calm. The menu is compact but with plenty of Pannies, Stuffed jacket potatoes, sandwiches and a specials board. Service was prompt and polite plus free WiFi. Good cup of tea and smaller portions of all meals are available.

After our Hen weekend stay in Holmfirth we ended it with a chilled out breakfast at Ribbles. We were a large group of 9, we received the warmest of welcomes and were easily seated upstairs all together.

I recently visited here with a group of friends for brunch. It looks underwhelming from the outside but inside is really nicely decorated and all the staff were very polite and welcoming. I had the vegetable and goats cheese spud and it was delicious. Service was very quick even though we arrived at the same time as a number of other parties.

Called in here by chance on a rainy day after finding our first two choices closed. It was quite full downstairs so we sat in the upstairs room which I thought was even better than the ground floor. We had sandwiches and a pot of tea.Good quality and very filling served by friendly staff.

Not only a tasty lunch but friendly, dog-welcoming staff who provided a dish of water AND an extra rasher of bacon for our dog! We sat in a little courtyard, upstairs/outside as the inside area allocated for dogs was full (that shows how popular it is!) and had a lovely peaceful lunch in the sun. Service was excellent and loo was clean and tidy.

Had afternoon tea and cake here on Sunday, was quiet but friendly. We had tea and cakes, a chocolate cake and lemon cheesecake. Surprised it wasn’t busier as cute place. Also served light lunches which we didn’t have.

Made very welcome when visited for lunch yesterday with my daughter and baby grandson. Very good menu, lovely food and excellent customer service - the waitress even held the baby whilst we ate our meal! Definitely recommend.

Was most impressed with the kindness shown to our dog when the proprietor gave him a carrot for a treat! This was our 2nd visit and we'll certainly return again if we're in the area.

We have just returned from our first visit for a family party and we will definitely be back. The food, atmosphere and hospitality were all first class. A very pretty converted cottage makes a lovely Tearoom, we popped in for a quick coffee and light lunch. Great strong coffee and delicious pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Lovely friendly service from cook and waitress, good prices and a comfortable place to relax for a while. Think we’ve found our new regular coffee stop!

Love holmfirth had a good look around and chose this place. Old fashion style. Had ground floor and upstairs seating. Lady at counter said to choose from boards for food and drinks. We ordered bacon sandwich and cheeseand tuna paniniband hot chocolate and decaf tea.then took a seat. Was not bad seats and tables were ok for a quick snack but not comfy chairs.our drinks arrived and were fine? I was happy to get decaf tea. Hot chocolate was nice. Not too long our good brought. We enjoyrd food and panini was lovely. I decided to use toilet but on top floor so had to climb 2 flights so good for healthy not likes of me. But apart from stairs ?a nice place for a quick snack and staff polite too.

Freshly made food. Daily specials. Very friendly service. Great coffee. 2 choices of Vegan cakes available but all the cakes looked delicious. Lovely interiors and ambiance with a small outside terrace on the first floor. Toilet top floor worth a visit as it's so pretty and smells delightful!

I visited for the first time a few days ago and was so impressed. Beautiful decor, full of character and sums up the best of Holmfirth. Downstairs is warm and cosy, with lovely low lights and upstairs is light, airy and equally lovely.

I found Holmfirth an odd place to select somewhere for lunch. There is a pricey pub near the bus station, a fish and chip restaurant that may provide excellent fare but gave the impression the chairs might be screwed to the floor, and a number of other eating places that seemed very reluctant to let you know what they offered before you entered. So Ribbles was a bit of pot luck, selected because it looked nice from the outside, but it turned out to be very good. The fare is of the sandwiches, baked potatoes, paninis and cakes variety, home-made in the kitchen located on the second floor in the weaver's loft. We had two paninis and an enormous pot of tea for less than £15. The café has seating on two floors, but the single toilet in on the top floor, so don't wait until you are desperate!

Lovely for a cuppa, a scone and nice staff. The place is quirky with a nice seating area both upstairs and down. It's dog friendly which is a real bonus and they even have home made treats for our 4 legged mutt. We'd highly recommend this place.

Following a hen party, my friends and I were looking for a quick breakfast stop. We found this local cafe and we were welcomed and led to the second floor which fitted all 18 of us in perfectly. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Breakfast was cooked fresh, and was a great quality! Highly recommend this cafe

Had the most amazing breakfast here this morning! Walked in with 15 other people looking for somewhere to have breakfast! From the second we arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady who was highly accommodating! We had amazing service, amazing home cooked food and a beautiful setting! Would highly recommend this place! We came here on our way home from a Hen Weekend for breakfast with a group of 20 people unexpectedly, the service was second to none. Lynn and Holly worked exceptionally hard and provided us with beautiful breakfasts for a very reasonable price. Lovely coffee in a lovely environment. If I ever return to Holmfirth I will be back.

Came here a couple of weeks ago with my partner. We have recently moved to the area and trying to try out all of the local cafes/restaurants. This is definitely one of the best cafes we’ve eaten in in Holmfirth!

Popped in twice recently on our first visits to Holmfirth. Very friendly and excellent coffee and cakes.

Lovely food, great menu and superb coffee.. definitely would recommend .. 5 star + . We had the panini’s and BLT which was beautiful. The coffee comes out with the nicest crockery and miniature milk churns.. the decor is different, with baking tins as lamp shades.

This place is amazing i recommend it to any one who wants a bit of food and who dont want a long wait a lots of money to pay. The food is outstanding with all your problems covered. I loved my visit and i will happily come again. The best place/cafe EVER well done for your amazing time put into my meal.

We had breakfast here on most mornings of our Holmfirth trip. June ( the owner) is friendly, efficient and serves up a wonderful breakfast menu in cosy immaculately clean surroundings. Lovely cheerful ambience helped along by nice music and plenty of magazines to enjoy.

Went for a bicycle ride to Holmfirth for breakfast and out of the many options we chose the Ribbles of Holmfirth because we saw a sign stating it had the best coffee in Holmirth. Not sure if it was the best coffee but it certainly was lovely, as was the full English breakfast and cheesy scrambled eggs on toast. Nothing was too much trouble and the owner was very helpful in advising us where to park our bikes so we could keep our eye on them. Would not hesitate in going back and would possibly try the little sitting out area next time.

We made a very quick visit to Holmfirth primarily to see the 'Last of the Summer Wine' Museum on our way to the Peak District. We arrived late in the day and were in need of food and coffee! Ribbles of Holmfirth was about to close, but in we popped to have some great coffee and delicious cake. The place was so welcoming and the owner very friendly and keen to assist us. We ended up having a great chat and were sorry not to be staying longer as it seemed there was more we could do there. Holmfirth is another place we will have to revisit if we return to Yorkshire and we will definitely return to Ribbles of Holmfirth to have more delicious food!

Went here today about 12 ish for coffee , two old gits on motorcycles and were warmly welcomed, not turned away as we may be yobs !!!!!

They open early for drinks and food serving is slightly later although they did accommodate us when we went in a little to early and still served up really nice bacon and egg rolls. The drinks are very nice with hot chocolate being made with real chocolate rather than powder and it was rude to say no to the cream and marshmallows. Dogs are welcome to with free biscuit and water bowls - if you are not a dog lover don't be put off the dogs in there where all very civilised and also the café has a couple of floors to choose from.

Having been turned away from another well-known cafe in the town due to a private party, we stumbled across Ribbles and were delighted with the welcome. The lady owner was extremely friendly, and went out of her way to make us (and two dogs) feel at home (including bowls of water and chews on the upstairs terrace). Our party very much enjoyed the yummy cakes as well! Would definitely recommend and hope to return sometime! Thanks and God bless.

I'm not sure if the lady was a waitress or the owner (short blonde hair) but was very condescending and liked to interfere. Not good for babies as there are no baby changing facilities unless you want to put your baby on the floor of the bathroom!

We first discovered Ribbles in January this year when we were spending a snowy weekend in nearby Slaithwaite. We loved it! We've just enjoyed the bank holiday weekend in Holmfirth and visited for the second time (torrential rain this time!) - happy to report it was just as good as our first visit! Breakfast was delicious - good quality ingredients, cooked fresh and piping hot. Perfect! The coffee is very good here, too, and we're quite particular about our coffee!!! We sat upstairs in lovely surroundings and our little boy was very impressed with the colouring books and crayons that he could use. The ladies that looked after us were very friendly and the prices are very reasonable. What more could you want? We'll definitely be coming back when next in the area. Thank you!
