I attended with my partner and her parents and had the most amazing experience dining I’ve had in quite a while, from the atmosphere, the great service all the way to the delicious meals, I had a fantastic time overall and would highly recommend anyone to go for any occasion. 10/10

We are both vegetarians. We visited the restaurant for our Wedding Anniversary. The fizz was cold and truly ' bottomless' , no skimping at all, glasses kept topped up. The food was amazing, lovely savoury and sweet options and plenty of it. All home made. The crockery was lovely. The service by Valentino and Toby was brilliant. Priced so reasonably. A great experience, we will definitely return.

Went for pre-booked Christmas lunch on Christmas day with 5 family members. I was personally disappointed, given the price of the meal. The vegetables were almost non-existent and I didn't feel as through I'd had a proper, traditional Christmas dinner. We pre-ordered a bottle of wine and paid for it, but the staff didn't seem to know this and I had to show proof that I had paid. I had been hoping that it would have been more of a relaxing experience. A mediocre meal but the surroundings were nice. I as surprised that we were not asked for any feedback afterwards.

We were (20 of us) looking forward to a nice meal and disco, the only thing enjoyable about the night was the company and DJ, the food was very disappointing, poor quality from an establishment that has a very good reputation. The desert was the worst thing, I felt like we were fobbed off with the food & a couple of people were missing stuffing & chipolatas. Won't be back next year.

We booked a family meal and when we called they asked us to pre order our starters and mains which was strange. Then when we arrived we had to wait 40 minutes for the starters to arrive. Mine was lukewarm and the others weren’t very exciting. Next, the mains arrived and were average at best. I had slow cooked lamb but it was dry and tough. My wife had beef rib but there was more fat than beef and it didnt fall off the bone as it should have done. One person had the burger which was overcooked and dry. There were also problems with some of the other meals with comments ranging from tasteless to average. Desserts were ok and no complaints. The staff were nice and were quick with drinks but we were just underwhelmed by the food and won’t go back which is a shame because it is a nice place in general.

Great service from Hungarian lady. Food was average. BUT do not order the catch of the day. Large party so ordered in advance having seen wet fish for sale. It was unbelievably abysmal and no one could make recompense. Four small prawns on kebab with chorizo for £18!!

A family group of seven of us booked for Sunday lunch. I had requested when booking that we eat outdoors in the Courtyard as we were at the end of a week of sunny days. On arrival the staff member greeting us (the Manager?) suggested that we should eat indoors as he felt that it was about to rain, whilst flashing the weather forecast app at me on his mobile phone as he spoke. Our group agreed to this and were then shown to a table in the restaurant by a young waitress. We felt the menu was quite limited but 5 of us ordered the Sunday roast which was very good. There was a lack of atmosphere in the restaurant, a lack of any other diners and hardly any staff visible. We eventually had plates cleared and ordered from the dessert menu. We then waited and waited …. and waited. After approximately 30 minutes one of our party went back to the Reception desk to ask that our desserts were chased up. They were then brought to the table but unfortunately three of the six desserts ordered were inedible. Rhubarb crumble was a watery mush and “cheesecake” was a sundae dish with rock solid biscuit in the base and a soft, creamy topping on top of it. When I once again approached the staff member on Reception (seemingly the only person around) to advise that the three desserts were inedible and that I wanted them to be taken off the bill, he wanted to come over to our table to see these desserts. He proceeded to peer at them and prod them with a spoon, somewhat bizarrely. He then took all three away but at no time was there ANY apology. In summary, the Sunday roast food was lovely but the desserts were very poor. Our group won’t return to eat here due to the limited menu and the lack of any atmosphere, but mainly due to the incredibly slow service and the poor attitude of the Manager/Staff member. It didn’t rain either!

We were impressed with in-hotel Rhubarb Restaurant. Fairly small restaurant with a large bar and comfy lounge area, it is pleasantly designed and decorated in neutral colours, pictures and lighting. WE used the restaurant for lunch and breakfast. Breakfast was varied with continental, hot and cold and vegetarian options, the Yorkshire Breakfast was especially well cooked and very tasty. The lunch-time snack menu eaten in the comfy lounge was certainly varied and good value for money.

Booked here for the first time to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. 8 adults and two children under 5. Warm welcome, good professional service, ambience just right for the celebration and impressive facilities including a private outdoor seating area and plenty of free parking. Best of all was the Sunday lunch with traditional roast dinner and plenty of other choices including a delicious lamb Barnsley chop. At £12.95 for one course; £3 for an extra course, and £5 for a starter and a dessert was great value. Highly recommend Herriots and believe me, I'm normally hard to please!

This was a very enjoyable dining experience from beginning to end. We booked a table for an evening meal. We were promptly shown to our table on arrival. Service was very prompt and the waitress very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. Cold food was cold and hot food was hot and all very tasty. What I particularly enjoyed was the quietness. I have hearing problems which make it almost impossible for me to hear in noisy environments. I had no problem here. The overall experience was one of the best I have had in a long time. Well done Rhubarb!

A group of five went for lunch today. We were greeted and shown to our table, asked if we wanted water for the table and handed menus. When the water arrived, I asked if there was a gluten-free menu and the waiter said he would go and ask. A short time later a waitress came to take our order, I explained that I was still waiting for the gluten free menu and off she went. She came back and explained which dishes were or could be adapted to be gluten free. We ordered and our meals arrived, all looking delicious and well, presented. Unfortunately my Lamb Rump was very tough and inedible. When the waitress who had taken the order came to see if everything was o.k, I explained the problem with the lamb. She left the part eaten meal in front of me and said she would go and speak to the chef. The remainder of the party continued with their meals and the waiter came to clear the table. He asked if he could take my plate and I explained that his colleague was dealing with it. He cleared the remainder of the table, handed out desert menus and came back to take desert orders. He then just took the lamb plate away. The waitress never came back to the table again! The lamb meal was deducted from the bill, but no apology, no offer of an alternative.

Lauren greeted us at the door, temperature tested us and made us feel very welcome. Diners were spaced out perfectly, with discreet screens between tables that are a great safety measure and not in the least obstructive. We had a superb lunch and a great bottle of wine. Lauren looked after us throughout lunch and could not have done more, she’s delightful. We used to dine here regularly but haven’t been for two years until today. I’m not one for complaining but I feel I must on this occasion so to get to the point the scallops were over cooked like rubber the 2 Xmas dinners were not as good as the supermarket across the road the vegetables were stewed potato’s not cooked properly the turkey was nice but watch out for the stuffing it could break your tooth and the steak was not cooked properly it was well done not medium as asked for and it was tougher than an old boot. We sent the full steak back but still got charged for it. The manger had no idea how to Handel our complaint overall it was a terrible meal no wonder it was empty at 1.30pm on a Sunday. She told us there using a agency chef but he must of worked previously in that well know fast food establishment surely not a fancy hotel. Iam so disappointed it’s ruined our day never again

I was told there was no lunch time menu, when it was clearly advertised.I had to order at the bar because she was in a daydream and I couldn't get her attention. My mothers Lamb Shank was cold and slimy, my fish pie was very lacking in its main ingredient (FISH) and the chips which I didn't order with it but came anyway were under cooked. We were staying at Herriots Hotel for 3 nights and originally intended to walk into Skipton to try different places to eat each night. However the weather was terrible, so walking was out of the question, and looking around Skipton most of the pubs only offered traditional fare (fish & chips, sausage & mash etc.). As a result we ate in the hotel restaurant, Rhubarb, on two of the nights we were there. Both the bar area and the adjoining dining area are well decorated and look as though they have been refurbished fairly recently. Staying at the hotel, we took dinner in their restaurant, and the quality of food was excellent. The portion size was hearty, and food really nice.

This was my first, and probably my last, visit. I wanted a light- ish lunch, and decided to try the 'two courses for £12.'offer. No reflection on the chef's menu but I don't eat chicken and don't much like goat's cheese so my choice was made for me. I had crab cake followed by tagliatelle. My friend chose a goat cheese croquette starter. Interestingly, the other starter choice was tomato soup. My crab cake was swimming in a thick tomato sauce reminiscent of Heinz cream of tomato soup. It didn't taste of crab, and hardly of potato. The tagliatelle was with spinach and feta cheese, and the same sauce as my crab cake, which was creamy in texture and too sweet, offered with no Parmesan and lacking anything herby or sharp to offset the sweetness. My friend said that her starter was good. We had to remind them to bring our drinks. This came after I had been standing at the bar while a dispute with another customer was going on. The restaurant was practically empty because it was shortly before 2pm, and had it not been for the courtesy of a customer who pointed the waitress in my direction when she went to serve him, I might have been ignored for even longer. The waitresses were friendly and polite, but not observant.

We were venturing into Skipton as we often do not being prepared to have such a quality and relaxed meal. From entering the bar we had the option of the restaurant or the main bar in which to eat. Not being "dressed up" (if you need to be in these days?) we chose the restaurant with no problem on our appearance - tidy but not smart. We were thoroughly impressed by the quality and presentation of our chosen dishes from a very good menu including a separate fish specials menu. The service was professional and smiley, polite and proportioned to our needs. Thank you we really enjoyed it and next we will call in without wondering this time.

My best friend Julie and her husband peter came to stay at Herriots and we joined them for dinner wednesday evening. We all had 3 courses really superb. All starters excellent . Three of us had the lamb which was gorgeous. Peter had the bass which also excellent. Cheese and biscuits best for years and the cheesecake and creme brulee delicious. Service excellent. We will be going back and our friends will be staying again at herriotts.

I previously posted an excellent review regarding the resturant at Herriots on 24 March 2017. We decided it was so good we would have a return visit yesterday evening. We were informed the half price offers on Sunday evening have finished although they do accept Tastecards. I ordered the gammon, my husband the chicken pie and my son the steak pie. The portion sizes have halved - my husband struggled to find chicken in his pie which arrived without gravy although on asking beef gravy was served!!! My gammon was tough, the egg over cooked and one mushroom. No steak knife was brought for the gammon. We asked if there was a chip shortage as each plate only had around six chips on. We asked for more and a dish was brought which we were charged for - I didn't have the energy to argue for this charge to be removed as the young girl who served us was told she had been told to do this. I was very disappointed expecting the service and food to be as good as it was in March. Overall the food was edible but certainly nothing to write home about, small portions and very over priced (in my opinion) although I heard most people in the restuarant, who were residents, saying they were on the 'wine and dine' deal so maybe they are not now wanting to attract local clientele

I've passed the back of the establishment from the canal towpath on recent visits to Skipton & having noticed the menu decided to dine there at lunch time today. I wasn't sure where to book in since I was a non-resident so headed straight ahead to the bar area (which seemed dimly lit). Whilst waiting to be seen to I noticed a board on an easel which listed the fish specials including information on the skipper, the fishing trawler & what the fish is served with. I found this information useful. A member of staff noticed I was waiting & I asked for a table & was promptly taken to the dining area. I had a choice of where I'd like to be seated as there was no one else dining at that time. I opted for a table to look out to the main road. I was given a few menu's to look through which seemed to be a good range of hot & cold food as well as the fish specials. I was torn between the salmon or the seabass but in the end ordered the latter. I did feel the price of the fish was on the high end but since I was on my own & child-free (not somewhere I'd dine with 2 children in tow) I decided to go with the fish. The food arrived soon after ordering & appeared to be nicely presented. The meal was tasty but I did wonder where the pancetta was. I was disappointed to find at one end of the seabass there was a pile of bacon tucked underneath. Not being a fan of bacon & expecting pancetta as listed on the menu I felt this was poor. When my plate was taken away the waitress asked if everything was ok with the meal. I said it was apart from from the pancetta had been subsituted with bacon. She frowned when she noticed the bacon on the plate & apologised. I only had the main meal & didn't look at the dessert menu so cannot comment on that. Overall I liked the elaborate decor, the staff were pleasant & efficient but I left the place feeling a tad disappointed.

Dinner for 2 on 3 May 2017. My husband had fish & chips. Well presented. Fish batter very crispy but sadly batter a bit over done - had a burnt taste. I had beef & ale pie. I had to search for the beef amongst the onions. Mostly it was tender apart from a few pieces were very tough.Staff were very pleasant and helpful and decor etc. was nice. The food was half price because we were there before 1930h.As I said it was ok but wouldn't go back.

During the Easter week-end we (as a party of four) had dinner here twice, and also afternoon tea on the day of our arrival in Skipton. Our afternoon tea was excellent, had a great selection of items, and portions were more than ample (we couldn't finish all of ours).Staff were attentive without being obtrusive, bringing fresh tea and coffee and checking that everything was satisfactory. Our evening meals were excellent. There is a wide range of choices, and all of our food was well-cooked, well-presented, and the service was excellent - even at times when the restaurant was busy. The staff are very professional while remaining friendly. There was a great range of deserts, and a very good cheese-board option. (We can also recommend the cocktails). There is off-street parking available, and a pleasant bar if you want to relax with a drink before or after your meal.If you are in Skipton when the restaurant are doing one of their half-price early bird deals then get along there - its fantastic value.

We had a lovely couple of nights in this charming pub/hotel. Our room was comfy, spotlessly clean and warm. The food in the restaurant was excellent both breakfasts and dinners. The staff friendly and the place had a lovely cosy friendly feel. Would definitely return and recommend.
