Here was my make shift bed I had to make because the hotel bed fits one small person and was the worst mattress one could have ever imagined. I wouldnt even torture a homeless person by giving them that mattress. Also the shower was completely clogged and the last persons trash still in the bathroom. You do the math if this place is worth it or not, this was a dirty motel 6 not a 3 star stay. Breakfast was nice though

The Rosedale Hotel, ensconced within the otherwise beguiling environs of Portree on the Isle of Skye, presents an experience that may indeed be likened to a journey through time—a venture into the shadows of yesteryear, though regrettably without the expected refinements of modern hospitality. Upon our arrival, we were greeted not by warmth or conviviality, but by a chill both in atmosphere and demeanor. The building, antiquated to a fault, bore the unmistakable air of neglected grandeur, now faded into disrepair. For the princely sum exacted by the establishment, one might reasonably anticipate an oasis of comfort and elegance; alas, such anticipations are sorely misplaced. To compound the inconvenience, parking proved an insurmountable challenge, with nary a provision made to accommodate even the most determined guest. The checking-in procedure, furthermore, is prescribed for the rather unorthodox hour of 4 p.m., thus curtailing one’s stay most indelicately. Departure, meanwhile, is mandated at the wholly unreasonable hour of 10 a.m., leaving little opportunity to savor even the smallest comfort. The chamber we were allocated was of a diminutive nature, astoundingly so given the tariffs in question. Nestled precariously along the bustling thoroughfare, the room suffered greatly from the incessant din of passing travelers, thus entirely bereft of the tranquility one typically associates with the Highlands. As for the supposed provision of WiFi, one might do better to seek communication by carrier pigeon, for its appearance was as fleeting as its speed was glacial. Of peculiar note was the so-called “breakfast arrangement,” wherein guests are assigned a rigidly proscribed interval of fifteen minutes to partake of the morning repast. Should one fail to observe this punctuality, they are cast into the wilderness of starvation, for no quarter is granted. The lack of flexibility in this arrangement may have been tolerated were it not compounded by the conspicuous absence of cordiality among the staff. Chief among them is an enigmatic figure named “Cris,” whose demeanor and gait suggest he may indeed have been tethered to his post since the seventeenth century. ” Presiding at the front desk—a gentleman who, though cordial in manner, exhibited a dryness so profound as to feel almost automated, as if he were reciting responses directly from a well-worn manual. His politeness was mechanical, devoid of warmth, and his phrases seemed rehearsed, a series of stock responses delivered with precision but little heart. In summation, The Rosedale extends an invitation not to repose, but to endure—a trial of patience punctuated by exorbitant cost, indifferent service, and a distinct lack of amenity. It may suit the avid antiquarian; yet, for the traveler seeking even the most modest measure of comfort, it is, quite simply, an unfortunate choice.

This is a fantastic place to stay on the Isle of Skye. It’s in the main town of Portree, right on the harbour. We had a huge room with a view. The bathroom had a separate bath and large, strong shower. The breakfast was the best we’ve had in Scotland with espresso coffee and a modern range of hot choices. The service was also excellent- friendly, kind and helpful. It’s the best hotel in Scotland we’ve stayed in.

Had high hopes, but they were quickly dashed at check in. Front of the house staff asked for my passport number as well as my additional travel plans and couldn't or wouldn't provide reasoning as to why that information was necessary or required for them to issue room keys. If you have a lot of bags (we were on a two week trip) parking is non-existent and as other reviewers have pointed out, there is no elevator. This is not a huge imposition and is expected for the location, but it's still important to know going in. We stayed at the property on a Tuesday and Wednesday - the restaurant and bar were closed both evenings. Breakfast was serviceable. Rooms were spacious, but smelled musty/felt dirty and the first floor of the hotel had recently flooded and the carpet had been pulled. Not especially kid friendly, especially given the front office staff we interacted with. Wouldn't stay there again. Location though, hard to beat. So, if that's all that's important to you - go for it.

Laying in the mattress in this hotel, the metal springs are literally digging into me and motion causes the entire mattress to compress to the bed frame. In many years of travel all over the world I have never experienced such a brutally horrible and insulting mattress as this, in a hotel costing several hundred per night no less. Everything else is dated and old, and I will tolerate a lot, but the insult of the absolutely careless thoughtless quality of the bed and completely exhausted almost painful mattress is beyond belief. Avoid.

How this place is a three-star hotel is a mystery. Our room smells musty and a bit like wet dog. The toilet barely flushes. I get that. It's old but they could do better. They advertise that you can get breakfast with your room yet they don't have tables available. When we checked in we were given one time frame to eat and that was it. Our party was not even able to eat at the same time but an hour apart. We asked for a different time on our second night and we were told no. Parking is a nightmare. However, the view is stunning. It's the only thing that makes up for the mess that is this hotel.

This is a cute place overlooking the harbor. The staff is kind and efficient. We had a table with a view which we had requested a few weeks in advance. I had the Hake Risotto which was good, but not great. Just a bit more flavor would have put it over the top as it was fresh and cooked well. My husband had the seafood chowder and the Scallops of which he liked both. The cheesecake was just okay. Overall, the staff and location made it a good experience.

Restaurant review: As we were aware of the limited parking in the area, we walked to the restaurant from our accommodation. No draught beers on tap. Service was good.

Restaurant review: I would give the restaurant 2.5 stars. The parking is atrocious, if you can find parking at all. The photos on the website made the place look much nicer than it actually is. Don’t make the mistake of overdressing like we did. Wear your jeans and t shirt kind of place. The menu is extremely limited. Service was ok. Food was also just ok. Had quite a disappointing dinner here. I ordered the goats cheese salad and then was told there was no goats cheese so I could just have the salad by itself. We decided to forego the starters as there was nothing else I really fancied and didn't want just a plain salad. The main was really disappointing - the fish and chips was overcooked and the gnocchi was luke warm. Also 2 cokes and 2 main courses came to £42 which felt very overpriced. Positives: the servers were nice and the view from our table was very nice!

We are staying in Portree for the night and having checked on TripAdvisor finally settled for the Rosedale albeit with reservations. Alas my concerns came to fruition. The location, Tick. The decor, Tick. The staff were friendly and accommodating, Tick. The main consideration for any restaurant has to be the food, unfortunately the Rosedale failed in every respect. The starters. My wife had the chowder I had the beef cheeks. Does the chef even know about seasoning? The cheeks were supposedly cooked in red wine then deep fried. There was no taste of seasoning so it was a battle to eat the sizeable portion. My wife’s potato chowder, sorry seafood was again a mighty portion but uninspiring. We were given the bread. 5 mini Hovis rolls which although warm were as heavy as the beef cheeks but even less appetising. The highlight of any meal was next, the mains. I had venison Bourginon on mash potatoes with carrots and green beans topped with deep fried leaks. The meat had been cooked in red wine reduction, that’s what the menu said. In truth it was a congealed mess with zero flavour and if it was cooked fresh then I’m a Dutch uncle. The veg was fine the meat disgraceful. My wife had Pea risotto with a filet of Hake. It was like a very thick pea soup with a piece of tasteless fish, obviously frozen rather than fresh sat on top. The green mess was completely lacking seasoning so both mains were taken partially eaten. We were given a small discount on our mains but the experience left a bad taste in the mouth on numerous levels! It’s amazing that previous poor reviews highlighted similar concerns to those I’ve identified going back to April 2023. Surely they should be able to resolve these issues. Extremely disappointed.

You will need to book as it gets very busy. Starters were quite expensive and price in my view at higher end. Staff were friendly and helpful and checked in during meal until it got busy. Good views of harbour. Has Cullen Skink and my partner Scallops which were very nice and well presented. Main course seafood pasta and a risotto which again well presented. The puddings were a disappointment though should have been a creamy whisky desert but lacked taste. No parking and entrance in harbour which is down a hill so be aware if you have mobility issues.

Food isn't the tastiest and for what you get i would say a bit overpriced. The fish n chips aren't great, thrice cooked chips are soggy. Not sure if by thrice cooked they mean for three days in a row. Hake and Pea risotto is okay but not great could do with more Parmesan/seasoning to give it a bit of a lift. The side of a selection of Bread is basically five very dry mini loaf shaped rolls. Would be better with a selection of nice sliced bread. On the plus side, staff are friendly but wouldn't rush back.

The rating reflects a divergence of views between my wife and I; she enjoyed her meal more than I did. We agreed that the service was good and our table had a great view over Portree harbour. I’ll start by saying that we were much more enamoured with the starters on the menu than the mains… so much so we elected to order two starters rather than a starter and main - but in fairness it was plenty to eat. My wife ordered the seafood chowder which was full of flavour and I ordered the scallops which were well cooked and seasoned. Then we both ordered the beef cheeks which were beautifully cooked and the star of the show. The table next to us ordered the South Korean Crispy chicken burger and when it arrived I have to admit it did look good too. Both the Polish waiter and the Scottish waitress who served us were incredibly friendly and attentive making my daughter feel at ease - and as a result of this and the beautiful views we had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable first meal out in Skye.

The restaurant is located right on the Portree waterfront. The quality of the food was excellent though we wish the menu was more extensive and includes more seafood options. We ordered the Korean fried chicken but the sauce seeped through to the brioche buns immediate and turned them into mush. I think the sauce can either be on the side or have a hardier bun to soak up all the goodness! The scallops appetizer was super tiny. The service was impeccable and I loved the 80s music accompanying my meal. It's a great place to eat but make sure the menu has what you like.

Very poor. We were kept waiting at some length. We were told they were short staffed and had a new cook. Nothing appealed to me on the list of main courses. I considered the venison but as we waited an american couple at the next table made it clear they did not enjoy it. My partner ordered seafood chowder. He received cullen skink with salmon. Not chowder. I decided to have an entree and dessert. The mushrooms on toast entree was quite tasty but dry and I suspected it had been sitting for a while before being served. My partner’s korean chicken burger was fried battered greasy chicken on a bun with soggy chips on the side. It was not good. The dessert did not match its description at all. We has a spoonful each and gave up. It was supposed to have raspberries and did not. The ( delightful) waiter said we would not be charged for the dessert. The dessert appeared on the bill. The woman at the bar said she’d fix it. When we checked out the following morning the dessert was still on the bill at 50%. What a rip off!! Don’t go there!!

The menu is short, but we were able to find dishes that appealed to us and were very tasty. I tried the Haggish Scotch egg, because I'd always wanted to, and this was really delicious - crunchy, not oily. My husband started with the scallops...

Lovely welcome and great staff. The venue is stunning with great views. The starters and main were lovely. Slight let down on the puds which were copious but less refined compared with the rest of the menu. But overall a nice place.

We stayed at the Marmalade Hotel, but went twice to the Rosedale Restaurant. Nice atmosphere, good food and friendly service. The venison was excellent and we can recomment all of the menu. Winelist is ok and prices are very acceptable. If you catch a table...

We dined 9th of April, the only restaurant that had tables available on the day. When we arrived I could smell a strong odour in the bar area of the restaurant. Service was excellent, staff were very hospitable and kind however, meals were totally overpriced....

We were seated in a booth in the back corner which really didn't allow any views of the harbour as we couldn't see through the people in the other booth. Only allocated 2 hours on our table which wasn't really long enough for three courses....

The entrance to this restaurant is rather unprepossessing, but once inside the food and service are excellent. We both had the delicious local venison. The only disappointment was that most main courses, including ours, come without vegetables, or with very few. And £6 for potatoes...

Nice food, we had a 2 meal course of vegetarian and pescatarian food. The Eastern European waiter has fine “ people skills “ and great humour.

We stopped in at this lovely little café on a really cold January day. The hot chocolates and cakes were delicious - just wish we'd stayed for crepes as well!

Vom Three Chimneys waren wir begeistert.

we didn't stay or even eat (except for a hot chocolate) but they were really super kind, unfortunately we had an accident with the car and they helped us talk to the operator (we don't speak English well) and he hosted us in the 'hotel. it's not obvious, super kind and helpful, even the girls in the room were really kind. recommended even just for the staff, the croissants had a really nice face and a good scent. John is the chef who assisted us and helped us talk to the operator, great man!
