Restaurant Roots ltd in Bournemouth

Our first visit to Restaurant Roots. We were blown away with the combination of flavours, the wonderful food, the presentation of the dishes and the whole tasting menu experience. A warm welcome was followed by attentive service, wonderful wine suggestions & totally sublime food. Our lunch was excellent value and a return visit has already been booked.

I would give this restaurant 6 stars if I could. The most wonderful experience all round - faultless service, food, drinks and atmosphere. I would highly recommend Roots to anyone looking for a wonderful meal out. This place is special enough to feel like once in a while treat/occasion, but welcoming enough to feel like you’re going to your local neighbourhood restaurant. Perfection all round. Thanks so much, we can’t wait to come back!!!

Excellent food (of course). Service was informative but not pompous or fussy, waiter was very happy to mix and match the menus, offer wine suggestions, etc. Spent 3.5 hours there but it didn’t feel like it: the pace of service was perfect. A great evening out.

An unassuming exterior, located in a quiet street next door to a bed shop gives little hint of the fine dining treats within. A simple pared back interior but the striking art is an indication of what is to come. Service is warm and attentive, just the right level to prepare for the culinary journey . We opted to also have the drinks flight too …well worth it. Each course was superb, Jan the chef really knows how to play with flavours and the experience is just what you want from a tasting menu, each course an interesting and different taste experience. The owners are very friendly and happy to share their story which added to the overall experience. highly recommended and well worth the price.

If you can get a table! do! a gastronomic experience to die for. We had the tasting menu and it was worth every penny. Front of house is run by a gentleman with a great sense of humor and fun, from the moment we walked in we had a great time. The food was however the star of the show and the desire to lick the plate was almost overwhelming. Just fantastic. They even managed to cater for a mix of diatiary requirements! 10/10!

This is a really serious restaurant. Our go to for 'occasion meals' - but sometimes we just invent an occasion! A bit tucked away in a local shopping street at Southbourne crossroads. This means it is at the end of the bus route M2 so accessible from all over Bournemouth, Poole etc (and obviously Christchurch). I mention this because the wine flights to match the food are great - and I couldn't possibly drive afterwards. Quite simply, this is the best food within 50 or so miles. A choice of tasting menus - lots of small courses where the chef - proprietor, Jan, and team conjure extreme flavours which also look perfection on the plate. The menu only hints at the food because it is what is done with the ingredients that matters. So I won't run through the courses. Not cheap, but half the prices in London or Brighton, so people come from far and wide. Lunch in particular is excellent value. Now attracting attention in all the foodie guides so go while you can! Only 14 covers so we always book the date we want next before leaving. Back next month!

Amazing culinary experience with new and exciting flavour combinations that you wouldn't expect, but work very well! Some of the best food we've ever eaten, to a very high standard, by a talented and friendly chef who served and explained most of our dishes personally. We would thoroughly recommend Roots!

This was our second visit the last one being January 24. I was hoping it would be as amazing as last time. It was. Fantastic choice of welcome drink before the most delicious tasting menu. So glad the rye bread was there again as it was gorgeous. As one of us is vegetarian it was great to have a vegetarian tasting menu available which has the same base flavours as the regular tasting menu. All of the courses were lovely. The sommelier was great and it was lovely to see him again and have some excellent recommendations for the wine, he was spot on. The chef came out and personally introduced the different flavour elements of the courses which was amazing. We look forward to coming again soon Thanks to you all for another lovely night

Simply the best restaurant in Bournemouth, by a considerable distance. Food, drink and service second to none. I urge you to go!

3rd visit and wow, the best food I have ever tasted. Treated my father this visit, and he said the same...Best in his 75 years. Personally I'd prefer more private booths, but I know the chef wants a more open European style ambience. This is a special place

Truly sublime food and restaurant experience this evening at Restaurant Roots. Jan, his wife Stacey, and Geza, were incredibly welcoming, bringing the food, wine, and our whole evening's journey through the tasting menu to life. All in a setting quite intimate, warm, and comfortable. As for the food... this was simply another level. Amazingly delicate, yet bold, flavoursome, and intriguing - all inviting the senses to pay good attention as we journeyed through the 10 courses, each leading sensually to the next... Really enjoyed the experience, service was great, really good to see a chef playing around with flavours whilst staying close to his roots. Its a small and intimate restaurant however the decor was not to my taste but the food certainly was, I would recommend

We booked the tasting menu for a Saturday lunchtime and were very impressed with not only the food but also the wines the sommelier suggested. Even as a normal non-wine drinker, he found a nice prosecco I was able to enjoy. Every dish was well presented and there wasn't anything we didn't like. The menu changes monthly which is good as we will definitely return and we loved it so much we bought a gift voucher for a birthday present! Highly recommended!

Lunch. Is this Bournemouth's best restaurant? On numerous visits to this beautiful part of Dorset,we have never managed to get a reservation here. The intimate restaurant has just 16 seats. This time it nearly didn't happen yet again. But they managed to squeeze us in for their Saturday lunchtime service. It's a family run restaurant headed up by the owners, Jan and Stacey Bretschneider’s. The dining room decoration is bright, clean and stylish.There are two tasting menus. The Seasonal at £49 with optional extras. Or the full Classic at £79. Once drinks are served by the 'larger than life' maître d, the delious snacks arrive at the table. Up next is ‘Dad’s countryside supper’. That comes with a card explaining what Jan ate as a child on the family farm in Germany. A malty loaf of warm rye bread,a piece of cured salmon, smoked fish-roe mousse,cured meats and some really tasty butter.All that before you even have the first course. Then starts the procession of highly intricate dishes. Next,Beetroot,raspberry,pistachio,teriyaki. We had to add Hand-dived Scottish scallop,squash, vanilla,saffron £12.50. So glad we did. Main course was Breast of Chicken,pineapple, macadamia nut,black garlic with of course a beautiful lobster sauce. We're not done yet as Chef sends a refreshing dessert of New Forest strawberry,shiso,sancho pepper. Final dessert is a trio of Matcha green tea variations. To finish this exceptional meal,some sweet treats. Jan's cooking is on another level.This is high-end cuisine at it's very finest with expertly sourced produce. Worthy of a star from the tyre men. Or at least a Bib Gourmand. Although they do have three AA rosettes,and listed in the top restaurant guides. The answer is 'Yes',this is Bournemouth's best.

Amazing experience. We received a great welcome and fab service throughout. Every course of the tasting menu was explained as it was served and each one was delicious. We had the accompanying drinks flight and each one was matched perfectly. The meal took about 4 hours to have the 12 courses so wasn’t rushed and timed just right. Probably the best meal we’ve ever had. Also got chatting to some of the other guests which was an unexpected but lovely addition to the overall evening. Absolutely recommended!

This is a wonderful find in Southbourne. My wife and I had one of our best evenings out for a long time. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel welcome. Jan and his team have got it just right . The food is interesting, delicious and beautifully presented . The choice of wines to accompany each course was artfully selected. The room has nine tables and the spacing is clever so the room does not feel overcrowded . The ambience is friendly and warm with impeccable service. I am looking forward to going back as soon as I can.

Birthday lunch and tasting menu was fantastic. Catered for awkward Veggie partner and my pescatarian ways. Austrian waiter was fantastic and straight to the point which was most entertaining. It was a bit quiet that day so Chef came to see us incredibly interesting to hear his take on a Germanic twist to his food. Thoroughly enjoyable lunch and will ensure we have another visit.

The food is exquisite to look at & exquisite to eat. A proper foodie experience for meat eaters & vegetarians. The location & restaurant surroundings are very modest. No sea view here, but you can walk by the sea afterwards & discuss every gorgeous detail of the experience you just had.

Superb restaurant with amazing attention to detail, knowledgeable, passionate service and surprises on the menu, wonderful flavour combinations I never had tried before. Not cheap but this restaurant is ALL about the food. I will be back!

A charming little restaurant, they took our coats and kindly offered us a seat. A fine dining experience at an affordable price, and I say this as someone who has frequented several Michelin-starred restaurants. The server has no problem going the extra mile, allowing us to taste additional wines. We opted for the shorter lunch menu, and we were completely satisfied. Various mushroom dishes were presented, with special mention to the amuse-bouche and "mushroom tea" at the beginning of the meal. The bread is divine and a must-try. The chocolate passionfruit dessert is heavenly. There's a great selection of wines, including Tokaji dessert wine, which is always an extra point for me. At the end of the meal, we ordered coffee and received the most delicious homemade madeleine. The server was very kind, attentive, and we had a great conversation. Thank you for the experience.

Amazing!! Food superb, excellent service and great atmosphere in the new private dining room! I asked the roots team if it was possible to make some changes for a private dining experience for a group of friends and they were very accommodating and helpful. We had a lovely dinner at roots, the service was brilliant and the staff where friendly I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Best food we have had for a long time. Lunchtime discovery tasting menu was a real treat. Every course was superb. Staff and chef were very passionate about both the service and the food. If you want a sea view, have a walk along coast beforehand as once inside you are only really interested in the amazing food.

We are a group of 8 friends, and tonight we enjoyed a superb meal in the Roots Private dining room. Every course was delicious, and beautifully presented. The beef Wellington, and the Salmon terrine were delicious, the special cheeseboard was incredible, and we greatly appreciated the Prosecco! And all the other courses were super too! We would like to Thank Jan, Stacey and the Roots team for a truly excellent dinner, and a lovely evening. Happy Christmas to you all.🙂

We enjoyed the food and the service very much. It was a very cosy place. The service friendly and fast. We will certainly come back again.

You would not expect this from an ordinary parade of shops. This is one of the best meals we have had in the UK. The fact that it was vegatarian made it even better.

Restaurant Roots provided and amazing takeaway dinner party for my mother’s birthday. All 3 couples had identical 3 course meals in our own homes and shared over Zoom. Fabulous food, easy to put together made the evening really special. Would have only been better if we could have been in person. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a special meal.

Fantastic 5 course meal with all the hard work and skill taken care of by roots. Picked up takeaway box at an agreed time and then served it later that evening. Very simple to follow instructions and a video is provided for further instruction. I can’t recommend it enough. I hope this service continues even when life begins to get back to normal next year.

Outstanding food, every course of the "Curfew" evening tasting menu was a winner - all visually lovely and with layers of flavour and texture. Plus you can tweak either the veggie or meat menu to suit. Would also definitely recommend the accompanying wine tasting to get the full Roots experience. And it all felt very safe. Thumbs up! We will be back.

By far the best meal I’ve had in years. Equal to anything in London. We had the lunchtime tasting menu with wine - will definitely be coming can’t for the evening menu. X

Yesterday was my 4th or 5th visit to Roots. I really enjoy good food and would happily plan an entire holiday around visiting a specific restaurant or two. Having said that I can hand on heart say I believe this to be the best value for money eating experience in the world (that I have been lucky enough to encounter). It is better than a number of Michelin starred venues I have encountered. Neither myself or anyone I have dined with has ever had a bad course. The service is great, if slightly eccentric! the staff really care about both the food and your experience. There are many local delicacies on offer and the wine is both reasonable and from a variety of unusual locations you might not normally choose. If you are reading this, stop, you should already be making your booking

Súper servicio y platos increíbles para tentar tu paladar. El menú de degustación del sábado en el almuerzo fue de 45 y ofreció una gran selección de sabores y texturas. Buena carta de vinos que ofrece una selección a diferentes precios. El chef apareció en la otra mesa tres veces para ayudar con el servicio y explicar los platos. Hubiera sido bueno si nos hubiera dado (la única otra mesa en el restaurante) un asentimiento o un Buenas Tardes.

Great to visit this little gem tucked away in Southbourne Dorset ! The food is both innovative and flavourful often showcasing fresh local produce to its best effect. The turbot last night was a delight as was the venison, in fact every course of the tasting menu was beautifully prepared and presented. Do not be put off by the slightly spartan interior or the unprepossessing exterior. The chef and his wife will soon beguile you with their marvellous food. Booking essential !! A truly wonderful dining experience.

I revisited this place over a month ago and thought I would wait to calm down a bit as I didn't want to gush too much. I'm afraid time hasn't helped, prepare for some gushing. I was so excited to go back after the awful past few months of lock down and not being able to eat out. It was truly lovely going to Roots where we felt extremely safe, every precaution had been adhered to, there was simply no other precaution they could take, and it made for a worryless and carefree dining experience. The place has also had a bit of a refurbishment and looks super, modern but still cosy.We enjoyed some cocktails and then the food arrived, and oh-my-gosh, it was phenomenal. Every bite of every course transported me to another world of flavours, every taste bud was tingled, excited, dazzled and tantalised. I was lost in this world and utterly delighted to be there. Nothing short of genius work on the plates. Both Jan and Stacy have created incredible flavour combinations and if I had to choose something as my last meal on earth, it would be this.Still dreaming of the meal we had there, it was sublime! Outstanding food, wines and service that leaves you feeling as if you have had something really, really special. Cannot praise this restaurant enough.

We celebrated a birthday at Roots on 13th of September and had such a delicious experience yet again! The food is exquisite and always beautifully prepared and presented. We went for the Taster menu with wine, and each wine is perfectly paired with the course, chosen for its flavour to accentuate the marvellous dishes prepared by Jan.The dishes themselves are creative, and sometimes surprisingly adventurous, putting contrasting yet complimentary flavours together that really sing on the palette.Nothing is out of place with flavours and we left feeling satisfied and spoilt by both the service and the cuisine!Thank you team Roots for another unforgettable experience!

So I have been trying not to write a review due to my somewhat bias opinion of this establishment.However what I have learnt in my last two trips is,PRAWNS massive, huge, humongous, prawns almost bigger than the restaurant it’s self. These giants of the sea are almost a meal in themselves you have to try these for yourself.Give me a B Give me a UGive me a NGive me a SWhat have you got BUNS The best BUNS you have ever tasted ever in the world.I’m pretty sure the dynamic husband wife combo have an underground kitchen one filled with umpa lumpas , house elves , mystical cooking unicorns or some type of supernatural beings. As from there modest kitchen they can cook any type of food from anywhere in the world with so much passion, style, flavour whilst making it look like a supermodel has fallen onto your plate and your permitted to eat said supermodel. I say this as surly some English lady and German man can’t manage to cook cuisine from all over the globe with such confidence and complete the dishes in my opinion better than the country of origin.I say they must have help because there is only three of them Jan, Stacey and Gigi This trio constantly glide the food and drink to your table with elegance and ease nothing is forgotten nothing is mistaken and as for Gigi he has this ingrown crystal ball that means he knows your drink, how you drink it and when you want it. Quite often he will try move you from your comfort zone and pair one of theses culinary master pieces with a drink from far and wide.This ladies and gents is the reason I don’t write reviews for roots anymore as it looks like I have been paid off. I can assure you I haven’t and all that happens is I enjoy every visit I make. Do not hesitate find out for yourself.

Fabulous Sunday lunch; delicious food and excellent service with impeccable recommendations for accompanying wines. Hopefully they might be able to squeeze us in for the tasting menu before the end of our week’s holiday.

This is the best fine dining we have ever had and we’ve had a few.The 3 people that run it as first class, they sincerity shines through. I think there is a max of 15 covers a night , when you turn up you will a small building but when you go inside you won’t regret it. We had the 7 course and wine tasting menu and every course is explained in detail. Some of the flavours were absolutely divine .Don’t hesitate tobook this if you like fine dining, you won’t be disappointed

Me and my wife visited roots and choose to have the discovery menu with wine pairings, although more expensive than a usual meal out that we would have. It was worth every penny as all the tasting choices where full of flavour and showed great imagination. I can safely say it was the best meal I have ever had and with ought a doubt we will be returning. Even though we visited during the covid-19 outbreak the meal still felt very special and the staff where exstreamly knowledgeable about what they where serving.

There is not much i can say about Roots and the high quality of the food. We have been a couple of times since lockdown. Fantastic! Service great.It really good to see them open again and the tasting menu looking good!Well done Jan & Stacey.

Visited for Sunday lunch and had a lovely time, service was wonderful and delicious food. Rarely go out for Sunday lunch as 99% of the time we’re disappointed as not as good as we would cook ourselves. Not the case at Roots, food was wonderful and good quality products. Highly recommend!

Ate at roots last night and not for the first time (or second, or third, or forth..)The standard of food and service is outstanding, as always. I love the fact that i eat food pairings i would never dream of usually ordered and without exception they work together so well! The wine choices to go with each course compliment superbly and its plain to see the attention and love that goes into what is offeredCovid wise, the measures in place are well thought out and make you feel safe whilst in no way detracting from the dining experience.Thanks again Jan, Stacey and Geza for the best evening I've had since March!

We went as a party of 6 and were delighted to see the COVID measures these guys have put in place are brilliant as well. The food and service was faultless - our waiter was attentive and caring. All the food we had was well cooked and presented beautifully. I have no hesitation to recommend this restaurant.

We came here all the way from the Midlands for our anniversary. We were slightly late due to traffic and they still accommodated us! Not all restaurants would do this!Incredible food from the moment you walk in! You're presented with your starter as soon as you are seated. You can choose from a flight of wines, which are impeccably matched with each course. We met the chef, and spoke with the Maitre d' for a while about the restaurant's history! A family run restaurant, with Michelin star quality food. Undoubtedly the best restaurant I have been to! I would highly recommend this for all to try!

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The staff were incredibly attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Altering the menu for dietary requirements was not a problem. The waitress always kept our water jug full and offered us drinks. The food was absolutely first class - couldn’t fault a single thing!

Had our first quarantine takeaway from Roots on Saturday, and it was the first time in a while that we have been so ecstatic! We’ve eaten here before so as soon as we heard about the afternoon tea takeaway it was a must. The food was truly superb in both looks and taste. The savoury selection tasted brilliant and the cakes looked absolutely incredible- and neither disappointed!Very happy customers and can’t wait for our next one!!

This place is amazing. hands down the best dining experience myself and my partner have had, (and we have been to some amazing places) the tasting menu was amazing couldn't fault any of the dishes all just superb. We had the tasting menu and wine to compliment the different courses, we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening, the food was amazing it was absolutely outstanding. This small restaurant deserves every accolade it gets. From the decor, hospitality to food everything is top notch. We had a special lunch for my birthday and chose the Classic menu of about 7 courses. Each course was beautifully presented and explained. I had a wine pairing with each course and the wines were delicious. My husband had the vegan menu and his food was sublime with so much effort put in just for him. We would recommend without hesitation and will be returning as soon as we can. Thank you.

I had the absolute delight of celebrating my 40th birthday here with 20 friends & family on a Saturday evening. We had exclusive use of Roots for the whole night & the menu was tailored to our requirements. Everyone who attended cannot rave enough about the food, the service, quality of food & drink & indeed the actual venue enough.The restaurant worked with us to make this a unique & very special evening - table plans & decorations & catering for those that are alcohol free & vegetarian. Highly recommend

As a regular to Roots I know how good the food is. I also know how well matched the wines are on the wine flight accompanying the tasting menu. What I didn’t fully appreciate was how good Roots is. Last night I ate at one of Dublin’s finest restaurants which has one Michelin star. So now here I am comparing my local Roots with an internationally recognised restaurant. The Roots small starters and puddings are better than the Michelin restaurant. The main courses at Roots are at Michelin standard. The wines and paring are also on a par. What isn’t Michelin standard at Roots are the prices. The Dublin restaurant charges an extra €33 for cheese board and accompanying wine. This is included in the cost of the discovery menu at Roots which is a fair bit cheaper anyway. So I now realise I can eat Michelin standard food just a few miles from home, at very reasonable prices.

First time visit for Sunday lunch, it was incredibly scrumptious! The flavours were delicious and the beef melted on the tongue. The service was proper attention to detail and dedicated to making you comfortable.

Great Sunday lunch. We had fantastic pea and duck starters , I then had the beef fillet and my partner the plaice both excellent.I did manage dessert , custard tart and rhubarb.What a great way to spend a wet and windy Sunday. Good to see the recognition for Roots in the Times yesterday.Well done to all.

If you haven't been to Roots yet... Don't waste a minute longer!

We had the classic lunch today and the dishes were all inspirational and flavoursome. We delighted in the food combinations and presentation. Go with an open mind and be surprised by these monthly changing menus. If you have allergies and intolerances I advise to call a week/few days ahead and I am sure the chef will make something special for you. Roots have set menus which takes my agonising decision making away. However, it does not mean you cannot swop an equal dish from one of the other menus like I did. A Lebanese red wine was recommended today; it was a surprise and went perfectly with the menu. Great coffee too served with petit fours. It is a small restaurant with only 18 covers which gives it the exclusive feeling. The room has high ceilings and on a gray day like today was still filled with natural light. We will return for Sunday lunch on the 22 Feb so will review that as well.

The restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We went for lunch on the Saturday. A real delight. The food was super delicious. The host was very friendly. It deserves a Michelin star. Will definitely go back again.

We made the trip from Hertfordshire for Sunday lunch. “What on earth makes you drive that far for Sunday lunch?” I hear you cry.....well let me explain our seemingly mad quest for the perfect weekend culinary experience!

Delicious food and drinks. We loved the different takes on feed and couldn’t decide which course we liked most as they were all great. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.

We went for lunch on Sunday and had an excellent experience. It is a small restaurant in Southbourne with simple decor, comfortable tables and seating. The service is friendly and quite informal but very efficient and knowledgeable.

You will NOT be disappointed with this place.

We had a taster menu and wine flight that were simply awesome. Some of the best food I’ve ever had with very well selected balance wines.

A Sunday family roast can be challenging when one of your party members is gluten-free and vegan. Roots facilitated this by creating a special menu, specifically for this individual, meaning they didn't miss out on variety or flavour. This is testament to the restaurant's exceptional service, adaptive nature and care for customers. Undeniably, the best food and service in Dorset ⁠— both for their roast dinner service and tasting menus. I couldn't recommend Roots enough. It's an affordable, delicious experience for all.

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. Each dish was cooked to perfection and full of flavour! Left feeling very satisfied-Will definitely be coming again.

Spent a very enjoyable evening here for dinner with friends for a birthday party. We all took the 7 course taster menu. The welcome is superb so is the explanation of the dishes and the wine. You are truly made to feel welcome here. The presentation of the courses is superb and the taste is out of this world. I was originally apprehensive that the courses would be so small that I would go home hungry - but I was totally wrong - everything adds up to be a wonderful fulfilling dinner. There are a good selection of drinks to accompany the food, and you are free to choose what you would like from the wine list, or follow a selection recommended with the dishes. I'll certainly be looking to return there.

Our first visit here for a family birthday. We tried the discovery tasting menu and wine tasting. A fabulous evening unfolded with exquisite dishes and a plentiful supply of wine. Having had the luxury of sampling many fine restaurants around the world, this would certainly rate as one of our best experiences and a real hidden gem in Bournemouth.

I make no apologies - this is my favourite restaurant

Roots is a surprise tucked away at the Crossroads in Southbourne. Many reviewers suggest it is the number one restaurant in Dorset, it's not. The food we had (7 course classic taster menu) was in large part excellent and beautifully presented. The venison was superb and the chef managed to follow a request for a slightly over cooked portion to perfection. Service was very good and the constant supply of fresh water appreciated.

One of my favourite places, a hidden gem, I eagerly look forward to the taste sensations created by the team at Roots! It's not often you experience flavours that compliment so superbly with each other and the wine. Every time we go I'm stunned. Even the bread course is to die for! Masters of taste.

I'll start with the team. A dream! Perfectly attentive. Fantastic knowledge not only of their role but the whole wine and food,incredibly skilled and made us laugh so much too what a gentleman Geza was.

This is definitely an experience rather than just a meal. The tasting format menus (which are the only real options) are amazing. The obvious skill and enthusiasm of the staff (there are only 3 of them) makes that whole event even more enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Went here on recommendation from a friend for my wife’s birthday

We have eaten at Roots six times over the past three years and have never been disappointed. It’s a ‘London quality ‘ restaurant by the sea. The food is stunning, so well cooked and presented, not a single fault with any of the courses we ate, and the food combinations work extremely well. Service is immaculate and stylish, friendly and timely.

My wife and I booked Roots for a birthday dinner. We chose the 9 course tasting menu with the wine pairings, this was £99 each. We both had an amazing experience, the food was delicious, the drinks were perfectly matched and the service was exceptional.It took us over 4 hours to go through everything. Also unlike other tasting menus we have done where you might leave a bit hungry after only having little bites all night we were both completely stuffed. Worth noting that they have 3 corner seats for couples which definitely add to the experience and would be worth requesting in advance.

A couple of us were late, however we still got a warm reception from the front of house and then after a few minutes of perusing the menu we realised we were in for a treat.

Roots is all about its tasting menu. in our two visits to the restaurant, we have been delighted by the quality of the menus on offer. The ingredients are of a high quality, and the preparation and presentation are almost obsessively good. The resulting dinners are delicious. My inability to eat white fish was accommodated without any fuss. The maitre d' and the other staff can be a little overwhelming on occasion, but the whole experience IS an occasion, to be fair. The restaurant is comfortable and uncrowded. Being as much a gourmand as a gourmet, I could eat Roots' bread for ever. Book a table and enjoy the experience - I feel sure that you will not be disappointed.

This restaurant is a wonderful find.The entire evening was an outstanding experience starting with Geza's enthusiastic welcome right through to Jan and Stacey's superb food.

Our third visit to this wonderful restaurant in the last 3 years proved to be excellent as always. The intimacy of a small room, the knowledgeable friendly staff and excellent wine was a real treat ... then there is the food ... we opted for the 10 course menu ... each and every course was full of incredible skill, hours of perfected work, amazing flavours and absolutely delicious.

When it comes to booking a restaurant based on quality of food - this is top of the tree in Bournemouth. Amazing 6-course chefs menu had by 4 of us today with paired wines throughout. Each course was a culinary delight! Something unique about each course with attention to detail throughout. Amazing. The staff are great too - a small team who really know what they are talking about. Might seem like they are being pushy in the outset but its definitely best to trust them (trust me)! Well worth the money, especially when the whole experience was ~3 hours (once we'd had coffees).
