I was going to write a bad review about a visit on the 12th August and the fact that I’d never received a call after leaving my number. However, I now see that it is closed and Nik Boyle is having a hard time, so all I can do is wish him well in sorting it all out and good health.

It was closed on Saturday evening. We had booked a table and it was closed, no communication to say he was closed. Give it a wide berth! This is a person who complains about customers not turning up! !!!

I booked a table at Nik Boyle on line from the Nik Boyle website. 6 people at 7.30pm on 18th Sept. I received a confirmation a couple of days later, apologising for the delay in reply and confirming my reservation. I turned up with 6 friends to a restaurant with "Open" on the door, but it was locked and the place was in darkness. I was so embarrassed. We went to the Chain Locker nearby instead and had a nice evening. We are all locals and you don't treat your patrons like this. Sorry Nik Boyle, your ship has sailed and from the look of your other reviews, we really didn't miss anything.

Friends wanted to take my wife and me out. Chose this relatively new restaurant. Before we arrived received a call saying bring cash as card machine out of service - good that they got in touch. Arrived and were greeted well and had a good chat with owner and chef Nik Boyle. Had to wait a while for wine menu and then again for main menu. Ordered wines. After a while our waitress returned to say that the white wine was not available as there had been trouble with their stocking. Chose another she returned again and said that they did not have the red so chose another. My main course was good but at £18 for a straight skate and chips not cheap. Had a chocolate brownie for dessert which was either old or overcooked. All rather underwhelming. Had a word with Nik Boyle on leaving and he said he had a nightmare of a day it rather showed

Booked a table for an evening with friends eager to try the high end dining that the new owner of what was formerly Honky Dory’s has stated as his mission statement. We were phoned a coup,e of hours before we arrived to be advised they had problems with their card machine so cash was necessary. On arrival we informed that the menu was different to that posted outside and because of a supplier problem , the hake and the scallops were unavailable. Not a great start but it got worse, the manager had a patronising attitude and had a habit of making snide remarks . We decided to ignore this to see if the food would compensate . When the food did arrive at our table it was underwhelming and overpriced we gave deserts a miss to bring our sorry expierance to an early end . Needless to say but we will not return and advise others not to be taken in by the hype .
