Afternoon tea- the service was very good, staff friendly and attentive. The afternoon tea comes with everything for one person on a platter which is not to my preference but not a huge issue. The two finger sandwiches were good and I would have enjoyed more. There was a selection of cakes, the nicest being the opera cake. They offer boxes to take away what you are unable to eat which is a nice touch. It was a nice afternoon : I had been there for tea two years ago and that was a great experience and the food then had been fabulous.

Beautiful comfortable conservatory. Tasty sandwiches and refined cakes. I particularly enjoyed the filo pastry mince pies. Non obtrusive but attentive service. When I asked for a speciality tea, it was promptly brought. Do make sure to book in advance. A well priced experience certainly to be repeated!!

My first fine dining experience and was very impressed. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. You certainly got the sense of luxury in the quality of the dishes and the care form the staff. Setting was decent and if the weather was warmer would loved to have dined on the patio. We had 2x soft drinks, 2x glasses of wine and 2x 3-course meals for £105. Not too bad and wasn't left hungry afterwards. This sounds silly, but the only thing that could be improved was that the plates/bowls were a bit poor. They didn't match and I feel some of them ruined the presentation of the dishes. The texture also made it awkward to enjoy all the sauces (in the relevant dishes)

Ty’n Rhos dining experience starts 30 min prior to the sitting (two sittings Tue-Sat) in the conservatory with plenty of time to decide on the menu, enjoy vegetarian sushi and olives amuse-bouche and relaxingly sip Sweet Sunset cocktail (vanilla vodka, watermelon liquor, amaretto and grenadine topped up with fresh orange and lemonade) Taken to our table we start with bread basket filled with warm sourdough and focaccia accompanied by two types of butter - traditional salted Welsh and creamy homemade one. My starter arrives and oh my! The plate looks incredible! BEETROOT TEXTURES salt baked, pannacotta and beetroot ketchup, Cwt caws goats’ cheese, serrano ham I also have a cheeky taste of my partners choice. COURGETTE, BASIL AND PARMESAN SOUP with rosemary and tomato focaccia Both explosion of flavours and textures! Time for mains and we both decided we love the sound of: CORN FED CHICKEN pan-fried breast, leg and potato croquette, cauliflower cheese puree, chorizo, asparagus and jus THE BEST CHICKEN EVER!! So juicy yet with the perfectly crispy skin on top! And the potato croquette!!! Can I please have a whole plate of them?? After two perfect courses I had no doubt that no matter what I choose for dessert it will be amazing. I was waiting for an ideal moment to try Welsh cheese and that moment finally came! WELSH ARTISAN CHEESES - four Welsh cheeses, house chutney, apple, grapes, rich fruit cake and Artisan crackers. Perfectly selected four: RED STORM – SNOWDONIA Produced by Snowdonia cheese company this vintage pasteurised red cheese has a sweet and surprisingly complex flavour with a refined nutty texture. GORWYDD CAERPHILLY – CAERPHILLY Produced by Neal’s Yard Dairy matured for longer than most a densely crumbly cheese with scents of lemon and cream. GOLDEN CENNARTH – CARDIGAN, WEST WALES A small family enterprise in west Wales. This is an organic cider rind-washed cow’s milk cheese of the ‘brie’ style. It has a savoury flavour with nutty overtones with a smooth finish. PERL LAS – CARDIGAN, WEST WALES A blue-veined organic cow’s milk cheese, it is golden in colour with a gently salty taste with a creamy richness. I loved every single one! My partner’s dessert was also extremely good! TY’N RHOS CHOCOLATE dark, milk and white chocolate, sour cherries, gingerbread.

Stayed 2 nights DBB. The food was remarkable. High quality. All three courses first class. Lobster superb. Steak so tender. I would ignore the recent previous 1 star reviews, which could not be further from our experience and with few reviews to their name. Great service - owners really care. Background music was at an appropriate level and needed, otherwise it would be very quiet. Only negatives were having to order from the menu earlier in the day so the kitchen can prepare and the wine “mark up” was over 3x which is way too high for this type of venue. However absolutely superb food over 2 nights and a good breakfast.

We booked a table for two after checking out the website with menus and pictures of the food listed there. This got us quite excited and we were looking forward to eat here later on in the week. However, upon arrival it quickly became clear to us that the promises made by the website would not be met in reality. Staff is friendly but is not knowledgeable on the food served, nor the wine. The biggest disappointment was the quality of the food: pre-starter and pre-dessert courses mentioned in the online menus are non existent. The canopees were four olives and a bowl of pistachios. The surf and turf meat was overdone (medium instead of medium-rare) and the lobster was far too buttery and still cold at the ends (although cooked through), which makes me wonder how it was warmed up.. The chips were not fully cooked. Also, upon arriving at our table there were still some breadcrumbs under my plate. Even if the expectations would be better managed by updating the website with recent pictures and menus, the food is still a disappointment considering the price. In that case we would not have considered going here and rightly so.

I’m a person who loves food, eats everything but I can be a little strict when it comes to high end restaurants. However, writing reviews is very uncommon for me. At high end restaurants one may expect exquisite food, wine and highly experienced staff. The experience at Ty’n Rhos was the worst I ever had for the amount of money spent. The table was dirty, wines tasteless, meat over cooked (asked for medium rare), French fries raw from the inside, lobster full of butter and there was no atmosphere. Due to COVID I believe (and hope) changes had to be made to the dining room. The photos on the websites and the three example menus online didn’t resemble what we received on our plate. I sincerely believe there was no bad intention by staff and the chefs, I, however, do wonder about their competence and knowledge. The website is harmful, as it promises the costumer so much more than they get in real life. We were so much looking forward to this evening and were so disappointed by the food that we simply started laughing and wanted to leave as early as possible. It’s sad, because it could have been such a wonderful place for dinner and a beautiful evening for us. I hope things will change, for the costumers and for Ty’n Rhos.

We were a party of five for Sunday lunch (£24.95 per person). Lounge areas (pre-meal) Comfortable and nicely furnished. Dining room Great ambience, with plenty of space between the tables. Nicely decorated. Food quality High quality food, with an appropriate balance between quality of ingredients, haute cuisine and traditional home-cooking. All starters and mains were subject to praise. The wagyu beef and turkey dishes were superb. There was also plenty of vegetables and extra gravy provided in gravy boats. All deserts were also well-received. Service Friendly, professional and efficient throughout. Great to have one Welsh-speaking member of waiting staff. One to return to.

Should the on-line menu include the same courses as the actual one? I ask because the sample on-line menus for dinner include an appetiser and a pre-dessert but the menu in the restaurant doesn’t. I can’t honestly say that we wouldn’t have gone there otherwise but their absence was a bit of a letdown, especially at the price. It took away some of the specialness. Food was ok except that the big chunk of roast pork doesn’t really go with the delicate nature of the other courses. And like so many other places the glass roof over the conservatory was filthy.

As locals resident in the area for the past 40 years we like to support local ventures. We met up with an old friend for an evening meal at Ty’n Rhos recently. The menu was not very inspiring and at £42 for 3 courses not on the ‘cheaper’ end of the scale. There was no ‘specials’ board so I opted for two dishes from the starter section. All our meals were nicely presented and edible but I would not recommend them. although the service was good, we were all disappointed and felt that the place lacked ambience despite its obvious potential. When the time comes for another reunion Ty’n Rhos will not be our first ‘port of call’!

It was four years ago that we visited this hotel and we thought that it was time we returned. The delay had not been due to the quality of the service but more to the attractions locally. The hotel is in the countryside and our satnav has a penchant for selecting the direct route which uses the byroads. I suggest that you look at a map to ensure that the best route is chosen.BOOKINGWe booked by telephone and the process was efficient and friendly and our requirements were respected.RECEPTIONWe were met by a foreign gentlemen, who may have been from South Wales! He was very friendly and explained all of the hotel’s facilities and showed us where each was and then he carried our bags to our room. Good service.ROOMWe had a ground floor room with a small patio. Unfortunately it rained almost continuously during our stay and so we could not use that facility but there was plenty of seating and there were cushions in our room for the chairs. Our room was compact but did accommodate a large double bed and a small seating area. The settee was a little deep and a little old for us but was acceptable. The television was wall mounted and unfortunately high on the wall so there was a crick in our necks, although it was reasonable height when laid on the bed.The bathroom was compact and my only criticism was that the door opened into the room so that if it was left ajar one could easily see the wc. Not a nice view.LOUNGE & CONSERVATORYWe only used the conservatory for our pre-dinner drinks. It is a very pleasant space but seating is soon occupied. The lounge is a quiet and underused space. We were the only people to use it after dinner and we did use the space to undertake some writing in the late afternoon. It is a pleasant secluded space.Canapes were served in the conservatory. Some of these were small soups which were really unsuited to this environment and would be better served as an amuse bouche in the dining room. Despite this criticism they were all tasty.DINNERThis consisted of three courses. The starters we ordered were all tasty and I especially enjoyed the fish platter. The menu changed each day but it was obvious that the items not ordered returned the following day.The main courses we ordered were well arranged on the plate and the plates were even selected for the meal. All we had were enjoyable but my wife especially enjoyed the Pork duo..My wife was not drinking wine during our visit and there was a reasonable selection of half bottles for me to choose and I liked the Rioja Vega. Our coffee and brandy were served in the lounge. I usually ask for the cheapest brandy and was advised to try an Italian variety and it was good advice.BREAKFASTThis is served in a small annex to the dining room and has the usual buffet bar for the first course. The fresh fruit was limited but my wife does take some of her own with her.The cooked breakfasts we had were hot and good.OVERALLThis is a good hotel which could be improved to be an excellent hotel. Will we return, probably but not because of the hotel but because we have visited many times and know the area.

I visited this restaurant for dinner with colleagues at their recommendation. When people sing the praises of somewhere, you are inevitably disappointed at the reality. I wasn't!!! This was a memorable and superb dining experience. The setting was magnificent and the surrounding views were breathtaking. The restaurant is relaxed and beautifully appointed. The staff could not have been more welcoming or efficient and were fully conversant with the details of the menu and the excellent wine list. My food was delicious and perfectly prepared and presented, with a variety of dishes that was so difficult to choose from. I a sure that they must do that just to ensure that you are tempted back. Well I shall succumb to that temptation, and the next time I visit I shall take my beloved wife and not my colleagues. She will love it as much as I did. I have never written a review before while I'm still at an establishment but I feel compelled to do so tonight.....and no, I haven't had much at all to drink....I am staying three nights (and have stayed before). I am on night two. I returned at 6pm from a day of working.....I asked if I could book a table for a meal and one if the staff members smiled and told me that would be fine .....the chef appeared with a big smile on his face and told me that they weren't going to do a menu tonight as no one was eating (there were plenty last night)....but he told me he could create a wonderful meal for me and told me about this pork dish.....his enthusiasm drew me in and I thought it sounded great. I appeared at 7.30 and was welcomed warmly in the bar and given a taste of some of the open wines (I only wanted a glass).... The service was excellent and after 15 minutes enjoying my drink I was ushered through and my pork dish appeared. The first mouthful just blew me away (3 weeks ago I was eating at a Michelin Star establishment)....it was a wonderful dish....the chef appeared and joined by the other wonderful member of staff as I was eating and they enquired as to how it was.......just wonderful was my response....!! Anyway, this is what service is my friends - even though I was the only one they were serving and cooking for I was made to feel at home, served incredibly well and they took great satisfaction in my satisfaction - a rare commodity nowadays. Bless you Tyn Rhos and bless Mike the Chef, Danny also in the kitchen and Caryl the wonderful front of house staff member and waitress... I have stayed here several times over the past three years and the service has always been excellent- this time it has gone beyond that. If you want to stay in a special place in a wonderful location and be well looked after then look no further than Tyn Rhos..... I have just finished my dessert and that too was excellent!! Good night all.....

Four of us had Sunday lunch at this lovely hotel. We had a table by the window with great views over Snowdonia. Starters were a beautiful duck liver parfait with spiced plums, a really good potato and watercress soup and a modern take on prawn cocktail, with crabmeat and brown shrimps for extra interest and flavour. Our mains were Welsh Wagyu beef, Welsh lamb and sea bass, the latter with a lovely cream sauce, all served with plenty of fresh vegetables. Extra gravy was brought without us having to ask. Our desserts were also very good.At £23.95 for three courses, this is a real bargain. We all agree that this IS a fine dining establishment, and we've eaten in top restaurants, including Michelin starred ones, all over the UK and Europe. A special mention for the excellent service, friendly, smiling and knowledgeable from the waiter who brought our drinks to the lovely lady who served us. This is a restaurant which is trying hard to be something it's not. It is categorically NOT a fine dining restaurant, the people who say it is I can only assume have never actually eaten in a Michelin Star restaurant or indeed a decent quality one. It's just very average but the prices are high. There is also no flexibility with times and tables. Even though I had a room I was told I would have to wait for dinner as there were "no tables available". Only when pushing I was offered a table in the conservatory - why did they not just offer this right away?

So on return to the area it seemed an idea to try the food as the hotel breakfast was really good and fresh. The evening meal was excellent. Seafood platter far better than the one three days earlier and sirloin that almost melted in the mouth. Nice amuse bouche with soup and (unusual) sausage from breakfast menu with nice sauce. Only modest point was thrice cooked chips which were chunky didn't have the crispy exterior I'd half expected. But small points. Good bread and drinks not exorbitant. Quality cooking, not cheap but at a level that justified every penny.

My Sister requested a lobster starter that she had seen on the website but that was not included on the evenings menu, this didn't pose a problem at all. The service was swift and helpful, without being obtrusive.A lovely dining experience.

The restaurant at this hotel is second to none. The quality of the food is superb and it fully deserves at least 2 rosettes. The chef/patron Stephen makes dining here a delightful and memorable occasion from producing the best lamb we have ever experienced with the freshest turbot the following night and the most succulent lobster the following lunchtime.

Reading a previous review from "wilbach" I can only assume they must have either eaten in another restaurant or be local competition with an axe to grind !Our food was very well presented, with fresh ingredients and tasted great. Lovely canapes, a cheese souffle to die for, but the locally caught lobster was just incredible - a must !The wine list is not extensive, but there's still a decent selection of grapes to choose from, depending on personal taste. Service levels were excellent and the staff were very flexible to meet all our needs.I have eaten in high end restaurants all round the world, I would rank the food here up with the best for freshen of ingredients, taste, and the overall level of presentation.

Excellent canapés, super crab bisque. Lobster and turbot to die for.If this place is only the 16th ranked place to eat then there must be some pretty amazing places in the area. We eat out alot. This was real quality. Skill and love went into the meals we had. 2 rosettes are well deserved. Service is excellent the balance between professional attention and being unobtrusive, this is not easy to achieve. All things considered fantastic.

The starter, crab bisque was appalling, dishwater. The second course was very uninspiring for the money. Very expensive, are all these wonderful reviews scams? Trip Advisor needs to check what is going on here. The app shows 11 terrible reviews which I concur with. The website only one terrible review. I would have never gone to the place if I had seen these reviews. A great shame as the place had a wonderful reputation many years ago. Keep away.

El restaurante es muy caro para la cena que nos sirvieron. Te obligan a coger dos platos minimo o tres platos contando el postre y de 70 euros no baja el precio minimo para dos personas.

I was invited to a friend's birthday party here on a Saturday evening. There were twenty five of us altogether and we had preordered from the special menu. The setting is delightful, the hotel is hidden away down a leafy lane but is well sign-posted from the main road. There was plenty of parking which was excellent. The three course meal was elegant, stylish and delicious. The service was excellent - everything was served promptly and efficiently. I enjoyed the seafood platter starter, it was attractively presented and tasty as was the main course of sea bass with seasonal vegetables. This was an altogether pleasant experience which I look forward to repeating soon.

This was one of the best meals we have ever had. The only one I can think of that was better, the restaurant gained a Michelin star the following year. We booked at the last minute which meant quite an early dinner. However we were made to feel immediately welcome and relaxed in the lounge with a delicious amuse bouche. We opted for a five-course dinner. The pre-starter (a deconstructed Greek salad) was good, with the cucumber sorbet the most memorable part - the rest was perhaps a little anonymous (in the context of a superb meal). The starters were perfectly proportioned (a parfait and a goats cheese salad). The mains were exquisite - a trio of lamb and roast sirloin. Perhaps they were a touch generously proportioned in the context of five courses (particularly the veg mash with the lamb)? The pre-dessert was quite clever - a Pimms jelly, but again, a little large for its function. Desserts were excellent: A trio of chocolate was delicious as was the home-made ice-cream. Other minor criticisms - given only because I think this place could go to the next level - I saw the same type of shot glass slightly too often; The cutlery was beautiful (Robert Stanton - similar to our wedding set), except for one spoon that I was given; we were too full to contemplate petits fours. I'd love to see this place raise the bar a further level and offer a well-proportioned tasting menu with matching wines - I'd possibly make a trip specially!

I was at the hotel recently, and the owner (or manager, not sure), was extremely friendly, as was his wife. The other staff were courteous, and well presented, and were always smiling. The food was great, I'm a very fussy eater so what I ate had to be special, and it didn't disappoint. Would I go back? Yes - I definitely will be!

Been here twice for special occasions with the family. Each time was brilliant. Were given a warm welcome and canapés in either the conservatory or the lounge while the table is prepared. The meals were impeccable. Food was cooked to perfection each time with a great menu using local produce. Nice drinks selection and very friendly and attentive staff. Nothing was too much.A bit pricy to go all the time but a great choice for special occasions. Will defined visit again in future

The owner of this hotel was rude when we asked if she catered for Vegans. She said simply "No, it was too much trouble in kitchen" I definitely didn't expect this in 2015 . Very disappointing

Popped here as a party of four (2 couples) From the moment you walk in the staff and appointed waiter is very accommodating - Bringing out amuse bouche, Very tasty - also showing us the Chefs special recommendation for the evening. The menu wasn't extensive but very attractive and i opted for mackerel starter and a john dory main - I tried to mix it up but they looked the most eye catching - The setting is very elegant but only a small dining area and you really wouldn't expect to find this little gem in a hotel! Overall the experience was an 8/10 everything was too a high standard - The drinks were very expensive but you'd expect that in this type of environment. It was all very good but something was missing...cant quite put my finger on it so i will have to go back again! Only paid for partner and myself course set meal £30 per head then drinks a further £30 on top so £90 in total for a couple. will defo go again. ;-)

Stayed 2 nights at this lovely country lodge. If you stay with them they do try to provide you with priority booking in the restaurant as it is very popular with locals and people who are staying in the area. All very well organised. You tend to be seated initially in their conservatory and offered canapés and drinks where you can peruse the menu and make your meal choices. All the food is locally sourced or even grown by the hotel. The restaurant itself is warm and cosy and tastefully lit.Service was excellent throughout. The food beautifully presented and tasty and rather rich so very filling indeed.I would not hesitate to eat there again.

We ate here twice while we stayed at the hotel. The first time was outstanding, with both my wife and I walking away enjoying the meal to the point of feeling that the high price was worth it. Unfortunately the second time left a bit more to be desired as it just hit a few funny notes, i.e. steaks being cooked sous vide despite not being mentioned as such and not being browned afterwards, counter to what I expected when ordering. The service was very good throughout and the location is charming, though smoking parties outside can cause the dining room to smell a bit when the doors are open.

Hillary, Stephen, and Laura are a terrific family and team who run an amazing hotel. Every employee was warm, friendly, helpful, and immediately knew our names and remembered where we had been sightseeing each day. All the food was outstanding, our room was lovely and comfortable, and the gardens and conservatory were delightful. We hated to leave.

Invited to dinner in the restaurant at Ty'n Rhos. The meal was excellent and the hostess had alerted the staff that I was gluten allergic and so the staff able to advise immediately which dishes I could choose. We all thoroughly enjoyed our respective choices and would definitely visit again. We stayed here a couple of years ago, but did not have a chance to eat at the restaurant then! There is a beautiful garden where we enjoyed an aperitif and after dinner saw a wonderful sunset.

We ate here on both nights on a recent stay and both myself and my wife thought the food was excellent. We both had the lamb on the first night and it was the best lamb I have ever had, so tender and brimming with flavour. It was cooked to perfection, nice and pink. We managed three courses on the first night, but only managed two courses on the second night. We also had breakfast in with our rooms and this was fantastic also with a great choice.

In two minds after reading some of the reviews below, but not many places of this quality are open on Monday nights and the most recent review suggested it would be a good choice. It was certainly worth the risk. Service was friendly and helpful from the moment I picked up the phone. Only one vegetarian option per course on the sample menus, but we were asked on booking if there were vegetarian and they seem to have put on extra choices for us. They had even taken the vegetarians in our party into consideration for the amuse-bouche. We went on a quiet Monday night, but the intimate setting meant that we didn't feel awkward or out of place even when the other large party left. The food was excellent. No regrets at taking a chance on "just" roast chicken: the confit of leg in a cabbage leaf was superb and the breast had perfectly crispy skin and yet fell apart at the touch of the knife (as had the smidgeon of pork belly which accompanied the first-course scallops). Coffee and salted caramel petits fours finished off a wonderful evening.

On a recent visit to Barmouth we found this little Gem of a place that is open on Sundays. There was a special board out side and it was the Cheese and Onion pie that drew us in . Both my husband and me had this and it came with new potatoes and salad . It was delicious and very reasonably priced . We were naughty and were too tempted by the delicious homemade sweets and puds they had to offer . I had the jam and coconut cake and my husband opted for the apple pie. They were presented lovely with fruit and a pot of cream on the side. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning next time we are in Barmouth

We stopped here for breakfast twice, having been disappointed by the service at another establishment. The breakfast rolls are tasty, especially the sausages, and both the tea and coffee were good. Fair prices and very friendly service. Outdoor seating where you can eat your food whilst enjoying the beautiful views of Llanberis and its surroundings. Also does delicious cakes, milkshakes and hot chocolate. Highly recommended.
