The Barmouth Bar and Grill in Gwynedd

Food was lovely second time we have eaten there not been disappointed.

My sister booked us up while we were in Barmouth. I wish she hadn't! Firstly, any restaurant, apart from fast food, who ask for payment up front should be a avoided. Ordered a bottle of £25 Merlot. It was 11% proof which shows a bad wine. It was like vinegar. Trouble is my party drank it. Food came. I had a ribeye with optional extra garlic prawns (which were cheap king prawns microwaved in a dish with garlic butter). To be fair the steak was cooked medium rare as I asked, but had not been rested, so I had red juices soaking into the chips. The chips were frozen ones not freshly cut and awful and then became soggy with the meat juices. Awful place, they just don't seem to care as long as money is coming in from holiday makers. Avoid!

Decent enough. Persian kebab was nicely presented & well cooked but wife had a Caesar salad that was very dry with barely a hint of dressing. Service from the staff was good from the younger employees but the elder (possibly owners) did smack of it being tiresome for them. Okay given it’s a tourist destination but nothing to set it aside from the rest

The food was lovely, they let us sit in with our dog which was appreciated. Wasn’t too busy, though they were playing country music quite loudly during our whole meal, which I do think is a genre which many people don’t enjoy.

Went to this restaurant on Friday night I thought this looks a nice clean establishment. It was fairly quiet so was unsure whether the food would be good. I’m glad I stayed as the food was cooked to a very good standard. It come out hot and was very reasonably priced. Staff were also very friendly and chatty made us feel welcome. I was very impressed I went there for dinner the next day and although it was a lot busier I still got the same very good service will deffo visit again.

We had a quick lunch here yesterday. I had the steak panini and my wife had the bacon and Brie. The food was genuinely lovely, a little pricey when you see the menu but well worth it. It was however very cold in the place. The bar staff had their coat on and it was needed. The music was also quite loud for middle of the day.

Eat here every year we visit barmouth and have never had a bad experience food is lovely staff are friendly cant wait to visit again next year

I had beef, hubby had lamb and both excellent. Very doggy friendly too. The waiter was a lovely young man who was so polite and attentive. Lucky enough to have just walked in but can imagine it gets very busy.

It's mid-March, really cold and there were only a few customers. The beer was good, as were my husband's fish and chips. I enjoyed my salt and pepper squid. The country music was a bit annoying, though. It's a pub and met all expectations.

Was pleasantly surprised at how good the pizza was, good value on a deal day too. Had a Salt ale on tap too, not sure how long that will last, but from my perspective it was great.

Friendly staff, no longer has pool table, more restaurant than pub bar

Sooo nice we had chicken in white wine sauce it was fantastic I would say it is the best we had in Barmouth I would definitely recommend and we would definitely be going back next time we are there thank you we loved it

Dog friendly bar with a nice relaxed atmosphere and delicious food, the fillet steak was one of the best I’ve had, perfectly cooked. Fish and chips were great as the desserts were lovely.

Popped in for lunch. Very quiet in the pub maybe one or two tables in. Both had steak and onion ciabatta. Nice fresh side salad. Bowl of chips to share. Huge portion we could not finish. Average menu prices. 2 pints. Lovely clean toilets. Worth a visit.

Coming from the mountains, we were looking for something good for an afternoon meal and we got it all here. Confit duck, hot wings, chicken in a white wine sauce. Everything was tasty, well-cooked and enough for an empty stomach. Lots of space inside, friendly service and really good food. We recommend.

We visited this pub last week and stay really happy with our choice. We have ordered a lot of food, and all was very tasty and delicious 🥰 very fresh. Very nice drinks. Bar is in the centre of Barmouth in very nice place, very close to the seaside and mountains. What I liked that everything was very clean inside. Big thank you for that. Also for Christmas decorations🥰 I made beaufiful video, I unfortunately I can't download it into reviews..

Had cod and chips they were delicious 😋. Great choice of drinks couldn't fault it 👌 👍.

5* review for our Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, plentiful and piping hot. The fruit crumble was equally tasty served with Custard or good quality Ice cream. Needless to say we left contented with very full tummies.

Very disappointed! Had the Tuesday Steak Night T-bone. Very well presented food, however, asked for medium but it was very rare and unevenly cooked and cold. The garlick prawns (also cold) and mushrooms and the tiny side salad were the best part of the meal. Would not recommend.

Food here was amazing!! Asked to speak to one of the chefs and a young blone beautiful girl came down, we gave her our compliments and she was lovely!! Talked us in to getting pudding;) The service from waitresses was spot on… young red heard boy went above and beyond.cant wait for our next night out.

Salad served with a funny spoiled smell..gave us a new one. Food is ok and what helped to to achieve the 3 stars was your excellent beer! Thank you for that!

Katy was the most excellent host! We were struggling for a table with how busy it was, and she did everything she could to make sure we were accommodated. The most delicious food and some of the best service we have ever had. If you’re in Barmouth make sure you come here!

Solid family friendly no frills traditional pub venue with pocket friendly prices.

Food was lovely, I personally had a ceasar salad which was really really nice. However the girl that served us was not friendly at all, attitude on her you could smell from a mile away. It’s like she didn’t want to be there and just didn’t want to do her job. Overall though, lovely food, really nice inside I recommend coming here.

Beautiful food, reasonable price

Ate here on Saturday evening with my partner. I ordered the mango and chicken curry and my partner ordered the Asian noodles. We both received bland ,tasteless food. Both meals tasted like they were both microwave heated ready meals and my popadom was stale. Furthermore the young girl who served us was exceptionally rude. Looking at previous reviews here, this seems to be a common theme. No one came to ask us if everything was OK with the food. The girl who took our plates away did not utter a single word. No-one said goodbye as we exited. Needless to say ,we will not be back.

Popped in here and luckily they had a table available. We had halloumi fries, Korean chicken wings and a Welsh beef burger. The food was incredible, the chips were some of the best I’ve ever had. As for the staff they were lovely and welcoming.

Phenomenal lamb roast. Highly recommend.

The food is really good, I had gammon egg and pineapple. I have to say it was the nicest one I have had for years. My wife had the Welsh burger which she loved, my son had rib eye steak and was really impressed. And the chips are brilliant. The staff are very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for meals.

We popped in for tea on a Saturday PM and it was incredibly busy and was fully booked. Thankfully, the bar staff managed to find us a comfy table with a moments notice. I had the gammon and my friend had a pizza - both meals were served swiftly and the portions were fabulous. Both were incredibly tasty with no complaints. Brilliant staff and a tasty menu.

Quiet little pub great food and even better customer service

Delicious food had the curry which was fairly mild (I'm a light weight when it comes to spices) and tasty. There were 6 of us all having various meals off the traditional menu we all enjoyed it. Service was swift and it was not too busy at lunch when we visited last week. Dogs are allowed.

Excellent fish and chips, good service, good to see families and dogs allowed in. Service very good and friendly and good to see they checked we were happy with the food. Having read some of the negative reviews in here i can only guess they reviewed the wrong place or moan about everything!

Pre booked table as there were 12 of us, no problem. All the food was ordered at once on the same order, and we were allowed to pay separately after the meal. Excellent food, with everybody's meals being piping hot and very tasty. Very nice staff, helpful and pleasant.

Don't deserve a star ... the pub is lovely and we were looking forward to a nice meal a few drinks and after looking at the online menu we were sure this was the place .... what a huge mistake. We went in to be greeted at the bar by a miserable waitress and could cut the tension with a knife. After being shown to the table the waitress sat back in the corner where she is sat with I'm assuming other staff (they also have been serving,if you can call it that ) where they are just drinking vapeing and getting clearly annoyed when someone approaches the bar. We were sat opposite them and they were swearing which is extremely unprofessional. I get it's out of season at the moment but wow there is really no excuse! We asked to move and they just left us to re-seat ourselves. Apparently now when you make a reservation service isn't included. We sat there watching them as they got up to serve from their personal lives and not once did they wash there hands! The food was mediocre at best and not even piping hot as you would expect from an empty pub. There wasn't 1 check back so we had to go to the bar again to tell them the food wasn't edible. My partner had to have his food replaced where as I made due as I felt so uncomfortable with the lack of professionalism. I now understand why other restaurants were fully booked and this one was so empty. I f I were there manager I'd seriously be reconsidering some roles. The attitude of the staff here is so damaging to the brand and God help the business owner. Non of their hair is tied back and only 1 had uniform on. Let's hope EHO isn't doing a visit anytime soon or the police for that matter as a lad looking no older than 16 is also helping serve drinks. Perhaps their time would be better spent doing a good clean instead of drinking and breaking the law vapeing in a public place !

Decent pub with simple but tasty pub meals and a good selection of drinks. Prompt and friendly service and dog-friendly.

Editing review based on revisit 09/2024 Bit confusing on seating, FYI sit at any table without a reserved sign! Waitress strangely couldn’t tell us this after asking twice?? manager kindly let us know this. Food was great, nice atmosphere, staff don’t seem too happy, but they were under pressure. 05/2023 - Popped in for a quick pint, youngish lady was not very welcoming, stated we must sit at a certain table and was quite abrupt serving us, seemed quite off and rude… decided not to spend any more money for a meal in this establishment. 0/10 won’t be visiting again.

Called in for late lunch yesterday. Ordered the chicken in Peri Peri sauce. When it came I felt sick. It just had sauce poured on a piece of chicken. The chicken was very red near the bone and I couldn't eat it. I went to show the staff who responded it's been cooked longer than usual so it's fine. It wasn't fine it knocked me sick. Would definitely not recommend.

Absolutely an amazing place … went as a couple with our boxer dog… then went back with Mum and Dad and boxer dog! Steak was so good … went back as a couple with our boxer dog…. Can’t fault them landlord so lovely 🥰 welcomed us all and made a fuss of our boxer xx ❤️

We went around lunch time and it was quite busy so we were lucky to get a seat without booking in advance. When entering the establishment the atmosphere was very cool, lots of chatting and quiet music on in the background however no one was there to greet us so stood awkwardly for about 5 minutes between the bar and a table waiting for staff to make sure we could eat there. After being seated by a very polite waitress we went to the bar to order food, the wait for food was ordinary however the food, although edible, was highly unsatisfactory. We ordered Two mains and a side order to share as a starter (we asked at the bar and they said this was okay.) however the starter came 5 minutes after the mains arrived. The pizza seemed freshly made but the taste lacked real flavour and was extremely greasy. The halloumi flatbread was dry and was packed with enough halloumi to feed 4 people, not complaining about the amount however by the time you get round to eating the last of it, it’s cold and rubbery. I would normally recommend this place however considering the hefty price of £60 for a fairly inadequate meal I’d have to advise against it. Best thing about this place was the bottled cider in the fridge, ice cold.

Great place for dining, good food and great atmosphere

I went to this smart modern bar with a friend for an early Dinner. On arrival it was fairly busy, we didn't have a reservation but were still seated by a member of staff. We both chose a chicken burger from the large varied menu. The burgers arrived promptly and were hot and tasty but nothing amazing. However, the home made pavlovas we chose for dessert were fabulous, easily the best pud I have had in a long time. Crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, topped with fresh cream and lovely berries.

Very busy day but the food was good pub food. You had to go the bar for service.

Great place for lunch. Fresh tasty food. My son has the pizza and it was huge and homemade. We had tuna and cheese ciabattas. And they were served with a lovely dressed salad

Visited here for a lunchtime meal. Was very busy and didn't wait long for a table. The food was delicious and served hot. Didn't wait long for meals. Service was good. The only problem found was maintenance noise in the background the whole time we were dining.

Awful customer services staff at end of bar on phones all the time we was in bar served us wrong drinks and tutted and slamed them down worst part we could hear them calling other customers and swearing with lots of children in bar avoid at all cost

We called in here on mid pub crawl feeling the dinner time hunger the menu had so much taste we had to indulge in a couple of pints of ale my wife and I decided on the Pork belly flat bread with salad and I had the gammon no pineapple as that’s witchcraft absolutely fantastic food pork belly literally melted in your mouth well done to the staff highly recommend

One of the few places in Barmouth that offer vegan food. Clean throughout, food was served quickly. We visited on a very hot day and they had the doors open, which ended up making the place smell of car fumes. Otherwise brilliant place to get some food in Barmouth.

Long wait for food. Food ok nothing special my advice would be take a look around before settling here.

Great pub. Five of us walked in on a busy Saturday lunch time. Got a table, ordered food & drinks and it was there in good time. Excellent quality & value for money. Couldn’t fault it. A lot of expensive places in Barmouth but this one doesn’t feel like a rip off, so will return.

Such a great experience. We visit as a family teenager and grandparent. Booths were private and comfortable seating and well suited for the wheelchair. Very clean restaurant and toilets Lovely welcoming atmosphere and pleasant friendly staff. Great prices great food and very tasty with a wonderful menu. Lasagna , British pizza and halloumi kebab were fantastic and very good portion size. We often visit Barmouth and always use this pub and never fails. Thank you see you soon.

Okay place for large groups. Good pub food, but the fish and chips weren't the best, fish was quite soggy.

Staff were very helpful in helping us get a table. Food was lovely and all of us agreed- chicken kebab, Halloumi kebab and lasagne followed by amazing chocolate brownie and profiteroles. Food was fresh, hot and good size portions. Will definitely return if in the area

Might be THE worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. The servers/ bar staff were not arsed at all, was too funny. We walked in and they didn’t greet us just on their phones, then we’re given some half arsed instructions about eating/ table etc. Slapped the food down on the table and upon leaving just glared at us as we walked out. The food was really nice and the awful customer service made the visit rather enjoyable. I thought it was really funny and I didn’t know if it might have been a skit.

We booked a big party of 28 people. The staff were well organised and told us what was needed from us. When we arrived the tables were set, the food was served quickly and together. It was served hot and delicious. Paying was easy and the whole evening was a success due to the great customer service and well cooked food. Highly recommend

I liked it in here. First time in and the beer was decent and although we didn't eat, the food that was being brought out looked really good. Good atmosphere and will definitely be returning here.

Food took over an hour, 2 plates were missing items named on the menu, lots of people were complaining how long it was taking.

Was expecting a nice meal from here but the food is only OK. Expensive for the quality of the food. The kids meals looked like frozen food from Iceland and adult burgers not that tasty or nice. Just OK.

Honestly hands down the best place to eat in Barmouth. Tourist and dog friendly. Fresh quick food, reasonably priced. Don't leave without trying the Sea Bass. It's fantastic !!!!

Really great find in Barmouth. We had the fish platter, pork belly bites and a portion of onion rings. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

Called in for a quick drink with family. Prompt service and welcoming atmosphere. Didn't eat but food offerings look fantastic. We will be back!
