Good selection of beers, with some local ales and the usual stuff you would expect to find. The food was lovely, great atmosphere, very welcoming and accommodating. We had dinner here a couple of times over the weekend. The staff and owners were great, they put up with us getting a little jolly on Saturday evening, when we got stranded with car troubles and Mark even helped us find a replacement part locally to get up back on the road the next morning. Would highly recommend, and we will definitely be stopping in again when next in the area. Thanks for adding to our weekend :)

Visited this evening, managed to grab a table before last food orders. We had the beef in ale pie with veg, and lamb rogan josh. The pie was packed with tender beef and topped with puff pastry, generous amount of steamed veg and roast potatoes. Lamb Rogan Josh was packed with flavour, nicely spiced, served with rice, naan, mango chutney and yogurt. The pub is such a warm and welcoming place to enjoy food and a pint, we can't wait to come and try more of the menu next time!

This is a community pub reopened around a year ago. Spend enough time here on a Friday and you'll meet some members of the community. I would rate the food but I didn't have any, basically I took a good look at the menu and specials, I just couldn't make up my mind. So I missed the ordering window. Though I heard nothing but praise for the food. So there's that. There's inside and outside space to eat and it doesn't feel tourist focused, away from the shadow of Snowdon. I do understand the importance of tourism for local communities, it's just that sometimes a place can loose something of its sense of self. I found this to be the case a little bit with St. Davids. Anyway I digress. I would highly recommend a visit and to support the village overall while you're here. There's a cafe in the village, a photographic archive of the local area, and some kind of steam train close by. I'm unsure about accommodation overall, but there's a camp site about a mile down the road so an easy walk if you want to spend the evening in the pub and don't want to drive. The village was built for slate mining and it's left its mark. I like this village a lot you can feel part of something special here, even if you're just passing through. Highly recommend.

This is a truly welcoming traditional community hub. The staff and local customers are well experienced in accomodating holiday guests and take great pride in welcoming both regular visitors, passing holidaymakers and travellers. The ethos of no one being a stranger is delightful for all ready to share a Warm Welsh welcome and late evening traditional songs may be heard and enjoyed as they have been for time immemorial. The new owner is a treasured and well respected gem in the community diligently supporting and employing young people often in their first ever job, encouraging and inclusive of all her youngsters she is well loved. Well worth a visit, you will experience a broad menu of considered and healthful home cooking made with vivid and fragrant fresh ingredients and as much care as you would expect from your favourite Aunty on a Sunday. Immediately adjacent to the pub and pride of the village is a very well kept fully fenced playpark with an array of play equipment for different ages and modern comfortable benches funded by the community, perfect for little ones to delight in the fresh air and make new friends while you order.

An absolute shambles. The good reviews must be from locals, who were clearly the favourites here. As non Caucasian customers, it must have been evident we were 'not from around' there, & therefore we became an afterthought for the entire evening. We arrived at 4.05pm, ravenous after a 2hr walk, only to discover the half term food service was from 12-2 & 6-8. Devastated, with a starving 5yr old girl & 13yr old boy, we decided we'd call in for a drink & ask if there was any way we could get served food sooner. The lad behind the bar was friendly & attempted to help by asking the question of what I can only assume was the owner. He then apologetically explained that food only started being cooked at 6pm but that they could ensure our order was the first in. Based on this we made the poor decision to 'wait out' the 1.5hrs till service. When I attempted to preorder he explained the menu has to be altered slightly first. From 4.30-5.15pm there was no activity on the menu. Nor any mention of the games they had available hidden in a corner, though they knew we had a lot of time to kill & kids to distract. We painstakingly watched the owner slowly alter the menu at 530, removing salad from the chilli con carne but charging the same £12 for it. She actually still forgot to add chocolate fudge cake to the menu in the dog friendly area. At 5.40pm I heard a customer mention the charcuterie board to the owner so I popped my head in to ask her if they were taking orders yet. My 5yr old daughter was with me, saying "mama I'm hungry" over & over. The owner told me no & that I had to wait till 6pm strictly. The most unsympathetic, cold hearted person in service I've ever come across. She looked straight through me & my hungry child. The reason I say this is because MULTIPLE orders were placed at 5.50pm, not from us & definitely before us. How can your heart not melt when a little kid is begging for food? Why not offer a bit of bread or nibbles, anything? Nothing. We placed our order at 5.53pm thanks to my 13yr old spotting that they'd accepted orders before 6pm - cheeky! Still we ended up being served almost entirely last. My kids watched as the 2 tables in our area, who'd gotten in just before us were served food around 20mins later. It gave them hope that we were next. But then came a pause of another 30 mins before we saw any food, where my starving kids had to watch other people eating & finishing their meals. No explanation as to the delay, but it was obvious they were serving the non dog friendly side of the restaurant before us. All in all we waited 50mins from ordering to eating. The only generous portion was the soup, the rest was TINY for the price. It all tasted good but not in a million years worth the pain or money in the end. We stupidly then ordered dessert, thinking, how long can it take to serve pre made items? While waiting I was asked how everything was & I honestly admitted we weren't very happy about how the service was going. Despite this pudding took another 30mins. The server came out 15 mins after I ordered actually saying "pudding" with 2 plates in her hand, only to heart brakingly, soul destroyingly do a 180 back into the kitchen, never to be heard from again. At this point, completely fuming I went to the bar to ask what time I had ordered dessert, so I could calculate how long we'd been waiting, but I never got an answer for that. When dessert finally came, there was no explanation as to why it took so long to serve a pre made slice of warmed apple pie & the tiniest £6.50 pre made slice of cheesecake. Just a quick sorry for the delay. What is there to like here? The younger staff were polite enough but doesn't excuse the overall cold, mean, discriminatory management & slow, unfair, service. The only positive is they ARE dog friendly with great treats. I've slept on it & I'm still gobsmacked at how badly things went down yesterday. Never seen anything like it in my life.

We were recommended this pub in the welcome book of the cottage we were staying in, in Abergynolwyn. We were just staying for the weekend and of the three nights only decided to eat out on the Saturday night. We went over at 6pm. It took at least 5 minutes for the bar maid to actually acknowledge us, no ‘hello or I’ll be with you a minute’. When finally spoken to we said that we would like to have dinner and she said you have to book to go in the restaurant (which we were not at all aware of) not ‘have you booked?’, ‘sorry, we’re fully booked’ or ‘I’ll see if we have any tables free’. I assume the restaurant wasn’t fully booked as it was empty when we walked past the window on the way in and out of the pub. She then said we could sit at one of the tables in the bar area. We chose what we wanted to eat and went to the bar to order. This time it took at least 10 minutes for us to be spoken too. The barmaid was constantly walking to and from the kitchen which appeared to be miles away. People sat at the bar were also commenting on how slow the service was. The food arrived in good time and the waitress was friendly. We had a burger and a beef lasagne. The lasagne was burnt and the burger was very dense. Both served with a lot of chips. Neither of us finished our meals. The thing that annoyed me most of all though was that a family of 4 came in after we had ordered our food and asked if they could order food. The barmaid then said that she would see if there were any tables free in the restaurant. Surprise surprise, there were and off they went into the restaurant. The responses from the pub to negative reviews on here appear to say ‘why didn’t you mention this on the night?’. Well to that I would say that you shouldn’t have to complain about things like this and even if we attempted to we probably would have been waiting at the bar to do so. I don’t like going out and having to complain about things. I guess we just won’t be going back if we visit Abergynolwyn again.

I think the reviews on here must be from all their friends as my experience in this restaurant was awful. Extremely poor service, didn’t get asked if we needed anything, (we did but no staff available to ask) no steak knife, gristly steak, couldn’t ask for another drink (and didn’t get asked if we needed one). When we asked a question about the menu it all seemed too much hassle for the staff to bother to find out for us. Made to feel uncomfortable for asking and no real answer to the question. Food overpriced for what it was.

We didn’t book as we didn’t think it was necessary on a miserable evening at the beginning of April, however we were lucky to get the last table in the bar, which was exactly as I remembered it back in the 1980’s. The atmosphere was perfect for a country pub which is so lacking in all the gastro pubs that are popping up everywhere now. The menu was varied without being extensive, and there was a good specials board.the wine was excellent too. We both had vegetarian lasagne with chips and a small but interesting side salad. The pudding ( sticky toffee & butterscotch pudding) was perfect. We chatted to the locals and enjoyed the evening so much we are going back tomorrow. Many thanks.

We went for an Autumn holiday and visited here for a birthday meal. We were delighted with the kind and helpful sevice, let alone high quality and generous quantity of food. Top marks all round!

Called in here earlier this week for first time....won't be my last ! The beer was well kept and very good.and the food was excellent and quickly served. The guy behind the bar ( the landlord I think) was friendly and informative when I was asking about the pub history and the area. A brilliant proper pub, with a restaurant too ,and it was quiet busy for a Tuesday. Oh and ask about the very spicy pickled eggs with different chilli levels!! The other customers in the pub were friendly too. A great pub .

I went here with my husband a few weeks ago. The staff seemed rushed off their feet but there was only 3 tables taken!? Starters were quite nice although my husband had prawn cocktail, loads of lettuce and only a few prawns, no lemon, we did try to ask for some but it fell on deaf ears! Main course my husband had chicken covered in cajun spices, quite nice but chicken overcooked so much it was really dry, it was on a bed of iceburg lettuce and that was it! We complained but no apology, just offered something else but I was already half way through eating mine and after all it had taken ages! We asked the bill but noticed that one of the starters had £1 added to it, when we asked about it the waitress said it was the 'till', we mentioned that we had visited a few weeks before and the same thing happened, and we mentioned it then but they obviously haven't done anything about this issue. I wouldn't say they were that friendly when we challenged them on these points but we wont be back.

We called here twice in the last 10 days as we had friends staying with us and knew we would get a really good bar meal. On both occasions we were very happy with the service and the food. All I will say on the second occasion I went I only has a main course as the portions are on the large size.

Ate here twice. Both times food was excellent. Proper home cooked meals. Friday night was very quiet and Saturday night was very busy. The quality of the food and service could not be faulted even on the busy night. Would definitely recommend eating here if your visiting the area.

Dropped by on the off chance for a family meal - might be worth booking in advance if possible.

We were a party of 20 & they accommodated us brilliantly. The manager couldn't have been more helpful when we made the booking and the staff on the day were brilliant too. We sent through a pre-order the day before which helped us & the kitchen I think. The food was lovely, piping hot and massive portions. We went based on reviews from locals & so glad we did as it was excellent all round. Thoroughly recommend.

Salad served with a funny spoiled smell..gave us a new one. Food is ok and what helped to to achieve the 3 stars was your excellent beer! Thank you for that!

Just Mind-blowing in a single word. This is a place where one can find friendly and amiable service which is guaranteed and at the same time quality foods which is really mouth watering. I love this place. ❤️
