A seasonal cafe that is within the walled of Caernarfon Castle. Quaint and has retained many features. Traditional good food - from light bites - cooked breakfast and snacks. Great coffee. Family owned and run for over 50 years. Looking forward to returning at Easter.

We found this place by chance, while trying to escape a miserable cold wet day (in summer!) after visiting the nearby castle. The staff seated us promptly (we must have looked cold and wet!). The vegetable soup was delicious and I also tried "Pice ar y maen" as I had no idea what a welsh cake actually was. The surroundings were very cosy and homely . Spotlessly clean bathroom.

So. A difficult place to review, as so mixed. The staff were very nice and welcoming, no issues at all. The food was nice tasty, well prepared, fresh and O.K. the main issue was portion size and price point. I understand things are going up, but cheese on toast with mushrooms £8+ for one slice of bread! "Welsh Rarebit!" Rare in portion size for the money. 5 stopped for lunch £58 later we all left hungry. Also it was really cold inside. I'd like to offer more but struggling given what was ordered, we all felt the same

A wet Sunday lunchtime with a 4 year old. Refuge needed. Tucked away in a passageway, this is a hiddden gem. Nothing pretentious - straightforard Welsh food. Several variations on the Welsh Rarebit which we tried and tasty soup of the day. But the show stopper was the hot chocolate. They said it was just Cadbury's but they must do something diffeently from other cafes. It hasd a richness which we had not encountered before. Perhaps there was mor milk in place of water, but whatever they did it was glorious. All the dishes were beautifully prepared and the salad was real - not two leaves and a tomato. Service was friendly and efficient and prices did not break the bank. Put this one in your diary for your next visit to Caernarfon.

My husband and I visited this lovely little eatery in August whilst we were on holiday, in fact we visited twice as the food was great, freshly made, and very filling we had a Sandwich and a Toasted Blt and both were great, big pot of tea and water for our little dog (the min jack russell) who they made a total fuss of. We would definately be calling here again sometime, the staff were very welcoming and would highly recommend it A Hidden gem. Thanks ladies.

called for lunch, waitress was on her own,pot of tea provided in nice matching china, ordered toasted sandwiches which took ages to arrive. We could hear scraping noises and our food was spoiled by burnt toast which she had cleverly put on the inside of the sandwich so we couldn't see but definitely tasted and saw. Such a nice experience here! After spending the morning touring the castle, my husband, daughters (ages 17 and 20), and I were hungry and ready to sit. After trying another unfriendly restaurant, we walked into the Bell Tower Cafe and immediately felt welcomed. My husband had a ham and tomato toastie, my youngest had lovely vegetable soup, and my eldest daughter and I had excellent omelettes. Best of all, the chef and waitress engaged us in a lovely conversation about Wales. They made us feel as if we were guests in their home. Just what one wants when visiting another country!

4 of us headed to this little cafe for a very late lunch after wandering around the castle. It was very quaint with old fashioned little seats with cushions, and proper tea cups and tea pots. The service was great, both waitresses were very friendly. The dishes came out a little slowly (one by one with a delay in between each) but the waitress did apologize. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced we thought, especially considering its position to the castle.

We were visiting the castle and found this cafe whilst looking for a light lunch. The cafe is quite small and cozy, it is traditionally decorated. We shared a pot of tea and both ordered buck rarebit. We got a very large pot of tea with a jug of hot water (how rarely do you see that these days?) served with proper china cups and saucers (none of which matched, She Who Must Be Obeyed tells me that this is something called "shabby chic," I'll take her word for it) and the buck rarebit was tasty, the cheese sauce well flavoured and a proper dunky egg on top. The price was very reasonable, and the menu reasonably extensive for a small cafe. Service was friendly and efficient.

After a disastrous experience at another cafe we found this place tucked up an alley. It had obviously once been someone's front room it was so small but there was a single table outside which we chose as the weather was sunny. We arrived late on a saturday (4.30) and were warmly welcomed by the lady proprietor. She clearly takes a pride in "her" cafe. Tea was in a huge pot with extra water and milk and my son's milkshake was spot on. Sadly we had no room for any of the cakes, all of which looked home-made and huge. This is an old-fashioned type of tea shop - no chrome or smoked glass here, but it felt very honest and welcoming and I'd definitely go back.

We had a real disappointment at an upmarket local cafe which when asked for Earl Gray tea produced two cups half full with water and a infuser each, when we took out the device there was only a couple of mouthfuls of liquid and that is not what we want for our money. A while later we fell over this unasuming cafe in a back lane. It is totally unpretensious, the Lady who runs it greeted us enthusiastically and duly an enormous pot of tea arrived with hot water in a jug, she even offered us a refill if we wanted it. Soon we were full of excellent tea at only £2pp plus we indulged in some Welsh Rarebit, which was gooey and tasty.Great little place, thanks.

I am very picky about my food and drinks with 15 years in hospitality. I expect people to get the basics right and given my past experience of remote places in wales my expectations were not that high. What a lovely surprise!
