Restaurant at The Woods in Birmingham

Popped in as we were passing as we loved the look from outside. Chloe was great and attentive, the music was fun and nostalgic and we generally had a really lovely time! Will love to come back for food sometime in the future.

This place is a bit over hyped on Instagram. We wanted the sharing brunch, but to swap out the meat for veggie options (we brunch a lot, and this is perfectly normal in many places. And if not, most places offer a suitable alternative). The waiter asked the chef who said no changes were possible. Nothing at all. Asked to speak to a manager, was told he was busy but would come shortly. We ordered anyway. Food took 40 minutes to come out. Manager never came - couldn't be bothered to speak to us. Not the best service, won't be going back. Food was ok, average. But with that service I'd rather eat elsewhere

Very nice looking restaurant, was very quiet when we went. Service was good although a little slow (but we weren't in a rush so we didn't mind). Starters were good and huge, but the main courses were the highlight, steak and pork belly being excellent. The wine was good also. Shout out to Jake our server who was very helpful!

Wwooowww this place is a must one of the best places I've ever been for a meal, the light ordering system is brilliant one colour for u wanting to order the other light that you're fine. I had the venison puddings for starter and duck for main and it was absolutely delicious, my partner had the cola wings for starter and the burger in the woods (venison burger) for main he said it was absolutely lovely. Had read mixed reviews about this restaurant but thought as we are staying nearby we’d give it a try. Arrived on time of booking and were asked about drinks almost straight away. Drinks arrived 5 minutes later and we were asked for our food order so we gave it. That’s where it all went wrong. 20 minutes later I asked about our order and was told it was being plated up. Another 20 minutes and I was told it would be a few minutes. After exactly 1 hour and 5 minutes we decided to leave. My husband is diabetic and really needed to eat. So at 9.30 we were walking around trying to find a restaurant to eat in. Ridiculous as lots of staff but clearly no chefs.

Went here for a date night and had a lovely meal. The food was really delicious if a little on the pricey side, and some of the cocktails have a cool quirky touch. The wine list has some nice options on there, too. The staff were friendly and the service quick. I believe our wait person was called Chloe and she was really good. I do however feel that people who are sat facing the front windows of the restaurant don’t get quite the same experience as those facing into the restaurant and seeing all the decor. The place isn’t huge (as some instagram vids would have you believe), but the theming is cute and it would have been nice to see it more rather than facing the people walking past the restaurant. Not a massive problem but I think more effort could be made with the decor for those not facing into the main area. In addition, the upstairs area would have been nice to sit in, but didn’t appear to be in use, except for guests to go up to where the toilets were located. The toilets themselves were just vile, sorry guys but these massively let you down. The photo booth is a nice touch, but I think seating guests upstairs as well as down would be a good idea. As I say we were on a date night but kind of sandwiched between the other tables and not able to really have a nice romantic meal as kind of on display barely a few inches from neighbour tables. Overall a nice experience but with minimal effort could be perfect.

Went for the first time and last time at the weekend. The clue should have come from the fact that we walked in on a Saturday evening on the off chance and were seated straight away from dinner. The fact it got busy at no point says it all. Once seated the service went rapidly downhill very quickly. Considering there were almost more staff than there were diners you would expect to get service pretty rapidly however we waited 20 minutes for anyone to take a drinks order. Once we had got over that we ordered 3 starters, they came quickly and were good. Next mains which came within an acceptable time, the food was ok but nothing special. Then we went for dessert, or we were going to go for dessert. Asked the waitress if we could have a dessert menu, she told us it was in the drinks menu so we looked through and chose 2 desserts. Another waitress came over to take the order after 10 minutes. We ordered to be told that neither of those desserts were available and all they had was eton mess, cheesecake and brownie. Had the original waitress told us this we wouldn't have searched through, chosen and waited 10 minutes for service, we would have just left. Then the bill came out. The waiter gave us the bill and had the card machine with the amount ready on it which was odd as the 10% service charge is supposedly optional, it is not optional, it is added to your printed bill, they have that amount ready to go on their card machine and they expect you to pay it. I guess that they can say you can have it removed by requesting it however they are well aware that the majority of diners will not do so to avoid the scene. If it is optional then do not add it and give the diner the opportunity to add one on the card machine or set up some sort of system rather than force it upon people. I was never going to pay for service as it was chaotic and having been dealt with no less than 4 members of staff none of which really warranted a "tip" it is disappointing that they add it just to get it forced onto you. I shall not be back which is disappointing as the theme is something different.

We recently experienced the farm-sharing meal and, regrettably, it did not meet the £100 price point. While the food was adequate, the steak was chewy and lacked quality, and the macaroni and cheese was overly herbed, lacking a proper cheesy sauce. The salad, hidden beneath the other dishes, was soggy and flattened due to the heat of the meat, rendering it unappealing. Additionally, the portion of fries was small, and the batter on the chicken tenders was excessively thick, overshadowing the chicken itself. The service was satisfactory; however, there was no follow-up after our meals were served, leading to an overall feeling of disappointment with the experience. Although the decor initially appeared fun and unique, it became increasingly tacky over time. The projected screen displayed on the walls did not harmonize with the restaurant's theme and merely showcased a YouTube video of a forest, which eventually defaulted to the YouTube homepage upon completion. Had high hopes for this dining experience but unfortunately it didn’t meet expectations.

Christmas shopping with friends and we chose this place for lunch with cocktails. We were not disappointed! Great atmosphere, lovely food and possibly the best cocktails ever! Will definitely be back - thank you ☺️

Amazing time! We came to celebrate my birthday with my mom, sister and baby nephew. The staff were so lovely, really accommodating and super friendly to my nephew who is only just over 1 years old :) it was such a great afternoon tea, the food was delicious and was a beautiful place too celebrate and Curtis especially made it amazing. He is a credit to your team! we will deffo return and will be telling others to defiantly go ☺️

Waste of money - tbh you are only paying for the restaurant ambiance which isn’t even that great. Slow service, waited for more than 30 minutes. All of my friends’ food was ok, I ordered a bagel which was over toasted. Waited long for the food as I sent it back and it was underwhelming, too much filling and not very pleasant to eat. Would not recommend.

Great food. Generous portions. Fantastic service provided by our waitress, Jasmine (knowledgeable about menu, well presented, warm and friendly). Would definitely eat here again.

We dined at the restaurant over the weekend, the service started off quite good. We were seated and wasn’t left too long before waitress came to take our drinks order…our food order was then taken and still no drinks had arrived. We asked where our drinks were twice and no one returned with them or to say that they wouldn’t be too long etc. the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, a max of 15-20 people in the restaurant and our drinks order wasn’t particularly complicated having ordered 1 beer, 1 soft drink, 1 bottled cider and 1 mocktail. Our starters then arrived..still no drinks for a good 10 minutes after they arrived. The taste of the food was faultless, only complaint we had about starters were that 1 of the plates had chips in round the edge. This plate should not have left the kitchen unless it was in a bin bag! We then had a bit of a wait for our mains, waitresses didn’t really seem interested in being there or even communicating with customers. Again, we couldn’t fault the mains. The portion sizes were just right, i ordered the venison burger which was easily one of the nicest burgers I’ve ever had, was very filling so shared my chips and onion rings with the rest of the table. The onion rings did come after the meals had been brought out so assume they had been forgotten to be put ‘crowning’ my burger. When the waitress came over for us to pay the bill, we had some vouchers to use along with paying the rest with cash, this was taken off me and the waitress disappeared without saying anything. The food was worth going for but the customer service is definitely lacking which really lets it down along with the waiting times (especially for the drinks when it was a hot day and all needed a drink).

The restaurant was great but what made it extra-special was Luke who listened to any requests re table adn accommodated them really well. Luke was very attentive, always there to assist, so well done Luke - you made our evening more special! The food we had was the ' Hunters Hoard' which is a sharer board for 2, which I would utterly recommend for all met lovers. Venison was super-tender, duck was smooth, pheasant was delicious and soft..etc, etc - excellent dining experience worth the money. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Having a couples day and happened to discover this restaurant. It seems to have an interesting menu and decor and never eaten at this restaurant before. As it was a Thursday afternoon not many people . Apart from one 8 table group. We sat down after 5 min ordered drinks and food , salad and steak and salad root vegetables with falafel. This is when things didn't go so well. We watched other people's food brought in who walked in 20 min after us. We waited over an hour until I asked the wait staff , how long 5 minutes, 15 minutes later we were serviced by the bar staff with apologies. Also the place was loud and layered on top of that bird noises even louder. Came out of the place with a headache. My husband enjoyed the steak and salad. Mine was nice but lacked moisture with the falafel and hummus. Needed a dressing. So hungry we ate, paid and left sharpish. All in all disappointed about the wait, loud bird noises with music and dry food. 2 main meals and 2 soft drinks set us back £41 . We won't be going back. A really shame

Ffion was such a great host. The food was great with good recommendations from the host. She got what we wanted and suggested the best thing for us.

On first arrival we were greeted straight away by the staff and seated. Then we sat for twenty minutes with nobody taking a drinks order or seeing if we wanted food. Once we ordered we waited about 40minutes for our food. The food was delicious and was presented beautifully. Nobody checked to see if the food was ok and we weren’t offered more drinks. We then waited 20 minutes for the plates to be cleared away! We then asked for the bill because we didn’t want to wait for the desserts! The restaurant was not very busy so service should have been amazing. The staff didn’t seem to care and after the poor service there was a 5% service charge. Even though the food was lovely I wouldn’t go back.

What a great restaurant. I love the decor. There has been no expense spared. The staff have always been so welcoming and friendly and the food has always been delicious. I highly recommend visiting for brunch, lunch or dinner. It’s a great concept and just what Birmingham needed.

Consistency is surely one of the key goals for restauranteurs? And that is all Restaurant at the Woods scored well on for us today in that everything was consistently bad from the slow service when we asked for our food to arrive promptly as we were short of time to the all round dreadful food. The coffee was undrinkably bittter, four of us each ordered different menu items and found the food universally poor. Half cooked eggs accompanied a smoked salmon that was so salty it was almost inedible, this served on a soggy bun drrenched in some form of sauce that did not taste well. The smashed avodao with another dish just tasted wrong as if it seemed to have been stored or had stood around for ages before it reached us. My son’s Hunter’s breakfast had bacon that just tasted wrong as did bacon that accompanied two other dishes. Eggs with the Hunter’s breakfast were doused in great quantities of black pepper and with it came baked beans that were tasteless. Very slow service though only about 10 people were in the restaurant made us very late for our appointment and I then had to go and ask to pay as no one came to the table. When asked how the food was I pointed out that we were not happy. The solution was to offer not to charge us the optional service charge that I was not planning to pay anyway. To cap it all the contactless credit card machines were not working properly so even that went wrong.

I visited this restaurant based on the great reviews just before the new year on the Saturday. I booked the restaurant as I was told I couldn't be guaranteed a table for a Saturday. The restaurant was empty, apart from two other couples. The food was of satisfactory quality, the chicken burger was overcooked and chewy. The dish my friend and I choose came with plain fries, but we got sweet potato fries. When I asked the waiter, he said they have no fries left so they substituted this. I said to the waiter, it would have been nice to have been advised of this, as I didn't particularly want SPF and he apologised. Overall, there wasn't a good vibe in the restaurant. The decor was nice and clean, although it was a bit cold and we were not by the door or window. My friend and I thought the menu dishes were overpriced. I would not be re-visiting the restaurant in a hurry, though I am sure other customers experience may have been different.

Superb food, piping hot and delicious; the portion size was very good as well. We had a range of meals and my all-day breakfast was superb. The service was attnetive without being fussy and the attention to detail on all the meals meant that all the family were extremely pleased with their lunch. Note however: I do wish that ALL restaurants would not serve backed-beans in a ceramic white ramikin! It is clear that these are microwaved beans and such things should be served together on a plate. They are difficult to extract without a spoon and take up unnecessary room on the plate. If you try to pick it up to empty the beans out you need a napkin which then gets coated with bean-sauce just creating one mess after another.

Really nice venue and staff were helpful and assertive Ordered an Earl Grey and Iced Vanilla Latte that were fine, just standard run of the mill items. Ordered a Birds Nest Bagel and Breakfast of Eden, the bagel was cold when it arrived however the breakfast had been sat under a food warmer for a while as the beans had a skin on the top of them and the mushrooms has dried up. I feel I'd be able to get the same quality of meal from Weatherspoons if not better for half the price.

I came from Leeds with high expectations. The experience was disappointing - There were 7 of us & we placed our group order. After waiting for 45 mins for our main meal, we had to ask how long the food would be. It arrived lukewarm at best. We raised this with the acting manager & were offered 10% off our meal or the food to be remade. We asked for the food to be remade. Whilst the cutlery changeover happened, the acting manager snatched the cutlery from my friends hand & grabbed the plate from in front of her, JUST missing her face. The food was made faster, tasted good BUT there was parts of the meal that were missing from the first time round. When we asked for the bill, we did say the food was nice but it hadn’t been made properly the first time round & was late. So for the inconvenience of everything, could anything be done. No we had been offered £2 off of our cold incomplete meal or to have it remade so in their eyes, it was all fine, despite the terrible service. Would NOT recommend.

I visited this place as part of a big party and on approach the restaurant looked really nice and welcoming.. I noticed there was wall paper falling off the wall but maybe that hadn't noticed. We picked from the Christmas meal 2 courses for £28 which i think was expensive considering the Christmas Dinner consisted of frozen yorkshire puddings and potatoes and over cooked tendersdem broccoli. Other people had the southern fried quail which i think is a big mistake deep frying such a small bird as it was dry and hardly any meat. Most of the food went back to the kitchen and people said they didn't enjoy it. The bar also ran out of wine glasses which I'm surprised about considering it wasn't overly business. The female waitresses that day all seemed really nice and hard working. All in all it was a very disappointing get together.

We visited here for a family members birthday. The exterior and design looks lovely. Staff were friendly. However I had a really poor experience and I wouldn't advise any coeliacs to eat here. All of my family members food arrived and I was still waiting for mine to come. I was then told that they couldn't make me the gluten free pancakes or waffles due to the packet stating they had gluten & wheat in. I was surprised to know that they were from a packet rather than freshly made and also why are they on the menu as gluten free, if they're not gluten free? I thought it was very unfair to be told this when my family had nearly eaten their brunch and I hadn't eaten anything at this point. The manager did apologise, offered a discount and to make me a different gf alternative but at this point I lost all trust in the kitchen. I feel that the restaurant tried to cater for different dietary requirements but still has a lot to learn about the difference between gluten free and coeliac disease. I didn't eat a meal so left feeling disappointed and hungry.

Average food and atmosphere vs prices you are paying. If seeking date night or treat night not the best place to be, however if after family meal venue imagine this is perfect. Sadly won’t be returning.

Beautiful restaurant and the Christmas decor was stunning! Came here with a large group of friends and we loved how magical the restaurant looked the ambiance was perfect.
