Restaurant at The Westleton Crown in Suffolk Coastal

We spent 4 nights here, bed and breakfast with optional dinner. The room was really comfortable, clean and well maintained. The food was excellent. Good choice on both the breakfast and dinner menus. The meals were very well presented and special mention for the soups! The staff were friendly and helpful. This is our fourth visit to this lovely part of Suffolk. Very restful stay.

Absolutely wonderful lunch experience enjoyed with family at The Westleton Crown. Superb locally-sourced food and beverages... wholesome, flavoursome and utterly delicious - compliments to the chef! First class, sincere, attentive and knowledgeable service from our hostess. Beautiful stylish, light-filled interior and decor. A place full of heart and soul. Will most definitely return to try some of the other menu options - spoilt for choice!

Lovely friendly helpful staff ( special mention to Vanessa who went out of her way to make sure we had all we needed). The food was delicious - and free canapés for guests started the evening off well. Very impressed on Saturday night with how the staff managed a very busy restaurant plus a wedding ! No one was left waiting and all customers were dealt with in a friendly relaxed manner ( swans gliding but paddling furiously below the surface sprang to mind )! Our one negative experience was that the room , although comfortable , was on the ground floor and overlooked the Main Street so we had to have our curtains drawn all the time. This made it feel dark and a bit claustrophobic. I enjoy sitting reading and relaxing in a room and didn’t feel happy to do this. Also the guests above us the first night kept walking about during the night which was very noisy and kept us awake. If we come back we will definitely ask for an upper room / not directly onto the street.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Westleton Crown. Apart from the guy on reception whose directions to our room were confusing when you haven't been before. Luckily a lovely female member of staff was on hand to help. A very steep staircase and think someone should have offered to take our case up. Room was very nice but very dark. Food was good although my dish of pork was very salty. Waitressess and bar lady were all very lovely. I would say the outside of pub needs tidying up.

This spot has great customer service! Really friendly and helpful. We came for an overnight stay on the bank holiday. We booked through a third party and they had no evidence of our booking on the system. They helped us and sorted us out for the night. Really kind and considerate given this was not their error!

We only stayed for one night but enjoyed excellent service in a delightful atmosphere. First rate dinner and breakfast. Our dog enjoyed it too!

We recently got married and had our wedding breakfast there.. it was a small and intimate wedding and we had all our family with us. The parlour room is sweet, the events manager was amazing and very helpful. The food was fantastic and the service was very organised and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. They catered to all the children and they have lovely gardens to sit when we finished our meal. Definitely recommended.

We stayed and dined at the Westleton Crown. The service and welcome from Charlie (Assistant Manager) and the whole team was incredibly welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The service was efficient and the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. The team catered incredibly for all of the guests in the full restaurant. It felt just how a chestnut pub should, we can’t wait to visit again.

My husband booked a table as a surprise for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. He mentioned that we would like to have a quiet place in the restaurant, which the staff believed that seating us next to a table of around 8 people would be acceptable. We asked to be seated in a less noisy space, and was told where there were tables available, we chose the best out of a choice of two, the mismatched wooden chairs were extremely uncomfortable, so our visit did not get off to a great start. We were then given a 'bottle of tap water' (wasn't asked if we wanted that or bottled water) and basically left. It was very hot, but only two of the windows in the room were slightly open. It was also incredibly noisy (and it was only a Thursday), so much so that if we had wanted to whisper sweet nothings, it being our anniversary, neither of us would have heard. Also we understood that the Westleton Crown was 'dog-friendly', but didn't realise that so many dogs had decided to come out with their owners that evening - we counted 6 that were in our vicinity, one even had its blanket brought with it! So, on to the food, eventually a member of staff came over to our table and asked what we wanted to drink, we said we would order food too, as it had been a bit of a wait, she then took our order and went, at this point we both felt the menu was uninspiring, not what we were expecting from a nice country establishment. We settled for overpriced Fried haddock & chips & a Pork chop with potatoes, then we waited again and eventually our food arrived. I have had better fish & chips from my local chippie (and at half the price), it was also just warm, the chips were quite chunky, but pale & limp and not at all hot. The pork chop, after my husband cut off all the fat, was small, with a handful of small new potatoes and something on the side (which upon tasting was found to be overdone apple slices - three to be precise). We were asked if it was ok - and were quickly moved on to the dessert menu, which we asked to see. We eventually got it and was amazed at the prices - around £8 for most of the very simple desserts. We declined and asked for the bill - that was the only thing that came quickly, the machine took our money and she left. There was not really anyone to speak to, so we left. Upon checking our bill when we returned home (we live quite near to the WC), we noticed a service charge, which was not explained to us! What a disastrous mediocre anniversary dinner that was, but never again!

A taste sensation with incredible service from start to finish The Westleton Crown provided sincere hospitality, amazing food and the kindest service towards my extended Ukrainian family. We had come to celebrate a birthday and try the new menu that is Michelin star quality, oozing fresh seasonal produce and a presentation next to none. The children delighted by the chicken burger and mum who could not decide so opted for both the asparagus and mackerel starters as a main. It is times like these you want to bow down in honour to the skills of the chefs who create magical dishes, from the heart. It was more than value for money it was a memory making meal. Thank you everyone for making it a rather special event and all guests so comfortable. The Westleton Crown snuggles in a silent Suffolk village and quite honestly, from my experience, is a destination like a hidden Jewell, not to be missed. I’d encourage any traveller to book and savour for yourself the gem of a venue where service, beverage, wine and food is next to none. You won’t be disappointed.

First stay at the Westleton Crown and very impressed with this inn ! Check in was really easy and fast and shown to our room (Dartford Warbler), lovely clean and spacious room and set at the front of the inn. Comfortable room and perfect for our stay with our four legged friend. Prior to arrival, the staff at the Crown, reached out to us and booked us a dinner reservation each night. Food was of excellent quality and the prices were good. Breakfast was included and again was lovely. Unfortunately my friend became ill and we had to check out a day earlier than expected, but we will be returning.

Stayed for three nights in April arrived and found message in the room inviting us to canapes at 5.30, very welcome, tasty and it brought us into the hotel sitting area Later we stayed for dinner : the food was better than I expected and and there is an extensive wine list The staff were all friendly and welcoming We took our dog who sat under the table at dinner while we ate, I noticed several other canines - all well behaved and unobtrusive The rooms were clean and the bed happily had soft pillows We left with all good feelings- which reflects our stay Well done

We visited as hotel guests, not just the restaurant (with our 2 dogs). We stayed for 4 nights and found it a most hospitable venue. Breakfast was very good even sausages for our dogs. Although the dining menu we found a bit limited. Dogs are allowed everywhere, which is great for doggie people. There are fields at the back of the hotel to run your dog first thing in the morning. Set in a picuresque village with walks from the hotel.

Stayed at the Westleton Crown for the Easter break with our dog. He was very pleased to find some treats and a comfy bed upon arrival, and even more delighted to be offered a breakfast sausage both mornings. On our part, we had a lovely stay and the staff were super friendly, helpful and hard working (our breakfast server was also our dinner server!) Visited the sister pub The Ship at Dunwich for a pint and a game of cards, but would advise to reserve in advance if you want to have a bite inside. Would recommend, thanks very much for a lovely stay.

We were there on Easter Sunday. The place was buzzing but we still had excellent friendly service and delicious food in this great pub. Highly recommended.

Sadly, this once great hotel restaurant has been turned into and over run by dogs, poorly trained staff, and an extremely poor quality of food The Sunday roast was poor, carrots were not cleaned, had a mouthful of grit, the cabbage was overcooked, parsnips soggy, roast potatoes weren't crispy and powdery on the inside. As others have stated, 30% of the two thin slices of beef were fat. Gravy wasn't very nice and the horseradish poor and lacking in taste. Puddings were OK. If you read through the reviews, repeatedly, people say the same things. But sadly, the current management are not interested. Preferring to call this once lovely coaching Inn, a pub and happy to encourage way too many dogs, at least8 dogs in the conservatory restaurant. Barking m, wiping their face on the table, sitting at the table. Our main issue was the poor quality verses over priced meals.

Lovely place all staff welcoming, friendly helpful acknowledged immediately at check in and at the bar, this is always a plus for me. Room was lovely, we stayed one night dinner on us offer, food was great quality and breakfast was so nice. Very relaxing definitely go back well done

Lovely 2 night break with the dogs who were made most welcome by staff. The outstanding feature is the attitude of staff here. They are so willing to ensure you have a good time. We had a downstairs room facing the street which proved a bit noisy due to creaky upstairs floorboards, so if you are a light sleeper take earplugs or ask for an upstairs room. The room was pretty and the beds really comfortable.Everything worked with the exception of an extractor fan which would not time out: staff quickly isolated it and solved the problem. Restaurant food is great and clearly even on a Monday night the place was busy. Would be very happy to stay again.

Enjoyable two-night stay. Couldn't fault the food. Meat, pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan options were available. Breakfast choice was comprehensive also. Always good to see a few cask ales being served, and what I sampled didn't disappoint. There was a good choice of wines and spirits, too. Accommodation was lovely and warm and fires were lit in the bars. restaurant itself was light and roomy, and this too was warm. Staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We had an overnight stay, room very comfortable with everything needed. We booked the evening meal. The medium rare roast beef was the best I have eaten in a long time. Breakfast was excellent with a great avocado sourdough toast option.

Dinner was ok but at 7:30 beef was not available. Breakfast was ok but no fruit mix apart from whole apples and oranges. The room was 2 levels up from the basic room and was depressing and dark. The heating didn’t work and the bathroom had rusty bathroom fittings. Dogs used to be allowed in the bar but not the restaurant. Now they are everywhere. If you’re not a dog lover avoid this hotel

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, the food was incredible and we had breakfast and dinner here both days we stayed! The room was beautiful and perfect to bring your pooch too. Can’t wait to stay again soon

A wonderful meal, food always excellent, served in what should be a lovely room however tonight all my enjoyment was spoiled by having to share said room with no less than 5 dogs. One barked repeated another had its paws on the table. We were hemmed in by dogs on either side of us and there was a distinct doggy pong. Not everyone who frequents your establishment wants to share their meal and evening with peoples pets. You may be a dog friendly hotel but when did it become socially acceptable to have dogs at the table! I love the Crown have been coming here for near 35 years but will be thinking twice about it. There are two rooms to the restaurant, could one be dog free, preferably the lovely conservatory although I suppose it’s useful if one of your four legged friend needs to relieve themselves mid course.

Very disappointed with this place. The food was OK but not up to standard for the price and the dining area was very crowded indeed with not much space between the tables. This meant it was noisy and wherever you looked you seemed to meet eyes with someone at one adjacent table or the other. There was a huge number of dogs in the dining area - up to 3 under some tables and some large dogs not fitting under the table so in the gangway. One dog barked ALL the time. The owner took it out but then quickly returned and so did the noise. Dogs at tables outside are fine but not multiple dogs at tables inside an eating place when there are tables outside. Altogether not the pleasant, peaceful evening we expected from a Suffolk village pub.

Asked for a medium-sized glass of Rose and when the bill came it was £9.60! And it was. They had supplied some sort of apparently premium wine. Charged for a pint when ordered a half. (of a different beer) . Which was sorted. It is a bore when you have to pick over and quibble about the bill, and this overshadowed what otherwise would have been a fun evening.

Hadn't booked but the very helpful staff soon found us a table. Very busy to start with (7.45pm) but steadily emptied enough to be able to chat more easily. Great food selection and didn't have to wait too long. Really delicious when it came. 1 of my friends has a Blue Light card which she'd hoped to use to offset the bill. Unfortunately this hasn't happened since COVID, but we were let off the service charge. A really nice gesture. Pity we're not local!

There was a very nice atmosphere in the restaurant starting with the young lady, Lils, who looked after us throughout the evening. Initially I was unhappy with the wooden rustic chairs, most uncomfortable to sit upon, Lils immediately suggested she get cushions which were most comfortable and appreciated. The Starter, Main and Desert were truly excellent! Together with the glass of Italian Rose wine made for a most enjoyable evening out.

We have been to the Westleton crown a few times ,This stay was again a wonderful experience . Lovely friendly staff on arrival. Easy to park in car park. Impressive selection of rooms attached above the pub or arranged at the back. Booked dinner fairly late but still got in on a Friday night. Great singing trio as unexpected entertainment. We ate the squid, ham hock and fish and chips. Great food. Kitchen got a little behind but caught up. Serving staff were very quick to update you. Our ‘Good King’ room was a great size and very well appointed. Facilities were great. Super clean too. Breakfast was fantastic. Great locally sourced cooked breakfast and a high quality wide variety of choices on the continental buffet. Brilliant location for Dunwich, Southwold, Aldeburgh, RSPB Minsmere and much more. We will definately book again.

Every time we go to the Crown the team are so friendly and customer focused. They always try different things, this time was a Cinema and a barbacue.
