Had a family lunch greeted by Mrs Pascoe. We had the 3 course Sunday lunch menu, food was exquisite, all courses were lovely in flavours, colourful, nice portion sizes, . The roast was perfect I had the chicken tender and juicy, lots of vibrant vegetables. I had my favourite dessert sticky toffee pudding caramel sauce with clotted cream I was not disappointed! Service was superb check on us to make sure everything was ok, didn’t have to wait long for each course. Overall 10/10! 😁

After eating & staying here many times in the past, we were very disappointed with the service we recently received. We were asked for our starter and mains order without being shown a wine list - we had to ask for it. We waited over an hour for our main course. Whilst waiting we chatted and laughed and made the most of the time. A member of staff approached us and said we looked bored. Far from it, despite the wait for our mains but felt this was very rude of him to make such a silly comment. He made no effort to ask why we might be bored as he thought we were. There was a function taking place in the adjoining room, the Venetian Suite and it seemed all attention was given to that room and its guests. A gentleman on a table nearby commented to the waiter that he had been given the wrong sauce with his meal, it wasn’t as per the menu. Have to say the food was superb, as ever and this experience will not deter us from revisiting for now, but if we receive this lack of service again we will definitely think twice about returning. Hoping standards slipped just for that evening only.

Arranged with staff night before over their chat to arrive at 5.30, this was cleared apparently by management. On arrival told they didn't know, and were having a handover meeting . Asked to wait and then they didn't call us in. Went back when saw others being seated. Beautiful setting. Overpriced starter which took an age to come. Chicken Madras as Main meal arrived at 6.50pm, rice and Naan very tasty but the madras was sweet, too tomatoey and had no depth. This was also a birthday meal, that had to be rushed and left no time for dessert. We were not the only table having difficulty, wrong drink and food order to the table beside us. I love the Penventon Hotel, over the years have visited several times and have been happy but last night was a shambles. If you are going to do a pre theatre dinner meal you need to allow the customer time to eat. I had given you time to do this. Please improve your standards as last night really let you down.

I stayed at The Penventon with a friend for my birthday and it was nothing less than perfect! When walking into my room they had decorated it with balloons and an elephant made out of bath towels, such a sweet touch. I was then later greeted with prosecco at my door!! We also had dinner in the restaurant and the atmosphere was so calm and welcoming. I had the main chicken dish and it was divine. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating, will definitely be staying again.

Great service, very good food and exceptional value for money. The roast potatoes could have been better and, as with many restaurants, there was not enough toast with the potted mackerel starter. These are relatively minor when the meal is taken as a whole. You need a good appetite because the portions are on the large side. Good atmosphere. I would recommend as a Sunday lunch venue.

Lovely restaurant. We had 2 great evening meals whilst we were staying at the hotel, all of which were delicious and generous sized portions. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Not much of an atmosphere but that was simply due to not many diners in the restaurant when we were there. We will return when we visit Cornwall again.

Wow what a wonderful afternoon with the girls. We booked the festive afternoon tea as a treat for our mums & the food, drinks & presentation were fabulous. Out came fresh Turkey & salmon sandwiches, huge homemade scones with the famous Mrs P’s Jam, Baileys mini cheesecakes & lots of other delicious treat’s. There was even a veggie option that looked just as good. Each of us were treated to a mulled wine which was included in the offer. The atmosphere was festive & the staff were fun & friendly. This is by far one of the best afternoon teas I’ve had, great value & everything is fresh & lots of choice…highly recommend booking one of these, you will not be disappointed!

The best Seafood special I have ever had. I stay here regularly and love the fact there is a daily seafood special which is always creative and a great combinations of flavours and fresh fish. This week was a WOW, I absolutely love crayfish tails and never realised how amazing they could taste. Sean the chef prepared me (and everyone else who was lucky enough to order them) the most amazing dish, I’ve never had such well prepared crayfish before. If I had to rate them out of 10 I would go a strong 12. Yes this sounds a both gushing and over the top .. But it’s not this dish was truly that good. So much so I asked if they could keep some back for the next night, which I am sat waiting for. Highly recommended this hotel restaurant if you are in the area.

It has been a number of years since we last ate at the Penventon. It had got a bit tired. We went this evening after swimming and, although things looked the same, the menu was excellent and the service attentive. We both has the gnocchi in Jerusalem artichoke veloute. This was very good. The house salad was generous and we struggled to finish the nibbles we had in place of a starter. The wine list looked good. We will be back. It was quiet on a Monday evening but it is always advisable to book.

We had booked ahead and informed the restaurant team prior to arrival it was for a birthday. It was our Grandma's 93rd Birthday! We had looked at other restaurants and hotels but had decided on the Penventon's afternoon tea. I had travelled for our afternoon tea. On arrival I had to leave my table to request our coats were hung. At the start we ordered water for the table. That didn't arrive with the other drinks. That arrived just after we had finished our meal. We were never asked if our food was okay. On three occasions I had to leave the table and restaurant and go to the bar to request service. I did ask the woman at the bar if it was normal to not have waiting staff? I have the upmost respect for hospitality and covid has had a huge impact on the hospitality trade. However there were only three tables dining including ours. At the end we decided we would take our remaining cakes and scones. We were given two paper bags as no boxes were available. The scones were wrapped in tinfoil. The server was pleasant. However he appeared to be on his own. We didn't find the service to be attentive or of the standard you would expect within a four star hotel. After leaving all members of the party decided we wouldn't return. We are going to book afternoon tea at another restaurant and hopefully give our Grandma a better experience. It has the potential to offer diners a wonderful experience. The hotel itself looked clean and the decor was pleasant.

Went for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Ordered the beetroot and feta salad as meal.. service is extremely slow and we ended up waiting 45 mins for service of food and there was only three other tables occupied in dining room. When it arrived, it was a bowl of salad leaves with four ting squares of tasteless feta cheese and no beetroot. I questioned a member of staff who took my bowl back to kitchen, others at table had almost finished their lunch when my bowl came back with a few added chunks of yellow beetroot chucked on top…. This beetroot had no taste…. How can these establishments warrant the price they are charging for this quality of food. Then I ordered coffee and cake after as feeling still hungry. A catering dry slice of walnut and coffee cake was given over to me.. Terrible.. Come on Penventon, what’s going on..

Started with the pilli pilli prawns - tasty but caught the back of your throat then I had catch of the day which was nice but my husband ordered from the grill. When it arrived it was the incorrect order so we told the staff and then they said that what he had ordered was not available so they selected another item for him - without consulting him! This was very disappointing. Also we order coke and lemonade - both quite flat. All in all - wouldn't go back. Very very poor and below average experience.

We stayed at the hotel recently and were thoroughly impressed with all of the food we ate in the restaurant. The decor is in a Renaissance style (I think!) and we found everyone to be very welcoming. We enjoyed a really good evening meal here... trio of melon for me to begin with and hubby had the chicken liver pate. Both delicious and excellent presentation, especially the melon starter (see pics). For main course we went for the pork belly and chicken in a creamy sauce. The food arrived piping hot, beautifully presented, and most importantly- it was delicious! Cheese was calling us for dessert so we opted for 5 to share between us and whilst it’s quite a basic selection, if you love cheese like us, you’ll be happy! Great to see some local Cornish cheeses on offer too which is definitely what you want to see when visiting the area. Yummy chutney with the cheese too that’s worth a special mention. Service was fantastic from our waiter David who was friendly, personable and efficient. Prices were not too bad either - for the 2 of us including wine it cost around £80 but it is quite a special meal so we didn’t mind the cost at all.One small thing to mention would be that it would have been nice to have a few more fish options on the menu, especially some shellfish seeing as it’s abundant in Cornwall. Breakfast was excellent as a guest in the hotel with everything you’d expect to see on offer, plus a couple of other fantastic options such as Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royal and kippers! It’s served to your table as is toast and coffee/tea, but you can help yourself to juices, cereals, fruit etc. Definitely one of the better breakfasts we’ve experienced in similar priced hotels. Overall, very impressed and we would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone.

We went for the Christmas package because they claimed to be dog friendly. And they did not disappoint!! The hotel is lovely, fantastic bar and lounge area. Great little spa with pool, sauna and Jacuzzi and little gym. Rooms are well appointed and spotlessly clean. We had a garden room with patio door direct to the gardens. Where they truly excelled was the welcome from every single member of staff towards us and our Yorkshire Terrier. The food was fantastic and we had the choice of leaving the dog in the room and eating in the lovely main restaurant or dining with other dog owners in the various nooks and crannies which we did the latter. The whole experience was amazing and really made Christmas for us. They even locked my mountain bike up safely for me in the staff room. Brilliant.

Let me just start by saying that last Christmas Day (2018) we ate at the Penventon and couldn't fault the food, service, or attentiveness of staff. It was so good that we decided to go back this year - not on Christmas Day itself, but just over a week before. What a disappointment! Our friends booked the table and were told that we had to be there for 6.30pm - we were early and had dink in the bar before hand. First snag - a crowded bar and only one bartender - and a 20 minute wait to be served.By 7.15 we hadn't been called in to dine so made our on way to the restaurant were shown to our table and waited another 10 minutes for any contact from staff.Ellie our main server did her best throughout the evening but it was soon clear that there just weren't enough staff working. We soon worked out that in addition to the 60+ people in the restaurant there was also a large wedding in another part of the hotel and a small business dinner an adjoing room. The kitchen were clearly under pressure and the staff were too - three courses took over 3 hours to serve. Little point in detailing the food but suffice it to say there weren't enough vegetables supplied for a table of 4 and we had to ask for extra but the brussel sprouts (yes I know they're not ebveryine's favourite) were like bullets and tasted unusual. The Christmas pudding dessert does deserve a special mention - mainly because it did not resemble Christmas pudding but was more like a sticky toffee sponge and COMPLETELY DEVOID of fruit and a consistency of stretchy elastic.Echoing the review of 'Annett O', staff repeatedly asked if everything was ok - and were reportedly told it wasn't. To be fair to Ellie and the restaurant manager (sorry - I missed her name), they did their best to resolve the issues we raised by taking the dessert costs from the bill and supplying a drinks voucher for our group but the damage was done by that point. It may be that on a quieter night the experience would be different but I'm not in any great hurry to try again. Maybe next year - but don't hold your breath!

Since Paola and David Pascoe have handed over the hotel to others we regret that it has not improved.. The menu choice has been reduced and good quality dishes eliminated and the general standards have slipped to a level where we are now looking for alternatives- however , as we only come once a year it may be that things will improve as time goes on - we will await other opinions before making a choice.

We have been coming here for many years and feel quite sad that it is, in our opinion, losing it’s uniqueness. We always enjoyed the old fashioned service and the food never a disappointment but our recent visit was not as good as it used to be and we have seen a change developing in our last few visits. The staff serving our table were as usual very good but sadly the food and portions were not as they used to be. We all opted for the Festive Menu and were disappointed. Some of us had well cooked turkey and some had it pink inside and the menu actually says “Roast Turkey and Pigs (plural) in blankets we each had one tiny pig in blanket! The vegetables were seriously lacking on the plate and the carrot and swede minutely chopped into squares did not look very presentable and were tasteless, we asked for more roast potatoes and more pigs in blankets, they were ok with the potatoes but said there were no more pigs in blankets left! For desserts some of us had cheese and crackers but some found the chutney to have a curry tasting tang which wasn’t to their taste so asked for a different chutney but was advised they didn’t have any alternative. We also ordered some Port to accompany the cheese which took forever to arrive by which time the cheese was almost gone, we did chase the port up but it still took far too long. We then moved to the lounge area and ordered more Port which again took forever as they had run out and had to visit the cellar. When the bottle was eventually brought up we were advised we couldn’t have that Port and they couldn’t sell it to us, no explanation as to why then we were asked if we were the customers who had had the port at the table and then they agreed to let us have it with no explanation as to why this made a difference!! The Festive Menu 3 courses was £21.50 per person and don’t feel that this was value for money basing it on many previous Christmas meals here before and basing it on other places where you get a better serving of Roast Turkey with a fair portion of vegetables. When I booked the table I was advised I was lucky as I had got the last table and yet there were MANY empty tables, our table was set for five and we had booked for six with a table for two very close to us unoccupied. Rather than all squeeze on our table we asked for the next table to be put beside our table so we had more room but we were advised that someone would be using it – they didn’t in all the time we were there plus we seriously could have been allocated a better table as many were unoccupied all the time we were there.

Visited the Penventon restaurant with friends for a pre Christmas get together. We all decided to opt for the set festive menu (after all it is December!), therefore this review is based on this and not the a la carte menu. There was a choice of starters including soup, prawn cocktail, pate and salmon. The prawn cocktail was fine although I’ve had better. The mains consisted of turkey, fish and a vegetarian option. I had turkey and it was terrible. The turkey consisted of a breast wrapped around stuffing with bacon over the top. Mine wasn’t cooked properly, the bacon was virtually raw, the stuffing still gooey and the turkey was really pink in the middle so I decided against eating it. There was hardly any vegetables, only a couple of tiny roast potatoes, tiny cubes of carrot and a few stems of broccoli together with one cocktail pig in blanket. We requested more roast potatoes which we did get and the gravy was slopping on the plate like coloured water. I’m only pleased that we decided against coming here for our Christmas dinner.

Continuing our visits to the top reviewed restaurants in the Redruth area we decided on a visit to one of the higher end type establishments and this one did not disappoint. It was everything you would expect food and service wise. Greeted at the bar we were offered drinks while the barman checked to see if our table was ready. As soon as we were seated one of the very attentive waitresses approached with menus and gave us a rundown of the days specials. We both decided on the ribeye steak with bearnaise sauce and were offered bread and balsamic with olive oil while we waited for the steaks to be cooked. When they arrived the steaks were cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauce delicious. We finished off with a couple of Irish coffees that were poured at the table by the barman which rounded off a very enjoyable meal. The restaurants décor was very attractive and we were particularly struck by the carnival masks on the wall by our table. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone wishing to dine in a proper restaurant environment instead of going for a pub type meal.

We were resident at the hotel for four nights. Partly because Redruth is such an unprepossessing place to be in at any hour of the day let alone the evening and partly because the first meals we had here impressed we dined here most evenings and were fortunate to be able to sample a number of different menus ranging from breakfast, the all day menu at dinner, the dinner a la carte and the Sunday lunch either in the main restaurant or a slightly elevated room behind the main bar. Some items are common to more than one menu. A changing fish du jour appears on both the all day and a la carte. A dish du jour is on the a la carte only. All the meals we sampled were accomplished. In the main restaurant, a large elegant Georgian room containing a variety of antique furniture, a miscellany of paintings and a collection of colourful Venetian masks we had one evening meal and a Sunday lunch. Both mains on the a la carte impressed: a sea bass fillet with new potatoes fennel and samphire ordered by my wife; the dish du jour I had which turned out to be duck leg with cubed miniature potatoes and piquant diced greenery. For Sunday lunch between us we sampled all the roasts: sirloin, pork and a small-sized chicken for my daughter. Accompanied by potatoes and other vegetables on the plates known colloquially as ‘all the trimmings’ the portions were already generous without an additional sharing plate of vegetables. A crumble dessert with fresh fruit was a surprisingly light concoction. In the room behind the bar we were lucky to grab one of only two tables as all those in the main restaurant and lounge bar were full. From the all day menu I enjoyed a generous portion of battered fish and chips which would not have been in any way out of place in a Rick Stein restaurant; the second day a 6oz ribeye and chips which was also excellent although they forgot the bearnaise sauce. My wife had the fish du jour which was Lemon sole with new potatoes, samphire and salad. Small-ish portions of fish and chips and a pasta dish were made available to my daughter. Perhaps our only regret was we had not taken up the dinner B & B offer which would have afforded us considerable savings on restaurant meals. Nor did we get to take advantage of a £39 for two early supper menu for two including a bottle of wine. But there is surely a next time.

We had not been to the Penventon for some years and decided to return for my husband's birthday. We booked a table in the Restaurant and we really liked the décor which was very grand. We were offered a drink at the Bar which was then taken by the Head Waiter to our table. Our whole meal was excellent, one of the best we have eaten for a long time. The service was impeccable, all the staff were polite and friendly and we really felt we had been somewhere special. If you feel like a treat, then this is the place where you can get dressed up and enjoy a first class meal, in an very elegant setting. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the hotel, and we were against to see such an old tired hotel! Inadequately rated 4 stars! But the restaurant was amazing! We had breakfast everyday. They catered to gluten free, dairy free and vegan requirement very well. The staff was very very helpful and friendly. The food quality and range was average, but the experience of being catered to with min effort made it worth it!

My sister took me to lunch at this restaurant in the Penventon Park Hotel. It is a plushly decorated restaurant with an ambience of old world charm. Large comfortable armchairs, ironed table cloth, a grand piano, and wall decors give it class and is quite unexpected in Cornwall. I had prawns as starter and then beer battered fish. Both were nicely done and tasty. There is a small shop just outside the restaurant where one might be able to pick up some souvenirs and handicraft stuff. I would not mind a revisit in the future if I come back to this part of England.

Lovely Dinning room, lots of parking. Plenty of friendly staff but lacking training, eg conversations interrupted needlessly to clear a plate. Very slow kitchen despite not half full restaurant.

Warm champagne, poor service (but wait staff were good and apologetic), food quality below par...given its supposed reputation and high prices, what an utter disappointment!

Took my niece for a farewell diner on Saturday night. Couldn’t make the booked time but was able to rearrange. We started with cocktails in the bar and were served by really friendly staff who were just lovely. The food was wonderful and the service just as good and we both really enjoyed the whole experience and the lady playing the piano is always a nice touch! Marvellous.

good food, well presented and good portion sizes. As a coeliac I need a GF diet, staff took this in their stride and the choices on the menu meant that it did not feel restricted. Excellent service too.

Was here for an Easter Sunday birthday lunch. The food was very average, roast potatoes were extremely over cooked almost black and hard and should never have seen the light of day for a customer! Yorkshire puddings looked nice but were hard and crispy throughout probably from keeping hot for a long period. Expected much better as have had many a roast lunch of a much higher standard at local pubs.

We all think the roast is lovely...sometimes the service is slow as times..usually we go about 3pm on a sun and I think the waitress may be feeling a bit wary after the lunch rush as I expect they are more on the ball earlier in the day. I have eaten normal meals here but much prefer the roast as they are very tasty. The desserts are lovely too.

My partner and I visited here for lunch last week. We were able to take advantage of the £29 deal which provided two courses each with wine which is an extremely good offer. Despite their only being two tables occupied we were seated right next to a large table, presumed there were other bookings which would fill the other tables but during the time we spent here no one else arrived. To start we ordered one mackerel and one soup, presentation and the quality of the food was very good however the butter provided for the bread was so firm it was impossible to spread. We both chose fish for mains which was perfectly cooked portion sizes were very generous we look forward to visiting again soon.

We had the 2 dine evening meal option and there was a good choice from a selected menu. The food was cooked beautifully and presented very well. The setting was also very nice with a piano player and attentive staff. Good selection of wines and the house wine that came with the deal was surprisingly good ! There was an option to add a desert onto the 2 courses (if you still have room!) for £5.50 I think and there was also a good selection to choose from. Ask about the dish of the day- I had steak which was cooked perfectly to my liking !

The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x

The service is absolutely flawless, all the staff are exceptional and extremely welcoming, especially the manager. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a perfect meal out.

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
