Been coming here for many years, it is an absolute joy every time we come for a meal. Today me and my mother came for afternoon tea and everything was delicious and delectable, as it always is. The service is absolutely flawless, all the staff are exceptional and extremely welcoming, especially the manager. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a perfect meal out.

Opted for lamb. (Cannot remember the dish name) Very tough and I was unable to chew it. I did complain but was told, “well you ate most of it”. Waiter was rather rude to me. In fact I ate the vegetables but not the lamb as I was hungry. Did they offer a refund? No. Would I have dinner there again ? No. Shame as the hotel is well worth the stay but I would not have dinner there again.

We returned to the Harbour Hotel for our last night's meal before we left Padstow. It has been great on previous visits, however, this time we were disappointed. The waiter spilt our drink on the table and walked away, we had to ask another member of staff to wipe the table. The starters were lovely, although the prawn cocktail was served in a bowl which made eating the food difficult. We had a long wait for our mains. The monkfish dish was very bland and the side order of potatoes did not arrive and we had to ask for them to be removed from our bill. Our dessert was served in a narrow glass and the spoon was too big to get to the bottom. We were told it was the launch day of The Jetty ad there would be teething problems. Sorry but that's no excuse for poor service. They then have the audacity to add a 12.5% service charge.

I was not sure what this hotel restaurant would be like! Was it to be a Fawlty Towers or good! We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was light and airy and the staff all very pleasant. The mackerel starter was tasty and beautifully presented. We both had sirloin of beef for the main which was beautifully rare, tasty gravy, and a good selection of veg. Grouches; one of those wretched gigantic rubber yorkshire puds which was thoroughly unpleasant and the roast potatoes were only just on the acceptable side but certainly were not crispy! I was disappointed that the fat had been cut off the beef, in my opinion its the tastiest bit however I suppose there are many who do not eat the fat my companion being one of them! Overall the meal was very good though I was utterly bemused that I was the only diner who was able to have horseradish sauce on the day as being the first to be served I got the last dish of it and apparently they had no more! Seems poor planning when the main roast you are serving is beef!

Decided on a visit to the hotel for afternoon tea for my partners birthday. On arrival we were quickly welcomed by reception and told where to go to get to the restaurant. In the restaurant we were quickly shown to our table with nice views of the padstow harbour. We ordered afternoon tea for two and a couple of children’s meals. My partner is gluten free and I’d ensured they knew when I booked. At reception the lady had confirmed this on arrival. So far so good!!! On ordering the waitress informed us the kitchen were not told about the gluten free requirement and it would be a half hour wait to give them time to rustle something up!! Kids meals were lovely, maybe a little over priced, afternoon teas were delicious. Only complaint on food was the gluten free sandwiches, they came out toasted apparently due to gluten free bread being notoriously quick to go stale. I’d suggest due to the mistake in informing the kitchen of our requirements they either only had stale bread or maybe it was frozen hence why they needed to toast it!! The only other complaint was we were initially over charged as two teas were added. Had I not checked the bill before paying we would have overpaid. All in all the hotel interior is lovely, service was good and food delicious. Only issues are the small things that I mentioned which takes the gloss off the visit.

We recently spent a fortnight in Padstow in an apartment literally a minute away from the Harbour hotel. We booked in advance for dinner on our first night for the 2 of us and a table for 4 for when my son and his partner visted later in the week.On first night meal was very good. I had Chicken and Prawns and my husband had the Cod dish - both were very tasty. Service was good and the Covid precautions also good in the restaurant ( I thought it was a bit crowded in the bar area so we didnt use this.) My only complaint would be that when spending £120 on a meal for 2 I don't really want to be turfed out after an hour and a half, but in fairness I did know that when I booked and the manager was apologetic. The meal for 4 was also good and as we came at a later time( 7.45 instead of 7) we were not hurried. Incidentally we were alloted 2 hours for that meal,so I guess that the more there are of you the longer you get!At the last minute we decided to book table for the 2 of us on our last night - we could only get 9pm. This was an expensive mistake. Service was still good but the food was terrible. My Onion and Cider soup, which I had so enjoyed on my previous visit, was so tart from to much cider it was irritating my throat and my husband's mussles were not hot. My main of fish and chips was inexplicably served on a tiny plate with the fish in batter sitting on top of the chips. This made it difficult to eat and the chips became mushy from to much fat soaking into them from the fish. My poor husband's Seafood linguine was almost inedible and he left most of it. My son's partner had the same dish on our previous visit which she enjoyed - the meal my husband was served beared no resemblance to this in terms of appearance or content. We decided to skip pudding and just pay the £90 bill ( we had a bottle of wine as well). We didn't complain as it isn't our way, we just vote with our feet!I was sad it ended this way but I think the moral is avoid late service at all costs - it was nearly 10 pm by the time we got our mains and I expect the poor chef had had enough!I like the hotel though and we did have 2 good experiences so I would recommend with caution.

I appreciate things have changed now when dining out but that doesn’t mean poor service can be excused. We arrived early so expected a wait so had a drink. 15 mins after our table was booked we were asked did we want another drink , not your table is ready as we expected. 40 mins after our table was booked we had to ask and circa 5 mins after were seated. We actually got our food an hour after we had reserved our table. No apology for the delay nor explanation and then a discretionary service charge added to our bill - what service? The manager overseeing the restaurant did seem to be a little stressed but it was full. Good customer service starts with keeping your guests updated. The setting is lovely and the food was good, although whilst I know the cutlery is in a sealed packet trying to decant curry, with no spoon, onto the plate when the rice bowl and curry bowl were piping hot was difficult and we didn’t see anyone to ask for one as they were clearly overwhelmed by the number of people they were serving.

A fab meal and service too in such a nice setting. We both had the seafood linguine which was nice, my only recommendation would be that the sauce was thicker and more tomato based because it was slightly on the thin side - but perhaps that’s just my taste. Book ahead. Nice place with a New England feel inside and a touch of class too. Linen napkins and nice tableware. Really accommodating service. We had lunch and dinner. Parking is available. Great harbour views overlooking gardens. Dining room was busy so we were offered seating in the adjoining room, window table, airy too. Don’t be disappointed if you’re offered this room we preferred it. Nice menu with some lovely choices, the chicken prawn bisque was the star. My fillet was disappointing and a bit too chewy and tough. The Cod crab fillet was excellent as were the truffle fries. Try the Cheese soufflé to start. Desserts could have been better and strangely served in large Gin type glasses. Far too big for the portion sizes. A gripe for us was the Wine glasses, they had none for the Red wine! We were told they only had 6 in the whole Hotel. Reluctantly we had to drink a lovely few bottles of Red from tiny white wine glasses. Note, service is automatically added £32 on our case. It does say discretionary. Excellent hand sanitiser.

Prices reasonable-high but for the setting I guess it’s expected Menu needs attention. If you have a meal on the menu as basic as steak, chips and bernaise sauce it needs to be executed perfectly. To serve an unseasoned steak is unforgivable. Day 1 of college they teach you how important seasoning is, especially on grilled/seared meat. Triple cooked chips barely cooked. Bernaise sauce perfect, as were our starters. Training to service staff urgently required. It took around 35 mins between us finishing and having our plates cleared and getting the bill. Could be amazing if a bit more attention to detail both front and back of house is addressed

We were very disappointed with a meal in Salcombe but wanted to try Padstow as we’d rented a cottage for a week. Beautiful evening and beautiful window table with view. Tempura prawns were crumbed as opposed to the light tempura batter (sort of same problem in Salcombe). Sea bass was ok, veggies undercooked for me. Took a long time to clear plates. Meanwhile we’d struck up a conversation with people at the ‘very close’ next table. Nobody came near us again. No offers of dessert menu or coffee or another drink. Eventually we flagged down somebody to pay. Food needs to be better and waiting staff need better training. Too much choice in Padstow. Can’t say we’d be back. Shame.

My partner had taken me down to Cornwall for the weekend to show me around as I had never been since I was much younger. He told me I could any restaurant I wanted to in Padstow and after looking through trip advisor I settled on the harbour, not to many poor reviews and the food looked spectacular. He called and asked for a table with a view, when we arrived we were seated at the bar and told that the waiter would collect us when our table was ready. At the time the restaurant was quite busy but from where I was sat the service looked exceptional - I couldn’t of been more wrong. The table we were given was not one with a view of the bay that we had been hoping for although there were initially two in the window that had no one on it and by the time we finished our meal there was even more. When we sat down we had already been sat at the bar long enough with the menu to decide what we wanted.. we were ready to order however we were told me needed to wait - ok? Our starters came out and we were both extremely pleased, the scallops I had were perfectly cooked and my partners salmon although tasty could of been made even better with lemon mayo or something to just add the presentation. Unfortunately, it was down hill from there. I ordered fish and chips, the batter was tasteless and too thick, it had been cooked too ok so the fish was dry rather than moist and flaky. The chips were on the border line of being cooked and being sent back - needless to say they were left along with a big lump of batter. The other half’s steak well, to say it lacked flavour would be an understatement - there was no flavour and although perfectly cooked to a medium rare requirement it lacked the wow factor that even bit of sea salted and cracked pepper would of given the dish, it was a very bland looking plate with nothing of colour on it. The chef could of easy achieved this with some roasted vine tomatoes. The plates were then left in front of us for a good 20 mins with our waitress constantly going past us to attend to everyone else but us. When she finally did make it to us we explained the issues we have had with our meals to which she said she’d speak to the chef and bring us our bill. Whilst paying we were told that the chef was very angry to hear about the steak and told her to tell us it was perfect - sorry but it was not. For some where that has been newly renovated and oozes sophistication it is not demonstrating that in its restaurant. My partner is a chef and I come from a family of chefs - we both knew what was wrong with the meal. A new refurbishment but a tired, dull and bland menu. Think management should take a look at the inside. Will not be visiting any time soon - Rick Steins next time!

As regular Padstow visitors we decided to give this restaurant a go. There were positives and negatives. We were warmly greeted and seated and left for some time before eventually an order for drinks was taken, along with our food order- some 20 minutes. Our drinks took a while to arrive too. The table near us had two out of three meals delivered with apologies and told the third meal would arrive shortly. They said this several times and delivered the meal once the others had completely finished. Our starters arrived. Soup nice but tempura prawns were not, they were heavily breaded, more like chunky scampi. I explained this to the server who checked with the chef and explained that they had lightly tempura’d them and then breaded them. Bizarre and heavy. The main course of porchetta however was outstanding, served with perfectly cooked sides. So sort your poor service and describe your food properly then maybe we’ll come back. This place could be very good.

We ate here on our final evening, interested to take a look at some of the refurbishment going on in what used to be the old Metropole Hotel. We were given the window table which I had requested by email and thus had a lovely view over the Estuary. Service initially was excellent, as we were shown to our table by the very charming head waiter who brought water then three complimentary glasses of prosecco to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary which fell earlier in the week. After that, however, we waited quite a long time for further drinks and then our food. When it came, the order of half a roast chicken with gravy and chipolata, rib-eye steak with chips and Bearnaise sauce and a seafood burger was nicely presented but only good in parts. The chicken was verging on dry and the steak, although tender, strangely lacked much flavour. Also, the dishes all required sides of vegetables/salad or potato dishes to be ordered in addition to each dish. Odd for a roast chicken dish in particular to be on the menu minus any kind of potato accompaniment. The steak was absolutely huge; might have been better to put a more modest steak on the menu and concentrate on the flavour rather than the overwhelming portion size? We wanted to love this restaurant, but service has some way to go and the food was ok without being as good as we'd hoped. We would definitely give this another try on our next stay in Padstow, though, as these could just be teething problems.

However this time on our stay in padstow we visit for a drink as we normally would to soak up the lovely view from the outside terrace, NO real Cornish ale ???? We opted for a Scottish IPA ?, which I know is sold in my local Coop for 3 for £5, so was a bit bemused by the price tag of £11 for two 330ml bottles. We love the metropole and truly hope they go back to their Cornish roots after the refurbishment.

We had dinner whilst staying in the hotel. The food was cooked to perfection. The waiter was attentive and took time to discuss the wine options before giving us a small glass to taste before we ordered. His recommendation about how much vegetables and potatoes to order was spot on. The view over the water added to the evening but even if I was sat staring at a brick wall this is a restaurant I would eat at again and again.

Stayed at the hotel for a week and decided to try their restaurant. Dont normally like hotel food and tend to go out to local restaurants. Glad we decided to have a meal there on Saturday night. My wife and I had Entrecote steak and it was sublime, cooked to perfection and if I was on a blind tasting I would have said it was prime fillet. The bread was home made by the Pastry chef and absolutely delicious. THe staff are so friendly and helpful. Will def be going there more often when we return next year

Had first meal in Padstow at the bar; it was nice to relax after a long day of traveling and enjoy the lovely view. Had an amazing fish dinner and thought we would return on the last night. It was just as bad as the first experience was good. Great service/bad service, great food/ bad food. The only redemption is the probably the amazing views over the estuary.

This wasn't our first time at the Harbour Restaurant and it won't be the last. Every time we are in Newquay we visit this restaurant. Every meal we've had has been amazing and now there is a cocktail bar upstairs looking out over the harbour and sea. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside but the room is a comfortable place to have coffee after your meal. We had cocktails and gin + tonic though. Excellent food, excellent, friendly service. My main meal wasn't very warm and they were very quick to put it right but the quality of the food is excellent.

Just got back from a stay at THE METROPOLE HOTEL in Padstow. We booked in for a Murder Mystery evening and extended the stay by another night. The Murder Mystery was brilliant. All guests for this evening were put onto circular tables of 10 which meant that you could meet other people. The proceedings were led by THE CANDLELIGHT THEATRE COMPANY (or some similar name?). They were a really smart think on their feet Team, all ‘dead’ (forgive the pun) convincing in their roles.

Everything about it was perfect from arrival to departure. The food was excellent, the wines supurb, the service was exceptional and the ambiance was good. It'a a shame it goes dark so early in winter as the view over the harbour would have been fabulous as well, had we been able to see it.

Our first visit to The Metropole Hotel and its lovely restaurant. We were a small group of friends meeting up to celebrate a birthday and from the moment of arrival were very well looked after and catered for. The food was quickly served and beautifully presented, our waiter was very pleasant, helpfull and even arranged a complimentary dessert for our birthday guest ! The wine list is excellent and we can definately recommend the Malbec. We certainly look forward to returning again very soon. Many thanks to all the staff for ensuring we all had a lovely lunch, much appreciated.

Friends and family had a lovely lunch in the Brasserie. We had traditional English fare: fish and chips and beef burgers. The fish were cooked beautifully and were fried in a crisp, light beer batter. They were accompanied by crushed peas and a home made tartare sauce. The burgers were chunky and were served with bacon and home made tomato chutney. We had local draught beer (Windjammer) and gin with the meal. Service was a bit slow as they were short staffed.

Visited here during the Christmas Festival and had a great view of the fireworks, from the restaurant, that evening. We have been going to Padstow for many years and never really considered the Metropole as a place to dine. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the service and quality of the food. We will definitely return.

Sadly over recent years the food and service has declined in choice , quality and service. At least the view has remained constant. The starter was crab with tomato , well hardly any crab and a lot of tomato. Our main course was duck, it was dry, overcooked and stringy, the vegetables were also overcooked with the exception of brussel sprouts which you could hardly cut with a knife. A very poor meal and overpriced, .The menu is unclear exactly what you are getting for the price , why is there not a Table d hote menu with the choice of an a la carte menu .Secondly for a 4 star hotel the dining room staff that served us are not well trained, with the exception of Pip and the head waiter they need to go on a training course Breakfast was the best meal nicely cooked and well presented

As a previous reviewer mentioned , the Padstow area is well known for its top chefs , Stein , Outlaw, Ainsworth , etc, but the Metropole is more than a match for any of them .Our meal was superb, far better than you expect from a hotel restaurant. Also very good value for money and the best views from the elevated position across the Camel estuary. My bread and butter savoury starter being the highlight, as well as the Assiette of deserts, the chef including sticky toffee on our request .It really is an unsung hero in this foodie area .

The hotel main restaurant was excellent with a great choice on the menu which changed in parts every day. With all the foodie establishments surrounding this hotel, Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth and Nathan Outlaw across the estuary, this restaurant has to be good to compete! And it does in spades. Not only is the food presented well and the menu innovative, the flavours are very good too! And all at a very competitive price! The wine list is good too with many good wines that won't break the bank! Well done, we'll be back!

We decided to let others do the cooking and booked in here. It was expensive, but any place would be for Christmas lunch too so we were prepared for that. The portions were small but delicate so we didn't leave feeling stuffed with bad food, and the opportunity to have lobster thermidor as an alternative to turkey for Christmas Lunch is good in my book any day. Charming staff who seemed to want to be there...always a plus.

What a amazing place with amazing staff regardless of any negative reviews. Shame they keep the negative reviews and don't post the good ones that I know have been wrote tonight. Went here for my daughters 18th tonight. 20 of us. All food was amazing all at the same time and all with smiles on there faces. Nothing was too much trouble and I love coming to this place every time everything is how it is stated. Always hot always fresh and always enjoyable and affordable. Thank u so much

My elderly parents stayed overnight at this charming local inn. They were, from the start, treated with huge care and respect. Staff went above and beyond to cater for their needs which included swapping rooms to allow easier access, housing (and charging) a mobility scooter at some inconvenience and finally ensuring they left and returned safely from their social commitment. Their kindness was amazing. And the room itself was fresh, clean and well maintained with all the charm you would expect in this lovely building.

The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
