Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

An historic village pub if you don’t mind travelling a couple of miles down country lanes. Called recently, for lunch, whilst staying in the area. Had not pre-booked but made very welcome. Food very good, very adequate portions, varied selection on the menu. Looking forward to re-visiting when we are back in the area in 2025.

Very quirky 12th century pub, well worth a visit if you are in the area. Very attentive staff, who loved our border collie & made such a fuss of her, excellent Sunday lunch, washed down by a lovely Doom Bar & Shiraz. Mint Aero cheesecake & lemon cheesecake were also excellent. On holiday nearby, & will definitely return. Just what you hope to find when on holiday, a village pub serving great food by lovely staff. Thank you.

This was our second stay during which we had lunch, breakfast and an evening meal and the stay met our expectations of good hospitality and accommodation in a superior room. We were welcomed by the efficient and friendly staff some of the them under training. In the evening the restaurant was extremely busy but the service was quick and efficient. This is not a fancy restaurant but pub food at its best, although we were a bit disappointed by the quality f the foods at breakfast. The rooms are accessed by a steep set of stairs and may not be suitable for older or disabled people, but the bar and restaurant are fully accessible. The Wearry Friar is a very old building in a remote locate location and you must have a car although the single track roads will test your nerves so be aware. If this is the type of establishment you like we would recommend it.

My elderly parents stayed overnight at this charming local inn. They were, from the start, treated with huge care and respect. Staff went above and beyond to cater for their needs which included swapping rooms to allow easier access, housing (and charging) a mobility scooter at some inconvenience and finally ensuring they left and returned safely from their social commitment. Their kindness was amazing. And the room itself was fresh, clean and well maintained with all the charm you would expect in this lovely building.

The quintessential English pub even though it's in Cornwall and a few others would claim a similar title. Lovely village setting beside the old church with the steep East Cornish hills in front of it. Warm welcome , reliable food , nice outdoor seating , good beer , pleasant tables inside. Well worth a visit.

We had a lovely stay at the Wearing Friar Inn, the staff were all very friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. My partner is coeliac and they were very accommodating both for our evening meal and breakfasts. During breakfast upon hearing that she was coeliac, the chef came out to discuss the extent of her allergy and advise the options he had for her. Ended up with a fab adapted full English!

Even though we were in Cornwall, nobody tried to explain ‘the concept’ of the food to us, so if you like pretentious give this place a miss. Instead we were provided with generous servings of no nonsense pub food, at very reasonable prices, served by a friendly team. It’s clearly a local’s pub but well worth a detour to find it.

Last visited here in 1979 so it was a trip down memory lane. Just as good as I remembered. Lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff and excellent food! The days of chicken in a basket with onion rings may be gone ( that was always my favourite by the way) but every plate of food was great. Six of us lunched here and I was able to enjoy a truly lovely liver and bacon with mash and gravy. Gorgeous! Good value and so glad we chose it as a venue for a get together. If you want to check it out, which I highly recommend don’t let the sat nav take you on Ponds Hill at Landrake! Ridiculously tiny but so very Cornish roads🤣Go via Hatt!!!

Whilst out for a dog walk we called in for a drink. Being respectful to diners we sat outside with the dogs. It’s a shame that outside seems so unkept and un welcoming. Dead plants in baskets, fag buts surrounding and litter wedged between the benches. The ground looked like it hadn’t ever seen a brush! Not the most inviting but we didn’t have much choice whilst on foot! At least my husband enjoyed the tribute!

What a lovely pub! We visited for a drink on Saturday evening - great atmosphere and lovely friendly service. Real ales I’m told were great, red wine also very good. We returned for Sunday roast the next day - very simple and unpretentious delicious home cooking, it comes ready plated with 2 veg and big fluffy Yorkshires. £14.95 really good value. The puds were homemade and fab. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

A large party of my family went for Sunday lunch to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Just two negative points. Most of my family have said about their disappointment in their roast dinners. The roast potatoes were terrible. There were too many on a plate and instead of this more greens would be amazing. The potatoes were too hard, it was difficult to get your fork into the very hard surface of the spud and the inners had a tiny bit of potato. It would be brilliant if they could either do homemade roast potatoes or buy some good quality frozen ones. Also, can they do something different with the Yorkshire puddings. Most of my family had a negative comment about the roast potatoes. I hate complaining but my message may help them. I really like the Weary Friar, it's a fabulous place!

Stayed for two nights at this genuine country pub and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Although the room was a bit on the small side and fairly basic it was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. We were also well supplied with toiletries and towels for the duration of our sty. The only access to the rooms is up a steep staircase and this might be difficult if you are disabled. On arrival we had lunch in the bar and the light meals were very good indeed from the extensive bar menu selection, with large portions at a very reasonable price. On the second night we also ate in the bar with friends and the food was again excellent and well priced. The full English breakfast was enormous and the other cooked items were delivered promptly at our table in the restaurant area and the buffet was well stocked with cereals etc. Throughout our stay we were made most welcome by all the staff and in the bar the food and drinks were all served promptly. We would recommend this inn for its food and accommodation when visiting the area, but be warned access is only possible on mostly single track roads so care when driving is essential. The Inn is next door to an interesting 13th century church which is well worth visit. during your visit.

We as a group, normally 4 of us, like to go out and get a Sunday roast just for a change. We visited The Tired Monk as us locals call it for Sunday lunch but only the 3 of us. Lovely little pub, seemed busy which is a good sign. When our meal came out, yes it was a full plate but: the meat was very tough, not even the knife wanted to cut through it. The veg, well I don’t mind Al dente, but the veg weren’t as tender as they should be shall we say. The roast potatoes were fab though and well cooked. The gravy was nice tasting too but the rest disappointing. For the price charged it needs to be perfect. The lady behind he bar looked crest fallen bless her, the gentleman before us also complained. Shame really, but we won’t be going back for a while.

My partner and I checked in on Monday 17th August, we where greeted by a lovely welcoming barmaid. We stayed for 3 nights, our room was perfect, small, quaint and cosy. The bathroom looked newly decorated. The room did get warm over night however the...

Having booked a table for 5 for Wednesday evening we duly turned up and adhered to the safety procedures at the entrance. We were looking forward to enjoying a catch up over dinner made even better by being part of the 'Eat out, help out'...

Had a lovely lunch here last Wednesday. The social distancing arrangements were good, the waitresses were attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent. We will definitely return.

This is a lovely pub set next to the old church in the village of Pillaton. The village itself is approached by some pretty tight lanes so take care!!! The pub looks little as you approach it but its really quite an extensive building with...

Gave the Weary Friar another go after a terrible meal when new owners took over 3yrs ago. Been assured things have improved. Sadly not. Poor service, nobody to meet and greet, 15min wait to order a drink. No cutlery on the table before food was...

What a disorganised and sad experience. Booked a table in a specific area. Arrived to find we were in the miserable large dining area. Drinks took 20 minutes, food followed later. Food OK. Bill was wrong. Chaos seems to be the norm. Young staff tried...

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x

We booked afternoon tea for family celebrations. Afternoon tea was presented beautifully and was delicious. Our waitress Pinka was friendly and looked after us. The special offer was a bonus too. Highly recommended!
