We went for Sunday lunch with friends & our dog. The setting is beautiful & parking is plentiful. The service, food, wine & ambience were great. Sadly, the Sunday roast option had sold out by 2.30 pm but the other dishes on the menu were excellent. I would thoroughly recommend a visit & we’ll certainly return.

Living in East Sussex where pub food tends to be a bit more expensive, the food here is more expensive than there and frankly not worth the price. A pint at £5.75 isn't cheap. The steak and ale pie had very good lean meat but too much gravy, and a thin slice of pastry on top. The 'selection' of vegetables was minute - see the photo, and the chips were rather disappointing.

Unimaginative, lacking seasoning, dry, lacking sauce and expensive for what it was. Maybe a bad day in the kitchen, though why should we suffer? First time I've seen a cheese soufleé which is solid, served with a creamy liquid around it on a flat plate and lacking cheese taste. We asked the unhelpful bored server, who looked as if we were a nuisance, and he confirmed, yes, this was a souffleé. Dry terrine to start, with a huge egg in the middle - saves meat I suppose, but lacking flavour and seasoning and some kind of chutney or sauce. There were spots of something on the plate which left more in the plate than I could lift off. Now I'm too bored to go into the other courses. Lovely bar but crap atmosphere.

stopped in at the pub on way home from the West coast, intention was to have some dinner, one couple outside with maybe 7 0r 8 empty tables, a few tables taken inside, nobody waiting to get served at the bar, barman drying glasses asked if we had a booking, we said politely no, just hoped we could grab a bite to eat, he said in a quite unpleasant manner, no booking no table, that was it.... we have been many times over the years, never again, rude, rude, rude.

We have been coming to Meiklour for many years and have always been pleased with quality of food and service. Today we were having a lunch for a family reunion and I regret to say that the starters of whitebait did not meet the usual standard priced at £10.95 ! Per portion, we ordered 4 portions costing a whopping £43.80. Each portion consited of of 7/8 tiny whitebait with a microscopic salad no lemon and a tiny amount of mayonnaise. The quality is not in question but the quantity is ,perhaps Chef should reconsider pricing of this dish or at least portion control. I would usually mention a problem at the time of dining but as you can understand it was a family gathering which I was hosting.

Had lunch here with friends on sunday. We were constantly rushed from start to finish, by both the waitor and waitress. One sunday roast was partially cold, overcooked chicken and one of the sticky toffee puddings was completely dried out. If the table is only for a limited period, this should be made clear upon booking.

Sadly having to write this review - went here for lunch on 21 April - from minute sat down felt rushed by staff who made clear we were in a timer. Plates for main course being cleared before one of the party had finished by 3 members of staff for a table of 4? Told had 5 minutes to choose sweets. Several times near end of meal asked to hand over my water glass . Said no a couple of times because was wanting another glass of water out of the bottle provided - eventually gave in to get peace - then table cleared as if we weren’t still sitting there. Now the food - chicken was nice and tender but had burnt coating, Yorkshire pudding dry giving impression not fresh and sticky toffee pudding over done in microwave. Not sure what went wrong but left feeling pretty hacked off at the experience and we are people who are generally easy pleased.

Definitely not closed! Stopped off for lunch and it was wonderful. I had the baked Blue Ling which was perfectly cooked, seared lettuce and fragrant jasmine rice. The whole experience really tasty cooked by a talented chef who knows what they’re doing. My wife had two veggie starters of which the star was the gnocchi. Clean, relaxed, friendly staff and good food. What’s not to like?

Arrived at restaurant and we were greeted by girl behind bar. Told her we had a booking to be told come with the shake of her head . Were sat in restaurant away from bar. The hotel and restaurant is lovely in itself. We get that it’s a fishing lodge and country hotel and dogs are welcome. Most dogs were well behaved but one in particular would not stop barking as other customers were arriving with their dogs. Not a nice quiet meal and not good press for said country hotel. ( At least 6 times during our hour and half visit this dog barked) My hubby had a lovely starter of black pudding scotch egg . Then steak pie for main I had sirloin steak which was good. Chips ( bought in ) were absolutely awful so much so I said to a lovely wee waitress and she got them replaced . Menu not brilliant. Won’t be rushing back. Meikleour used to be the place to go what a shame that standards have slipped.

Stopped in for a bite to eat and my wife and I each had fish and chips. Chips were ok, mushy peas good however the fish badly let the show down. The batter, although crispy, was 'heavy' and had a strong taste plus was very greasy. The fish on one of the plates was passable however my wifes was grey and did not look fresh at all. We tried to give our dog a bit of the fish and she turned up her nose at it!! For just under £17 for each 'meal, The Meikleou Arms needs to up the ante somewhat and until it does we won't be back!! Such a pity that the food didn't come up to the same levels of service as the waiting staff who were excellent.

Went with family for a Sunday roast dinner the soup to start was lovely The cheese soufflé was only Luke warm and not nice at all. The roast potato potatoes weren’t roasted at all they were just white and hard. The meat quality wasn’t very good. We asked for extra gravy as the lunch was very dry and they charged us an extra £5 for a tiny jug of gravy. Not a great meal when the staff came to pick my plate of food up which I hadn’t eaten. All they said was was it too much for you but I had asked if I could have some roasted potatoes and they just told me that’s how their potatoes come.. wished I had taken photos so I could share.

Having read reviews I expected great things from this meal, how wrong can you be?! We both chose prawn cocktail for starters feeling very nostalgic, what a disappointment, very ordinary prawns nothing spectacular here, no bread served with it either, cost £10ish I chose the rib eye steak from the special menu both special here for the extortionate price of £36 ish bit of veg and mushrooms on the side with the worst fries I’ve ever had. My husband had the crumble which he said was good (praise indeed!) cost £9ish . The people sat next to us were not happy we had brought our little well behaved quiet dog. Maybe they should have moved. I would not be returning to this establishment, I found the staff lacking and the food as I say overpriced average.

Friday Evening Dinner Visit I was staying at the hotel and had asked to prebook a table for dinner two weeks in advance; which I did for 8pm. Turned up at 8pm to be told by the barman that the only table they had left was one near the front door in the very noisy bar area, not the restaurant I had booked m. Tried the bar area for a couple of minutes but the noise from some loud tables was too much so moved to a table in the corridor outside the bar as I had been told the restaurant was full. A very nice French waitress saw me sitting there and asked if she could help. She checked and took me through to the restaurant where we discovered it was actually only 30% full. She got me settled at a nice table and the food I had was enjoyable (but expensive at London prices). Having been told I had to prebook the experience of being shuffled around for 30 minutes until I got a nice table was very irritating after a full day of travel from London. Definitely put me off using it again during my stay.

We came across the meikleour arms by chance and how lucky we were. Really warm welcome, in a beautiful and spacious restaurant room with quirky decor. Our lovely Spanish waitress recommended the twice baked soufflés to my grandmother and she was over the moon with it. I, myself got the surf and turf and with whole heart I can say it was the best fillet beef I ever had. The salad looked great, although not my cup of tee. Overall a delightful experience and I wish it was my local.

It's a long time since we've dined at The Meiklour Arms and were really looking forward to our meal. Sadly, I think it will be a long time before we go back again. A combination of poor service and the quality of the food we experienced left us feeling very disappointed. Perhaps it was because the restaurant was very busy. Perhaps it was because the waiting staff were overwhelmed by the volume of diners they were having to serve. From our perspective something was wrong. For example...on two separate occasions two members of our party were served with part of their meal but no cutlery to go with it. It's difficult to eat soup/ice cream with a fork! A jug of water and glasses appeared at our table towards the end of the main course but only after we had asked for it. While my husband had the Mushroom soup and raved about its quality the double baked soufles and the goats cheese and heritage beetroot salad were a let down. Yes there was beetroot hiding underneath a multi-coloured bed of lettuce but it bore no resemblance to what I think of as 'heritage'. When the main courses arrived we were again left disappointed not only by the quality of the food but also the size of the portions with which we were presented. Although the mashed potato and seasonal veg which came with my lemon sole was tasty it was verging on 'warmish' by the time it reached me while the chicken breast with lemon butter and its accompaniments would have been more appropriate as a child's portion. While the battered fish looked lovely on the plate the batter was tough and the fish undercooked. The chips which accompanied it looked pretty stacked in their basket, but appeared as if they had been overcooked. While the nasturtium and viola flowers looked pretty on the plates sadly they did nothing to enhance our culinary experience. Maybe the folk behind the scenes were trying a wee bit too hard and it didn't work out. Maybe they were rushed off their feet. Neither should detract from quality or quantity in a restaurant with the reputation held by The Meiklour Arms. I have no idea what those around us thought of their meals but suffice to say we won't be recommending The Meiklour Arms to anyone who's looking for quality food (not pub grub) at fair prices which is a great pity because we like to support our community whenever we can.

Very disappointed we had dinner for 4 & 3 of us left very disappointed & still hungry twice baked soufflé was nothing like a soufflé not light & fluffy the goats cheese & beetroot salad the beetroot was beetroot crisps was looking forward to fresh the garden veg with the lemon chicken were not worth putting on the plate tiny little pieces of veg (4) + a piece of inedible broccoli the salad with my husband’s meal was mainly hard pieces of stalks .The special was lemon sole was also a bit expensive for what it was we paid a lot for a meal that left us all dissapointed. Think there is also a training issue as having to ask for cutlery twice during the meal shouldn’t happen.Have eaten here often over the years & never been disappointed but sorry there are lots of other restaurants I would rather eat at sorry but we will not hurry back 😢

A very disappointing evening. We are a local couple who live just 10 miles from the restaurant which we frequent fairly often, but on this occasion have decided we will probably not return. My meal from the specials menu was a Bourride, this was just 9 mussels , 3 pieces of tasteless squid, a dozen or so minute shrimps, they were advertised as prawns!! & 2 tiny pieces of smoked haddock no bigger than my thumb nail, not worthy of the price of £24.99p The room was empty when we arrived at 5pm apart from one other couple, unfortunately after half an hour or so a party of 12 arrived with two noisy children, one was a toddler with learning difficulties who screamed continually, why could this party not have been placed in the private dining room. Our evening was spoilt , my husbands meal of steak was excellent , but surely large parties of 12 should not be able to occupy a very tiny dining area. Our waitress was wonderful , we felt for her having to cope with this noisy environment. Sorry but we will not be rushing back as standards appear to have slipped.

Always visited the restaurant for a meal while visiting up in the area and was never ever disappointed until now. We found that the menu no longer had much variety, from the choices that were available either on the set menu of the day or the normal menu. Whilst we expected prices to be up we paid £18.50 per person for a steak pie that was vastly overseasoned with pepper, and left horrid taste in mouth and raging heartburn thereafter. I would not recommend it and with a sad heart reluctantly have decided not to go back. I feel it has gone downhill and would not now recommend it to anyone for a meal.

The service was very slow indeed. Ten minutes after ordering drinks I had to get up and find out what had happened. Paying at the end of the meal I had to get up and then wait for someone to appear. When I politely suggested to the waitress that she ought to tell her boss that perhaps they were understaffed she said that they didn't know how busy it would be...............considering that there was a notice by the entrance which stated there was no admission without a reservation what she had to say (bearing in mind that because of covid she should know EXACTLY how many and when) this was eyewash at best. This 'denial' was seen again concerning the swing front door, which made a loud thumping noise every time that it was opened, apparently only being notice by our waitress the other day when another guest pointed it out! If the door had been wedged open it would also make the constantly whirring fan unnecessary as the weather was warm. (I suspect that no window could be opened as all catches etc. seemed to be painted over). However my food (courgette and basil soup and venison two ways) was very good. My wife's souffle was 'OK' and the kedgeree was salty ( I can confirm) and made to an unusual recipe.Given the number of good reviews we may just have had an unlucky day.

Starters lovely.Main course of duo of Venison, consisted of 2 bite size pieces of venison, 4 small potatoes, ramekin dish of cottage pie and inedible vegetables, not worth £18.00!!Sweet - white chocolate cheese cake with local berries - very bland, and although the hotel disagreed, the local berries tasted and looked likes tinned strawberries. When we were asked how we enjoyed our meal, and explained the above, the staff didn’t care....Staff in the kitchen should be careful what language they used as can be heard by customers passing and not very pleasant...Social distancing was good.

Nice environment and friendly staff. Menu has a good choice of dishes. A couple of minor gripes; when we were shown to our table it hadn't been cleaned. There was food on the tables from the previous customers (crumbs, other small food deposits) which in the current climate was unpleasant. The waitress did come to clean it when we asked though. Starter of prawn cocktail was nice but its hard to not make a good prawn cocktail! Steak and ale pie was tasty although very watery making it hard to eat out of the dish its served in. Pastry very thin and a tad soggy. Some of the beef had not had all the fat removed.I like the Meikleour but food was a bit underwhelming on this occasion.

Very good food. Fresh, organic and very tasty. I had gnocchi and hake. I was absolutely happy after my meal. Would definitely come back.

Real quality food, everything right down to the ketchup is homemade, the French influence is clear to see and taste. They have implemented some simple but very effective measures to make dinning safe and yet unencombered in the current pandemic. Booking is essential. LOTS of space between tables. Only wish I’d went hunger enough to eat 3 courses. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had dinner on a quiet Monday evening recently. The service was prompt, the menu full of interesting choices and the food we ordered tasty, delivered promptly and excellent value for money. Would return without hesitation.

Yet again, the Restaurant At Meikleour Arms did not disappoint. We were a large party of 16 on the 01/01/2020 celebrating my father's 80th birthday. I would firstly like to thank everyone for accommodating such a large party at fairly short notice and for being flexible with the menu for the vegetarian / vegans in the party. The food was delicious and plentiful. Service was excellent and staff extremely friendly and accommodating. I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Fortunately for us, it's just a 10 minute drive away :-) Please pass on our thanks to everyone who made an "old man's!!" evening, one to remember. Cheers :-)

We enjoyed a terrific meal here on a busy Friday night in August. This was our second trip here for a meal this summer and it was even better than before.Making a reservation by phone earlier in the day was slick and easy, being confirmed by text. Staff were welcoming and efficient and the service we had was faultless. We had a table close to the bar which was busy and fairly noisy initially but the numbers soon thinned out. Unfortunately a couple of, presumably local, drinkers who stayed on and were well-fuelled became a bit loud and raucous; the foul-language which was a bit intrusive. That apart, we enjoyed ourselves and sampled some excellent fare washed down with the very palatable house claret. I gather the butchery is locally sourced - it is not to be missed.I can strongly recommend the Meikleour Arms for a meal. We will certainly return but would probably try for a table a bit further away from the immediate bar area next time.

We've driven by the Meikleour Arms many times on the way to visit family but invariably always not long after we'd eaten. However, last Sunday we decided to make a specific trip for lunch and we left very impressed with the warm and friendly hospitality, delicious food and quality surroundings. There are plenty of inns in the Scottish countryside that look really appealing on the outside but when you step inside, things don't live up to your expectations. Not so with the Meikleour Arms, everything was spot on including little touches like water for the table without asking and cloth napkins. We had the Steak & Ale pie (which had lots of tender chunks of beef and was very tasty) and also ordered the baked cod, which was just as delicious, lovely white flaky fish cooked perfectly with excellent boiled potatoes to accompany. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a lovely feel of comfort and quality about it. The toilets were also very nice and spotlessly clean. There's plenty of parking, some right at the door with an overflow car park on the other side of the road.

Firstly, and in the interests of local harmony, I am reliably informed that the pronunciation is Mi(as in mitten)-cloor. I have always enjoyed eating at this wonderful village in the glorious Perthshire countryside and benefitting from a regularly changing menu built around local and truly seasonal produce.

We went for coffee not having been for years and discovered it had greatly improved. The staff were great, the coffee was excellent and, having looked at the dinner menu, we booked to return in the evening for dinner. The service at dinner was slow but we weren't in a hurry so that was not a problem and it was a very pleasant place to sit. Mushroom soup was too peppery but cheese soufflé was outstanding. For mains the streak and ale pie was very good with delicious tender beef. The sea bass was a tiny piece of fish and I think we probably should have had a side order with that dish. The staff were cheery and pleasant and the two large dogs that arrived at the table next to us were extremely well behaved. A very peasant evening in a lovely setting.

Stayed at the Meikleour cottages. Lovely accommodation with stunning surroundings. The hotel was fabulous. We had dinner there every night. Food was excellent. Staff made us feel very welcome. Special shout out to Rob, who was a excellent host. Even when rushed off his feet being a busy weekend, he still took time to ask us about our day. Another bonus was the table that was reserved for us each night, which was in a great spot with us having a dog. Can’t wait to re visit

Almost 5 pounds for a cappuccino for which no order has been taken at first, for which you then have to wait more than 20 minutes, with a spoon and sugar missing and, as a highlight, a 10% service fee appears on the bill? As beautiful as it is in Gleneagles - unfortunately we didn't like it at all...

Went for lunch yesterday with my parents and dog on arrival our table was clearly marked ours and there was already a bowl of water awaiting my dog I thought this was super sweet and thoughtful, the waitress we had was brilliant with my wee Jack Russell she gave him a few biscuits and attention he loved it. Service was quick and the food as always was delicious. Lovely warm welcoming place to eat out and we always choose here when we go for lunch. Great menu lots of choice.

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.

I give up, I really do. Have stopped using the restaurant because the food is pretty poor and the staff are surly at best. This morning I wanted to purchase a food item which they have stocked for years. First young girl I asked couldn't understand what I was asking for, second one said they didn't stock it although she has served me in the past and the third one said it had sold out but they might be getting some in in a couple of weeks. Several other local people have mentioned how rude the staff were. Hospitable is not a word you can use for this place and yet years ago it used to be good on all counts.
