Having not been to The Greyhound for a year or so, I was thrilled with our choice. Nothing had changed, everything was as good as before. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Despite the restaurant being busy, Service was prompt and friendly and the food ( Steak & Kidney Pie / Fruity Chicken Curry ) was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended. We certainly won't leave it so long till we return

Arrived around 2pm in beautiful sunshine so decided to sit in the garden, in the sunshine rather than indoors or in the very shaded terrace with a strong breeze. Went to get our drinks. Only 2 beers on tap and it took 10 minutes to get a beer and a 1/2 of Guinness. Did come away with 2 pints rather than the one I wanted because the barrel of Butty was playing up so was offered it free if it tasted ok. Went back half an hour later to order food to be told that it was no longer ‘summer service’ so I couldn’t have food in the garden, I could only sit in the pub or on the shaded, breezy outdoor terrace. Decided not to eat. It’s a pity that there was no flexibility at all in serving the customer.

My wife and I visited this pub on Monday 14th October, wanting a simple lunch, happy to have standard pub food. I called in advance to reserve a table but was told there was no need as it was very quiet. We were greeted cheerfully and shown to a table. Drink order taken and the waitress returned five mins later wishing to take the food order. We were, at that time, the only customers in the Pub. I ordered the Mexican burger, which was accompanied by French fries. My wife chose the mushroom and broad bean Tagliatelli. Ten minutes later the food arrived . The burger placed in front of me and a dish for my wife which was obviously not what she ordered. We called the waitress who looked , giggled and said “ Oh - he has cooked you beef stroganoff with rice” There was then that awkward wait whilst the stroganoff was whisked away and replaced with the food which my wife ordered. By the time her dish was delivered, mine was like warm and the base bread on the burger was soggy . These meals were both priced at £18. The food was average and didn’t deliver value. The bill including the one drink each which we had was approaching £50, for a pub lunch! Given all of the hype which the owner has put on the website, ( Award winning etc) , we were hugely disappointed. I would not return.

We came to have lunch. It was very cold in the restaurant area so we asked for the heating to be turned on. We were told that the boiler was broken. The waitress turned on the electric wood burner as she said it would heat up quickly. The room didn’t seem to heat up, we checked the stove and it was just a flame effect with no heat. On leaving the premises we were asked if we were ok, my partner said it was freezing, the lady didn’t even acknowledge it! The food was adequate, chicken burger and fries, small for the money and served on a house slate which was messy. We won’t go again.

Stayed here for three nights with our little dog. The pub is lovely, the setting is beautiful, however, the noise from the dual carriageway (A449) is very noticeable. I got around this at night by using earplugs which, as a by-product, meant I couldn’t hear my husband’s snoring and therefore had a brilliant night’s sleep every night! I have continued their use ever since… All the food we had here was very nice; quite expensive but, too be honest, it’s probably on par with most places these days. The service was excellent, and all the staff made a fuss of our Parson Russell Terrier. There’s a great space outside, the Doggy Play Paddock, for a safe space to let your dog have a run around. There is also a pétanque area and on the Wednesday evening there were lots of games going on which made for something completely different to watch. Our room was on the ground floor, spacious with French doors out to the beautiful garden. A dog bed, food and water bowls plus treats were waiting. There was also a sausage for our dog’s breakfast every morning. I must mention the music. Apparently, the play list was compiled by a chap called Jon ‘The Sock’ Penny and it was brilliant. We enjoyed playing our game of cards after dinner listening to really good tunes. The surrounding area is wonderful. Usk is lovely and very pretty with lots of flowers everywhere. The Wye Valley is easily accessible and so beautiful. Tintern, with its Abbey, is definitely worth a visit. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area.

I have been visiting the Greyhound for over 30 years. My family were very sorry to see Nick and family sell up as the food and welcome was always excellent. Get quite nostalgic remembering the staff asking if you wanted the excellent pie turned out , the fabulous Glamorgan sausages , the great steak. The puddings were to die for especially the excellent pavlova. The breakfasts were excellent , generous and always served with a smile by I think Nicks uncle. When the new team took over the accomodation bathrooms were updated and other positive changes with outdoor seating areas etc. More recently despite all the positives as an extended family we feel the food is not what it was . The portions are not as generous which may be no bad thing , but while obviously catering for greater numbers the food has lost its quality. For example the pie I used to look forward to in its individual pot , was recently served as a circle of pastry with a portion of steak and kidney on it , then another circle of puff pastry on top. Obviously there has to be a balance between profit and quality but it's such a shame. Having read many of the reviews I would also like to add that people should be encouraged to leave constructive feedback. The owners have the opportunity to respond which should always in my opinion be in a professional manner.

Shocking attitude off staff and owner..! Told to drink bottles a not allowed to drink pints from the bar as the place is too busy to serve from the bar!!! Served cold scabby hotdog out side in freezing conditions -5 !! Used to be such a beautiful happy pub but since take over by new owners it’s gone to the dogs!! Won’t eat or drink here again or recommend the place to anyone after 20 years of coming to the pub!!! So so so sad!! 0/5 for me !!!!!

Another enjoyable visit to the Holland Arms. Usual friendly welcome and great service. We shared a duck starter from the specials board, amazing, especially the sauce. We then had lamb and steak as our mains. Both meats were delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. Good choice of wine (I enjoyed the Malbec). Couldn’t resist a bread and butter pudding for dessert - even though full. Look forward to our next visit - probably one of the Christmas meals now being advertised. Very reasonable bill.

Beautiful location and beer garden is beautiful next to the river, however the barmaid was very snappy with my boyfriend and it seemed very clicky. A shame as it would be beautiful in the summer months
