We have just been to sample the new afternoon menu. BRILLIANT can't wait to go again. It'll be even better when the weather improves and you can eat outside . Good sized nibbles in small dishes. Recommend you order all five, plenty for two to share. The chunky chips with sandwiches were heavenly.

Great meal out for our anniversary. Service was excellent throughout. Lovely garden to wander around first (great tip Mum !). Starter was Thai fish cakes which were smaller than usual and exquisite. V tasty chilli jam with them. Then I went for the special which was pheasant. Superbly cooked and v tasty. Wife went for salmon which she said had an explosion of flavour. Had to Nick some ! Two puds devoured as well. Wifey went for baileys cheesecake which she loved. I had the sunken chocolate cake. Amazing. Both loved the banana ice cream. Well worth a trip out here. Top evening Thankyou

Afternoon tea, felt didn’t meet our expectations. No menu for choice of sandwiches or teas. No offer of glass of Prosecco which would have been nice, didn’t want to just leave the table and go to the bar. I had to ask for another pot of tea which is normally offered in my experience of afternoon teas. This came without the additional pot of water for top up which was served with the first one. Disappointed as this was a special occasion.

I was so looking forward to Sunday lunch at The Gibbon Bridge, but I was thoroughly disappointed by the whole experience. The restaurant is a huge venue, and sadly, few customers were dining on the Sunday we were visiting. Despite the huge restaurant, the staff had decided to squash four tables as close as they possibly could to each other at one side of the room - literally leaving no room for you to walk behind your chair to get to your table. Zero sense. There was a hair baked into the bread before my starter for one. The starters then came out, and the member of staff slide my plate down in front of me (I had to catch up), while dropping the other two plates in his hand. This resulted in food dropping on my Auntie sat next to me. They took the starters away, apologised, and returned with food around 20 minutes later. They had clearly rushed the starters by this point, as the soufflés that my family had weren't the best. My black pudding parcel, however, was delicious. Then came the main course. One roast beef was difficult to cut, and the hake dish that I had was wrapped in the most bland, tasteless 'mouse' which had an omelette-like constituency. It added nothing to the dish, and if anything, spoiled the hake. We fed this back to the staff. Then the pudding - STP... surely this couldn't be spoiled! It arrived barely lukewarm. We tried to order more drinks, but the waiting staff wouldn't take our order, and requested we leave the dining table and go order at the bar, which I did... but there were no staff at the bar, despite standing around for 10 minutes. We ended up paying and leaving because we had enough. I have had better meals on local pub restaurants, who offer better food and service at a fraction of the price. This place has so much potential, and with the correct business focus, could do all sorts of fantastic things.

Have been coming to Gibbon Bridge for many years and always loved the setting and especially the food. Our recent experience left me disappointed. The setting as ever was beautiful, grounds manicured to perfection. The meal was very disappointing. Service whilst functional had no soul. The food was over cooked, the serving looked like old fashioned school dinners. I don’t think there can be a smaller duck leg portion than what was served to us. The prices, not unexpectedly, have increased but we feel we are now paying for the experience of the gardens as much as the meal itself. We will not be rushing back which is disappointing!

This has been our go to place to dine on a special occasion for many years now. It has never been cheap but we’ve always come away feeling that we’ve had a good meal. We visited recently for Sunday lunch at £30 a head. Now I’ve always understood that Sunday lunch traditionally includes roast beef…. and it does here , if you pay an extra £5!! Needless to say we didn’t and both chose duck leg which was the size of a guinea fowl drumstick and tough as old boots. With it came one minute broccoli floret without even any stalk, one baby carrot and half (yes half) a new potato. Desserts were fine so no comments there. Drinks extortionate as they’ve always been so no different there. Now I’m fully aware that everything has become much more expensive this year so the hike in prices was to be expected, but to go away from here feeling hungry was not expected. The management need to realise that there are lots if other similar priced establishments that still offer some value for money and unless they make changes they will lose custom as the squeeze tightens and are likely to have to close down. After over 20 years of visiting Gibbons I won’t return in future.

We had evening meal here during our stay. Lovely log fire roaring in the bar and lounge area whilst we were waiting to be shown through to our table. Lovely choice of meals. We had Salmon fish cakes , deep fried king prawns for starters and there was a basket of home made bread on the table also baked on the premises Main course we had Pheasant and duck which had a lovely stuffing and roast potato with creamed potato with carrots and Brocolli and the gravy/sauce was so tasty Dessert we had Cheese board which was huge Lemon meringue roll with lemon meringue ice cream, this was to die for and the tastiest dessert I’ve ever had Service was great and the whole evening was spot on

Disappointing New Year's day lunch for £30 each plus extras, ie coffees/teas and 10% service charge. Felt it necessary to speak to waiter re tough and overcooked duck leg, who replied he'd have a word with chef. Said young chef disappeared, never to be seen again!! Left 'high and dry' wondering what to do, as dinner went cold. In the end, chewed our way thru meal as appeared to be no other option. Mentioned incident when paying bill and told we would be charged for 2 courses, not 3. Didnt happen! At the time we found bill difficult to understand as not itemized as per usual. Felt rushed into paying as staff hovered and it became clear Gibbon Bridge was 'shutting up shop's. On examination of bill later, it became clear only £10 deducted from £70+ total. Needless to say, unable to recommend. Lovely 4* restaurant spoiled by 1* service and treatment.

My wife and I had not been to the Gibbon Bridge for some years. I like the size of the rooms, the lounge and the restaurant are very nicely decorated and laid out. We had Champagne on arrival (£48.50). This was not a particularly good Champagne and I wish we had selected the Camille Bonville Blanc de blanc at £55.50. We all ordered different food from the luncheon menu. I had potted shrimps (okay) and sous vide pork fillet. I ordered a bottle of Pato Torrente Sauvignon (Chile) - excellent - and two bottles of the Romanian Paparuda Pinot Noir - also very good: both to be recommended. For pudding, I had apple pie and ice cream, which I enjoyed. The service throughout was very good and our waiter kindly spotted that a button had come away from my jacket, which saved some concern later - so thank you again. We repaired to the bar for coffees and liqueurs. The guests had some mixed tales regarding the food. Generally the reviews were good and one was a chef and he enjoyed his! Enough said. I would certainly return to the Gibbon Bridge and I think 4 out of 5 stars sums it up.

We had not been here for sometime and were looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch but were sadly disappointed. I am not sure what has happened here with the decor but there is a mish-mash of classic and odd touches of modernity. The crazy wallpaper in the bar lounge area with matching cushions really looked out of place and the large banquette of seating opposite the bar was over the top and ugly to boot.

Service was good and the staff were polite and helpful. We found the tomato soup was had the strongest tomato tasting soup we had eaten. The Main course we had hake and because my wife was allergic to cream and didn't like chili sauce she had to eat it without sauce. A cheese sauce should be available in these circumstances. We enjoyed the meal and thought the roast potato was the best we had tasted. We thought the main course potion was smaller than last time we visited and not worth the money. The choice of desserts has gone down from originally about eight to four and now to just one. We opted to just have a larger portion of the sticky toffee pudding and they specially make custard for my wife. She thought the pudding was a bit lacking in taste probably because we like with dates in but it was nice and soft and I enjoyed it. We had the impression from the menu that you had to have the coffee even if you didn't want it.

Whether fish, meat or vegetarian. Not only was the food very good, the staff were very good too, able to advise when asked about any dishPlus there is the plush surroundings, especially mentioning the comfy armchairs and sofas facing the huge open fire in the bar where we had a pre dinner drink as we made our choices from the menu, and finished with our coffee

Stopped by for a drink whilst on a nice walk. It didn't look busy and we were in walking gear. Was told it was 'formal' only and turned down even when we offered to sit outside. What kind of country hotel can't accommodate a couple of walkers???

Excellent food, good choice, complemented by good wines, and topped of with friendly staff. The bar area for coffee after meals is lovely - especially when it is nippy and the fire is going!

We have been visiting the Gibbon Bridge for years and have seen many changes. The hotel has been developed and improved. I love the roaring log fire in the lounge where we sit to have pre-dinner drinks and to order our food. There is a good selection of lunch time dishes. The slow cooked duckling is a favourite with us. We enjoyed lunch on Valentine's Day and the single red roses on all the tables was a romantic touch. The setting of the hotel is quite simply superb and great attention is paid to maintaining the lovely gardens. This is a very popular venue for weddings. The black pudding starter is even appreciated by me and I am not really a fan of it. The belly pork starter was not as tasty. We both commented that the portion size of the main course seems to have been reduced. The deserts were very good. I do wish that the excellent home made bread was brought to the table warm. It would be so much more enjoyable. I also wish that the shortbread was made with butter as it makes such a difference to the taste. We were able to use a £5.00 off voucher so the three course meal for two came to £39.00. I believe that £19.50 each is acceptable for a mid-week 3 course meal in such a lovely setting. The Gibbon Bridge has an air of romance about it and I would certainly recommend the lunch, especially on a beautiful day when you can also enjoy the gardens.

Having read through the other reviews of Gibbon Bridge Hotel Restaurant, I was genuinely confused because our experience bore little or no resemblance. We were a party of three (two adults and a child) for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. The reception area of the restaurant is very welcoming with a lovely Maitre D', comfy sofas and open fire. The restaurant itself is expansive, and at a busy service (Sunday Lunch) it was very noisy - reminiscent of the echoey noise in a swimming pool - so the atmosphere hardly served as intimate. Our food was very disappointing; the only strong point to our lunch was the roast meat, the vegetables were over-cooked (the one roast potato on our plates and the Yorkshire puddings tasted like they had been sat on the pass for longer than they should have been). Based on our general disappointment, we skipped dessert and asked for our bill. 2 courses each, a bottle of fairly good white (which we hadn't finished so asked to be sealed for taking home) and a couple of soft drinks came to £130!!! You pay for what you get, and a great lunch is worth every penny, but this was a mediocre lunch at best. Their price is on a par with what we have willingly paid for lunch at other restaurants in our locality - The Bay Horse Inn, at Bay Horse, and The Inn at Whitewell - yet Gibbon Bridge falls way short of its rivals in both standard of food and service.

Went with friends for Christmas Lunch at our favourite restaurant in the a Ribble Valley. It was a beautiful day travelling over Jeffrey Hill looking down on Chipping and Gibbon Bridge in all its splendour. Then followed by a delicious lunch with excellent wine and service. The Hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and it always exudes a homely feeling!

Met some friends her for lunch. The hotel is rather tucked away but very pleasant once you have wound your way along the country lanes. There was quite a good choice on the menu but three of us chose the cheese soufflé for starters. It was tasty enough but a little on the heavy side. The other friend had the special of avocado with prawns and said it was very good.Again for mains three chose the salmon special. It did not seem to be that special. There seemed to be one roast potato served with it but side dishes of red cabbage, boiled potatoes and carrots were also served. I chose the chicken. This was moist and serve on linguini with a tomato sauce. It was fine but nothing to rave about. For dessert two chose the hazelnut meringue and another the chocolate fudge cake. The meringue was chewy and whilst this is not a complaint it meant it was difficult to cut.So overall the food was OK but not special. The service was good, polite, efficient and they did not rush us and we lingered for a long time as it was the opportunity of a good catch up.

Without booking I called with an elderly friend hoping I could treat her to afternoon tea at this lovely venue. We were very warmly welcomed and invited into a lovely lounge area with open log fire and very comfy settees. The very kind (Italian?) waiter brought our tea and coffee served in silver tea and coffee pots with cold and hot milk and home made biscuit. All for £6.00 +.! I wish to commend the staff and Janet for the inspiration and development of this very beautiful place of hospitality. It made an elderly lady very happy at a difficult time. Thank you

It had been a few years since our last stay here and we were really looking forward to it. The menu is varied though not huge and all beautifully cooked and presented. Unfortunately there was no room for afters, too full! I had a starter which is unusual for me, but they sounded so appetising. I plumped for the mackerel and it was so moist and delicious, my husband tried the goats cheese and he was very pleasantly surprised! The steak he ordered had a supplement and he thought it a tad more medium than rare, but it looked rare to me, was very tasty though. As quail was on the menu and something I had never tried before I thought I'd give it a whirl, wow, it was delicious. All fresh seasonal vegetables too. We went for a bottle of Primitivo wine and it was so smooth, probably worked out cheaper than having a couple of glasses each! Drinks are always expensive in hotels so you have to take that into consideration. Waiting staff were polite and friendly and fairly unobtrusive, well done. Breakfast was a buffet style with fruit, cereals, yogurt and full English to choose from. A nice personal approach by the owner as she came to have a chat and see that our food was okay. A downside to the evening was the room was very hot, even with the window open and heater off I didn't sleep well. Walls between rooms not very thick, next door someone was coughing and as my husband snores loudly, they probably heard him! Bed was comfortable and rooms clean. A crack in the ceiling near extractor fan in the bathroom needed attention, but maintenance is difficult with guests in. Would defiantly go back when we have saved up again, it's such a beautiful part of the country, especially with the leaves turning at this time of year. If you get the chance, pay a visit, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

We ate here in July and were so impressed we returned with American guests to enjoy a little of English "country house" ambience and cuisine. The whole thing is just so professional yet seems so laid back. A lovely lounge for pre-dinner drinks and post dinner coffees. Wonderful food and excellent table service. Beautiful gardens for a stroll (on the right day!). You really need to book in advance and they open only for strictly limited hours. The menu is not extensive but there's bound to be something you'll enjoy. Good wine list and full bar service without breaking the bank.Couldn't fault it!

Whenever we go, this place is always busy no matter what day or time. This is simply because of the quality of the service and products. today, we had a sandwich. Mine, chicken salad with onion marmalade was simply delicious (who would think of marmalade in a chicken salad sandwich)? The other sandwich was prawn salad which I'm told was also delicious. Both sandwiches were at least an inch thick and no, that was not mostly salad, but chicken and prawn. My cappuccino was simply lovely. Add to this the staff are always friendly and accommodating, what else can anyone want?

6 of us ladies of leisure had breakfast in here this morning. Have been here a few times and they never disappoint. Food and service is consistently good. Run by a lovely friendly family. We all opted for omelettes ( different fillings) and they were perfect. Good coffee as well. Will be making this a more regular haunt . Can’t recommend enough

Poor. Used to be a lovely Pub to have a Roast Dinner in, especially on the Sundays the Classic Cars turned up! Today's Roast Beef was frankly nothing of the sort, tough, stringy and tasteless - I suspect it wasn't the days Roast at all, but some pre-packaged 'Roast Beef' slices. Apart from that, it's a nice, friendly, local Pub.
