We booked for a family lunch yesterday. Restaurant is lovely and staff were very welcoming. Our starters were amazing, absolutely delicious. Though the roast was very average in my opinion. We had roast pork which stated it came with stuffing. It wasn’t on the plate so we had to ask for that. The lady did bring out 2 stuffing balls but we had 3 roasts. Carrots were very hard. Very average for the price I would say. We did have a lovely time and we will definitely be back, but will just probably go for something else other than a roast next time.

We were on short break in Amesbury visiting local sites . While walking into town after day site seeing we decided to eat in the George restaurant. The ambiance was amazing. It was a Wednesday evening and could have been busy Saturday night . The staff fitted the 6 of us in . They were polite, friendly and welcoming. The food was lovely. Talking to our very friendly waitress we discovered that food all cooked by talent chief. Loved the pie of the day . Everyone was so accommodating. The manager was outstanding. Having been to many chain restaurants it was refreshing and enhancing of experience to see such an experience, confident and service led manager. All the staff look happy and supported. He was talking to customers, servicing diners and serving drinks ,cleaning tables , checking in guests. He led by example which all staff followed. All of us found food , drinks ,atmosphere etc to be perfect. Thank you .

A pleasant enough stay with the majority of staff welcoming apart from one or two sour faced individuals at breakfast, not welcoming, abrupt and lacking in customer service skills. Warms were a little too warm which I appreciate is difficult to control given the age of the building and lack of air conditioning. Nice hotel though

This hotel definitely looks different to when I was last here, it now has a warm feeling and looks good. There were quite a few of us here today and on our table, we ordered three separate meals. Eggs Benedict, which they both agreed was lovely and well presented. I ordered avocado on Sourdough with scrambled eggs (should have been poached, but I had mine changed). My food was very nice, just wasn't very hot; admittedly there were a lot of meals ordered. Finally, a bacon sandwich which was thoroughly enjoyed. We all ordered hot drinks, and all got a shot glass with three maltesers inside, a great touch. I would recommend 🙂

The best part of this was Paige, who provided a great service. The other waitress should get an attitude check with her only interaction with us being that the children need to seat back down, if it wasn’t for Paige at beginning I would say the places is not kid friendly. The food was bit over priced for what was given, which was bland, I could have gotten better in the Wetherspoon around the corner. In short, look after Paige and improve the food and other staff.

Never have I ever been made to feel so unwelcome. We almost walked straight back out. We were so looking forward to coming after seeing pictures of the remodel. Inside looked incredible and they have done amazing with the decor. We booked for brunch, 3 adults and a toddler. Only arrival met by two members of staff who barely gave us a hello. Told us we had no reservation, then one rolled her eyes and said “see I told you” we assumed she meant they had booking issues. They then just said again we had no booking. We then showed them our confirmation including a reminder sent. To which a lady huffed and said I will have to set a place. We were then seated near the bar area which was fine as next to the tree which was beautiful. Orders taken promptly but not once did the waitress smile. Was very short and abrupt with us. Totally ignore my toddler. Told they don’t even have kids menus which is crazy for a hotel/pub. I asked for a latte and that seemed like a lot of hassle. Waited 45mins for breakfasts, no staff around to ask for more drinks: one meal then arrived and the rest almost 10 mins later. The waitress has to be one of the most rudest and unwelcoming I have ever met. After speaking to friends it seems we have all had the same experience with Jackie. Should not work in hospitality when you quite clearly do not enjoy people. We were made to feel incredibly unwelcome and if we do decide to return, as like we said decor was lovely and the food was great …. We will not stay if we receive the same treatment

Arrived to grab some brunch with my partner and only two customers sat in the bar area having some tea. I ordered couple of coffees and brunch waited 20 mins then the bar staff came back to say there was no muesli left and that the coachman’s breakfast I ordered couldn’t be achieved with hash browns instead of chips because the chef was not subsidising even tho he had the hash browns 🤦🏼wtf… the menu is very very limited as it is, so if a couple of choices are not available then there isn’t much anyone can order. Obviously don’t want to make any money as the chef said give them a refund apparently if we don’t want to eat anything else🙃 I took the refund and walked out disappointed that such a lovely looking place has poor service and possibly a chef who decides if he’s prepared to accommodate customers or not?? Being a chef and a successful business owner I can honestly say it’s absolutely appalling service and attitude all round so definitely will not be using this place again.

We booked for 7 p.m. and arrived then I felt it a shame that no staff greeted or acknowledged us, although they were busy. I suggested that we just went to sit down after a while , then the polite wine waiter seemed to hear us and checked our booking and showed us to a table. The acoustics are great in the lovely refurbished dining room , which is cleverely arranged to give a sense of various private alcoves etc. I thought the menu was slightly limited for dinner with brunch dishes not available for dinner but taking up space . The wine menu was large but perhaps in a booklet format would be easier to read than a large sheet. My choice of vegetarian main meal, lemon risotto, was not available so I was able to have a starter instead. My husband's lamb was crisp which he did not enjoy so much. He felt portions were light and he was surprised to have to pay extra for chips The staff were helpful and service was mainly very good, even if I had to reorder a glass of wine which did not appear. We had coffee outside in the cortyard after the meal, which was very pleasant.

I think we must of arrived near the end of service as they didn’t have 2 beef dinners ordered, and when they were changed to chicken, they could only offer 1 chicken and 1 pork, which was absolutely fine, and they even removed 1 meal from the bill. Most people would complain about this, but the staff were attentive and let us know as soon as they could of the food issue. When the meals arrived they were well portioned and the food was cooked to a “proper pub lunch” standard (which is a great thing). Definitely recommend the Sunday lunch...just make sure you get in earlier!!!

Lovely hotel although a few issues I’m sorry to say, rooms could use a freshen up,stayed 2 nights, dinner on Friday night was not up to scratch, staff didn’t seem to know the menu, salad missing, mushrooms in cream sauce on sour dough bread turned out to be breaded deep fried mushrooms in a pot, when queried it became deep fried breaded mushrooms covered in a cream sauce on thick white bread,no sauces offered, was told the chef was not in,they did however offer us free pudding which was nice,Saturday morning breakfast however problems continued, the hotel was full,no staff in dining room to help, when eventually I found a server and enquired how to order breakfast I was told they were very busy and that a party of 23 had turned up Friday night and we had to wait until they had been served, not impressed, when we received our breakfast items again were missing, was rectified upon query,no cutlery on tables,no sauces,no staff available to assist diners,I actually burnt myself on the coffee machine, pastries that had been promised on the menu were sat in the kitchen to dry out for the following morning, but all that said the staff were helpful when approached with problems, but do feel these things need to be addressed, don’t know if I would stay here again, the noise from the pub and nightclub across the road was awful,no double or secondary glazing to muffle the sound.

We all ate in the restaurant and all had different items from a limited menu, however the food was hot, portions were ample and the quality was superb. A family gathering for 10 people, arrived at 1pm. On arrival, walking past the carvery station, not really much to get exited about, 8 or 9 roast potatoes, Pork, over cooked Beef and Turkey, two greasy looking Yorkshire Pudding, and some un-appetizing looking veg, Carrots, Green Beans, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower in cheese sauce and a few leeks in a curdled in waterery looking cheese sauce. Just as well we all did not go at the same time, with in no time, out of spuds, yorkshires and most veg, they were certainly in no hurry to replenish, 10 - 15 minutes, when it was spuds were rock hard, Cauli cooked to death, Leeks in curdled sauce, and most of the veg they had run out of completely. Having to just eat something, it was not nice. Worse than Toby carvery on a bad day!! when it came to deserts, waitress ( when the hell did she come from) offered deserts, orders placed, she returned with a list of what they hadn't got!, god knows what was paid a head, but it seriously not nice. We went there on local recommendation. Its always been known to be hit and miss, today sadly very much a miss.

Having spent time looking for a 4 poster with en suite I was sure this was the place to stay ( how wrong i was ). I booked the bridal suite, Imagine my surprise when the keys was handed over after being told there was a boiler problem, but it should be sorted by 3pm and I got to our room and it was not the bridal suite. It was some crappy class room that looked grotty I went downstairs and said I booked the bridal suite, the response i got was not the one i wanted. He said that will be a problem. At this stage I was very upset as I had not told my wife about the room which I had booked.I was told if the boiler blew up it would be the bridal room that it blew up in. I went outside as i was to upset to even speak to the manager. I rung booking.com and explained the situation, they where disgusted with the hotel as they had not even informed them about said boiler. My wife took over from this pojnt and went inside to give them rock all. The manager was embarrassed and quickly pointed out he had not worked there for long. When my wife came out for the last time she realised it was owned by the chapman group, 3which spoke volumes. Anything to dop with the chapman group is dirty grotty and just plain awful . We did find anohter Hotel which was 100 times better. I would not recomend this place to any1. Avoid this place at all costs. Not professional and there was and air of we dont give a dam.The manager tries to palm me off with, " well you didnt tick the box that said we can move to another room". On what planet would someone be happy about moving to another room after booking the bridal suite. Very bad experience. There was a great selection of vegetables which were cooked beautifully, not hard, not overdone. Roast pork, beef, turkey or very tasty steak and kidney pudding tempted us. It seems there is a special price for OAP's which was very reasonable. No wonder one has to book as it is very popular. We shall certainly go there again!

This has got to be the worst meal I have ever had !!!! Ordered steak medium rare, what turned up after waiting over an hour was a cremated steak and cold chips. I asked the waitress who was obviously too busy considering the size of the party (20) she had actually got the orders wrong. Complained about the meal and told I did not have to pay which was fine with me. Another meal turned up, this time a hot meal but it was now 9.30 and I had gone past eating. The steak was literally moving on the plate too. The restaurant side of the hotel was empty apart from our party, I now know why. How unfortunate. Such a great pub let down by very average quality food and staff who obviously have never been taught the meaning of service. I took a group of 7 here for dinner and got the feeling we were too much bother for them. Plates of food were sort of dumped on the table and we sorted out who ordered what. The shrimp cocktail, we'll tgat was a bit if a throw back to the UK of the 1970s. A sad piece of lettuce, a spoon of frozen shrimp, drowned in thousand island dressing. Yuck. Perhaps new management might help. Shame, as the pub has some terrific historical features. Oh well, will know for next time.....

Located in the centre of Amesbury, with its own car park, which does get full. If so park at Church Street car park 100 metres away. Large traditional feeling bar & dining room.Very standard range of pub dishes at cheapish prices. Quality is distinctly average, as is service. The beers available are all the common main brands, but no local real ales.

Easy pub food, a variety of pies, mostly with mashed potatoes and peas. A nice choice of beers, less of ciders. The staff seem to be new, but are friendly and helpful.

Although this old, dull pub was nearly deserted on the Saturday afternoon we visited, the sticky patina of spilled beer, both on the floor and the chairs around the bar, implied a previous evening of boisterous glasses - as well as inefficient housekeeping. Maybe at night it’s the pool table and the TV sport that drags people in. For certain it wouldn’t be the quality of the beers.

We went for lunch with relatives on Saturday. The bar was quite busy, but this adds to the experience. We had sandwiches, which were very nice. The beer was good too.

This establishment has the simple charm of an old English pub and serving up the usual fare for such an establishment. They had a slightly more varied menu than another place just around the corner. The bar tender was quite chatty and friendly. But in general, no major weaknesses for this restaurant, and no major positives either - just fits into the mould of an English pub.

No kitchen so therefore no restaurant. I wish they had notified us that the kitchen was being updated and wouldn't be opened until after we left. No food available so had to go to another place for a meal.

We called in here for an evening meal and having done so felt there were probably better places to have eaten in Amesbury. The place looks dated and a little dirty. The 'carvery' consisted of a mish- mash of meals and vegetables, none of which looked very appetising. I had liver, bacon and mash which was fine, the liver being very tender. My wife had fish and chips, listed as beer battered, but it was obviously a frozen fillet. Not great!

I stayed here for a couple of days so sampled the evening meals and breakfast a couple of times. They do a carvery type thing in the evening which just reminded me of how my dear old Gran used to cook and that's not a good thing....bless her. Everything was cooked to death snd was very salty. Maybe it had been out under to heat lamps for hours giving it this overcooked look ! You don't need to pop your teeth in that's for sure as its all pretty much the same mushy wet consistency. Very grim. The next evening I thought I would have a bar meal and avoid the carvery option. Just as bad, it looks like it's come straight from the freezer. Nothing fresh at all. Not good pub grub and I swear the yellow green peas came off the carvery as they were well beyond looking like anything attractive and had been cooked within an inch of their lives.Breakfast was no better, the cheapest sausages ever and on the second day I though I'd just have scrambled eggs. Well yellow rubber tasteless granules. I think I have seen similar in a wall cavity.I think if I'm in the area in future I will go elsewhere and avoid at all cost, possibly the poorest pub food in many years. In the defence of the place it was cheap but I would rather pay an extra few quid for a decent meal.

Having turned off the A303 in search of dinner (avoiding Little Chefs) we thought a good pub meal would be found at this charming looking old coaching inn. Oh dear. There is a room like a sort of 1970's dining hall that had a bizarre buffet-style selection of meats, watery veg and insipid sausages. We avoided this and opted for the pub, and took our seats under the romantic screen showing Sky sports. The food was Birds Eye and McCain specials - everything from the freezer to the microwave or fryer in one swift move. "Cajun" chicken was a barely cooked breast with flecks of pink remaining, dusted in a bit of paprika served with watery chips. My Dad's curly fries were at least edible. The fish & chips on the neighbouring table was so obviously a budget Bird's Eye job I couldn't face it.Pub food at its worst - avoid!

We booked carvery but everything was set out in the wrong order. Sweetcorn, green beans and overcooked sprouts on the same plate. Gravy in front of meat so you had to go round to put veg on then go back for gravy. Some of veg were cold others hot and undercooked, others overcooked

Me and my boyfriend went here for the Sunday Calvary with his family, I'm a vegetarian and I rang up before hand to check I could have a meat free roast. I had everything but the meats, they made a special effort to make me meat free gravy. I would never normally go to a Calvary as I don't eat meat (I felt I should go as my boyfriends family like it here) I'm soo glad I did. The food was perfect, very tasty and well cooked! This is one of the best roast dinners I've had out for a meal. It's cheap around £7/8 not bad as you can eat as much as you like. The decor is dated but that's what I'd expect from a cheap pub Calvary. The drinks did take a tad long to arrive but that's not the end of the world. I really enjoyed my meal as did the rest of the family who all eat meat. I would recommend to friends and family! Perfect for a Sunday roast!!

We have been to the george a few times mainly on sunday for a carvery, staff seem friendly but very slow with taking drink orders. Food is hit and miss you need to be early as we booked a table at 2 and they had hardly anything on offer so had to have pork, potatoes and carrots, they had run out of sausages wrapped in bacon, parsnips, sweet potato and cauliflower cheese. Price is reasonable just in need of a good clean up in all aspects.

Pub was empty, waiter/landlord still insisted no prams as it blocks pathways (plenty of space). Food arrived cold, “vegan” menu was unflavoured potato curry. Held off this review for 2 years but I had nightmares again.

Have stayed here 3 times before.also have stayed in numerous wetherspoons hotels and recommended them to everyone.i have to say we were quite disappointed this time.the staff were very helpful but this hotel needs a serious makeover.our room although bed and very quite wasn't the best.air con not working although we had a heater which was sufficient heating the room.and in all fairness the lovely guy who checked us in told us about it and said if we needed another heater to let him know.towel heater didn't work and tv lost tv channels!!!.OK if you wanted to watch kids cctv.the shower took a age to drain.sad to say but next visit to Salisbury won't be staying here unless major refurbishment.

A great lunch or casual dinner place is right in the supermarket! We had a great meal when we just went in for a quick snack after a successful food shopping trip. Kudos to the kitchen staff, especially JASON, who made us feel welcome and served up some great food (fish and chips, cheeseburgers, fries, hamburgers, chicken nuggets for the children). I'd go back any time we're shopping in Chippenham.

Misrepresentation. Cheap, but the room is light years from what we booked through the website. The images are really, REALLY not representative! The room smelled bad, the bathroom is from the 60's, there is mold and the shower has no pressure.
