We ate gorgeous food, next to an open fire and were greeted like old friends by staff who made us feel so welcome. Really good value for lovely food in a venue that we could have stayed in all day. Make sure you visit this one.

We visited the pub side of Eilean Iarmain while visiting Skye, and it was probably the best pub lunch I've experienced. The mussels were perfection, so fresh they smelled of the sea, in a broth that had us eating every last bit of bread just to get to the broth. The atmosphere of the pub was so cheerful, we decided that we need to come back to try dinner. A lovely little place

Well, first of, thanks for serving us lovely alcohol and being open on New Years Day... but seriously when there is literally no where else to eat and you refuse to serve food because the bar is 'too loud to hear orders' across a sodding bar therefore 'too dangerous to take orders' you can get it round yourself.Oh aye 'full capacity' you said maybe a few less toddlers in the bar and there'd be more space.Rest of the year this pub is probably great but when in need seems like they suck balls.Me and all my friends think you are super uncool and we're only going to come back if we absolutely choaking for a drink.

We tried this place as we were staying in a nearby holiday cottage. It seemed a good place to have a lazy Sunday lunch after a long journey the days before. I had originally tried to book a table but was told they didn't accept dogs in the restaurant or bar but we might be OK outside. It was a lovely day so we decided to sit outside anyway but I was surprised when I went to the bar to order to see a family in there with a dog!! I didn't get a welcome but the staff did eventually admit it was a day when everything was going wrong and we were bang on 12 so service was only just beginning. The were friendly enough but just distracted and disorganised. Soup for our starter was a bit light in terms of portion and not very hot. My squat lobster in garlic butter was a bit thin on the butter. Another dish of langoustines was OK but underwhelming. We had much better simple seafood at half the price at the Oyster Shed in Carbost. I think the bar would make a good drinking spot but the food was below par.

Bookings not taken so we got in there before the crowds. Diners around us either relieved to be sitting down and ordering or looking a little concerned at the bar that they may not be able to have a table. Our food came in good order-enjoyed by all-chat from staff an added bonus.Ensure you are there nice and early - we were there mid week and there were many tourists seeking a meal all at the same time. Will be back.

Cibo fantastico servito in due sale molto British.

First impressions were good. We were taken to the sitting room area while our table was being prepared. This was very pleasant for a pre-dinner cocktail. However after this things started to go downhill. We were led to a dining annex which is very basic - although there were several empty tables in the main dining area. The menu had a limited selection and the dishes were nothing special. Finally we were forgotten in this annex and I had to go and find someone to pay the bill.

Dined out here during recent stay on Isle of SkyeBeautiful locationStaff very friendly, chatty and engaging.Somewhat restricted menu but will cater for any specific food allergies/ intolerances.Cannot fault our meal and there is no sense of being rushed through to accommodate a second sitting .I would certainly book ahead as it is part of the hotel and is used by guests as well as locals/ others.3 courses will set you back 35 pounds ( excluding drinks ) which I felt was very reasonable for the quality. Highly recommend and it has the added bonus of being attached to a quaint pub where one can retire to post- dining to partake in after -dinner drinks in a casual/ engaging setting. I had a sampling of the Gaelic Whiskey blends which was a great way to end my evening.Great find++++

We were recommended to have lunch there. Basically it was a good pub lunch. Food was nicely presented with good salad etc. Service was good and staff helpful and attentive. What made it a tremendous experience was the weather. The view from the hotel's separate single-storey accommodation is stunning.

A beautifully situated restaurant serving first class food. The menu is limited but only because it serves freshly cooked food. The menu is changed every day. After we did visit the pub of the hotel we decided that we would give the restaurant a chance also as we were looking for a bit more quite dinner and did not want to drive to a place. The food was also very good and tasty even if the choice was limited to the 3 course menu with three options on each course. The selection in the pub is actually bigger which is a bit a shame. The overall experience was still quite negative because the service was simply not available. The restaurant was almost empty and still you could hardly got hold of one of the two persons. It seemed that they were not really interested in selling anything on top. We were never asked if we would like more water or if we would be interested in a second bottle of wine.It is a shame as the restaurant itself is quite nice with a great view and a very good kitchen. There would be much more possible.

Isle Ornsay, Sleat is a treat for the eye, the ear, the tongue and the nose. A fairy tale pretty setting at the edge of the sea on the southwestern peninsula of the Isle of Skye. A manner house of old looking out at the Lighthouse. The gardens are gorgeous, much less formal than a city setting would require, perfect for the place. There is a small distillery of Gaelic Whiskey [scotch; blended]; a charming shop called Floridiah which sells fine Scottish woolens [not hand made, but great value for the price of a gorgeous garment]; silks, cashmeres, etc. Less tat and more lovely Scottish-inspired items one is likely to see worn by actual [albeit only relatively rich] Scots. The hotel has a charming restaurant as well as the pub in which we thoroughly enjoyed a good Scottish country lunch. The cheese and beer/ales were local and liberally portioned; the menu while limited to fewer than a dozen choices, offered excellent quality and decent prices. We really enjoyed the venison stew, the game terrine, the haggis and the cheeses. Salad was good variety of interesting crispy greens. The cider on tap was perfect with my lunch. It was a blustery day and we were wearing tons of clothing to keep warm, so the whiskey, the woolens and the stew and brew were perfect for us.Children under 18 are not allowed into Scottish pubs.

Our B&B hostess recommended this as a place to stop for lunch depending on our timing and thankfully our timing was perfect. We had lunch in the bar as the restaurant was not open however it wasn't busy and the young ladies were very helpful. They have daily specials in addition to the menu and you order and pay at the bar. They bring the food to you. My husband ordered the venison burger from the menu and enjoyed it and I ordered 1/2 a lobster from the daily menu. A whole lobster was also offered. The 1/2 lobster was baked with a garlic herb butter and was sweet and tender accompanied by the best salad I have had in Scotland and French fries. I am embarrassed to say I did not realize they caught lobster here but what a pleasant surprise.

Had heard mixed reports but the setting is magical and we went with open mind. Cash only as Bar had no ability to take credit cards, staff on duty clearly not used to being in Bar - willing, but very stressed. Watched other people arrive and be told that the drinks they wanted were not available and one couple sat with 2 glasses of water for at least half an hour before getting their food! We ordered 3 oysters each - which were large and creamy and GREAT while we waited for our main meals. Kitchen took delivery of fresh fish while we were there and the order for halibut we had given was queried by waitress in saying "The halibut has changed to Sea Bass - that'll be alright?" It was not a great way of putting it - they could have said, the halibut was not available and we have just got some lovely Sea Bass. That would have been alright. Most of the Kitchen staff seemed to come on duty as we were about to leave! The food was VERY GOOD - the service - front of house etc. was disastrous.I did notice an advert for staff in the local press that day and I think they were also suffering from lack of organisation. I heard from someone local that they had lost a long serving lady manager, so perhaps it was a build up of problems. Hope they get their credit card line up and running as most of us do not carry much cash with us these days. Makes one realise how much we are at mercy of the technology!Did pop into Hotel as we were considering staying another time, but again everything in disarray. It looked like Breakfast was still being cleared (about 2p.m.) and there was no sign of any staff. Not sure if we will return.

We had looked forward to dining at this restaurant based on Trip Advisor Reviews. When we entered the restaurant, we were shown into the lounge, where there was no fire lit, and it looked a bit shabby compared to previous descriptions. The waitress took our drink orders, and we had to wait about 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. We were seated in a dark corner, although there were window tables available with lovely views of the water. We had ordered wine, which was in a bucket on the table, but server never came to pour the wine, or water during the entire meal! My husband also ordered another glass of wine with his entree, and needed a steak knife for his steak, both of which we had to ask for. The food was absolutely delicious throughout the meal. However, after dinner, we were not asked if we wanted coffee, and after waiting another 30 minutes to pay our check, our taxi driver arrived, with no servers to be found. We had to go into the kitchen to find someone to take our credit card. Finally, after another 10 minutes, the manager appeared, was very apologetic, and told us to go ahead, and did not charge us for the meal. What ashame that such great food should be overshadowed by such terrible service! Thanks to the manager for trying to make it up to us.

Our party of 6 booked a table at this restaurant for dinner following a long journey. On arrival we were greeted by attentive staff and shown into a lounge and given menus. Things got off to a difficult start as our wine was taken to the table and we were told that we could not sit in the dining room until our order had been taken. So we had to make do with 5 chairs for 6 of us. I think the problem was perhaps down to the inexperience of the staff but we came close to walking out. Fortunately, when we did get into the dining room the quality of the food made up for the faltering start although one of our number had a portion of turbot for a main course which was really amuse bouche in size. Price including four bottles of wine and tip - £390 which represented value for the standard.

We had dinner at the restaurant at this hotel. There was only a 5 course taster menu available, which I was told when I booked a table. The price was moderate, but the size of some of the courses was tiny, even for a taster menu, and the amount of vegetable on the small side. The waiting staff were friendly and reasonably knowledgeable, but tended to reach across you at times to serve the other guest, when they could have avoided doing this. We enjoyed a splendidly prepared dinner the first night of our stay. It started with drinks and an appetizer and placing our dinner selections while seated in the library area. This became the sequence of dinner presentation in most of the places at which we stayed subsequently. In the dining room we were expertly served by “Victor”, a very engaging young man who together with the manager kept two tables of 6 and 4 tables for 2 expertly serviced. Great food, great presentation. Our experience here frankly exceeded in every respect our dining experience at the highly-rated Kinloch Lodge Hotel, located nearby. After dinner we hoped for a pub experience, and on a Saturday night the pub was full and under full steam—literally. It must have been about 85 moist degrees in the room, and we beat a hasty retreat, joining two other couples in the library for drinks and conversation. A very pleasant evening. Breakfast the two mornings we were there were also wonderful.

However the food was good quality and well presented. The staff were very friendly and the manager made a point of chatting about our trip, however the waitresses were a little stressed and forgot our wine order. Location couldnt be better on an idyllic small harbour. Prices weren't unreasonable for the quality and the ambiance - we paid about £50/head for two courses, including aperitif, wine, coffee and whisky.

We were spending the last night of our Scottish break in the south of Skye and we found this restaurant online. The menu looked extensive and suitable for us all, even "fussy Karen" who we were with who has a list of food "no goes" as long as your arm!I called to book a table and we arrived and had a drink in the bar. The restaurant manager bought us the menu and I have to say we were disappointed and very shocked. Choices on offer were a £35+ tasting menu (5 courses all dished from the main menu) or a core menu which had 3 or 4 choices for each course, starters mains and puds.We looked for about 5 minutes and all decided that there was nothing on the menu we fancied so decided to eat from the bar menu. The food was actually very good but there was a band setting up for live music at 9pm and they insisted on keeping the back door open so it was pretty cold sitting there while we ateSo I’d say good food, very friendly and attentive service but the menu was so different to what is on the website that I’d say it’s a misrepresentation of what is on offerI'd go again for bar food but wouldn’t take a chance on such a limned restaurant menu

My husband and 8 associates from the Middle East stayed and ate(?) in the hotel. Whilst the location is beautiful and the hotel is nicely presented, the restaurant itself, although nicely presented also, the same cannot be said for the quantities of food. Extremely small portions, nouvelle cuisine, at an exorbitant price. It is hotel policy that they would not serve the bar menu in the dining room which seemed strange to everyone in the company. Would not recommend coming here unless you are a not very hungry poser!

This is a lovely place, right on the harbor with great views. The food is excellent and the beer/wine/whisky good as well. Only problem is the place is quite small so can easily get very busy. If you set seated next to the fire it is very nice. We had lunch and dinner on two separate trips. Menu isn't huge, but plenty there for most. Seafood was excellent according to my family. Haggis Pakoras and Haddock (fish and chips) was my favourite.

Poor quality from start to finish. We arrived just after 5.00 for an early dinner. Barmaid was more interested in showing her colleague a photo on her phone than serving us our drinks request. Ordered our food and asked for it to be served outside as it was such a beautiful evening. We were told no, that they wouldn't serve us outside. Assuming a seat inside, it was immediately apparent that the place needed a good clean. I have no problems with rustic, but at least offer clean rustic. The remnants of someone's lunch still remained smeared over the table. Someone's crisps were strewn over the floor and bits of rubbish lay about the place. Two minutes after sitting down we could hear the chef and the barmaid shouting about the fact that the mussels that my wife had ordered had ran out at lunchtime and should have been taken off the specials board. Barmaid arrives at our table to inform us that mussels are no longer available and stands there just staring at us. Okay, would you mind bringing us a menu then so we can choose something else please? We order another dish eventually. Another group arrive and ask the newly arrived assistant manager to have their dinner outside? No problem at all he replys!?!?! Someone clearly didn't get the memo!! Food eventually arrives, Lamb Shank which was cold in the middle with the smallest spoonful of mash I've ever seen. My wife's fish and chips would have been easier to eat with a chisel given the quality of the batter. Through the entire experience, the entire bar's content of visitors was treated to the loud and over-bearing voice of the barmaid drowning out everything else. Communication with the kitchen was particularly ear-splitting! The young manager in charge clearly has limited experience and little or no eye for detail! Just because you put on a suit doesn't make you a manager! Try looking at things from a customer's perspective rather than worrying about your social life which has absolutely no requirement to be shared with your customers, try concentrating on their needs rather than your own. In short, the food was below average and offered no value for money; the service was appalling; communication does not exist between departments, management is weak and the place is filthy. All of this would NEVER have been allowed in years gone by! Sir would be turning in his grave if he knew what was going on. I'm not a tourist, I live and work in the area and am frankly just appalled if this is the standard we are delivering to our visitors. Someone needs to get a grip on this quickly before the season really gets under way. I cannot and will not recommend this outlet to anyone, and am unlikely to return anytime soon. It is such a waste of a beautiful location and enormous potential, but it's currently on a steep and slippery slope.......

We ate here last week...wonderful location, lovely premises with big log fire.We ordered the 6 course taster menu - there wasn't much else on the menu other than the items on this menu - £40 a head. Taster indeed....for 40 quid, the least you require is that you are not hungry at the finish of the meal...and the problem with this restaurant is that there it is so remote that there is not a kebab shop on the way home to fill yourself up. All the portions were so small that one had to meditate on each course for a bit, rather than just larrup it down in a single mouthful, which wouldn't have been difficult with most of them. The "main" of the menu was sea bass....all of about 2 ounces of it...and a tiny mismash of creamed potatos. What is wrong with you people...attempting to be french and having little or no vegetables on offer.I made a decision ..a final decision...that I will never ever ever again eat in one of these poncy restaurants...fine dining my ar*e.....more a scam...call me a peasant but I do feel bad that I am encouraging this kind of rip-off by eating in their establishments. This place also did bar food, which we discovered afterwards. Next evening we went to Plockton and there, for a third less, we had one of the best meals we have ever eaten...top class quality, and quantity was amazing...8 large scallops for a main course...and vegetables too.

We came here a couple of times last year and found both the food and the atmosphere great. The hotel/pub/restaurant has a distillery and the whisky is lovely - £20 for sale bottle of Macnamara rum finish - delicious. This year we we didn't love it as much. The young woman behind the bar appeared really stressed although it was difficult to discern the cause. The service was pretty slow and the food not as good as last time, although the portions were still fairly generous. My partner had Thai curry with rice and said that the rice was still a bit crunchy in the middle. I had pork loin with roast sweet potato and butter bean sauce. The butter bean sauce was really hot, but the pork and potatoes were a bit lukewarm. The location is beautiful, and perhaps they were having an off night. I would return, but not with excitement (except for the whisky!).

A Monday night and we were the only ones there but that with a table in front of the fire it felt like we were having a meal at home. My only one slight niggle was that the normal menu was not available and it was a 5 course taster menu. Whilst the food was good I think that should have been explained when making the booking. My partner and I came here for a Valentines Meal as on their website it states "the most romantic hotel in Great Britain and Ireland" and that it was.Upon walking in you are greeted by inarguably the most efficient and friendly staff. They have a "Sitting room" where you go to whilst pondering the menu to then be served a complimentary glass of champagne ( I presume this is only for valentines but none the less still appealed to us). There were a number of roaring fires which literally added to the mood of the place, as soon as we walked through the door it just welcomed us with open arms. The candle light on the tables and the fires were just so homely and inviting. The food was excellent and the presentation the same. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a romantic dinner for two because they certainly know how to accommodate for ANY calibre of clientèle. ;-) the only reservation you should have is the one you book over the phone! What really impressed us was when the waitress came round with a single red rose and gave it to my partner and wished us a happy valentines. Cherry on top of the cake. Thanks to all of the attentive and efficient staff and for really making our night so special. We are truly grateful.

Three of us ate here while diving in Skye. Busy Pub. A band set up at 9.30 to entertain a wedding party. Shared a plate of lagoustine between 3 as a starter. Then two of us went for the special Pork Cheek and Loin and the other Venison. All very tasty. My main was so delayed, because of a mix up by one of the waitresses, that we got a dram, at the end of the meal, on the house. We all then had different desserts. My Creme Brulee was delicious. So, all good. Listened to the band while sipping whisky. Will happily come back here next time I'm in Skye.

The restaurant for the hotel and the Pub share the same kitchen. If you eat in the hotel you'll get rolls with your mean and will pay a little more for the service. If you eat in the Pub, you order at the Bar and they bring the food to you. Either way, you're eating the same food. What's especially nice is that you don't have to order a prix fixe meal like you do at most of the hotel restaurants in Sleat. You can just have a salad or a bowl of their really good fish soup, a beer or a glass of wine. The fish and chips are really good but pay attention to the board where they write down what the boat has caught that day.....great oysters one day, little lobsters another. Have eaten here several times now and it's always got an upbeat atmosphere.

Stopped in for lunch here, food was perfectly adequate, but young suited man behind the bar was indifferent at best, rude at worst - had to be hauled out of the kitchen by a local to serve us, and then ignored us standing at the bar and another table waiting for their order to be taken in an otherwise empty pub.Luckily the Kiwi woman who replaced him was much friendlier.

Dined with friends in what promised to be a lovely evening in a beautifully set out resto but unfortunately it turned out to be memorable for the wrong reason! My wife's main course (chicken in a broth) was tough and tasteless and a young member of staff agreed to change it without question. 10 minutes later the replacement came which was the same condition but a different waitress (older) decided to argue that it was OK and processed to try and cut it up with my wife's fork on the table in front of us! She eventually took it away and my wife decided to forego the main course. To add to the upset The bill was wrong and was altered twice.A beautiful restaurant spoiled by some poor cuisine and a poor member of staff.

Having read the reviews we were excited about going for a meal here. We sat outside as we had a dog with us. The food was good but quite pricey for what it was. The Cesar salad was pretty mediocre with two anchovies tucked away. Soup and salad portion were quite small. Fish and chips good. Real Ale was very nice. In summary great location but didn't experience the wow factor.

I've eaten, with friends, in the Bar which has a pleasant atmosphere (particularly when the fire is lit) but both the lounge and the dining room areas are rather special, in their elegance and homeliness.I had fish and chips and my friend, the risotto-both coming as generous helpings. We didn't try a starter, nor a dessert (having stuffed our selves earlier) but with the excellent coffee came a generous selection of Scottish Tablet and a marshmallow concoction, which more than made up!The view from the window was stunning- as much Great Art as what we had seen in an art exhibition. just a few yards away. They were out of Merlot but the South African wine was very tasty.

We were staying in this beautiful area so ate dinner in the hotel bar 3 times during the week. Being on holiday, we were quite happy soaking up the atmosphere and weren't looking to rush through our meals, however, one night was spoiled with an exceptionally long wait for it (nearly an hour) with no explanation. Maybe understaffed, maybe lost the order, the hotel gets really busy at dinner time. Service could be tighter. On a positive note though, food delicious, fresh and the portion sizes filling. Thought the kids meals were great...not the usual greasy frozen rubbish. Haddock & chips and the homemade ice creams not to be missed. Staff very busy but friendly. Good to see a local bar in the highlands with locals in it. Would recommend and the setting lovely to sit out for a drink.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B host, and granted the hotel is lovely in a very picturesque setting. When we arrived around 6:15, we were told that dinner wasn't served until 6:30, which was fine as it gave us a bit of time to relax in their lounge and look over the menu. Shortly after 6:30, a waiter came by to take our orders from the lounge, but at this point, no one was being seated. About 10 minutes later, the waiter returned telling us that we had been given the wrong menu and that one of the entrees wasn't available. We ordered something else, and continued to wait in the lounge. By 7:00pm, everyone was still in the lounge waiting to be seated, a full 30 minutes after the restaurant was supposed to have opened.Once we were finally shown to our tables, the meal went off pretty well. The food was quite good and the wait times for the food itself weren't too bad. There were a few flubs with at least 3 different waitresses coming by the table during the course of the meal and an overall disorganization with them not knowing who had actually taken our order or forgetting to bring dessert menus.I would recommend the restaurant for the food, but again, disorganization among the staff running the establishment seems to be the theme. If you can look past this, however, it is still a decent place to have dinner.

A nice hotel in a lovely setting. We had a nice room with views both sides, although the view out to the sea was blocked somewhat by a tree. We found the staff very helpful and nice with the exception of a "female Basil Fawlty" who seemed to take a dislike to us for being vegetarian. From reading another review, it seems this woman cannot disguise her contempt for anyone to dares to be different. On the first night, after a long journey, we wanted to eat at the hotel but the one vegetarian option did not appeal to us, so we asked her if she could recommend somewhere else we could go. She duly did, but it was a very posh hotel with "fine dining" - a nice meal, but very expensive and long-winded and not really what we were after. Later we spoke to a nice man behind the bar who said they would be happy to make something else for us, so on the third and final night, we ate at the hotel. The aforementioned female informed us that the chef could also offer us "a couscous dish" and walked off before we could ask what else was in it. She came back later to take our order and we finally had the chance to ask, and she ROLLED HER EYES and walked off SHAKING HER HEAD! Even if she thought we were fussy, we were paying customers and her attitude was appalling. After our meal (risotto, nice but over salted) I politely suggested to her that the local Indian restaurant was very good and she could perhaps recommend that to future vegetarian visitors. She completely dismissed this and said she thought that restaurant was not very good, despite the fact that we had had a lovely meal there. Her attitude spoilt our stay at this otherwise very nice hotel. On checking out, the gentleman dealing with us asked if everything was alright with our stay and my husband mentioned the problems we had with this woman. He was kind enough to waive our modest bill, so we felt a bit better about it, but this woman is in the wrong job and we will not be returning because of her.

This is a review of the pub element of this establishment. We had visited last year and had an excellent meal. We decided to go back for lunch this year based on this experience. We all ordered the fish, chips and peas but when our meals arrived they were missing the peas. When we questioned this we were told that they had run out. We asked if there was an alternative to be told we could have salad. This came in a bowl between five of us. Unfortunately the food really was not up to scratch. The chips were undercooked and greasy and fish was just okay. We would be reluctant to return.

I went to the Isle of Skye to get away from it all and relax and my god it is the perfect place to relax. The views are amazing the walks are relaxing and people sell eggs outside their house (and they are very good). I stayed in a holiday apartment with my partner and her parents and we looked for somewhere that had beautiful views over beautiful food and I wasn’t prepared for the surprise that Eilean Iarmain had in store for me with their pub menu.Sadly as we went in off season the restaurant was closed so all that was available was the pub menu which wasn’t a disappointment. As we walked in on the chalkboard where a selection of starters, mains and deserts you could order which changed every day (apart from the deserts). On the menu was a selection of fresh seafood which is what you would of hoped for from a fishing island. The 3 course meal I enjoyed whilst there went like this. To start I ordered langoustines in a pesto dressing, they came whole and I had to break them apart with my hands which was perfect (partners parents got a big freaked out by it though) they were sweet and the pesto dressing was both sharp and full of fresh herbs, I also ordered the scallops in the same pesto dressing which were cooked to perfection and really were something special. For main I ordered fish and chips this was as you would expect fish and chips. The fish was massive but succulent, juicy and delightful the chips were nice as well. I wouldn’t say this is the best cooking I have ever witnessed but when you have such perfect ingredients on your doorstep the trick is more not to mess it up and the chef didn’t.Desert was a Tiramisu Crème Brule, which was basically a set custard with marsala wine mixed in before setting. Whilst not the most complex thing in the world the flavour combination worked well and the sugar top added needed texture to the dish so it was a nice finish. We then proceeded to stay in the pub as it was freezing, we outside sat around the log fire trying all the whisky’s they had and they had a lot. The parents left and went home half way through and after tasting about 8 whiskeys between us we decided to walk back to the apartment and it was pitch black... It was the sort of black where you can’t even see your hand in front of your face, having sent the parents back with the torch we had to work out how we would walk the 700 meters home.Luckily we had a camera so what we did was take a picture and as the flash went off quickly took 4/5 steps then stop take another picture quickly walk then stop, we did this all the way home whist a very tipsy off the whiskey which made it a lot funnier .Eilean Iarmain is good local food cooked well, yes they will not be appearing in the Michelin guide for their pub menu. However when you have been outside in the cold air all day and you want something hearty, fresh and well cooked in front of a open fire with a couple of whiskeys it’s ideal.http://jiarfood.blogspot.co.uk/

When our dinners were ready, we directed to one of the dining rooms were our meals were served with grace and dignity. Our meals were superb! A very special experience!!

Went for a bar lunch. Barman monosyllabic. I had the rib-eye steak which was well cooked and tasty but was accompanied by a single very thin slice of mushroom and half a grilled tomato which was not hot and very soggy plus a pile of tasteless anaemic chips. My wife had the lasagne which again was tasty enough but the advertised 'salad dressed with pesto" consisted of 5 small lettuce leaves and 5 wafer thin juliennes of pepper - and no pesto. At £32 to include a single soft drink each this was very poor value.

although the menu only had 3 choices for both starter, main and dessert courses (plus 1 special), all courses were excellent. We had scallops for starter and beef for the main. The presentation and tastes were to a michelin star restaurant quality. The restaurant had beutiful decour and was located in a stunning location. It is a little pricey compared with other restaurants but worth the extra.I would also recommend the whisky that they sold in their own shop, and is reasonibly priced for single malt.

My husband and I visited the pub side of Eilean Iarmain while visiting Skye, and it was probably the best pub lunch I've experienced. The mussels were perfection, so fresh they smelled of the sea, in a broth that had us eating every last bit of bread just to get to the broth. The tomato and onion tart was equally fantastic. The atmosphere of the pub was friendly and cheerful, the beers cold, and we decided that we need to come back to try dinner in the near future. What a lovely little spot!

Having eaten here before and had gorgeous experiences, we were thoroughly, thoroughly disappointed. Cold entrees and cold desserts leave the Chef free to cook one course - which was adequate at best. The food in Skye has improved over the last 10 years, but this restaurant is sadly lacking in any motivation to go with the trend. This is a pity as the hotel has all the ingredients to be successful, but is being let down by a mediocre, over-priced food. The food certainly did not justify its price tag. We will never eat here again and will never recommend it - as we have done in the past.

Monday, March 30, 2009 we took the ferry from Mallaig to Skye and started driving to Broadford on Skye. About halfway there we noticed a nice looking hotel building near the water, and a sign for the pub and restaurant. We made a u-turn and came back to the side road down to near the water's edge where we parked our car on this misty Monday noon, and went inside to have lunch. What a charming pub! It's a quaint pub room with a wonderful fireplace and it had a nice roaring peat fire. It's in a very nice looking inn that also has a dining room. We 4 American tourists, ages 55-60, on a self-drive week's tour of Scotland, felt like we had stepped back into Brigadoon. The atmosphere was warm, traditional Scottish, and wonderful. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. At a previous night's hotel we had bought teddy bears that the hotel (near Dumfries) had in the rooms and sells to guests, and we brought one of the bears in and propped him up at the bar, where the hostess prepared to pour him a Skye single malt whisky, and she and we had a great time with this.If you want an inn, restaurant and pub on Skye with a lot of atmosphere, you can't do better than the Eilean Iarmain. We have several very memorable moments in our mind of our wonderful trip to Scotland and recalling our lunch in the pub here is one of those highlights. They also have a very nice comfortable dining room, which wasn't open at Monday lunch. There are guest rooms, too, but we did not see these. But, stop by the Eilean Iarmain for a great pub lunch, and if you have a teddy bear named Tavish or Piper (our bears), let him join you at the bar for a wee dram.

Total anti children our three year old was chatting and we Heard the owners rude comment about him . Also we took her seat . The poor lass who runs hand and foot for this person is so friendly it's the only reason we stayed so long . Won't be back and won't recommend to any of our family and friends that visit the port . Maybe someone will take over the Caledonian and make it a hotel and pub again . We have been visiting the port for 40 years and haven't experienced the unfriendly signal we got from the castle hotel .
