One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had , it was absolutely amazing. Large portion with freshly roasted carrots and parsnips, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blanket and Yorkshire pudding. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We asked for some extra gravy and we were brought a whole jug which was perfect. So glad we came here and we will definitely be back next time we come to Beer!

Went for Sunday Roast and the lack of clientele should have told us what to expect. Very disappointing Sunday Roast. Roast potatoes were very disappointing. Beef was not freshly carved from a joint. Yorkshire puddings were out of a packet. Gravy was not made from meat juices. Vegetables were tasteless. It's a shame as we were really looking forward to our Sunday Roast. The Hotel need to improve their standards if they want to increase clientele.

Traditional start to our family holiday in beer is an evening meal at the dolphin. Unfortunately we won't be returning. Sticky table Sticky floor Sticky chairs Burnt garlic bread, see pic. Which was replaced by something at the other end of the scale ... soggy. Till system had lamb burger at £18.95 rather than advertised £13.95. This was efficiently rectified by member of staff and the specials board swiftly removed. Fish pie, anonymous slop, spotted one piece of fish. Minted lamb burgers, 13.95, where nice. Alas danny clinch is no longer the ower and it shows.

Went at 5pm for a family meal for myself, wife and two daughters at the Dolphin Hotel Lounge bar. We ordered rump steak and fish pie from the specials. Pizza, chips and beans and a sausages chips and beans were ordered from the kids menu. Fish pie was lovely. Steak was cheap, fatty, unseasoned and unevenly cooked. Kids pizza was spat out by my daughter saying it was spicy. Not believing her I tasted it and found it had a spicy burn to it. Wife tried it and agreed. Mentioned it to the waitress who spoke to "Richard" who I'm assuming is the chef. From the kitchen which was next to where we were sat, I could hear her get a completely unhelpful, blunt, defensive and dismissive response that was bordering on rude. She came back to say it was just a cheese and tomato pizza with no spice and maybe it was the oregano we could taste. No member of staff tried the pizza to verify. We didn't push the issue for the sake of sparing the waitress another ear bashing from the chef. All front of house staff were lovely. Portion sizes were sensible. Prices would have been fine if the food had been better. Lovely place to have a meal, nice homely vibe to the place, and would be worth visiting again when they get a decent chef employed.

We had to go to the Dolphin as it was the only place open on a Monday. The service was terrible: one chap on the bar taking all the food and drink orders so there was a long queue. The menu is typical pub grub, I had a rather nasty fish pie which had a few bits of rock hard fish in a lot of sauce covered with potato with too much cheese on the top. Would not go back if I could help it.

We were visiting Beer as we were staying up the road nearer the A35. Having wanted to stop for lunch we chose the Dolphin Restaurant however we walked in and were completely ignored by the waitresses - we had to hang around and find them to ask if it was somewhere we just find somewhere to sit. Then ordering our drinks my partner wanted a coke. We were advised it was Cola on tap, which she thought would be fine. The Cola came out and was as flat as a pancake. We mentioned it to the waitress who took it away to the bar person and then came back and told us it was fine. I'm not sure how she came to that conclusion without having tasted it!We both chose burgers from the menu which one was about £13 and the other was about £15. All I can say is Wetherspoons is better, and about half the price. This place has seriously overpriced food, and ZERO customer service. I certainly won't be touching this place again and definitely won't recommend it to anyone else! Waste of time and money!

We booked a meal here on our first night of a 7 day holiday with high expectations after reading the reviews. On arrival in a dull and rather depressing restaurant, we were led to our table and given two menus. After 15 minutes we were asked if we wanted drinks and promptly ordered explaining we were also ready to order our food. But we had to wait until the drinks arrived before the food order was taken. We ordered our starters and mains from quite a limited menu and our cutlery was delivered to the table by a young man. Another half hour passed by when a middle aged woman arrived with my main course! I told her we hadn't had our starters yet and she said 'well what do you want me to do....take it back or you can both have free desserts' I said we've been here 45 minutes already and she replied 'well you shoukf have said something...I've offered you free desserts what else can I do' We accepted the offer as a path of least resistance as the food was going cold and she was getting louder...it was becoming embarrassing. At tge end if the meal my husband politely offered some constructive feedback.....she was very defensive and continued to blame us for not saying anything. We asked for the manager and she replied 'I am the Manageress....it's obvious you're not going to come back so leave it at that' My husband pointed out her customer service skills left a lot to be desired and she replied ' well perhaps you shouldn't have come out while there's covid restrictions in place' UNBELIEVABLE. She was right about one thing, we definitely won't be going back.

Had been recommended to us, so had high expectations and booked in advance. The food was excellent, simple, tasty and well presented. Staff were initially very friendly and polite. All was going well for a 5 star review. The waitress / manager came to collect our main meal plates and said she would give us a few minutes before bringing the dessert menu. Shortly afterwards a next round of drinks were brought. About ten minutes later the same waitress / manager came to our table and abruptly said “the table was needed as booked after us so she would bring the bill”. We were stunned, where were the dessert menus she said she would bring? We decided to pay the bill and leave, leaving no tip (not something I like doing). Will be thinking twice before going again. The down side is being deliberately overcharged for specific wine by one bar man on several occasions. When confronted about it told complete and utter lies then tried to backtrack!!!Ask for a till receipt if ordering wine because if you ask for Pinot Grigio you get charged for something more pricey and then get told that is what you have been drinking when you have seen it being poured out of a Pinot Grigio bottle!!!!Beer is a lovely village and the barrel of beer pub is great.

We took advantage of the “Eat out to Help out Scheme” on numerous occasions all bills were calculated automatically expect in The Dolphin Hotel in Beer Devon. We had our lunch and we asked for our bill and paid, we realised that the discount was not on our bill. We asked the young lady if we could have a refund or do the transaction again. The young lady went off to find out and then came back said “no”. We asked to speak to the owner of The Dolphin Hotel, the owner also refused to give us a refund. This seems unfair because we asked 3 different people who were waiting the table if The Dolphin Hotel was taking part in the “Eat out to help out Scheme”. Yes we were told yes on three different occasions, The Dolphin Hotel website said that they were part of the scheme and they had a poster up outside the Hotel, which said that they were part of the scheme. We felt like this must be a mistake and we continued to ask for the discount. Then what happened next is totally bizarre the owner of the hotel BANNED my husband, myself and my whole family from The Dolphin Hotel for asking for the discount. Bizarrely the owner said “we didn’t get the discount because we needed to ask for it at the point of transaction. When we did ask for the discount we were BANNED. All this seems ridiculous from an organisation which is supposed to provide a service to people especially after lockdown and covid-19.

Visited this restaurant a few times in the last month. The staff and the ‘landlord’ were rude. When the restaurant closed, and as soon as we left the door, the landlord slammed the door behind us. This was only the first thing that happened. The next time we came here, a staff member came around to the table and whispered to us that it’s last orders, when we replied pardon as we didn’t hear her we received a obnoxious reply which was LAST ORDERS. No manners or customer service. Soon after this, I went to order drinks at the bar and the staff member replied quite rudely, “What d’you want?”. I didn’t order my drink after receiving that reply. All I wanted was another drink before closing time, of which they dismissed 20 minutes before closing time, as if it was a hardship to do before this time. If anyone is looking to visit or use this restaurant, please do be warned that customer service isn’t great, and are also made to feel as if you’re an inconvenience.

We had the food asked for bill and payed then noticed no discount. Landlord response was we did not mention it at the till. We payed at the table and no mention of asking for the discountAt that time was said..What follows was incredible. A very badtempered landlord then tells me I’m banned and so is my whole family. Half hour of total Argie bargie followed fighting my corner .Now this landlord told lies to me which he quickly rebuked at the bar Bet his reply to this will be full of untrue facts and a dishonest statement!

Food is good and fair value - but the policy on gift vouchers is harsh. We were given a £100 voucher by an American friend. My wife and had dinner and a couple of glasses of wine cost £62.50, good value. We realised no change (in money) would be given but were shocked that neither could we have a voucher for £37.50 it was just tough that we hadn’t spent enough it was our problem. We settled for two bottles of restaurant priced wine. We won’t be going back!

Really good food, freshly cooked, nice local atmosphere. What could be better on a damp January evening?

Staying locally, went here for dinner, staff friendly and reasonably priced food. Slightly dated feel about it, but ok. Ordered a bottle of red wine, which came in a cooler!! Maybe a little staff training needed, but made us laugh...

Excellent meals, always hot, prompt service and friendly reception throughout. The fish dishes were really good and fresh ...The seating was comfortable and with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the food and drink. Parking was just behind the hotel.

If in doubt about where to go locally, The Dolphin always tops the list for reasonably priced pub food.We probably go there about four or five times a year. What ever time we go, we find the food and service very good for the price. Invariably we have to leave some of the vegetables, as the portions are more than adequate. This time we chose roast main meals, and we were as usual satisfied.

Haven't eaten here for a year or so & last time the party were split as to the restaurant. This time we were in more agreement and in a positive way, the food we had was uniformly of a higher standard. Service was a bit haphazard to begin with but evened out, unfortunately some of the other guests were not so considerate to other diners. Not haute cusine but good value for the prices.

We ate here on our first night here, staff friendly and helpful. Food was very good scallops were well cooked, portion size ok. We did have pudding which was not as good as our main, Both were ok but a bit tasteless, Would eat here again though

Restaurant or lounge bar were the choices. We chose the restaurant....very dated decor, staff friendly menu choices extensive. Big portions of well cooked tasty food. Diver sourced scallops perfectly cooked with smoked bacon and spring onion . Mains of salmon and gammon well cooked, fresh veg served on silver serving platters! Waitresses laying up for breakfast whilst we were still eating at 20.30. Should really have waited until all diners had left

You get what it says on the tin here. Good honest food loads of vegetables and reasonable prices served by a friendly team. Staff go the extra mile even with the doggy bag - see pic.

We ate here 2 nights whilst staying in Beer as it had been recommended by a family member who had previously eaten there and we were not disappointed. The food is of a very good quality and the portions very generous. I can thoroughly recommend the slow cooked pork belly.

Good choice of food on the menu, something for everyone, I had the roast dinner midweek!! local leg of pork, vegetable and roast potatoes lovely, others had Beer skate wing,Steak and kidney pie and Local roast beef roast dinner, everything was perfect, will be back as we are local. Lots of choice on the childrens menu too. We had a dog with us and we were very welcome to eat in the 2 bar areas but not in the restaurant, the bar areas are just as nice as the restaurant.

Well cooked, well presented pub grub. We ate in rear bar and what an efficient outfit. Enough staff to cover all eventualities which is nice to see in the modern age and it meant no waiting either at the bar or for food. The only small quibble aimed to the management would be get your card machines updates so that gratuities can be added. Yes the staff were happy to add what I wished to give onto the bill total but somehow it didn't seem the right way to do it and with more people like me not using cash much your staff may miss out and they were too good to miss out.

I read some negative reviews about this place but can only say that our experience was a happy one.My wife and I sat at a table large enough for six. Within a few mins 3 ladies were looking for a table. I invited them to join us which they did.We all agreed that our food was good. Without exception the portions were generous and fairly priced. We chose house white wine at £13.00 bottle.

Went here tonight as it was recommended by my mother in law. Couldn't order til 6pm. I ordered gammon it wasnt nice too fatty and stringy kept thinking I was going to choke so I didn't enjoy it and for £15.50 it wasn't cheap but hubby enjoyed his flat iron steak but it was nothing special it was a shame as we were looking forward to going here.

Very friendly atmosphere, attractive pub. We had a drink and then ordered some food. A good choice on the menu and we both enjoyed our meals - good pub grub. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection (rare) and my salad of prawns and crab with avocado was delicious. Both meals were huge, we have good appetites but neither of us could eat everything!

It’s a very good service for food at the Dolphin Hotel and pub , at Beer . Your dinner is served quickly with a good staffing level . The food is good and it really is a reasonable price . You have a choice of areas to eat and I recommend the seating area sandwiched in the middle of the hotel complex it’s quieter . After having a nice meal you can walk it off , with a lovely walk around the town afterwards.

Bought six portions of Fish and Chips for the family, and ate on the beach. All cooked to order and great quality. The portions were almost excessively large, and perhaps they should make them 20% cheaper and drop the price a bit. Overall a lovely takeaway

The only good thing about this place is the parking, because no one is ever there. Poor service, poor food, poor attitude. Would never recommend!

This was our first visit to Lyme Regis and after having a little look around we were all getting a little hungry so we decided to stop off at Jane's Cafe on the parade. There were five of us and we all shared two boxes of cheesy chips together, I can't comment on the drinks that the others had but the cheesy chips were very nice. Good position sizes although could have been a little bigger but the chips were nice and there was plenty of grated cheese on top - I expect it would have been even better if it was melted slightly! There were plenty of places to sit and eat with nice views over the beach. The only negative comment from a family member was that the staff were a little slow serving the drinks but the food was ready pretty quickly and it was hot which was the main thing! A good little place to stop for a quick drink and something to eat.....

Lovely eat in and takeaway. Family breakfast for a family of 5. Great service, even had a lovely warm bowl of bread pudding 😁 as a taster. Great value. Will definitely visit again when we're in Exmouth
