The fireworks night last weekend was superb! I’ve not been to such a well organised family-friendly event like this before. The entry/ticket-check was a smooth swift process and very well organised. The food options were just what a November night out needed. Hot, fresh, and varied. The burgers were amazing! The fireworks were on for nearly 15mins, and were spectacular! Someone in our group arrived late and said cars on the main road outside had parked up on the verge…to watch the fireworks!

We had the most fantastic roast today at here. I’m quite fussy with a roast dinner and often find no where can beat a homemade roast and constantly being disappointed when going out for a Sunday roast! I can assure you that no one could be disappointed here! The food was absolutely delicious! The service was superb too! This will now be our regular Sunday venue!

We visited for lunch on a Wednesday. There were no other diners present (at 13.20) and we were told that it was a sandwich-only menu except on Sunday lunch-time. I ordered a ham and mustard sandwich; my wife had a prawn Marie Rose sandwich. They were served with excellent chips and a fresh side salad. The brown bread was fresh and my ham was generously cut from a large ham. I had a Romsey real ale; my wife had an Amstel lager. It was a pleasant light lunch. with friendly service and good views of the gold club outside.

I do not often write a review of a restaurant but today was so disappointing. Not so much that the meat was so tough you could not put a knife through it but the way our complaint was dealt with. The first reaction was we needed a sharper knife! Unbelievable especially when my husband was paying the bill this was mentioned again, 'you should have had a sharper knife'. We did get a another serving of meat but it was still not very good. I did notice a lot of people who had the same meat left quite a bit so the lamb was definitely not good quality. The two course meal for three of us cost £60.00 so not good value for the quality I was expecting. This was our first visit and will definitely be the last. Please train your staff to be less defensive and to treat customers with a little respect. It is quite insulting to be told we needed a sharper knife. I think I know tough meat when I am served it.

We used the club and restaurant for a surprise birthday lunch for my daughter, it is a favourite of hers and it is not hard to see why! We had had her wedding reception there and that was perfect, Sunday lunch was just as impressive. The good work began at planning stage where Kris and his team could not have been more helpful with times, access to the restaurant, decorating the table, special menu for the four children attending etc. On the day we were treated as if we were the only people there and the staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. The food...well....its was amazing, plenty of it and at a very reasonable cost and very scrumptious. Very highly recommended.

We came here for my sister’s 30th birthday lunch as it’s where she got married. The food was fantastic, great value, good sized portions and very tasty. Being a veggie I’m usually disappointed with the veggie option but they did a delicious and healthy warm salad. The rest of my family has roast dinner that came with generous side plates of veg. The service was brilliant, efficient, friendly and very helpful. Overall a great experience that lots of other restaurants struggle to achieve. Well done to all the staff there!

We had lunch for four recently - the food was excellent but moreover the staff are brilliant and accommodating. The choice from the menu for lunch was good and should suit all tastes and requirements. Although we had to wait the food was freshly prepared and worth the wait. A unfortunate incident a staff member was sick and had to leave early leaving the others a bit of a struggle which held the meals up a bit - no problem to us happy to sit in the sunshine and chat between us - but the club secretary apologised for the delay and compensated us with coffee's all round. Please don't miss this venue worth visiting for lunch even if you are not a golfer.

Four of us ate here on Sunday this week and very much enjoyed the experience. The menu is not huge but I assume that is done to ensure that food can be freshly cooked and quality can be assured. Personally I much prefer that to the extensive pub menus so often seen where quality can be extremely variable. The setting is lovely, looking out onto the golf course, and the room itself is very well decorated and dressed. The food was very good, I had a cod pate which was unusual followed by roast beef and the cheese board. The vegetables were well cooked, neither too soft nor too hard and everything was piping hot. We did have a previous experience at this restaurant where service was rather slow as they were busy and had several groups in. That was not the case on this occasion when service was prompt and the staff very attentive.

From past experience at this restaurant, it was with a little trepidation that I booked a table here on 6th May to celebrate the 70th birthdays of two friends. There were 5 of us altogether. As soon as we arrived we were told that three dishes on the menu were not available - and there was not a wide menu choice anyway. Four of us chose Hake with new Jersey potatoes and fennel, only to be told a few minutes later that there were only 3 hake left! So one of the party had to have a salmon dish which she did not really want. another member had a burger and even that was a little over done. In hindsight we should have left then. The hake arrived and it was lovely, the new potatoes had been partly sautéed (so not as stated on the menu) and as to the fennel - it was just a whisp of fennel like a spring onion with no taste -and even after complaining I couldn't cut it, it returned from the kitchen still inedible. The accompanying vegetables were quite hard, not just al dente!Four of us then chose what seemed like the best dessert of the three offered - the alternatives were ice cream and jelly with strawberries. After a good half an hour wait the dessert arrived and we could not believe my eyes. It was a small Braeburn apple complete with stalk and a little crumble, cream and blackberry by the side. We all proceeded to cut the apple and low and behold it was hard! At this point I told the waiter to take them all away and the manager was called. He listened to our complaints and he did take some money off the bill, but our celebration lunch had already been spoilt.

We just popped in for lunch on a recommendation of a friend, nervous at first as it's a 'golf club'.... but we were entirely wrong with our perception of golf club dining!!! It was virtually full and managed to seat at the last table available. We only had a main off the main menu but we were recommended some very tasty sounding specials (we will be sure to choose these next time!) by a member of the waiting team. Service was top class with even a recommendation of a wine by the manager to complement our meal... and at a 'special' price too (thanks!!) The food was perfect, proper cooked fresh food, defiantly noticeable! We would recommend this 'golf club/restaurant' to anyone looking for fantastic food, friendly, attentive service... And not to mention the unbelievably reasonable price!!! We will be back.... probably next week!!!

We booked our wedding reception at Ampfiled, not only for its great location, fantastic ambiance and friendly vibe and the welcoming pricing! We had also experience another wedding reception to friends of ours prior to booking ours. The lead up to the wedding was stress free. Julia Hunter initially looked after us and then passed us over to the Kristin Anderson Front of House/Events Manager. They really couldn’t do enough for us and evening suggesting ideas that would enhance our day. Our wedding was themed around travelling, each table was set up as a different holiday destination, with our guest having tickets to fly with “Clarke Airways” to their holiday destination. The staff at the golf club went above and beyond to bring our theme to life. With the waiters and waitresses sporting “Clarke Airways” air steward and air stewardess outfits and what with Kristin overseeing the day it only seemed fair that he would be our captain for the day! When we walked into the room for the first time, it took our breath away, it looked absolutely amazing and just perfect for us. Kristin did a fantastic job of arranging our cheeses into a 5 tiered cheese cake. Everything was taken care of, instructions followed to the T with only improvements suggested along way. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic, we even received 3 thank you cards thanking us/golfclub for a fantastic a wedding and wedding reception with an auntie even commenting that it was the best meal she had ever had at a wedding! Which was great feedback for us and them and I would have to agree. So all in all, great service, great food, great location with fantastic people pulling it all together. My wife and I shared a family group lunch of 19 to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary and everyone had a great time. This was assisted in no small measure by the efforts of the Restaurant staff who were enthusiastic and efficient. One of the hazards of a "one-off! occasion such as this is the possibility of things going wrong and then that is what people remember! This possibility did not materialize in any way and a feeling of well-being prevailed throughout the group. It is worth mentioning that the assembled multitude ranged in ages from 5 months to 91 years! Marvellous. As requested we sent a preorder email for the required meals. A previously received menu did have a bit of a glitch as the vegetarian option was fish and included pancetta! Anyway, communication being to hand this was quickly sorted. A very good Gnocchi dish was served. The table was a lovely big oblong unit and beautifully laid together with chairs adorned with ruby coloured ribbon. Nice touch. Most people had opted for the roast beef which was excellent and served with mixed veg and cauliflower. There was also comfit of duck which proved very acceptable for a few of the party.Starters and deserts were equally good.Restaurant has a decent wine list, with modestly priced options. Excellent Oz Shiraz and NZ Sauvignon Blanc. There is also a very acceptable Flacks Bitter from a local brewery - very nice too!The location within the Golf Club affords lovely views over the course. There is a great outside terrace which we were able to utilize both before and after the meal due to be blessed with sunshine and mild temperatures.Difficult to relay any negative feedback on this place and we will be returning!

We have been to this dining room at the Ampfield Golf Club masquerading as a restaurant twice recently and on both occasions have been disappointed. The location is pleasant and the staff are nice, if not very efficient, but the food is not good and there seem to be too many sloppy mistakes for a supposedly professional establishment. Both times we had reason to be dubious about a fish dish - what was meant to be a freshly cooked sea fish tasted suspiciously smoky on each occasion. On the most recent occasion it was a major family celebration, booked months in advance, but on the day the party was relegated to a corner while the restaurant was crammed to capacity with other large groups. Advance notice of starter and main choices were given but the kitchen still managed to get some of the orders wrong and did nothing for two guests who could not find anything to their taste among the starters on the menu. The menu is priced keenly and states that coffee and chocolate mints were included, but insufficient mints were produced for our party and the coffees were not good - two so-called espressos were nothing more than black filter coffee served in small cups!To cap it all, a bizarre incident occurred in the car park where our vehicle was somehow removed from a parking space without permission apparently so a golf member could park his car!!

We held our wedding reception at Restaurant 54 on 18th August and could not have wished for better. In the lead up to the wedding Julia and Alan were incredibly helpful, in the way that you only find in a family owned business. We went for their advertised package, which was great value, included all the things that you would want, including room, table and chair dressings, DJ, canopes, welcome drinks, 3 course wedding breakfast with our choice of menu (we offered out guests 3 options for each course at no extra cost), bubbly for the toasts, table wine, a sumptuous evening buffet and exclusive use of the restaurant and decked terrace. When we arrived the room looked stunning, the staff were very smartly presented and looked after our guests faultlessly all evening. Alan was in charge and acted as MC for the speeches and ushering of people about. We were then whisked of on a golf buggy in to the gorgeous golf course to have some lovely photos taken around a very pretty little bridge they have.Upon returning we have our speeches and the wedding breakfast commenced. Never have I seen so much food come out so perfectly cooked and presented. Every dish came out in a timely manner, cooked to absolute perfection and presented like it was fresh out of a magazine. There were 43 of us so that was a total of 129 dishes that came out of that kitchen! Absolutely incredible! Almost every guest commented to us on the quality of the food! In the blink of an eye Alan and the team set to and rearranged the room for the evening party. There were plenty of staff so no one waited at the bar and we went on to have a thouroghly enjoyable evening. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone for a wedding reception or for any function. I've been to weddings that cost 5,6 or 7 times as much and were barely comparable !

Big, airy dining area overlooking the golf course offering excellent food at reasonable prices. Well balanced menu, acceptable wine list and pretty good service. Three of us went for lunch and enjoyed it so much, a party of 10 went the following week. Despite only booking the table half an hour before we arrived, it was all laid up ready for us. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Just one minor criticism - few more veg would have been good.

On that occasion the portion was big but the quality was poor. However this time, I can honestly say it’s one of the best breakfast we’ve ever had!!!! Everything was bang on and we were extremely happy with the offering. Had same great food ( fried bread was on point ) the staff were great and and we were full up like a tin can of crackers after. We booked here as a Birthday Meal and pre warned when booking that in the party we had a Gluten Free Allergy requirement. When booking in at the Restaurant we asked for a Gluten Free Menu. Our order was taken and within the 5 for £20 starters requested 2 lots of GF Garlic Bread. When the starters came out all were on one platter and not separated and after a couple of minutes waiting requested plates to be able to eat/share the food and at this point was told 'by the way the Garlic Bread is not Gluten Free, we didn't have any'. Thankfully my son had not started to eat!!! We then asked for the Food to be taken away and was brought back 10 minutes later as 2 no Gluten Free Buns toasted with Garlic Butter. The main meal of a Burger and Chips came out with the same bun, which was not eaten as already had enough...... Safe to say the 10% added service fee we took off. Very disappointed.

I had the rainbow trout and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, my husband also very much enjoyed his steak pie. It made his day when he realised the fruit crumble was rhubarb as that’s always been his absolute fave! If in the area again we would definitely return!

On a chilly early spring day - after buying onion sets and seed potatoes in this high quality family-run garden centre - we had an early lunch in their warm conservatory café: delicious soup, bread and particularly outstandingly yummy - and large! - cheese scones - all home made. The cheese scones are by far the best in a 10 mile radius of Romsey! The garden centre is also known locally for the wide collection of high quality dahlia plants.
