I stayed at the Queens Hotel for a night at the end of Summer ‘24 and ate at the restaurant solo. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive, the meal was very good and the steak was just right. I’d certainly eat here again in future!

60th birthday location company and food all top quality. Fully recommend the Beef Wellington. Perfection. The service was immaculate just needs a few more people in the 1865 for an atmosphere. Sunny warm evening and a lot of people were in the garden though. Price was just right for the food all top quality and delicious. Thank you all for making a super evening absolutely fantastic. Will be back.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great music, a breath of fresh air! The food was excellent, well cooked, good quality, not too much but enough and well presented. The staff seemed happy and eager to help, the interior was clean and well presented with comfortable and tasteful furnishings. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I will be back!

We would recommend the food, the beef wellington was exceptional and the peanut caramel dessert was delicious. We will be coming back!

Absolute gem! Impeccable vibes - beautiful interior design, mouth wateringly delicious food, Chet Baker playing in the background, and weirdly important the bathrooms were just gorgeous. Highly reccomend for a special occasion or just any occasion really!!

Unpleasant and disappointing I've had breakfast here on a Sunday 3 times in the past six months. It's a nice place. Visit 1 - Excellent Visit 2 - Not so good, so I made an exception. Maybe a bad day. Visit 3 - Appalling, here's why: 1. We had to pay before we could eat (never had before) 2. Every portion on the plate was poorly cooked and cold. The coffee was cold, every time. 3. Service was haphazard - no check backs. 4. £36 for two people - not good value. If you go, observe for a while, watch the food and service, then decide.

Quiet and unrushed just as we like midafternoon. Great food and lovely surroundings.

I went there for dinner and afternoon tea and both of them exceeded my expectations as the food was delicious and the atmosphere was really nice.

Had a lovley evening at the restaurant tonight with my family for my birthday. Excellent food & service, lovley young waitress who served us all evening.

The atmosphere entering restaurant 1865 through the lobby was lovely and classic. A wonderful venue to the restaurant. All the staff were lovely throughout our time at the restaurant. We dined in on a Sunday afternoon - taking advantage of the Sunday menu featuring numerous roast dinner meat options blended with the a la carte menu with lots of great options available. Our order consisted of the sirloin roast, along with a the starter of the scallops with masala. The scallops were cooked very well - tender and juicy. However the pairing with masala was peculiar. The roast dinner was fantastic. Well executed and presented tender, juicy sirloin cut; accompanied with a medley of roasted vegetables. I thoroughly enjoyed the plate - with a special mention of the huge Yorkshire puddings! Overall, a great experience and would recommend those in Portsmouth/Southsea to visit this restaurant.

Very good meals in a lovely setting and the staff were excellent. My only issue is the concept of adding a ‘Gratuity’ to the bill. Dictionaries define a Gratuity as’ a tip given to a waiter, something given without claim or demand, something given voluntarily or beyond obligation, in addition to the official amount and for their red personal use, given freely as thanks for service. I think simply tacking it onto the end of every bill does not meet those criterion. You may say that I could ask for it to be deducted from the bill but why put that role or embarrassment onto your customer? It doesn’t even say “optional” or “discretionary “ Finally, by adding it to the bill and putting through your accounts it is liable for tax, thereby reducing the amount, if any, that goes to the staff. The sum in question is negligible and was paid, it is the practice I abhor. Queens Hotel has responded to my comments above but only addressed one of the 3 issues raised.

Visited on a Sunday to try out the roast. Service excellent and nice to catch the sax/clarinet player (I believe that he performs every Sunday). The roast was very good, one of the better roasts I have had in Portsmouth even if the beef was a little fatty. Dessert I opted for the Creme Brûlée which was lovely underneath, just a little disappointed that the topping was burnt. Overall though the meal was lovely and temperature just right (as on a previous visit in the New Year the food arrived cool). And please, if there is a male attendant in the ladies can a sign be put on the door. Will be back 😀

Family and friends met up for a ‘social’. 15 in number with several dietary requirements, but nothing was a problem. Katey, Alfredo and the team ensured everything went smooth. Pre ordering food was a great plus. Only downer was looking at everyone else’s plate before yours was delivered thinking wow, I’d like that. Most had 2 courses, some a starter others a desert. All beautifully presented and only positive comments. Some did choose to add a desert, having experienced how good the starters and mains were. Service was very attentive, but not invasive. Nothing was too much trouble. All said they would return. Try, and then enjoy.

Birthday Sunday lunch for 5. Had mains and desserts. Food well presented and cooked. Nice to have saxophonist performing at sensible volume in background and general buzz of place. Deserts are quite special and a varied choice. We will be back.

Fabulous Sunday lunch with excellent Sax background music. The service was superb, I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

The food was good, but the atmosphere was quite poor. When asking for another pot of tea, the waitress topped up the pot with hot water, no extra tea. Only two choices of tea, English Breakfast or Earl Grey. Not good value.

Always fabulous food and impeccable service. An absolute gem which never loses its sparkle. Can’t recommend highly enough. Chilled ambience, relaxed vibes, elegant decor. 5 stars not enough.

Another very enjoyable Sunday Lunch experience. I marked the food down a little as the soup starter was only luke warm (at best).

We went for afternoon tea on a Sunday lunchtime. Great atmosphere with a saxophonist playing. Staff were attentive without being obtrusive, nothing was too much trouble for them. And the food was delicious. We’d happily go back again & try the roast which looked amazing!

Food was good but the service was bad. Took nearly 2 hours to get our main courses. staff kept abruptly cutting into our conversations by standing between us mid sentence. You never knew who was actually waiting on us. Building is beautiful but they could really work on paying attention to the details and train their staff on providing a fine dining experience.

Nice place. Very cold in restaurant and bar. Their heating needs attention. The CH is not giving out enough heat and the radiators need bleeding. The front door needs to be on rotating doors as it lets in in too much cold into the reception. No light outside the door and you could fall down the steps if the fairy lights are not on. Small things need their attention. I got others' coffees on my bill. Not good.

Such a beautiful setting and the food was delicious. The only reason for four stars was that the toilets were in asad state of repairs, one was out of order another had a seat which was split and falling off and the third was leaking all over the floor.

Lovely food, great decor, excellent service and very friendly staff.
