Compacto y bijou.

A bunch of us took over a booth and ordered a variety of meals and drinks in a complete hodgepodge of comings and goings. All the food was well cooked, served hot and the service was faultless. Highly recommended providing you don't mind walking (or rolling) along a cobbled street to get there.

Went for brunch (advertised online) but they didn't seem to have the brunch menu available and they don't have anything to make hot drinks. Had a chicken burger instead, and it was the tiniest burger I've ever seen. Definitely not good value or quality. This used be be brilliant for food, but it's clearly changed. Don't go if you're hungry!

I’m from the area & been around to other restaurant nearby, thought I’d try this with a friend. The restaurants next door were busy & buzzing...then i found out why. The bartender had poor attitude (Every other guests that came out after ordering were just baffled). He told us they weren’t serving food because the kitchen is closed, but 10 minutes later he brings out food (Yorkshire pudding) for 2 guests sitting right next to us. My friend went to get wine from the bar, he gave him the bottle, then started cleaning & arranging the glasses! My friend had to request to pay! All in all poor service

Usual disclaimer: I only post reviews of restaurants I love and where I'd send my friends. If a place is terrible, they won't have any trouble going bust without my help! Low down from the locals: My wife and I have been to Resident about 8 times since we moved to Bethnal Green and it's one of our favorite places. The food is consistently excellent, the staff friendly and the vibe a bit bonkers, really. This past Sunday we went in with our precious (well behaved) Jack Russell and 2 close friends and one of them said the place had recently gotten some rotten reviews. I couldn't believe it! Turns out the head chef had been in a motorcycle crash (ask to see his scars-- but only after the meal) and the kitchen fell apart while he was in hospital. I'm happy to report order has been restored. Brunch was excellent as always. 3 kinds of bloody mary, the tequila one sorted me right out -- and wasn't afraid to bring the heat. I'm not a roast guy but my three companions had poussin, lamb and veggie roasts and devoured them. The lamb was tender, succulent and falling off the bone. I had the full veggie breakfast with field mushrooms, fried halloumi, egg, good sourdough-- far more colorful and interesting than your standard full veggie. I've also had Eggs Florentine here, and their Cornish mackerel and would do so again. Bread pudding to finish, which was divine. Downside: expresso machine was bloody broken wasn't it! Service can be a bit... quirky and I wouldn't want to come on a rush. While I have been here for dinner a couple times (with mom, drank too much to remember details but everyone left happy) I love stretching out a good brunch here have yet to be disappointed with an order. It's pricier than your average pub brunch/roast but the atmosphere and quality to my mind make it worth it. Overall a fun place with great music and friendly staff who clearly enjoy what they do. Will be back.

My wife and I came here for dinner and pre drinks before meeting friends in the area, we enjoyed it so much that we moved our evening here. The food was sublime, great beef for me and my wife loved the vegan options. The drinks were a delight with bartenders who could make you things that weren’t normally available and at one point created something new for a friend as he was being picky. The service was friendly, fun and warm. We felt like we’d made friends with the team. A definite return and a definite suggestion to all.

Went here for Saturday brunch with 3 friends, ordered a chicken and avocado sourdough for £8 something, received greasy fried chicken strips (3 in total) with a little avo and overfried bread, taste was mediocre and portion size is SMALL. A 200ml bottle of coke cost £2.50... bill came to over £17 each for a small brunch and one drink. Would not recommend, the place was empty yet service was slow. Quite a rip off considering so many nicer local cafes around. Not quite sure what you're paying for...

We should have known when we walked into this empty restaurant (right next to a buzzing and full one) that there was a good reason why. We soon found out. Service was slow. One starter didn't turn up at all (to be fair there was an apology from the waitress who said she forgot and a free pint of beer was delivered to my son). But, when it was the turn of the main meals to arrive, 3 arrived and we waited a while for the last two. Instead of the last two main meals turning, up the server brought a repeat of the starter orders and didn't even notice that the rest of us were in our main meals and the two waiting had already had their starters. No apology this time and bybthe time the two remaining main meals had turned up, the other three had finished. The meals themselves were nothing special and very small for the price paid. We were not asked at any time during the meal whether or not we would like more drinks, in fact the waitresses hardly came near us apart from taking the initial order and depositing the food on the table. After the poor service they had the cheek to add a service charge to the bill!

No drinks menu but then after asking about what's available I understood that it was simply because the offer is so mediocre you can't write down and call it a menu. Staff was more concerned about they're phones. Took 50 mins for a rare a steak and a chicken on avocado so ordered some chips to get us going which came with catchup and horseradish not mayo. When mains came the chicken was some poor version of a flat dry chicken kieve and my £19 steak came medium well instead of Rare. Giving them one start because the waitress did apologise and removed the steak from the bill.

Great food, and huge portions, cheerful and attentive service, and a short but well-chosen wine list. The only quibble was the volume – the place can get very loud, which makes the atmosphere more like a noisy pub than a place for a quiet dinner and a chat. Otherwise, very good.

The waitress was lovely but the food very disappointing. I ordered a main meal of tortellini for £11 and was surprised at the tiny portion (just 3 tortellini). When I raised this, the waitress brought another portion from the kitchen for myself and my friend (who had ordered the same), unfortunately when I put my fork in the tortellini was frozen inside. We chose the steak and chips for two. There was more than enough on the plate; starters and puddings were definitely not needed. The food was very salty, which seems to be a recurring criticism. Resident and neighbouring eateries are not cheap, so taking a family to Paradise Row after a visit to the Museum of Childhood ( located opposite ) would quickly become expensive. I wouldn't rush back, but an useful place to know about.

Very disappointing. Very pleasant terrace, cool place, and nice menu that unfortunately tuned into a bad experience. With only two tables occupied, we had to wait more than half an hour for a poached egg. When they finally arrived, it's was a very small portion for £9. Only one poached egg, only one slice of bread and few vegetable. All very good but two small, prices and delayed. We had to go to grab something else to eat... It is indeed a shame for all these restaurants on Pradise raw, an incredible spot that could be awesome and very profitable and already two restaurants really disappointing and expensive. Maybe the best option would have been the Japanese canteen at the end of the expensive places... I still go the the other one I haven't try, I'll give it a last chance to the location.. 😕

We ordered some drinks which we had to request again and then they appeared twice on our bill. There was a large projection screen set up above our heads, and that of the diners sitting around us, which was screening football and was really loud so it was nearly impossible to have a conversation. This is a bar, not a restaurant, although the menu and the food we ate definitely suggest restaurant. We arrived for our reservation and were told we could sit anywhere, so plumped for one of the booths at the back of the restaurant. The table had been set without being wiped down so lots of sticky marks on it. As soon as one of the servers noticed this, it was rectified. We ordered a burger, and a selection of the small plates. Burger was fine, no problems there. Small plates were from a new menu. We had octopus which was nicely cooked, credit where it is due. And we had belly pork on kimchi and the kimchi was the better out of the two. Belly pork was fine but had no flavour. A dish with cannelloni beans was spoiled by undercooked beans, and the chilli prawns didn't taste anything of chilli. They were fine. In fact everything was OK. But just that. Ok, fine uninteresting and nothing to write home about. I didn't walk away feeling like I'd had a great meal or that I'd had a damn awful one. Just meh. Decor is great, fab location and amazing, friendly bar and waiting staff. This should be the perfect recipe for success but sadly let down by the food which is borderline average. The menu sounds great but fails on the delivery. I've eaten there twice - shared the roast chicken first and then some of the vegetarian sharing plates on the second visit. The chicken was enormous and quite 'flabby' although the chips were delicious. The sharing plates were either overly salty ie beetroot and goats cheese salad and rarebit mushroom (sauce reminded me of packet mushroom sauce) or dry and bland - fried tempeh. General lack of freshness and 'zing' to be honest. Such a pity as Resident has so much potential. It just needs a few tweaks to the food and it will be perfect. I look forward to my next visit but might just stick to a delicious cocktail and some olives...for now.

I went to Resident for dinner with a friend on a Wednesday evening. First of all, we had two different menus as the staff hadn't taken away the previous evenings menu and only realised this when we decided on what we both wanted and then...

Went for brunch with friends but left very disappointed. The coffee machine was broken so we made do with small weak cups of filter coffee, only to be told when paying that we were being charged £3 each for 'bottomless filter' not having been offered...

This was the second time I had been to Resident of Paradise Row. Both times on a Sunday and both times with only two waitresses looking after a packed restaurant. The service was very slow, our drinks took a really long time to arrive and when they arrived they were disgusting. Really bad Bloody Mary's! For a restaurant boasting a great brunch menu the Bloody Mary's were watery, really lemony and completely unseasoned. I don't think there was any Worcester Sauce in them at all. The food was delicious so the chef was doing a good job, however they forgot half of my meal and didn't bring it out until everyone at my table had finished their food. The table next to us complained too. The whole morning felt hectic, unorganised and like we could have left without paying completely unnoticed. I won't be giving it a third chance. Shame.

Enjoyed our meal here. We ate on a Saturday night and our table was very near the bar so we often had people standing round our table/ walking very close to us. This didn't bother us but you might not want to come here for a romantic meal! I had the chicken which was nice but maybe a bit boring- the sides (chips, slaw) were delicious though. Gravy a bit watery and didn't taste of much. Major pet hate- food served on a wooden board. Why do this when you're serving the dish with gravy?! We used an Opentable cheque for our meal and although they'd never seen these before the manager was lovely and made sure the process went through smoothly.

Hidden in amongst other cool and trendy quality eating and drinking places, Resident of Paradise Row is a great little bar and restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was really good (savoury amazing, sweet less amazing) and so were the cocktails and beers. Great atmosphere too!

Delicious meal for a group of us when it eventually arrived. Felt like the front of house really let down the kitchen staff. The bills was wrong, the drinks were slow and didn't arrive or were incorrect.

Made a booking for yesterday and arrived a few mins early. Got unceremoniously dumped on a cramped uncleaned table by the bar. After ten mins we were asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for a menu. Ten mins later asked what we wanted...

Been here twice as I live right around the corner. The interior is relaxing and the food is great quality and tasty! I really enjoy my weekend breakfast here with unlimited filter coffee. Service is polite and smiley. Love this place!

Booked a table for 6 for late lunch following a funeral. Must say the atmosphere, food and service from the two guys working the bar and serving the food was excellent, really nice atmosphere. We will certainly use this place again, it was just the lift we needed after the funeral. Thanks guys.

We had a good evening here but unfortunately the food didn't blow us away. Service was fantastic, and when our food took a long time to arrive due to a large party the staff brought over free starters which was a great touch, they were friendly throughout and made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Unfortunately the food was really underwhelming. The seasoning was all wrong and the dishes were bland and boring, for that reason and the distance we travelled it wouldn't be worth us returning.

We had an issue with a dish and the service crew reaction was disappointed. After eaten half her green peppers plate, my girlfriend ate a really hot one. Hot enough to get breathing difficulties and make her cry. I adviced the manager. It was the first time they had this issue. After asking me if it wasn't my girlfriend who was to sensitive and a joke about that subject by another waitress, we asked for the bill. No commercial gesture. We had to ask for it... Shame because the food was good. The pepper issue was just a mistake, and certainly not from them. The service crew weren't concern and didn't have empathy.

5 years ago we stayed at the Hilton and enjoyed the high quality cuisin at this restaurant. We arrived 2 days ago and wanted to dine again in Cinnamon. But,the disappiontment was great: very dull Hamburger , unfresh bun ,stringy meat. A small fish a bit smelly and frozen chips.I. Miss the italian chef !!!!
