Incredible pizza! Perhaps the best vegan pizza I have had in Bristol. Portions are great too. I'm sat writing this review after finishing off my leftovers. Don't be put off by the price - it's absolutely worth it! Everything on the menu can be made vegan. Our server Francesca was very friendly, attentive, and informative. I recommend eating upstairs as there are a few more options and a more formal setting. The building deserves a mention too. It's beautiful with a lot of history and character. I really loved all the vintage Bristol Old Vic and Bristol Hippodrome posters downstairs too. So many good things to say. Will definitely be back for more. Ordered: Bull in the Heather Detroit-style Pizza (comes with buratta cheese) and a Leave Me Here Detroit-style Pizza (comes with some of the best vegan pepperoni I've had) as well as a couple of glasses of white wine and soft drinks.

Deliciooooous Detroit style pizza served upstairs at Renatos. Even though each pizza is 'only' 4 slices, they are decadent and we couldn't finish it all (luckily they gave us a box to take home our leftovers). Definitely get a dip as they are so good for dipping the cheesy crust of the pizza into! 🍕 FYI - They only serve Vegetarian and Vegan options. We really liked the meat-free pepperoni and hot honey pizza. Friendly service and a nice vibe! 4 stars as it is pretty expensive compared to other pizza options in Bristol.

Friendly doorman and service, very busy on a Friday eve but staff behind the pizza counter were on it! Convenient to grab a slice and a drink, prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, the pizza was a bit cold (though this is probably due to how busy it was) and there was only one toilet cubicle downstairs so queues for the bathroom took a little while. Would visit again though, maybe on a quieter eve.

I love renatos! From the awesome 80s signed pictures of Bristol old Vic theatre thespians, to the fact that it has the feel of an old Victorian pub and stays open until about 2am... but the best thing about renatos is the pizza! It’s traditional Italian Naples style pizza - served throughout the night until they close and very reasonably priced. It’s a must have with a beer or three. Plus they have an independent selections of lagers and ales, again at pretty reasonable prices... 5 pints cost me 20 quid which to be honest in Bristol is pretty cheap! I spend many a Saturday eve here. Where else can you find a comfy pub with great food open until 2am in the centre of town. Give it a visit!!!

Just a visit with a friend for a bottle of red in a cosy corner. Ordered the £14.95 house Malbec. Poured ourselves two large glasses, had the first sip and we both said "this wine is off", it was fizzy (red wine), sour and had bits floating in it... (Gross!) I didn't think twice about going to the back to the bar to let them know, after all, these things can happen! The woman was immediately hostile and before we had even spoken snapped "what is wrong with the wine NOW then?!" I explained and she said "no, there's nothing wrong with it, it's the wines region", I was baffled! I then said "it's not the region, it's an off bottle" the lady refused to accept this, tried it (after saying she didn't drink red wine so wouldn't know) and again said it was fine. She added "seeing as you didn't like it, you've drank a lot" pointing at the bottle 3/4 full... I mentioned 2 full glasses were next to it... This seemed to be an unnecessary detail. Then the man behind the bar joined in to tell us we were wrong and it was our unrefined tastebuds that couldn't cope with the sophisticated Malbec they had served us. Between them they were confrontational, rude and altogether made us feel very on edge. I've drank lots of terrible bottles of wine in my time (and lots of good ones!) but I cannot drink vinegar... Eventually the woman slammed another bottle of cheap red in front of us adding "we have NEVER had a complaint before, but have this" luckily, this bottle of overpriced red wine was not full of carbon dioxide and didn't smell of yeast (yay!), so we enjoyed it in disbelief, vowing never to return again...

I have enjoyed a few nights drinking here at different times down the years. However the food was quite overpriced for what you get. My anchovy pizza was quite thin - tasty but not very filling and at £8.95 is a bit steep. Situated almost next door to the Bristol Old Vic, and run by an Italian family, the pizza is proper thin-crust and very tasty. Drinks have a "craft" angle, mostly bottled ciders, and specialist soft drinks such as blood orange San Pellegrino. Very popular with star-spotters, but pick your moment. After leaving the opposite Beer Emporium, we could not help noticing the sign advertising both beer and pizza from this pub-come-restaurant. It was shortly after sunset and still too early for dinner, but one member of our party had not eaten lunch so we decided to share a pizza amongst us. Inside, the establishment was all but empty, though the atmosphere was pleasant and enabled us to enjoy the red wooden surroundings and Milanese-Hollywood style photographs. The lady at the bar was friendly; though the ale selection was not fantastic they had some unusual lagers to sample. I had to buy two as I was paying via card, and they enabled me to come back and collect the second when I needed it.The pizza came after a fairly average wait. It semeed fairly authentically Italian: thin but sturdy base, with delicious toppings. For the price we were paying, which is cheaper than it would be back home in Reading, this was more than reasonable and definitely worthy as a snack, and if I had been hungrier I would happily have gone for a whole pizza for myself as a meal. Although it was relatively empty in the seating area during our stay, several groups came in to collect takeaways - so evidently the supplier retains some popularity with locals as well.

I booked a table for 21 at this restaurant, as I wanted to go for birthday drinks in the King Street area afterwards. Several years ago I enjoyed a meal here, when it was very different. The woman who took the reservation over the phone was a bit grumpy, though i thought nothing of it.On arrival, the chairs had been crammed around a row of tables so tightly you'd struggle to fit primary school children on them, and we were several chairs short. I laughed this off as a mistake, we all looked at each other in disbelief, and the manager added another table in an L-shape and we all pushed the chairs apart, but it was still pokey, and if you were one of the many people behind the table who needed to get out to place an order at the bar / go to toilet, you either had to up-seat several people, or climb over the table. We hadn't been warned that you had to place food and drink orders at the bar, which meant there was no table service when it came to drinks, though we accepted this.Where we lost patience was the food. We had been warned that the pizzas would come out at slightly different times, but we didn't take this to mean that there was what felt like an hour or so between serving the first and last pizzas, and the first one didn't get served for about an hour. The wait was unbearable. I felt awful for my friends, people were waiting a ridiculous amount of time to get their meals.I might have forgiven them if the pizzas had come out and they were great, or even just quite good. They were all miserable to eat, and I'm really not a fussy eater. I've lost count of how many £1-2 supermarket pizzas I've eaten at home that were ten times tastier to eat. The toppings were at best scarce, at worst non-existent. There was way too much crust, which we couldn't bring ourselves to eat.Me and my friends aren't a fussy bunch. We eat any pizza, especially when that hungry. But we all battled to eat the flavourless, disappointing pizzas with rubbish dough. They didn't taste in any way authentic or special, and we paid way too much for the privilege. What made things even worse is that the chef/waiter (who seemed to be the only person cooking and bringing out the pizzas) had awful people skills. He seemed to enjoy bringing out one pizza at a time, muttering its name in Italian so quietly under his breath that no one could even hear a word - at which point I would ask him the name and repeat it to the table at a more audible volume - then he would act impatient, rolling his eyes and sighing, when he could have just spoke up a bit.I was dying to get my guests out.The only way I could recommend eating here is if you accidentally bought a pint here, decided you might be hungry in an hour, felt like you could even eat a shoe, and because of a leg injury you couldn't get to any of Bristol's other restaurants or takeaways.

I'd been told that eating at Renato's is a staple Bristol experience. It was ok. The pizza menu could be more extensive (as a vegetarian, the choice was extremely limited). When it arrived, the pizza was fine, but not really worth as much as I'd had to pay for it. Three quarters of the way through our meals, a big party came in who had reserved a table, but as not enough chairs and tables had been put out for them we were turfed out of our seats to make room for them. The staff were pleasant and it does have a nice atmosphere in there, but the food/ menu needs improving.

A group of us visited Renato's for the first time for a birthday meal recently. We started our night there which I think was probably a mistake - it's the kind of place where you should finish your night i think. For a sit-down meal for a special occassion, i felt this place was a bit rough around the edges. It was all a bit cramped, the menu was basic and the service was slow. The pizza was nice but not knock-out. I would go again for a quick bite but not for a special occassion.

It's all about the pizza here. Very fresh ingredients and a lovely atmosphere for a pub. A good place to have a quick dinner before a trip to the theatre.

I have to admit l have been a customer for many, many years ( since a teenager ! ) and have held pre theatre cast parties here - they serve as always the best pizza in town ! and the staff are superbly attentive and friendly, run by a very lovely 'Italian family' who always make a special welcome for everyone especially children - its a great place too for a drink into the early hours - a long established restaurant and bar frequented by actor's from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Royal, Hippodrome, visiting film crews and artistes and of course BOV drama students and theatre luvvies !Take a look at the photographs on the walls and gallery of famous artistes - amazing ambience and consistently good - a star spotting spot !!

After a show at The Hippodrome, went here with the cast and 'others'. The choice of beers is limited but the atmosphere is great and the guy who makes the pizza does a really good job of 'em. The bloke who delivers your chosen fare to your table does it with humour and patience - most of the clientèle being slightly the worse for drink. The bar staff, however, give the impression that the day has gone on too long. I'll go again

Used to eat at Renato's quite a few years ago, primarily as it was a place where you could get decent late night food, along with a vibrant atmosphere, when places nearby were closing up for the night.Visited again a couple of times recently and actually like the fact that hardly anything has changed, in the food, decor etcetc - it's certainly got it's own quirks and identity, which personally think is a good thing.Possible that the menu could do with a couple of additions, but always found the pizzas themselves tasty and good value.
